We need some SP fans in IL, MO, IA, CO, NM, TX, AR, and AL to help us book some shows in your area.
We need 4 things: 1. at least $50 guarantee, $100 - $150 is what we are shooting for but depending on exact distance and a few other things we can do $50. 2. a decent pa system that can do at least vocals, keyboards and kick drum 3. at least 2 local bands on the show so that we know some people will come. 4. we would like to not play last or first. If you think you can help us out, shoot us a message.

and Yes, if you book us for a show your band can open. (I know we will get asked that about 5 times. :D )

Society's Plague: "They're Doing Something Right"

(headline / article removed)

When and why was Society’s Plague formed? Had all of the members known each other already?

I had a band named "society's plague" ever since I was in 9th grade, but I wouldnt concider the current society's plague to have started until 2005.
Me, our lead singer Matt, and then bassist Seth had been playing some songs in my garage for a few months, and we asked a friend of mine and Matt's named roger
to also play guitar for us. I concider this the forming of the "real" Society's Plague.
We went through a few lineup changes over the past few years but Me, Matt and Roger have always been in the band.
We added Kate, who was a friend of Matt's to keyboards after maybe our 7th or 8th show.
Matt met Mike at his day job shortly after we parted ways with Seth, so we added him as our bassist.
After 4 other drummers, we were finally able to grab JD for drums.
Roger and Matt had both known him for a long time, but he was always in another band so he was never able to play drums for us.
Hopefully in the years to come we will not have to make any other lineup changes.

How would you describe Society’s Plague to someone completely oblivious to their music?

If they are familiar with metal, I like to call us Epic Melodic Metalcore.
To someone who is not I would say we are a very melodic metal band with lots of harmonies, keyboards and a mixture of clean and harsh vocals.

Your band has a large internet presence. How much work do you put into promoting your band online, and what kind of things do you do to get your name out there?

We put ALOT of work into promoting ourselves, especially online.
Me and Matt both spend hours each day maintaining the Society's Plague Myspace, Facebook and Last.fm, approving comments, answering people's questions, giving advice, etc.
We also buy some targeting online advertising that has been working our extremely well for us,
not to mention we try to get all of our current fans to spread our name by telling all of their friends.

On September 30, you’ll be performing a show that includes big names like In Flames, Between the Buried and Me, and 3 Inches of Blood. You also played a show during the Music as a Weapon Tour alongside Disturbed and Lacuna Coil. How do you guys land such great gigs?

Because we work our asses off to get our name out and impress the people booking the shows, haha. Having good recordings up and a professional looking myspace helps too.
We spend a lot of time doing networking at every show we play so we can get as many contacts in the industry as we can.

Do you ever find yourselves nervous before big shows?

We used to find ourselves nervous before most shows early in our career, but now we seem to just find ourselves anxious and excited before shows.
Sometimes to the point where you can see JD jumping up and down and hitting things with his sticks before our set, haha.

What can fans expect from Society’s Plague in the future, especially after you raised the bar so high with “The Mercy Untold”?

After The Mercy Untold we started working with a new producer and a new studio.
This guy is fantastic and has been producing big names such as Chimaira, It Dies Today, Walls of Jericho and more.
We already recorded one song with him, The Few And The Fallen, which you can hear on our Myspace/Facebook.
If all goes well we are hoping to have our full length album recorded there and released sometime in mid-late 2010.
It will blow everyone's mind and sound very distinctly Society's Plague.

The Few and the Fallen

Show me what makes you stand up
When everything
Turns to ashes

Paralyzed
By my own senses
Holding me up by the throat
The signs all are overwhelming
Mistakes and mistakes building
Hold on to what you can when
Everything is stripped away
The Lies and fights and blood and tears will
Flood the lungs they breathe with
Hold on when the time comes
You'll see that
the pain was not in vain

Hole up in your own perception
Wrap yourself in the lies that shield you from
The life you've forfeit
For what?
Well not me not anymore
This time is mine
I will stand up fot
The ones who cannot stand themselves

(Chorus)
When your destruction comes will you crawl
On your hands and knees
When this moment comes will you
Stand up and Fight

Stand up and Fight

Or will you fall like the rest

(Chorus)

Will you let this moment define you?
Or will you let it break you

A Better View on a Bitter World

See through
This constant struggle
Blinding you from what
Matters the most
Escape the prison you're in
The walls of your regret
The freedom calling you
If only you will stand

Do what it takes to make you
Move on from what will take you
Away from everything
Think about the failures and
Release yourself from that fall
The poison in your words
And forget
The ones who've brought you there

One last chance to stop
the thoughts from overwhelming
This isn't the way
To let yourself go
Keep your head up
And take them

(Chorus)
Just keep it coming
Knock me down
And I won't let you keep me down
This time
This isn't what my lifes about
The final say is mine

Disgusted
With your deception
The signs ring out like
The lies you spit

(Chorus)

And I know what
It means to suffer
Through the pains and trials that
We must
Endure always
But to stand
Is to have survived.

The Mercy Untold

One life and another
Million to lose
This is where it all begins
Think about your life
And everyone you love
What would you
Give up for them?

I'll just ignore the lies
Pretend that it's alright
Just look past your face
I know it's not alright
How can I believe
In something that seems so naive
When even my own truths
Seem only to deceive
Me and I
Don't know
Where to hide
Just keep on running until
The thought subside
One more seconds gone
Another moment lost
Just think what could've been
But never mind the cost

I'll just ignore the lies
Pretend I know what's right
Even though I know
That I can't win this fight
The gears that turn with
A ticking vengeance in mind
Forcing bliss on us all
The echoes far behind

What is there to lose
You cannot stop these hands
Collecting on the debt that
Every life demands
So take advantage of
The time that we have left
Before your time will come

(Chorus)
To watch it all fall down
As it all fades away
Where do we go now
When we should have
Held on
But what matters now
As it all fades away
And the hand stops

I'll just ignore the lies
Pretend that it's alright
I'll just look past your face
I know it's not alright
Just let it go
Just let it go
Sit here and Wait
I know how hard
Is is to look past this
For something more to believe
and not my own

(Chorus)

You cannot stop
These hand from ticking away
They're counting down
Counting Down

A Heart Felt Forgery

Look me in the eyes
When you say those words
Something pure and Just?
No only hurt
Take a leap of faith
Only to fall face down

You showed me yourself
And I watched you fall down
You compromised yourself
And all of your beliefs
For what?

(Chorus)
Don't follow me
Cause I can see
You're not the one
You claim to be
And I will not falter

I'll watch you drift away
Into your
Own insecurity
And Broken is all you'll be

The words were right
But the intent was flawed now
The time was here
And just as quickly gone

(Chorus)

And I'll watch you bleed for me
And Broken is all you'll be

Look me in the eyes
When you say those words
Something pure and just
No
Only hurt
Take a leap of faith
Only to fall face down

You showed me yourself
And I watched you fall down
You showed me yourself
And I'll watch you bleed for me

The Masquerade

Reveal the poison
Covering
Everything
Like malice gripping it's hand
To choke out impurities
Zig zags coursing through our veins
What stand now to purify
Lead the thoughts just a bit further
To a conclusion you can't deny
It all come to this comes
To what is not defined
What you see worth living for
When death is justified

That's right
Just keep it in
Make sure it hits you right here
Push past the surface and
Reveal the
Fear

(Chorus)
You act like you've won and
There's Nothing to fear
There's no longer restraints
To hold you here
And I will define
What you'll never be

Never be

That's right
Just keep in
Make sure it hits you right here
Push past the surface and
Reveal the
Fear

(Chorus)

You act like you've won
And theres nothing
To fear
There's not longer restraints
To hold you here
And you'll go on with
Life day by day
Following suit
With the masquerade

Forged By Fury

Just one chance to prevent
This from happening
Hold the lines
Their footsteps are deafening
This is how it begins
The air thick with sweat and fear
No room for defeat
Men and gods will know what happened here
One man stand above
Casting shadows upon
The feeble truths
And all who are looking on

Now the silence consumes
One million all standing still
Ready to spill their own blood
In defense of
All that is just and right
Their weapons all held up high
Poised for the final fight
Their blood will
Flow

The Stars fade
Releasing the dawn
And it's fiery exposure
Of all that went on
The man stand
Observing the sight
The pain in his eyes
The only thing..

What is left when all is gone
And the bodies of the dead
Are all our children look upon

(Chorus)
You cannot see through
His weary eyes
To keep
His convictions true

The battle continues to grow
once more there is peace
But was it worth the price
The right slaying the wrong
Tightening the vice
The light grows dim
As the man turns
One step at a time
For he is not done yet
The night is young
This is his time to change it all
The gift this one man bears will help
Shape it all

Open up your mind
Accept the truth of things
The words he prophecies
Will for ever ring

When this clock
Strikes the hand of two
All show know and see the things I say are true

(Chorus)

The hand strikes
The sirens sound
Everything you once knew
Crumbles now
The light overwhelms
The man standing tall
Do you know who I am?
I am the voice

The redemption of all
The last judge and jury
The sword of the damned
I am forged by fury

Louisville Music News (March 2009) –

Society's Plague Slams:

I just cannot stop talking about this fine band of youngsters from Lexington, Kentucky and I'm not the only one, either. This six-piece original metal band has opened for Chimaira, Unearth, Soilent Green, 36 Crazyfists, Emmure, Born Of Osiris and many others. People in Louevil are just now learning about them.....

A buzz is developing fast and with good reason. I had a band cancel on my last show and these guys and gals came in on a few days notice and completely blew the crowd's minds. When this band started playing, jaws dropped and time seemed to stand still. Afterward, they were quite happy to have so many new fans. Not only do they wail, but they are total professionals. too. Three of them aren't yet 21, the youngest only 17. They had to sit in the parking lot until their set. They didn't mind though and were happy as heck to be able to play to an appreciative crowd. Listening to the CD they gave me at the show, it's clear that they must have spent a bit of money on the recording. The music is energetic, melodic thrash metal with cool keyboards, very Euro-sounding, maybe Fear Factory meets Iron Maiden meets All That Remains. The songwriting is good, and the melodies instantly draw you in.....

Their 'live' performance was a spectacle and very entertaining They have heaviness, clean, pretty guitar parts, speed blasts, pretty piano work, fat, chugging guitar riffs, and some nice screams mixed with real singing. The guitarwork is impressive, the tones scorching. Nice equipment.....

Their duo guitarwork concentrates more on melody and groove more than showing off. Too many bands try to be guitar speed demons when they should be more focused on hooks and melody. Society's Plague is the perfect medium. Keyboardist Kate plays coolly and does not overdo, blending well with the rest of the band.....

Matt Newton's vocals are good, melodic with heavy growls/screams when needed. Actual notes are hit, and melodies are achieved here. He evokes 18 Visions, Atreyu and other Southern California bands. Matt is also a very good frontman and can work a crowd well, issuing nothing but confidence. This band is ready to go on a major tour as an opening act and are up to the task.....

You can see them play in Louevil at Headliners on April 18. Be there! Myspace.com/societysplague

Hey guys! Lexington's Music Entertainment Magazine featured us in this months issue, and this is what they had to say!

"First up this month is Lexington's own Society's Plague.  These guys
(and girl) have only been around for a few years, but have already
managed to attract quite a few die hard fans not only in KY, but all
across the country.  I've known of them for a while now (I actually
gave one of their guitarists lessons when he was starting out) and my
old bands' singer used to live across the street from their practice
place, so I feel like I've known about this band since their
inception.  Their myspace page is blowin' up with listens and it is
here that I went to write this review.

Society's Plague is all about Hardcore Metal and their latest
internet release "The Mercy Untold" is a good representation of
this.  My initial thought is that their sound is in the same vein as
bands like Trivium, but they throw a curve in with vocalist Matt
dropping down to a well sung chorus that offsets the obligatory
screaming verse sections.  Drummer Sean T. is very steady and his
double kicks are right on the money.  Duel guitarists Joe and Roger
(first names only for this band!) are very tight rhythmically and
their harmony lines in the verses are very well arranged and fit the
song perfectly.  Keyboardist Kate adds some well placed ambiance
behind the thick wall of guitar, and the guitar solo sections are
preceded by a solo of her own where she shows she's more than just a
backing player in the band.  The guitar solos fit into the song
nicely, but although they are well played, are slightly pedestrian
for a song that has such a heavy musical bed.  Not bad, I was just
expecting some blazing sweep picking or something similar for a song
such as this.  The other songs on the site are similar to "Mercy" but
the band is very good at not just re-writing the same song over and
over, and so each song has a well defined hook and will keep any
metalhead happy from beat one to the final cymbal crash.  As I write
this (mid-July), the band is getting ready to play Headliners in
Louisville with national acts Chimaira and Soilent Green before they
pack their bags and  head to Florida for a few dates in the Tampa
area – the birthplace of Death Metal.  They haven't posted any August
dates as of yet, but if you are a fan of bands like Trivium and
Killswitch Engage, then you owe it to yourself to check out Society's
Plague the next time they come thru your town.  I guarantee you will
leave with a sore neck and satisfied earholes!  Until then you can
check 'em out online at http://myspace.com/societysplague."

We think it's pretty cool!

=P
