Can you give us a brief history of your playing career?
I started playing guitar at 13, and didn't have anything resembling a career in music, till I moved to Athens, GA and picked up pedal steel. Athens, at the time had a scene that generally frowned upon slick musicianship, so I fit right in. It was there that I met Patterson Hood, and began playing with him in the original Drive-by Truckers lineup. I've also played with many other bands over the years.

What inspired you to start playing guitar?
I've wanted to play guitar for almost as long as I can remember. Early favorites are Queen, The Beatles, and Jimi Hendrix.

What was your first electric guitar?
My 1st electric was a double cutaway les paul jr. It has been broken and repaired several times, and I still own it.

What are your top 5 favorite records?
I'm not crazy about "top lists" but here are some favorites.
Up on the Sun - The Meat Puppets
Blonde on Blonde - Bob Dylan
My Aim is True - Elvis Costello
Key Lime Pie - Camper Van Beethoven
Fox Confessor Brings the Flood - Neko Case

What was the proudest moment and/or performance of your playing career?
Maybe playing Conan O'brien, or the Grammy nomination for the Bettye Lavette record I played on. I'm also plenty proud of "Brighter Than Creation's Dark" - the latest DBT record.

How did you hear about Reverend?
I heard about Reverend several years ago from a friend who had purchased a Reverend bass, which I understand aren't being made anymore.

What Reverend guitar(s) are you using?
A Metallic Red Warhawk II 390 with Les Trem.

What do you like about your Reverend guitar?
The quality and playability. I like the feel of the neck. There's not a single buzzy spot on it. I love the Les Trem - it stays in tune perfectly. I like the way the guitar looks. I'm a little conservative when it comes to how a guitar should look. The Warhawk has a classic look while being an original design.

What amps and pedals do you currently use?
I've been playing through a 70's Fender Deluxe Reverb, mainly. For pedals, a Line 6 DL4 Delay, an Xotics BB Preamp, and a Rat pedal. I'm working on relying on the overdrive/distortion pedals less, and using the guitar's volume knob instead.

Do you have any unusual hobbies, skills, or pastimes you'd like to share with us?
I enjoy playing ping-pong when I'm home.

Do you have any advice for up and coming players?
Do your own thing, and don't be difficult to be around.

Please tell us about any of your current projects, tours, cds, etc. we should know about:
Drive-by Truckers are about to do a fall tour co-headlining with The Hold Steady. This December Japancakes - an instrumental band I play in will record its eighth record. Also, The Wydelles, a band fronted by Bo Bedingfield will make a record. Early next year DBT will go into the studio for their 9th.

Can you give us a brief history of your playing career?
Club bands after graduating from college. Formed Cry Of Love and put two records out. Played with the Black Crowes next (including our shows with Jimmy Page). Played/recorded with Chris Robinson's New Earth Mud. Played in Joe Perry's solo band, then toured with the Dixie Chicks, then Peter Frampton, now playing with Jakob Dylan. Write songs, play on records and demos..

What inspired you to start playing guitar?
I was always drawn to it. My friend played so my parents signed me up for lessons.

What was your first electric guitar?
Crown Les Paul copy.

What are your top 5 favorite records?
Today or tomorrow?

What was the proudest moment and/or performance of your playing career?
There are way too many to mention (and they keep happening - opening for Eric Clapton tonite) but I'm mostly proud of the fact that I have been able to do (and continue to do) everything and much, much more that I dreamed of doing as a kid.

How did you hear about Reverend?
Can't remember but I met Joe somewhere and he was really cool.

What Reverend guitar(s) are you using?
A Roundhouse RT.

What do you like about your Reverend guitar?
Sound great, record well, play great and something that is overlooked a lot: they are set up perfectly out of the case.

What amps and pedals do you currently use?
Amps: Matchless, Fender, Germino, Dr. Z, and a bunch of others. Effects: Timmy, Boss, Teese, Line 6, Fulltone, Keeley, Demeter, Z Vex, Hughes and Kettner, Radial, Analog Man, Pro Analog and I'm sure I'm forgetting some.

Do you have any unusual hobbies, skills, or pastimes you'd like to share with us?
Working in my yard/gardening and running but those aren't very unusual.

Do you have any advice for up and coming players?
That depends on your goals but above all else try to have fun and enjoy music.

Please tell us about any of your current projects, tours, cds, etc. we should know about:
Jakob Dylan tour, co-wrote and played on Keith Gattis' record "Bones" that will be coming out and play in his band, recorded the title song for the new Tim Robbins movie with the Dixie Chicks, always playing around town or in the studio when I'm home in Nashville.

Can you give us a brief history of your playing career?
I started Too Slim and the Taildraggers in 1986 and have been doing that ever since. I had a rockabilly punk band called The Studebakers and also played country music in The Hombres. Too Slim and the Taildraggers have been collaborating with the Spokane Jazz Orchestra over the past 10 years. It's very exciting because they wrote charts for our music, which gives the songs a whole new dimension. I've been a member of the Love Ride Allstar Band which included Robbie Krieger (The Doors), Todd Smallwood (Mick Fleetwood Band), Rusty Anderson (Paul McCartney Band), Andrew Kastner (Jack Mack and the Heart Attack) and Les Falconer III (Keb' Mo' Band). My song The Fortune Teller is featured on the Born to Ride - Love Ride 24 CD... we're in good company, it also features Jeff Healey (God rest his soul), Gregg Allman, Andy Summers, Brian Setzer, Randy Bachman, and Robby Krieger to name a few.

What inspired you to start playing guitar?
I saw ZZ Top live when I was about 13 and there was no turning back!

What was your first electric guitar?
My first electric guitar was some crazy looking Japanese model with a bunch of push buttons on it, I can't recall the name, but I referred to it as the "Vegamatic". I paid $50.00 for it. I had to save my allowance, mow lawns stuff like that to get the money to buy it. My Mom bought me a Strat after that. I think she figured I was pretty serious about it.

What are your top 5 favorite records?
• Allman Brothers – Live at the Fillmore
• ZZ Top - Tres Hombres
• Lynyrd Skynyrd – Second Helping
• Neil Young – Harvest
• George Harrison – All Things Must Pass

What was the proudest moment and/or performance of your playing career?
I just sold out the Fox Theater in the town I grew up in (Spokane WA), and it was the night after Tony Bennet sold out the same venue. That made me feel pretty good! You could still feel Tony Bennet's mojo in the house! There have been lots of good moments, I feel lucky I get to do what I want for a living.

How did you hear about Reverend?
Ad in Guitar Player Magazine.

What Reverend guitar(s) are you using?
I use a Warhawk HB and a Slingshot. I would like to add a Volcano to my collection. I used the Reverends extensively on The Fortune Teller. A great example of the awesome tone is on the tracks Big Guns and She Gives me Money. All the slide guitar tunes from The Fortune Teller are Reverends. The tone will curl your hair, or straighten it if it's already curly!

What do you like about your Reverend guitar?
I love the tone and playability, and they look awesome as well! I get people asking me about them all the time at shows.

What amps and pedals do you currently use?
I use a Reverend 40/60 Hellhound Head with a 410 Cabinet. I don't think there are too many of the 410 cabinets around. I love that amp! I am sad that Reverend discontinued the amplifier division. My pedalboard consists of a Reverend Drivetrain II overdrive pedal, a Carl Martin Tremovibe, Vox Wah, Boss Digital Delay, and tuner. I use a Samson Wireless. Start making those amps again.

Do you have any unusual hobbies, skills, or pastimes you'd like to share with us?
I just love to hang out with my wife, kids, and dog… go to shows, write songs, record, and listen to music! I like to practice as well.

Do you have any advice for up and coming players?
If you plan on going on tour, start saving your gas money now!!

Please tell us about any of your current projects, tours, cds, etc. we should know about:
Our current CD, The Fortune Teller hit the stores internationally in March. We did a "Radiohead" like self release just selling it on our website and live shows initially, and actually have been charting on the Billboard Top Blues Album Chart as high as 9. We will be on the road in 2008 promoting The Fortune Teller across the US.

Can you give us a brief history of your playing career?
Started in high school. Played in a couple of bands and then in a band with Eddie and our original drummer in the 80's called Thai Pink. That morphed into the Black Supersuckers which turned into the Supersuckers. We are celebrating 20 years together in November. Well over 3,000 shows logged all over the world and looking forward to the next 20!

What inspired you to start playing guitar?
A friend in 8th grade brought his guitar to school and played the riff to Rock Bottom by U.F.O. I was stunned. Then as a junior in high school I was really heavily into AD/DC (still am) and knew somehow I wanted to figure out how to play. I still have my worn out copy of Back In Black where i took the needle and dragged it across the turntable to start a song over to learn the riff. I almost have it figured out now.

What was your first electric guitar?
A Peavey T-15 with the Decade amp that came with it. Wish I still had it.

What are your top 5 favorite records?
• Powerage - AD/DC
• Exile On Main Street - Rolling Stones
• Still Alive and Well - Johnny Winter
• Fandango - ZZ Top
• Evil - Howlin' Wolf
And anything Steve Marriot has ever done
(all these change all the time but that is what my fingers put down today)

What was the proudest moment and/or performance of your playing career?
I would say backing up Willie Nelson on the Tonight Show and Recording with Steve Earle. Also making our new record which is going to be amazing and will surprise a lot of people.

How did you hear about Reverend?
My ex wife's brother went to school with Joe Naylor. I met him a long time ago. I had then heard of the drivetrain pedal and liked it a lot. My original one was stolen long ago.

What Reverend guitar(s) are you using?
I am awaiting the Buckshot. I also use the Volcano.

What do you like about your Reverend guitar?
Quality and affordability. It is nice that a company is making instruments that pro players can use but kids just starting out can actually afford to buy and rock with.

What amps and pedals do you currently use?
I use a Satellite 36 Watt and a custom made Marshall 50 watt through 2 different 2x12 cabs. The Satellite is just the best el84 based amp I have ever had. Everyone must check them out. Pedals include a RMC Teese picture Wah, Analog Man King Of Tone, Sunface Fuzz and Comprosser, Lovepedal COT 50, MXR Phase 90 and Carbon Copy Delay and a BFD Tremolo. I use a Radial switcher and a Trailer Trash Board.

Do you have any unusual hobbies, skills, or pastimes you'd like to share with us?
I own a Coffee shop with my friend Pat Brown in Tacoma called Satellite Coffee Company. Go to wwww.satellitecoffeeco.com to check it out. I pull a mean espresso and am a total geek about coffee. I enjoy a little snowboarding as well.

Do you have any advice for up and coming players?
Be yourself for better or worse. Find your own sound. Borrow from the greats but make sure you find your own voice on the instrument and play from the gut. Phrasing is everything, perfection is boring!

Please tell us about any of your current projects, tours, cds, etc. we should know about:
We have a new record coming out hopefully in August called "Get It Together". I am working on some songs for my own record as well (that might never get done). We are always on tour. Going out with The Reverend Horton Heat and Nashville Pussy in June for a month. beyond that is Canada, midwest and east coast and hopefully South America later this year.

Can you give us a brief history of your playing career?
I started learning to play when I was about 8. My first gigs were playing on an early morning TV show hosted by Al Lester. He was a local bluegrass musician, did some sessions, and was mainly a fiddler (I mean played a mean fiddle). But like most people of his generation, could play anything good enough to make some money come out of it. He had a little shop out back of his house where he rebuilt fiddles and gave lessons and I was one of his students. I was on his show 3 times when I was about 9 or 10.

I formed a few bands with guys from high school and maybe played 1 or 2 gigs with each and then lost interest for a while. I was a lousy student and my parents always used that as an excuse to put a stop to any of my rock 'n' roll ambitions. I can't say I blame them. They were afraid I would fall in with the wrong crowd and end up playing dive bars, sleeping on filthy floors, and coming home with nothing to show for it. And just to show them, I spent 20 years doing just that!

What inspired you to start playing guitar?
I was so young when I decided I wanted to play guitar, I don't remember what it was. It was probably something on TV.

What was your first electric guitar?
My first electric was a UNIVOX. It was a strat body with 3 humbuckers and a neck like a fence post. The amp was a pignose 1x12. I played my first bar gig with that set up.

What are your top 5 favorite records?
As far as albums I like... I like every album anybody had passion to make and disregarded what anybody had to say about it. I know there are more than 5.
• Live at San Quinton - Johnny Cash
• Layla - Derek and the Dominos
• To Long In The Wasteland - James McMurtrey
• One More From The Road - Lynyrd Skynrd
• Sticky Fingers - Rolling Stones

What was the proudest moment and/or performance of your playing career?
I guess my proudest momement had to be when we headlined the Fillmore in San Fransisco the first time.

How did you hear about Reverend?
I first heard about Reverend about 7 or 8 years ago in an ad for the hellhound combo amps.

What Reverend guitar(s) are you using?
What kind of Reverend guitar do I use? I didn't know there was going to be a test on this.

What do you like about your Reverend guitar?
I like the look. It's unique yet traditional. The tremolo is the best ever, and the Bass Contour control is a function that actually works.

What amps and pedals do you currently use?
The set up I currently use live is a Sommatone Roaring 40 head with 2x12 cab and a Budda wah, Seymore Duncan Pickup booster, Boss Super Overdrive, Electro Harmonix Holy Stain, and a Boss Space Echo.

Do you have any unusual hobbies, skills, or pastimes you'd like to share with us?
This used to be my hobby, but I fucked it up by trying to make a living out of it. I'm looking for a new one.

Do you have any advice for up and coming players?
My advice to up and coming players is look in the mirror and ask yourself, "Do I hate anybody bad enough to do this to myself?" If the answer is yes, buy a sleeping bag. If It's no, get a job.

Please tell us about any of your current projects, tours, cds, etc. we should know about:

Can you give us a brief history of your playing career?
Began playing clubs at about fifteen. Recorded an album for Epic records with my first band in '90, toured the US and UK. Recorded and toured with the Black Crowes from '91-'97. Played with various people including Blue Floyd, Chris Stills and many others. Formed Federale with Luther Russell which got signed to Geffen records and just prior to entering studio with producer Jack Douglas (John Lennon, Aerosmith) got dropped with thousands of other bands and employees. Recorded solo record, It's About Time. Toured and recorded with Ben Harper including the Grammy & NAACP award winning There Will Be A Light. Toured again with the Black Crowes on reunion tour '05-'06. Recorded second solo record Weary And Wired at end of '06 and have been touring since it's release in March.

What inspired you to start playing guitar?
An elementary school teacher who would play during recess.

What was your first electric guitar?
A Hondo II Les Paul copy.

What are your top 5 favorite records?
Today they are...
Got My Own Album To Do - Ron Wood
Are You Experienced - Jimi Hendrix
Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere - Neil Young
Planet Waves - Bob Dylan
Green Is Blues - Al Green

What was the proudest moment and/or performance of your playing career?
Sharing a stage with Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones was good, but I'd say winning an NAACP award beats that.

How did you hear about Reverend?
I'd seen the ads and thought they looked cool, but never saw one until Steve Yankee brought some down for the Drive-By Truckers when they were opening for the Black Crowes.

What Reverend guitar(s) are you using?
I have several but lately i've been partial to the Flatroc and the Daredevil HB.

What do you like about your Reverend guitar?
They get unique tones and play great. Besides they look very cool.

What amps and pedals do you currently use?
Schreyer Audio and Headstrong amps. Pedals I use depending on my mood: several different fuzzes and wahs, Analog Man, Cats Eye, H.B.E., Xotic, BMF, Love Pedals, Reese, and a friend Ryan Feves has let me be his guinea pig for all sorts of cool stuff. I also really like the Deep Blue delay by Mad Proffessor.

Do you have any unusual hobbies, skills, or pastimes you'd like to share with us?
I can ride a unicycle.

Do you have any advice for up and coming players?
Play from your heart and you will always be successful.

Please tell us about any of your current projects, tours, cds, etc. we should know about:
Ryan Bingham, Compound Records, The Fuzz Machine, The Felice Bros. and Jefferson Steelflex & The Neptune Society.
