This morning i woke up (and luke) nursing a bit of a sore head. but there was no time to lay around, because today i had made plans to visit the home of THE WARRIORS!! for those of you that dont know, the warriors is and old film about lots of new york gangs who plan to run the city. And i grew up watching this film almost everyday. The warriors are from coney island and thats where i was heading. i made my way to 45th street station and met up with my father in law (whose on par with phillius fogg when it comes to a bit of site seeing) and we made our way to the end of the line, coney. when we got there our first stop was Nathans, one of americas oldest hotdog places and the one in coney is one of the first. one hot, and hair of the dog later and i was good to go. coney is like a cross between southend and margate x 10, anyone whose been to either will know what i mean. Theres not loads there but they do still have the big wheel which is the opening shot in the film and it felt very strange seeing in real life. walked about the pier a bit more, oh yeah then i shot a freak in the head, dont worry i'll explain. Shoot the human freak is our equivalent of a coconut shy except they replace the coconuts with paint ball guns and a crack head! now you dont get that at peter pans do you!! next stop harlem. the dinosaur grill is harlems "best rib place" made it to the subway and ask a lovely young lady with a beard which way to go. 1 hour later we're in harlem. jumped in a cab which drove around for about five/ten minutes, jumped out and ordered a full rack. beautiful!! now time to soundcheck. turned left out the dinosaur, walked for ONE MINUTE and got to the station where we got the cab from. (robbing bastard). the ride from harlem to brooklyn is from the top to the bottom of the map and took nearly 2 hours. blasted through the soundcheck and headed back to the hotel. after an hours sleep me and luke got back to union hall and met the rest of the boys. union hall is a quirky little place with a bowling green in the middle of the pub upstairs. downstairs we start our last gig in new york and from the off it went brilliantly the crowd was singing along and jumping around from start to finish. it was a lovely way to end the american leg of the tour. we hung about after for a couple of beers and then got taken home by the most authentic new york cabbie you'll ever meet. so in two days ive, had a pizza for breakfast, found americas best burger had a drink with Ali's cut man, been abused and robbed by a new york cabbie, had there oldest living hotdog, had there best ribs, been to the seaside, saw the big wheel, rode the whole length of the tube, met a lady with a beard, watched  a game of bowls in a pub and played 2 gigs!!! only in America baby!

Today i woke up feeling the best i have since the start of the tour, which was handy because we had a whole day of manhattan in front of us. me and the rest of the boys started out together with a train (subway) from brooklyn to manhattan. we got out and headed for greenwich village where upon asking for directions luke got a taste of the local attitude, "hey buddy im trying to work here and now your giving me all this shit" nice. we found our way there in the end and got bit of breakfast, pizza, what else!. after leaving johns pizza place i jumped in a cab on my own and went to rudys guitar shop. lots of good guitars, no left handed ones!! after that i was shown "new yorks best burger joint". In the middle of a plush hotel lobby near times square you'll find a line of people who look like they're queing for the toilet, get to the end of the queue you go through a curtain into an old cafe looking place that hasn't been done up for at least twenty years but that dont seem to be affecting the trade the burgers looked good, the best in new york? i aint tried them all.. yet. next a bit of liquid refreshment at jimmys corner. jimmys is a little dive bar on times square owned by a man who used to be Ali's cut man among others. its a blinding little place with loads of old boxing memorabilia and photos covering the walls, i love it there. after that i wandered about for a bit, getting a little lost and spent about half an hour trying to get a manhattan cabbie to take me to brooklyn. after being blown out at least five times i finally got one. hotel, quick shower and off to the mercury lounge again. met up with the rest of the boys, couple of beers then hit the stage. we started out a bit slow (its tiring stuff all this site seeing) but the crowd got behind us and got us going. by the end of the gig (gone 1 o'clock) we were really pleased with the way it went and was happy to hear the crowd chanting for one more. we gladly accepted the request and played, i could never lie, followed by the general! what more do you want for ten bucks? after the gig we stayed for a couple of drinks and was pleased to speak to so many brits, some who lived there and some who made the journey just for the gig, now if that dont inspire you, what will! after mine and lukes eventful cab journey home we got our heads down for tomorrow, brooklyn, the ghetto???

N Y C baby this is where it all happens and believe me we will see it all over the next few days! Driving in to new York is always great and I now realize that it’s not just the first time you come that feels magical there’s just something about this place the empire state building is the first thing you see coming in by car plane skateboard or any other form of transport but this time we are on road and the building just seems to be menacing looming and watching our every mile as we approach almost asking us who we are and what the fuck are we doing here how dare we knock on this door and now that we have knocked we better mean it but something tells me inside that we are all at this city’s mercy as we get closer to Manhattan its seems as though all the buildings have fixed their eyes on us and now there inviting us in welcome to the madness welcome to Manhattan!!!!!!!
We head straight to the venue as we are running a bit late for sound check we get the gear set up as fast as possible as we know from our previous visit that the bars around the corner our were we want to be we only have time for a few before the gig as its 8 o clock show time this works out well of course because after the gig we have all night to get on it! But first things first the gig is why we’re here and it goes down a treat its nice to find that we sold 200 tickets and that not a bad start after the gig we head down to the dressing room to be greeted by a super fan she tells us she has been spreading the word and had bought 10 tickets to bring friends it was so nice to see people passionate about the music they couldn’t believe it was only 10 dollars a ticket and offered to take us to a good Manhattan bar a few streets away when we get outside there are lots of people waiting to see where we are going and all jump on the rifles adventure we walk through the streets for a good while talking laughing joking learning more about the city and all its pleasures the buildings are still looming over us watching and pulling us further into the belly into the lights into the city’s hart! We arrive at the bar and drink into the night with good people from all over the world English music on the juke box times like these are rare when you feel a true sense of gratefulness and appreciation for what you do and what we do is music and it’s the music that has given us these opportunities to be free bold and happy for tonight anyway! There are invites back to peoples apartments in wall street and other locations around the city but the rifles have taken a big enough bite for now there’s still two more night here and work to be done let’s not forget!!! X Luke

Tour Burger count 12 in 3 days.

Next we are off to Boston where we have a five hour drive ahead of us, but luckily we have Outlaw Paul at the wheel. He got this name because he loves to break the rules on the road plus everyone has to have a nickname right! On the way there we stopped at Ruby Tuesdays for some more burgers to add to our count. On the menu they had an ultimate burger which was described as a life changing burger which seems pretty hard to resist really. When the waiter comes over he goes on to explain that he had one of these burgers this morning and he said to us “it’s a little slice of heaven” , which we haven’t forgot since. |I pulled an absolute faux pas because I ordered a chicken burger and not the slice of heaven. What was I thinking?
The venue here was quite small but a nice place. First on the list was to get a beer and then do sound-check. After that we went down to a bar that had lots of pool tables in it and played killer pool for dollars which Luke cleaned up on. In this place I got the worst salad ever. (faux pas count =2). The gig went really well tonight with the crowd singing along to Romeo and Julie at the top of their voices, which was great considering how far from home we were! We are gonna sound lame here but it wasn’t heavy one tonight because we were saving ourselves for N.Y. Now that’s where the real fun begins!! X

Tour Burger count so far… 7 in the first 2 days..Impressive.
