first, i would like to thank anyone helping promote this show. its free, and we're paying the bands through donations.
second, the hottness have had a conflict with being added to the rest of the banner / dr.acula tour, and will not be playing next friday at manifest, nor the next day in lancaster sc. they would like everyone to know they're sorry for this change, and will be rescheduling, which means september 7th, the hottness may be playing at manifest, i need to find a band or 2 that'll play and help with donations and what not, but that seems to be what is happening. please don't let that affect you're attending of august 1st, and please let everyone you know that wanted to see the hottness next friday, to please make a note to look for sept 7th as the hottness at manifest as a makeup for this (its a sunday, and will probably be earlier than august 1st's show).
with that said, there may or may not be another band added to the august 1st show. i'm waiting on a response from someone, and that'll pretty much be the band i add unless i get some bumrush of messages over night since i don't plan on putting anymore time into this show pass this weekend.
third, dbdd wants to continue having shows at manifest, so please show your support and come to these shows, put flyers on your profile, post bulletins about them, etc. all shows will be based on donations, so that limits the bands we can ask to even play, but i'm gonna continue getting bands you wouldn't expect for free shows, and still have some ideas for up coming shows. it's very important that these shows have nice turn outs and enough donations to help if not completely pay band guarantees so that the money isn't coming out of our pocket.
with that said, i hope to see everyone next friday for A Stained Glass Romance and Land Of Savage (formally Think Back). we'll be taking donations as usual to help these bands with gas, they both have shows the next day around an hour from charlotte and every dollar counts with insane gas prices. thanks for reading.
btw, manifest is located at 6239 South Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28217 the intersection of south blvd and archdale, next to the post office.

Hey everyone from the UK and general lurkers of blogs. We've recently reworked the calculation for shipping cost, and corrected the UK calculations, so now its only like 8 bucks to ship a shirt to the UK, and now whateer huge number was being made up before. ALSO! We've put a 15% disco..unt ONLY for visit..ors from the UK, the code is "..UKBYF..ATE".., and it works.. for the next 2 weeks... The discount is to encourage you awesome people from across the pond, to order some threads. Our boys SHAPED BY FATE should be receiving their shirts soon, so go see them at one of their upcoming shows and scream out DBDD or something.
It's also Independence Day in America today, so if you're a US shopper, use the discount "INDIEDAY", it only works till midnight so get on that.
Get drunk and blow your hand off with a firework or something.

We've been behind on announcing these awesome artists. Some friends I met a few years ago, VANNA from Boston, and an awesome Kansas City artist on Rhymesayers, MAC LETHAL.
If you're behind on either of these artists, check them out right now. You'll cry about missing out for the last few years.
MAC LETHAL is playing a huge hiphop fest in May with Aesop Rock, Atmosphere, Little Brother and an assortment of Rhymesayers artists. He also was on this years Paid Dues fest.
VANNA will be on tour later this year with The Banner, Across Five Aprils, A Plea For Purging, and about 5 other bands I think, its a monster tour package, which isn't playing Charlotte. :(
Check these artists out!

Current mood: refreshed
Beardism is defined by the Beard Liberation Front as "an irrational prejudice against those with facial hair". As bearded men (well... not Ashley), when we found out about the BLF, a UK organization, we were in the middle of designing a beard shirt, which ultimately became our "Beardism Kills" shirt. Its layered 2 color shirt, large front print.
If you’re interested in the BFL or beardism, check out the wikipedia for BFL.

So like everyone has assumed, Tremont isn’t interested in music, but for how much money they can make off alcohol. I’m not edge, but I don’t go out and drink at shows either, which has somehow created the myth of me being edge, whatever.
I really don’t see a reason to say anything else about this message you’re about to read. I guess all I can do is suggest that you quit going to national shows at Tremont, & only go to local shows. Seek out shows not happening at Tremont, like at places such as SK Net, Lunchbox, Manifest, local parks, and if you’re 18+, try The Milestone & Snug Harbor.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Stuart, The fact that you’re getting a response should go some distance in showing you that you’re wrong in many of your assumptions about Tremont and the business in general. The second assumption that you make is that your shows make Tremont money. They don’t. See my next point. The third assumption that you, and I might add many people, make is that Tremont is in the music business. We’re not. We’re in the alcohol business. In much the same way that movie theatres are not in the movie business, they’re in the popcorn business. Almost all venues work this way and the few that don’t either don’t stay open or they become shittier and shittier because they’re unable to pay for the upkeep. When we do shows where the majority of the crowd is under drinking age. we often lose money or just break even. The money that you see us take in from the door (after our staff expenses) goes to pay our high rent, insurance, utilities, and advertising costs. We factor in these costs when we bid on big room shows, but on local shows we use the door money for this and we hope to make money at the bar. Of course, this only works for drinking crowds. We continue to do under-age shows, certainly not for money, but because we like to support local music and because we know that the kids of today are the adults of tomorrow, so to speak. My point is, you have to remember that we have to prioritize with our limited attention. The shows which we know are going to make us money are going to get their emails answered first, their phone calls returned first, etc. I am sorry that you had a bad experience with our management and staff but you must realize that, when we get 100 emails a day and have tens of thousands of dollars at stake with the money making shows, sometimes the under-age shows will get short shrift. It’s nothing personal. We just can’t handle everyone the same way all the time. We’d need a staff of 20 instead of the 2 that we have. I often think that promoters of under-age shows want it to be like a show in their friend’s basement or something where it’s not done for money; it’s just to support the "scene". It’s just not like that in professional venues. I know it sounds cold and business-like but, well, it is. We bust our ass to put on the drinking shows and the kid shows are often a "when we can get to it" kind of thing. I hope this has cleared things up a bit or at least explained some of your experience with our club. I hope to see you out at shows sometime. Blue (from Tremont)

Stuart DBDD’s 2006 Ticket Fiasco So some of you may know, Stuart speeds, well last year he finally quit. He’s a "Safe Driver" now that hes taken his second "Prayer For Judgement", which was in August 2007. Well, unknown to him, his ticket from November 1st, 2006, was still open, and that lawyer supposedly was trying to get in contact with Stuart, but thats probably false. In January 2008, Stuart finally received a phone call from his office, asking if he had taken the class, confused, the thought it was the most recent ticket, which he had to take a class for, not a randomly year old ticket. He is now in a clusterfuck, the last ticket has to be reopened and have a different judgement placed upon it, making the money spent on that ticket (several 100), completely wasted money, as well as pay off whatever rejudging the ticket might be, plus another 100 for the class he still hasn’t taken, plus court cost from a ticket in 2006. OR he could take the class needed to keep his license, and with the "PJC", become the 3rd in 5 years, effectively losing his license. So pretty much, theres no way around needing money that he doesn’t have, to keep his license for a ticket nearly a year and a half old now.
Ok, so whats up? I’m Stuart DBDD, and it’d be hella awesome, if you could spare a few dollars or more, to help me pay for this, because literally, this ticket has disappeared for a year, and I currently am unable to fork out the money that I was when I paid off the last ticket. I think this whole situation is ridiculous, and I hate waking up to a phone call about how I’m at fault for this huge miscommunications nightmare. But yea, if you could donate, that would be fucking awesome. Please help out.

mmmm... speaking in third person..

-- edited to add venues i forgot. --
Who’s tired of Charlotte being passed over by touring bands?
Wanna do something about it? Good, because you can’t.
Heres the deal. We have several solutions for booking shows in Charlotte, and why they suck:
- Tremont Music Hall All Ages venue with 2 rooms. Ok? Whys it suck? Tremont’s constantly changing booking contacts, and multiple people read and ignore emails. Ok, still not seeing it. Well for local promoters, theres a harsh door deal that I myself don’t want to work with, which is a huge expenses amount in comparison to the amount made at the door of a show that Tremont keeps, on average 50% of any show goes directly to Tremont, giving the promoter the other 50% to pay bands, and in the business of being a promoter, you book shows to make money to book bigger shows to make money to book bigger shows. Its not exactly just people trying to make money off shows and not paying bands. With the time it takes, and the ignornance I’ve seen from people who work at Tremont, and the % made on the door, its not worth booking at Tremont. - EDIT: "Why not book local shows and let them worry about booking tours?" Tremont limits local shows to 3 bands now. Keep up to date.
- The Milestone Awesome venue, love the staff, known them for years. What’s the problem? Well not up to them, they were forced 18+ in 2005, pretty much ruining the chances of a competing venue for Tremont. This is really my only issue with booking at The Milestone.
- Amos’ Southend Bigger than Tremont, supposedly less to rent for shows. Problem? Theres no way in hell to contact them consistantly. I’ve never booked there though, for the reason I already stated.
- Snug Harbor Pirate themed venue, ran by ex-Tremont staff. Problem? Eh, 18+ venue, semingly smaller than the Milestone, and anti-outside promoters.
- Lunchbox Records Awesome local record shop, friendly to DIY bands touring the east coast. Problem? If you’ve ever been there you know Lunchbox is small, and with cd racks, is possible the smallest place in the city to have a show at. Fun? Yea, ofcourse. Booking tours with bands that are about to go nationa? Not so much.
- DAV Hall Possibly the only thing consistant in our scene right now are DAV hall shows, once a month now that Jon quit. Decent amount of kids always come out. So whats the problem? The shows are only booked by one group of people, shows are normally 8 dollars, and normally by most peoples standards, not worth the 8 dollars. They’ve proven that a consistant show every month at the same place, will build a following in our scene. Its worth to keep this in mind, because in theory, it can be duplicated at another location on another day of the month, and so on, til we have a set of shows every month, and take back this city? Maybe? Eh it might work.
- Charlottes Underground New place somewhere in Charlotte, booking lots of metal and DJ’s. No clue what this place really is, or how big it is, but thanks to the lack of info, theres no clue if its even all ages or not. I’d assume its 18+ from some of the flyers i’ve seen, but others don’t state it, very confusing.
- SK Net Coffee / Wifi shop in downtown, which has shows, currently booking a lot of local punk stuff, Rogue Nations, Not Likelys, and so on. Its booked almost every friday/saturday up til May currently. Problems? Its runner up for smallest place to have a show in Charlotte.
- "CS" Not even talking about this place. We personally don’t like the people who run it, no need to talk about it.
- The Evening Muse Never been there. Its in NoDa if you didn’t already know. I think CodeBlue Media did/does shows there, for more mellow bands. The vibe of the place by walking by it doesn’t seem like a place Seneca or ASGR would play.
- Neighborhood Theatre I asked their booking person in 2006 what it would cost to book there, which I was then given a number of $1200+ for renting and soundguy and what not. Not exactly what I wanted to hear when i was already going to pay touring bands a bunch as well and had no money saved for doing such an unstable investment. They normally have an older music crowd, for what they book (funk, random rock bands, so on). They do have some more youth oriented bands, but not often. Buckfest happened there in like 2004 I think, not sure who played, I remember the old version of Hell or Highwater played before they were instrumental, but obvious because Buck was/is in "HOHW".
- Avondale Church (spelling?) Nathans of Seneca’s dad runs this, and as I’ve asked several times, the place was originally having shows because ironically, no one was booking Seneca because they weren’t anyone at that time. And now that the original point of the place isn’t needed, his dad perfers doing softer stuff, which I respect, it sucks but its respectable.
- The Spot on Pecan / The Steeple / The Goblin. It’s gonna be a restaurant soon.
- The Room It was falling into a creek behind the building, and rotting. It then became a Pub, and now I think its closed again, not sure.
- The Door If you were at that show, it was in what felt like a doublewide trailer next to a church, it was way to easy to sneak into this show for so many of us. It wasn’t booked well, very conflicting groups of people, maining musicians, won’t get into that tho. This place has only had one show that I know of, and no one came because it was very confusing of where it was, which ended up being the church at Selwyn and Woodlawn.
- The Double Door Not even the style of music that can be booked there, plus its either 18 or 21+.
- Why not VFW Halls or other lodges? Quite honestly, I know of one VFW on Central, but its in an iffy area, and not sure where any parking is, maybe behind the building but it looks like a small lot that its on, small building and what not, so its not an option for bigger shows. Other than that, we have no options for
So, now that you see the options that we currently have that I know of, lets talk about whats possible to fix it. Leave comments if you know of places i missed.
