Last week I recieved
Audix Fireball V and
Seydel 1847 from
coast2coastmusic.comI bought audix with impedance transformer. I can say that only in year of use all advantages and disadvantages will become apparent. I just played two jazz gigs using fireball through my tube amp (copy of fender pro jr) and I like it very much. I like it much more than my current sennheiser e835s. Sound is very natural for harmonica, no needs for EQ-tweaking. It sounds round, warm and clean. No mud in bass notes and no squeezes when playing high notes and especially high bends. Very ergonomic, light to hold, useful volume control. I want to compare it vs. my preferable vocal microphone Shure beta 57, and it seems that audix is better. No problems with hand noise subjected by some reviewers. No feedback at all!!!! I place mic in the front of amp at amp volume 4 and don't hear feedback.
Seydel 1847 is not in my taste. Price/quality correlation is relatively low.
Wooden comb is ok (although i don't like wood), no swelling after hours of practice (MB deluxe still subjected to swell). Holes are bit wider than on hohners, so no problems with coordination (as on chromatics and MB 364s), but harmonica itself is the same widers so spacers at the left and at the right a bit narrower than necessary for me. Not the great problem although.
I produce all overblows out of box, but they squeeze when holding and bending them. However can't produce overdraw, but i'm not overdraw master (I practice them at home, but still don't use live). After arcing and gaping overblow are OK, but 9 and 10 overdraw still not good.
There great mistakes in reed technology. First reeds have cross marks after producing, they may cause fatigue earlier. Hering have the same problem. And reed profile is bad too: rivet plate and the reed are not smoothed and has a step, so this place may cause fatigue problems too. Reeds have some wavy arc, so I had to fix it.
The main problem for me is that reeds respond slower than brass reed and I have problems to play very fast.
So golden melody and special 20 still my preferable harps. MB deluxe are good too. My custumized sp20 Bb sound richer and fuller than 1847, but 1847 sounds fuller than golden melody in Bb. All three sounds very good. I will play this 1847 but don't want to buy them more. It's good harm, but not for my taste.
