what a way to break a really long silence. we'll be back with better-written stuff soon, we promise.

but just for the record: no, we don't want any fucking cheap badges. and when we do it's unlikely we'll click on your comment to get them.

apologies. your author has a sore head this morning (afternoon...).

You know how a while ago we were making all sorts of vague promises about releasing stuff and going out on tour again? Not so vague anymore: we will be touring the UK some time in the middle of April. We've already pencilled in Manchester and Liverpool, and will be sticking in a bunch more dates over the next few days. This is all in support of our single coming out - it's going to be Landing Light, and we're just in the process of sorting out release schedules and all that trad jazz.

We need your help this time, though.

Here's how it would work. You email us saying "Yes, I would love to help the conway story fund their island hideaway and missile programme." We then send you posters, fliers, stickers, possibly a bunch of sampler CDs, and all that kind of thing, which you then use to ensnare unsuspecting locals to our shows and into Virgin clamouring for our record.

In return, we sort you out guest list for one of our tour dates (or a London gig if you're dahn 'ere), a free copy of the single (complete with a b-side that won't be available anywhere else), and (if you're particulary ace) probably a pint or two on tour.

So get back to us if you're interested. Look forward to hearing from you.

Love,

Hi,

Firstly, cheers to everyone who came down to see us at the Barfly last night. Gigging felt like a new thing again after all that time obsessing over headphone mixes and worrying over tiny noises and to have friendly people there eased us back into it lovelily.

But now there's no going back. We're playing out again on 25th January at the Dublin Castle, and this time we will be more certain of how all our new stuff works. So we won't be concentrating quite so hard. We're also (finally) talking about tour schedules for this year - we're hoping for at least one this side of summer, and you will naturally be the first to know. We miss our transit van. We miss late-night Travelodges. We miss flirting with love and danger in rum-sodden bars late at night. And most of all, we miss you.

Ahh.

And while we're at it, the mastered album is now back in our greasy mitts, and barring a few minor things is (sonically, at least) ready. Nik's also painted two giant oils which will form the back and front cover, we saw some initial artwork ideas last night (though we had been drinking and didn't make particularly intelligent comments aside from "that's fucking ace"), and there is even a title... We're aiming to post up four new tracks in the next few days. So come back, don't be shy, and accept the sweeties that we're offering you. The actual, CD-shaped, iTunes-shaped, proper release will be later in the year but we're excited about how it's all turned out, so we want you to hear it all. Well, not all of it - that would really annoy potential labels. Just some really good bits.

More news doubtless to come when we make some. For now, though: gig on 25th, album tracks on myspace, smiles on faces.

Love,

The Conway Story

So we've just finished our first week in the studio. We won't bore you with what we have and haven't done (though feel free to email us for exhaustive lists of mic set ups and kinds of doritos eaten). Instead we'll tell you that it's going brilliantly; that all the sounds are shaping up exactly how we wanted them; that every single song has at least been started (and that one of them is almost finished); that lenin is the best drummer in london, at least; that nicholas' keyboard stand collapsed and broke his electric piano; that magic pete at livingston ensured his appearance in the album credits by fixing said piano on the kitchen table; that russ accidentally managed to nail almost all of his bass parts when he thought he was just playing along to help lenin; that nik recorded his first vocal in pretty much one take at one in the morning; that jimi managed to sleep through his entire first day in the studio owing to too much muchness the night before; and that we are about three weeks away from finishing and are excited as charlie at the gates of the chocolate factory. all is good. watch this space for news about release dates, gigs and almost certainly a fuck-off party to launch either the album or the first single off it.

We're superstitious types, us, and wouldn't want to jinx anything. But it seems as if August will see us heading into the studio and recording our first full-length album. It's going to be at least partly self-produced (though we are talking to someone about co-producing - someone who knows how to make guitars sound like god speaking, as we once said in an interview), which is kind of how we want to do it - it means we can really make the record we want to make, with all the odd noises, strange guitar sounds and David Lynch-esque buildups we can muster.

So naturally we've been spending the last few days listening to all the records we own (which is quite a lot of records), collecting all the drunken references we've made while sitting up late for snare sounds, guitar sounds, synth programming and effects before we start pre-production. It's a cool process - not only does it involve thinking about exactly what sounds we're after, but planning an album is a much more rewarding and complicated process than thinking about a single. We're discussing what the whole thing is about, what it should feel like, how we move between songs...

It's a wierd thing, but albums last for much longer than singles. It will always be our first album, so the pressure's on to get it sounding absolutely right. It's all much more ambitious than just trying to make a song sound as good as possible. But then we like that. We recommend it. It's fucking brilliant.

So we'll be keeping you posted about how it's all going, what tracks might be going on it (we have quite a few to choose from and are still writing), release dates (to be accompanied by a fuck-off HUGE party somewhere in London, to which you'll clearly be invited), and all that jazz. Thanks for listening and buying singles and generally being ace to us so far. Hopefully by September or October it's all gonna get a whole lot more interesting...

Love,

We've been writing and recording demos for most of the year (when we haven't been waking up in strange rooms in Glasgow or graffiti-ing dressing rooms in wherever the hell it was) and pretty much have our album together. We're currently talking to various labels about getting into the studio and getting it done and out, but being the impatient types we are, we thought we'd start giving the tracks out for free on here and on our website.

Some of these tracks are full studio recordings, some are exclusive preproduction demos that you won't be able to buy. Ever. Unless it's on one of those ten-CD box sets when we're all dead and you're financially secure and able to fork out a hundred and fifty quid on a whim in HMV. They'll be over there first, and then after that on here. But it's only for a week: in addition to impatience we also have musical ADD and get bored very very easily.

Keep checking back, downloading stuff, etc. And watch out for live dates - they're mostly in London for the moment but as soon as we persuade someone to let us we'll be out on the road again...

We've uploaded a video we've put together for Even When The Wind Blows made up of footage shot during our tour over winter last year. We liked it and we thought you might too. In particular we thought you might like to try and guess which band member it is that ended up in the dressing room fridge at the end (easy), which member of the band had to sit up all night editing it (harder) and which member of the extended Conway Story family appears in the video naked (almost impossible unless you've really been paying attention). Free CD to the first person to answer each question...

You may need to wait a couple of minutes for the video to buffer, by the way. Or at least we did on our shit computers. You digitally locked-in kids may have more luck. But stick with it, it took us ages.

Hi,

Turns out we're not much of a blogging band, then. Ah, well. Hopefully you love us for other reasons. Still, we've now started erratically posting our tour diary here, so you can check up on how we've been misusing our time on the road. Suffice it to say for now that the gigs are going wicked and we're loving the times.

Also, just to say thanks very much if either you've added us or we've added you recently. Word is well and truly beginning to spread now and you're all helping us, so thanks. If we added you, it's because we thought you might like us. Hopefully you do. Keep checking back and we promise we'll try and keep you entertained.

Finally, our manager would kill us if we failed to mention that our single Photogenic is released next week. You can preorder it here at hmv online, or go to itunes and download it. It's been getting some cool reviews, but cool reviews don't get us a headlining slot at Reading and a tour bus with a Jacuzzi in it. That would be selling CDs. So it's over to you guys... Whoever buys the copy which puts us ahead of the Kaiser Chiefs for the week, we'll buy you a beer and let you have a go in the jacuzzi.

If you can find us.

Thanks, and take care,

The Conway Story
