It feels great to announce that England's perhaps finest purveyors of fuzzy guitar pop at moment, Horowitz, will be coming to Malmö very soon. They've just released a ep and a 7" is on the way. They will be joined by Leaving Mornington Crescent, right here from Malmö. They have released their first ep and just did their first ever gig, together with Harvey Williams!

We decided to go ahead and continue with the club this autumn, since we've had requests from both Horowitz and Wake the President to come over to Sweden! This is our september date - no live music, but Daniel from So Tough! So Cute! will do one of his last sets before he leaves us for London.

Yes we are back! Once again Uni will be playing for us, but this time back home in Sweden. Actually it's her first gig in Sweden, so we're proud to be host her first, before she goes to play in Stockholm and Jönköping. And what's even better is that Pierre from Don't Tell Me That! will be coming down to guest dj!
Otherwise, everything is as usual.

These songs have been up throughout July and some of August already, so it's high time to change them. Unfortunately I never found time to write more about them! I only found out that The Lady-bugs were Jackie DeShannon and The Murmaids - making an outing with a Kim Fowley-penned super hit!

The Thursday before Indietracks provided some of us with a glimpse of Northern Portrait's full glory for the first time - actually the sound was better than a few days later in the train shed. Arriving late (due to a lost tent at Heathrow) they leapt on stage and unlike Orange Juice they could REALLY play. The combined sound of the Gretsch, Rickenbacker and Fender Jaguar was almost too much for my ears (and heart)! Pocketbooks sounded as great as usual and rightfully deserved their place at the top of the bill.
So, I was meant to play records between the bands but because the soundcheck dragged on I could only play a few of the songs me and Alex had painstakingly (or gleefully, rather) prepared for the night when I was in Melbourne a few weeks ago. I chose the first song, then Alex chose one and so on:
Aztec Camera - Just Like Gold The Bank Holidays - The City Is Too Small The Faintest Ideas - Everything Is Black The Shapiros - Cry For a Shadow Sleepy Township - Singing Doll The Go-Betweens - People Say Jay Reatard - Don't Let Him Come Back The Left Banke - She May Call You Up Tonight The School - And Suddenly Sandy Fox - Freckles Glenda Collins - Thou Shalt Not Steal Stereo Total - L'amour á 3 Liechtenstein - Sophistication Tiger Trap - Puzzle Pieces Spectrals - Leave Me Be
After that I had to hand over to Andrew from Lucky Soul, so no one ever got to hear the rest:
Lio - Banana Split Twig - Dangerous Kind Fat Tulips - Nostalgia Love Parade - Sick Joke Sun Hill - Music For Modern Lovers Pencil Tin - Poignant Saturday Looks Good to Me - Alcohol World Atlas - World Ending
Since one of the 2 free drinks I got should have been for Alex, here's to her!

So we were in Hamburg on the 10th and it was the first of two gigs A Smile and a Ribbon were doing with The Lucksmiths. It was their last two dates in Europe (ever) so of course there was a big crowd. Uni & Her Ukelele and Gary Olson also played and after all the bands I played the following, alternating with Andreas for a while.
The Flatmates – Life of Crime
The Magic Whispers – I'm Beautiful Now
Dusty Springfield – What's It Gonna Be
The Clouds – Jeannie
Change of Season – Wish I Had
The Close Lobsters – Just Too Bloody Stupid

The Siddeleys – Every Day of Every Week
The Fauves – Hello Cruel World
The Country Gentlemen – Saturday Night
Chantal Goya – Tu m'as trop menti
Lung Leg – Butt Sister
Liechtenstein – All At Once
III & a 1/2 – Don’t Cry to Me Babe
Language of Flowers – She's Gone Away
Reserve – The Sun Slid Down Behind the Tower
The Mo-Dettes – Dark Park Creeping
The Guilloteens – For My Own
The Cupons – Turn Her Down
Dolly Mixture – Baby, It's You
The King of Luxembourg – Lee Remick
The Sunrays – I Live For the Sun
Cola Jet Set – El sueño de mi vida
1000 Violins – Time I Broke Down
14 Iced Bears – Miles Away
Nobody's Chyldren – I’m Going Back to NYC
John E. Paul – I Wanna Know
Stawberry Fair – Why Won't He Answer
The Chalafontes – He Loves Me
Hurrah! – Around and Around
I'm not sure I actually played each every one of these, cause I don't remember exactly. Should be just about correct though!

I ended up playing for two hours instead of 1½, because the first band (Body Corporate - who were pretty boring) took a long time to start. Then Matthew played before Je Suis Animal came on. They turned in a great set, mostly off the album but also a fantastic version of "Painted In My Face" and a most brilliant cover of Jenny Moss' "Hobbies".
Ballboy – Born In the USA God Help the Girl – Perfection As a Hipster Holly Maxwell – Don’t Say You Love Me Until You Do Very Truly Yours – Uncertain Times White Night – Birthday Fabienne Delsol – No Time For Sorrows Danielle Denin – Quand tu m’embrasses The Attack – Anymore Than I Do caUSE co-MOTION! – It’s Time! Blank Dogs – Tin Brids The Field Mice – Fabulous Friend Razorcuts – I Heard You the First Time The Pains of Being Pure At Heart – Gothenburg Handshake The Clientele – Share the Night Ginny Arnell – Dumb Head The Floyd Dakil Four – Kitty Kitty Liechtenstein – Postcard Wake the President – Miss Tierney Endless Bob Brown – Never Again Even As We Speak – Blue Suburban Skies The Fizzbombs – You Worry Me The English Muffins – Leave Or Stay Bobby Goldsboro – Too Many People Dolly Mixture – How Come You’re Such a Hit With the Boys, Jane? Shop Assistants – Seems to Be Camera Obscura – Honey In the Sun Bob Brady – I Stand Rejected The Centuries – Yeah It’s Alright The Manhattan Love Suicides – Never Far From You The Wedding Present – Go Out and Get ‘Em Boy! The Dovers – She’s Not Just Anybody Majestic – Tumbling The Lucksmiths – There Is a Boy That Never Goes Out They Go Boom!! – Somewhere In England Widdershins – Now You Know Felt – Don’t Die On My Doorstep Clothilde – Saperlipopette The Third Tuesday – Love Is Better Than Ever West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band – Transparent Day The Claim – Not So Simple Sharon Says Cola Jet Set – Subidubi The Baytovens – Waiting For You Gay Shingleton – In My Time of Sorrow The Ballroom – Love’s Fatal Way The Harbinger Complex – Sometimes I Wonder The Delmonas – Chains Betty Everett – Let It Be Me
I managed to withstand the tide of people requesting Michael Jackson (DJing on the day of his death was always going to be tough!), with some help from Matthew who explained that I was from Sweden and "didn't know" Jackson had passed away!
