Vesper Public Relations. Los Angeles, miércoles 23 de septiembre del 2009. Después del éxito de sus presentaciones en Los Angeles COSMOPOLITAN, traerá de nueva cuenta esta vez a todo el público Californiano su sonido “Soo Sexy Disco” para deleitar a toda su base de fans que aumenta día a día.

En esta ocasión la banda oriunda de Hermosillo, Sonora México, se presentará en uno de los escenario más hot del momento y uno de los más importantes del circuito de clubes del corazón de Los Angeles, MUCHO WEDNESDAY's, donde la fiesta y la diversión están aseguradas cada noche gracias a la calidad de DJs y artistas que se presentan.

La cita será este próximo miércoles el 30 de septiembre 9 p.m.. El show promete ser una experiencia intensa en la que la banda presentará los temas de su más reciente producción “EP Machine” , por lo que podemos esperar una noche de muy buena música para bailar con el estilo único del “Soo Sexy Disco”, el cual ha sido creado por COSMOPOLITAN y que lo ha definido como una de las bandas más atractivas, electrizantes y de calidad en la escena alternativa del rock latino.

Gracias al resultado de su constante trabajo, la banda está muy solicitada entre el público norteamericano y latino, es por ello que en su agenda están ya pactadas más fechas de conciertos. El próximo 28 de septiembre estarán en San Diego, después regresarán a Los Angeles para presentarse en La Cita [Mucho Wednesdays], el 2 de octubre actuarán en Castroville y al día siguiente -3 de octubre- en San José.

Ésta es la tercera ocasión en la que COSMOPOLITAN se presentará en Los Angeles luego de la extraordinaria presentación que realizaron en el Festival SXSW 2009 (South By South West), donde no sólo lograron la admiración del público sino el reconocimiento de los medios de comunicación por la calidad de su propuesta. Anteriormente y como lo habíamos mencionado la banda se presentó en King, King, como parte de los eventos ‘Verano Alternativo de BMI’ y en el mítico escenario del House of Blues en Hollywood.

Este es sin duda un momento muy importante para la carrera de COSMOPOLITAN ya que están entrando con gran fuerza a la industria de la música alternativa internacional. Su “EP Machine” está cada vez más cotizado entre sus seguidores y las fechas de sus conciertos están abarrotadas. Así que no se vislumbran más que buenas noticias y muchos más logros para la banda.

Sobre “EP Machine”…

Dicha producción fue grabada por Diego Solórzano (Los Dynamite) en el Distrito Federal, bajo la producción de René Zemog (SourPop Records) y Edgar Lizárraga y masterizado en Quebec, Canadá en Gray Market Mastering.

El EP contiene 5 canciones inéditas de la banda “Hands Stereo Disco”, “Hey C'Mon”, “Just Give Me Bichola”, “Miss HTML” y “Don’t Stop Dancing Disco” y los remixes corrieron a cargo de: Dan Oh (Dim Mak) de Los Angeles, Moog Conspirancy (elektrotribe / cobalt / olaris) de Berlín, Detect y Blende (Mental Groove) de Francia y Ryan Justin de Los Angeles.

Las letras de las canciones nos hablan del desenfado que la banda tiene sobre las conductas establecidas por la sociedad que imponen un estilo de vida en el que el ser humanos se convierte en sujeto de ..convencion..alismos y estereotipos.

Los sonorenses simplemente se llevaron la noche, hipnotizaron al público con sus beats, su rock y por supuesto imponiendo moda con su estilo ‘electro fashion’ incomparable.

El balance de esta visita a Los Angeles, es sin duda favorecedor para la banda y les promete un futuro exitoso, tan es así que ya tienen planes para regresar a la ciudad este verano, además de visitar el resto del Sur de California, con miras a llegar hasta Nueva York.

Durante su visita a Los Angeles COSMOPOLiTAN tuvo una apretada agenda de compromisos con distintos medios de comunicación. El sábado 6 de junio se presentaron en el reconocido programa de KPFK Travel Tips For Aztlan (90.7 FM y el mundo a través de kpfk.org) en donde realizaron una entrevista y en donde prometieron ofrecer un de los ya conocidos “conciertos en vivo de estudio” en su próxima visita la cual será muy pronto.

Estuvieron también en los foros y ante los micrófonos de MTV T3rs, Galería Alternativa, El Calabozo Radio, Unión Rockera, El Show Del Abismo de San José, Mucho Wednesdays y Padrísimo Magazine. Por si esto fuera poco, el viernes 5 de junio se presentaron en el nuevo programa de televisión, Tocada TV, para el que grabaron un set en su totalidad y el cual se estrenará próximamente en los Estados Unidos.

Así que todavía le queda un largo camino por conquistar, pero lo que es un hecho que lo están haciendo con pasos firmes y para muestra está lo alcanzado en el SXSW 09, en el que literalmente se robaron el show en el Havana Bar Backyard. COSMOPOLiTAN – This three-piece party band from Mexico was a band we stumbled into while heading to see This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb. Guitar, drums and a laptop mixed with matching pleather Elvis suits are a combination that makes for an instant electronic dance party.....

If Laibach had been from Mexico and been outwardly happy instead of being German, dark and silly, they may have been Cosmopolitan. Cosmopolitan represents one of those SXSW “Aha!” moments, a band you just stumble upon, not realizing how much amazing music is out there until you find it. (…) Three guys, in matching outfits perched somewhere between Elvis and Devo, hammering out amazing electroclash with just a guitar, drums and about 800 million onstage controlled effects. It was fun and heavy at the same time. Generally, if you’ve dug industrial, ever, from Kraftwerk, through Wax Trax through Atari Teenage Riot, Cosmopolitan plays it, and strips off a bit of the dark to make it fun. They had the whole patio dancing and having a good time, without an ounce of pretension, which is sometimes something that electro bands really need to drop. ....

Todo parece indicar que esta primera experiencia para COSMOPOLiTAN en el SXSW rendirá frutos, ya que les abrió la puerta al público norteamericano y los expuso ante la industrial de la música alternativa internacional. Another SXSW has come and gone, and as always, this year topped previous years with its music and general fun factors. I’m not sure if the festival improves every year, or if I just get better at doing SXSW each year, but either way I’m happy and very sad to see it go.

Here are some of the best (and unfortunately, the worst) of what we managed to wrap our heads around this year.

Best New Faces

Every year, we catch sets by bands that we’ve never seen before. This year, there were two bands that stood above the others.

SA – While Samurai Attack first formed in Japan in the ‘80s, their American exposure has been limited. This Japanese Oi! band was a welcome surprise. Despite the fact that they were adopting a musical style that is not typically associated with Japan, they did it with such passion, enthusiasm and lack of sarcasm that the whole crowd was immediately drawn in. Aside from their thick accents, it was hard at times to tell whether we were seeing a street punk band from Boston, or the Japanese equivalent. They make punk rock fun again; leave it to Japan to remind us that it can be that fun.

iwrestledabearonce – This is another band we happened upon that I was blown away by. Raw brutal grindcore that segues easily into complex jazzy music and bouts with electro, fronted by a female lead singer who can drop death metal growls with the best men in the genre, while maintaining a singing voice that was positively Bjorkish.

Biggest Surprises

SXSW is known for its surprises: bands either making special, unscheduled experiences or bands that you stumble upon without realizing how good they would be. This year was heavy with those, but there were two that really stood out:

Cosmopolitan – This three-piece party band from Mexico was a band we stumbled into while heading to see This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb. Guitar, drums and a laptop mixed with matching pleather Elvis suits are a combination that makes for an instant electronic dance party.

Metallica – The biggest surprise was not that the band was playing SXSW; rumors were running throughout the festival and had, in fact, started days before the festival began. The biggest surprise about this band’s appearance was that I enjoyed it so much. I expected rock star-sized egos and a performance of the band’s more recent, more commercially successful, less hardcore tunes. Instead, we were treated to an interview with guitarist Kirk Hammett that found him to be laid back and friendly, and a performance that was heavily weighted with classic old tunes, most notably “Master of Puppets,” and designed more to rock the crowd than to stroke the band’s ego.

Performances that We Knew Would Be Good (and we weren’t disappointed)

Circle Jerks - We really hit the ground running this year, with one of the first shows we caught being by none other than the legendary Circle Jerks. I had honestly thought I'd never get the chance to see these infrequently touring legends, and with this opportunity, I saw the roots of hardcore compressed in a barrage of short, fast punk classics.

Amanda Palmer – The solo set from the Dresden Dolls vocalist (and founder of the punk cabaret) was wonderful for its location – it was in a church – and for its content. Palmer, who we’d met at the airport on the flight in (which could also allow her to grace the “Biggest Surprises” list), and in a restaurant the next day, played a set that spoke to the amazing acoustics of the space, including an a cappella performance of “The Wind That Shakes The Barley,” sans microphone, and many of her softer tunes that don’t carry as well in a rock club.

New York Dolls – We caught this legendary band in a warehouse space late one night, and despite the fact that we were tucked in the back and could barely see the band, we didn’t feel left out of the action at all. They unveiled songs from their upcoming album (Spoiler Alert! It’s going to be great, if these songs are any indication), and blasted through classics like “Personality Crisis,” “Pills” and “Trash.”

The next morning, we caught the band again, from a similar vantage, as we stood on the street while they played on the roof of a bar for Rachael Ray’s party. Again, even without seeing the band, the performance was amazing.

Biggest Disappointments

Peter Murphy – Poor sound, a late-opening club and a set devoid of any classics made the performance by the legendary Bauhaus frontman one that was decidedly mediocre.

This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb – Despite having waited years to catch this Florida-based folk punk band, and despite the fact that they really sounded great, I was so disappointed by the lack of respect that they showed for the band that had played previously that I walked out on them after three songs. That pretension goes so heavily against what SXSW is about that it left a bad taste in my mouth.

Quaff – After seeing the members of this Japanese band promoting themselves all over 6th Street in full regalia, complete with giant hair and colored contacts, we knew this was a set we couldn’t miss. Unfortunately, there is no way the band could live up to its own hype. This amazing-looking band unfortunately plays exactly what they look like they should – boring trashy hair metal, like a tired clone of Poison.

SourPop Records, Los Angeles. 1 de abril del 2009. La edición 2009 del Festival SXSW 2009 celebrado en Austin, Texas, resultó memorable para COSMOPOLiTAN, quienes demostraron la calidad de su sonido experimental electro pop. El público que se reunió tanto en el Habana Bar Backyard y en el Mexi America Arte Museam quedó extasiado con la música de la banda sonorense que recorrió el lugar como una descarga de energía en cada una de sus interpretaciones.....

La cita en el Habana Bar Backyard fue el miércoles 18 de marzo a las 11 de la noche, donde compartieron escenario con Los Fancy Free, Satin Dolls, Songs For Eleonor, entre otros. El público que aplaudió y celebró cada uno de los temas de COSMOPOLiTAN fue internacional, entre los que se encontraban latinoamericanos, japoneses, europeos y por supuesto latinoamericanos, quienes a pesar de las diferencias culturales se unieron en un ambiente de fiesta y diversión. Entre los asistentes también se encontraban medios de comunicación y personalidades de la industria musical, quienes quedaron sorprendidos ante la potencia y calidad de la agrupación. ....

Gracias al excelente resultado que obtuvieron en esta primera presentación fueron invitados a compartir su música el viernes 20 de marzo en el Mexi America Arte Museam. Fueron tantas las buenas críticas o el llamado ‘buzz’ del público y los medios, que el público se reunió para ver el espectáculo musical de COSMOPOLiTAN. En esta oportunidad alternaron con Pilar Díaz (ex vocalista de Los Abandoned) y Monte Negro y Leche, la respuesta del público fue una vez más extraordinaria.....

Durante el festival, el grupo realizó también varias actividades de promoción con diversos medios de comunicación como KOOP Radio 90.7, Saucido Slant, La Banda Elástica, Austin Vida, HispanicGo.com, Matadorytoros.com, entre otros que reconocieron el trabajo de la banda. ....

If Laibach had been from Mexico and been outwardly happy instead of being German, dark and silly, they may have been Cosmopolitan.
Cosmopolitan represents one of those SXSW “Aha!” moments, a band you just stumble upon, not realizing how much amazing music is out there until you find it.
We were walking down 6th Street, on our way to see This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb, when we heard a band playing on the patio at Habana, doing a really crunchy C&CMusic Factory cover. How could we not take a peak?
This is what we saw:
Three guys, in matching outfits perched somewhere between Elvis and Devo, hammering out amazing electroclash with just a guitar, drums and about 800 million onstage controlled effects. It was fun and heavy at the same time.
Generally, if you’ve dug industrial, ever, from Kraftwerk, through Wax Trax through Atari Teenage Riot, Cosmopolitan plays it, and strips off a bit of the dark to make it fun. They had the whole patio dancing and having a good time, without an ounce of pretension, which is sometimes something that electro bands really need to drop.

{Lipstick Terror’s frenetic rhythms, sinister peals, apocalyptic guitar riffs and Carlos Quintero’s hardcore bellow collide like Britney’s flagging career and her kids’ incipient therapy bills. The quintet’s spark-throwing conflagration was born, like many riots, out of boredom. “We got tired of going to shows where the bands all sounded the same, se we started doing our own stuff”, says Quintero of the band’s beginning five years ago. They’re informed by San Diego’s noise-rock scene (particularly labels Three One G and GSL), with a passion for spazzy, attention-addled blasts of careening bedlam. “When we write songs, it’s like we come up with five songs and cram it all into one,”Quintero offers. Electro is currently the biggest scene in Mexicali, and they’ll frequently play with DJs, which the singer describes as occasionally “awkward”. But the band have taken the experience to heart and are presently incorporating laptop beats into their sound, similar to the digital hardcore of Atari Teenage Riot. “If we were a horror movie, it’d be violent and gory, but beautiful at the same time”, Quintero suggests. “And it’d need Bela Lugosi”. Hardcore synth horror music from Mexico. These guys are truly awesome! Their experimentation with screamo, synth based rock has lead them to SXSW, where they will most likely frighten the daylights out of many unsuspecting music critics. Acerca de Lipstick Terror…....

De la amistad y del gusto de hacer música nace Lipstick Terror a finales del 2003 en Mexicali, Baja California. Inicialmente los 6 amigos que integraban la banda se unieron con el único fin de crear música de acuerdo a parámetros poco convencionales, en los que fusionan distintos géneros musicales con una voz desgarradora.....

Como en muchas partes de México, las influencias entre lo mexicano y lo americano se unen en una cultura que Lipstick Terror quiere reflejar en su música, es por eso que se atreven a cantar en dos idiomas o mejor dicho en uno: el spanglish. ....

About art concept of ‘EP Machine’…....

The album’s artwork is based on relevant icons of their native Hermosillo, Sonora such as: the consumption of barbeque (red meat), the deer horns which is a symbol of the state but at the same time is the state with most freedom to hunt, the photo of Mexican ex president, Álvaro Obregón combined with cosmopolitan images of Asia and visual elements that denotes punk tendencies. The illustration was created by Francisco Outón and designed by Rene Zemog from SourPop Records in Mexico City.....
