On June 9 and 10 Gary McKinnon a man with Asperger Syndrome who faces extradition to the United States for allegedly hacking into US Defense computer systems will have his case judicially reviewed.  It will be the first time that his Asperger syndrome will be considered in the legal proceedings.

If the Judicial Review is not successful, Gary could be sentenced for up to 70 years in a US maximum security prison where he will be away from the support network he desperately needs.  To prevent his extradition we need you to email you MP now and make them contact the Home Secretary who has the power to intervene.

To find out more information on the case please visit http://www.autism.org.uk/mckinnon

Campaigners in England are celebrating a landmark victory in the ongoing struggle to improve the lives of people with autism.  Following the Cheryl Gillan Autism Bill 2009, which is backed by MPs from across the political spectrum, the Government has announced a raft of new measures that directly respond to the Bill.
The Cheryl Gillan Autism Bill 2009 challenges the devastating lack of understanding and provision for people with autism.
Public and parliamentary support for Cheryl Gillan MP and the Autism Bill has been overwhelming. To date almost 6000 people have contacted their MP about the Bill.

The launch of our integrated campaign, think differently about autism, has struck a chord with thousands of our supporters and generated unprecedented media coverage over the past few months. We're continuing to improve public understanding of autism and raise vital funds by using online films, newspaper advertising and direct mail.

Our new campaign film focuses on daily situations and is based on people's true accounts of living with autism. The film is set at a train station and highlights the anxiety some people on the autism spectrum may feel when faced with a change in routine and how understanding and support can make all the difference. Please watch to the end as the film will be followed by interviews of people with autism speaking of their personal experiences. Watch the film...

The Robert Naper case... The thoughts of all those at The National Autistic Society (NAS) go out to the families involved in this tragic case. The NAS cannot speculate on the details of the case, but is aware of reports that Mr Napper has Asperger syndrome (a form of autism) and a serious mental illness.

Listen to the NAS Podcast: think differently about autism... Paul is an adult with Asperger syndrome who works for the NAS Campaigns Team. He says: 'I have written, recorded with my own equipment and edited the Podcast. Here I interview Matthew Downie, Campaigns Manager to find out what I Exist is all about, why the campaign is so desperately needed and how you can get involved. Then I speak to four adults on the autism spectrum to get their reaction to the campaign. A groundbreaking Podcast by and for the autism community.'
