As with any effective social change movement, it is
important to address the issues from the top down (through legislation)
and the bottom up (through grassroots efforts). Today you have an
opportunity to influence the laws that shape our state in regards to
sex industry involvement! Please take a moment to read the background
below and one minute to send the (already prepared) email to each of
your state senators (email addresses listed below). These bills will be
voted on MONDAY so please send out a quick email this weekend. It only
takes a minute to send out an email and the effects of these bills
passing will be monumental.

BACKGROUND:
Last
week Senator Renee Unterman held a press conference to announce a
package of legislation addressing commercial sexual exploitation of
children in Georgia. Three bills will be introduced to:

1)
Raise the age for exotic dancers and waitstaff in strip clubs from 18
to 21 statewide (This would prevent a HIGH number of women from
entering the industry at all and help prevent child exploitation)

2)
Create an adult entertainment surcharge/$5 per patron to fund services
for children who have been prostituted (the money charged to those
people entering the clubs will be put into a victim assistance fund to
help those who have experienced the negative effects of the industry
and abuse/exploitation)

3) Expand the mandatory child
abuse reporting law to clarify that prostitution of a minor is child
abuse in all cases

CALL TO ACTION:
We need to
generate a steady stream of emails to EVERY member of the state Senate
in the next 48 hours demonstrating community support.

Template
message/senators contact information below: Please send an email to
each senator with the information below. Again, it only takes a minute
to make a lasting impact! If you've been wondering what you can do to
help end exploitation of women and teenage girls, here is a CLEAR and
EASY way for you to help! Please pass this email along to your contacts
who may be interested as well. Thank you for taking a step toward
bringing freedom to these young women and children.

Dear Senator _________________:

Did you know 200-300 children are commercially sexually exploited in Georgia every month?

Hidden in Plain View ( www.womensagenda.com/Child_Prost... ,
a 2005 report published by the Atlanta Women's Agenda found a spatial
correlation between adult strip clubs and the availability of children
for sale for sex. Why? Pimps place child trafficking victims near these
clubs so "young" girls are readily available when potential johns exit.
It is part of their business model. Legislation proposed by Senators
Jack Murphy (R-Cumming) and Renee Unterman (R-Buford) will protect the
innocence of our children. Surcharge fees will go directly into a
statutory Crime Victims Compensation Fund to hold live adult
entertainment venues accountable for the tragic secondary effects of
their profiteering.

Together we can end the prostitution of
children in our state. Thank you for your leadership on this issue.

Sincerely,

You
may also call their offices directly. Believe that your voice counts! A
flood of phone calls to senate members WILL make a difference in how
they vote! Please call and leave a message tonight (Sunday 2/1). You
may find their individual phone numbers on this website: http://www.legis.ga.gov/legis/20...
