things have been moving at top speed, but don't they always...

Neil got more than a few holiday wishes, look at this beautiful pile-up from an elementary school in Pico Rivera, California. a mini-styling kit came from Ying Jin in Brooklyn, for our favorite on-the-go author, with the most delicate of cards: Neil gets all manner of books sent to him, on widely varying subjects, from all points on the globe. He can't read them all, nor can he promise to. The old adage springs to mind, "you can't judge a book by its cover"-- however in this case, this new book by Rhys Thomas, sure looks interesting, holiday red & made to look old & beat-up, I plan on reading it before sending it on. Hope that's ok, Boss! and not only did the folks at The Onion send over a coffee-table beauty, they attached a 50 cent coupon for Neil's use at Joe's Cold Beverages. (I tell you, I hunted for the cents symbol on my MacBook, nope, don't see one): I made many trips to my local postoffice, sending out the little shiny green envelopes of love. I forgot how much I loved to make jewelry, thanks to all of you who ordered! And the Bengals thank you too. Many of you forgot to use your five dollar off code, it is still good until December 31st, just enter: happy_kitty when you go to check out. Look at this great photo Neil took while holding the Jim Lee 100 Words print: we had a couple shipping misshaps, but they seem to mostly be reaching destinations, everything has been shipped out now, and after the 20th, I can't positively guarantee arrival for Christmas. I do try to keep the shipping charge low, while finding pretty packing material to perk up my postal carriers...Let me know how your experience goes. There is a review section, which I have noticed Neil reads with interest from time to time. I post all reviews, good and bad, because he does like to know how things are going.

We got a spectacular letter yesterday from one Rick Woolford, and our Fabulous Lorraine blogs it in her hilarious styleHERE speaking of FabLo, I can reveal her holiday gift (not any sort of dustbin or calculator!!) to be tickets for her and Maddy to see the ever-surprising Lady Gaga. They have to travel for the show, but I feel they will have some sort of tea-fueled adventure in January.... a G-rated Thelma & Louise adventure without the the car scene, ok, maybe scrap that analogy...

At any rate, I went to Vegas to visit Drew, who is working on Gaga's tour. I am doing some of the dates, working the VIP fan club ticketing, which is an event onto itself. Her fans, or "monsters" are amazingly creative, look at this necklace: her show does not disappoint: here is a picture of a very-tired looking boyfriend, the crew is working triple-time to keep up with the daily changes: Miss AFP did a fantastic little ukelele song about herself, Gaga & Madonna, in response to what sounds like many conversations with Neil, but it seems to have been removed, hmmmm I wonder why? I have to wind this up, but I must say, I went to the Cher show at the Colosseum in Caesar's Palace, she dropped my jaw, it was one of the best shows, and I have seen many shows. My friend Steve runs her lighting deck, and Cher, in her unmistakeable style told him, he could light a toilet and make it look glamorous. He got me a great seat, thank you Steve! no cameras allowed, and I am glad, it meant I gave her my full attention, which she deserved. last thing I will say, Vegas is a funny place, not my favorite, but it grows on a girl. I rarely gamble, but I saw this Alien slotmachine at the airport as I was flying home, I bet my one dollar and won 8.98. The payout lady said, who wants pennies, and gave me the full nine dollars...I believe 2010 will be one lucky year!

The Jim Lee/Neil prints are on their way to you! My apologies for the miscalculation on timing, my printer was closed for a long stretch over Thanksgiving and that threw my shipping schedule off.

To thank you, I posted a $5.00 off coupon code (just enter: happy_kitty) that is good until Dec. 31, 2009. I appreciate your support and patience, you lovely people.

The prints turned out beautifully, printed on 100% recycled paper, I thought the 100 Words death theme would be best on something recycled. The little flecks and fibers turn up in unexpected spots. Jim's pencil strokes are simply stunning. I am also so pleased with Todd Klein's lettering, now that I can see it at appropriate size.

my post office loves me, but the other customers, maybe not so much... I shipped all over the world today. (Marjorie, that's yours with the orange dot!) Some of you know that I am also a jewelry maker... have made jewelry for princesses (Tori Amos) and for queens (Madonna). My glittery beaded gemstone jewelry put me through college, in fact. Now I shall bring a few pieces here to Neverwear. Aventurine, the stone of contentment and clarity...these delicate earrings are sure to calm the nerves and soothe any beast... for those who need motivation!!! this beautiful oake green, jade-like stone will get you right off your couch and having you dancing through your days. Tibetans used to polish this translucent gemstone into eyeglasses. I bought these glass leaves while I was making the Tori Amos jewelry on the Beekeeper tour, they were carved in Czech Republic. The crystals are Swarvoski from Austria. The earwires are hypo-allergenic gold-filled. $22.95 includes a glossy black jewelry box and free shipping to anywhere in the US. contact me about overseas shipping. neverwear@gaiman.net click on photo to see details: There are legends that tell of Leopards and stories behind this spotted chalcedony.... They say to carry this stone is to walk with the perception and awareness of the Leopard. They say if the spirit of the Leopard walks with you, you will travel safely. I don't know who they are. I only know they tell these tales. When you need to see clearly, keep the Leopard close to your skin. This gemstone looks like a tiny bit of Leopard. Strung on super-strong tigertail cord with gold-fill beads, Japanese seed beads and the finest cut Swarovski crystals, I guarantee them for life... 50% of the profits from this design will go to Great Lakes Bengal Rescue. Bengal Cats descend from the Asian Leopard Cat and it seems fitting that the Leopardskin Agate will help these cats to find their way to new homes. My heartfelt gratitude to the FabulousLorraine for her service to these amazing majestic cats. $18.95 includes free shipping in the US, and you can contact me on a good price for any overseas shipping....neverwear@gaiman.net click on photo for a better view, these jewels are shipped in a glossy black box. malachite choker (to banish nightmares & induce calm sleep): pyrite bracelet (the money drawing stone): tigerseye is the stone of friendship: glittery jewelry HERE (ideal time to use your five dollar off coupon!)

November...it is the time of year when the veil between the worlds seems the thinnest, and departed souls can navigate their journey onward with the most ease. In China, November marks a celebration for the spirits of the dead, where paper money and offerings are burnt to express the happiness of the living that the dead have gone to a better place. Neil Gaiman’s poem “100 Words” has long been one of my favorite reflections on the inevitable passing through the veils... A hundred words to talk of death? At once too much and not enough. My plans beyond that final breath are currently a little rough. The dying thing comes on so slow: reluctance to get out of bed is magnified each day and so transmuted into dead. I dream of dying all alone, nobody there to watch me pass nothing remains for me to own, no breath remains to fog the glass. And when I do put down my pen my memories will fly like birds. When I am done, when I am dead, and finished with my hundred words. Earlier this year, the CBLDF and I approached one of my personal art heroes Jim Lee about illustrating Neil’s poem. Jim's attention to detail is riveting, from the tiny etched bottles on the shelves to the faint hint of a skull hiding under a beautiful face. We now share it with you- (click on image to see it bigger) Five dollars from each print will benefit the CBLDF, our steadfast friends in the east who are there in the light and in the darkness, fighting for our civil rights. Featuring ever-precise lettering by Todd Klein, who brought Neil’s words so vividly to life in Sandman. I have followed Jim Lee's career since the early 1990's, his Xmen characters breathed life for me like never before. I finally met him at a CBLDF panel at WonderCon in January, here is a little clip of him doing a fantastic job drawing the mighty Wolverine. The bidding was fast and furious on this drawing, and he is always raising money and awareness for the Fund. We thank you, Jim! This piece will measure 10” x 28” printed in soy ink on heavy 100% recycled archival stock, with an inch of white border around the art for breathing room. There will be a limited print run of 750. It will ship out within 10 days from original order. For the first 24 hours that it is posted, I will make the print $35 and then it will go back up to the price of $45. order it HERE!

it’s 3 am and I am sitting in the O’Hare airport, my rental car guy told me to be here two hours before my flight—and I am, but they won’t let me in until 3:45 so...I sit and I write. Here in Chicago to see my family and to try to be a comfort to them as we all try to come to terms with the loss of Julia. When I bought the ticket, she was still alive, my plan was to come and just be with her. I talked to her ghost in the homes of her parents and her husband. I stayed with my aunt & uncle and poured over old photos and memories as we laughed and we cried. When her husband asked if I wanted anything of hers, I said no. Then he suggested I take her ipod, and I thought, what a gift. Loaded to the gills with every kind of music imaginable, it will be a most treasured last journey through the mind and ears of my cousin. I can’t wait to just put it on shuffle... My beautiful niece was hosting a charity for rock event that fell in the time I was visiting, and I was impressed with the turnout and her tenacity. I willpass her the roadie crown...One of the bands A Kidnap in Color was a real stand-out. It was so good to spend time with all my cousins. The Chicago book launch for the new book which I have a story inCASSETTE FROM MY EX also fell within the time frame of my visit so I was happy to be witness to the event. In an industrial part of almost- downtown Chicago, the Hideout is now officially one of my favorite places.

All lit up like Christmas in July, it sits on the edge of a big warehouse lot. Marked only by a big Old Style sign, it brought to mind my dear old roommate Geo. Since it took me an entire three passes to park my boat-sized rental (I am used to driving baby little Ghosty) I didn’t pause long enough to get a photo of the outside. Jason Bitner, mastermind of the book, greeted me in the crowd, a confident master of the ceremony, decked in plaid. He kicked off the event with a radio show he had taped on Chicago Public Radio, which featured a discussion of the art of making a mixtape. An important question came up, whether this art is lost forever in light of electronic Genius mixes or will it experience a revival? Obviously, it has evolved. “nothing says longing better than a mixtape...” he got the idea for the book when he came across a suitcase full of cassettes that he had hung on to, with no ready means to play them. I still have a good size collection of tapes too, like him, i felt they were perfect compact “memory holders”, However, I retained my cassette player. There are tapes of my father telling me stories of his life in Greece, and mixes that I made in the old days, mixes for new love or heartache or to mark a certain time, like a tattoo. Cyn was the president of perfectly blended mixes, while I was famous for cutting off midsong, Nancye would go ballastic over my abrupt DJ style... each tape still resounds with a time from my life. “when a tape breaks, it’s a tragedy” says Jason, and he was right. Remember that crushed feeling while attempting to spool the wounded crinkly magnetic strip with a sharpened pencil back on the reel, only to have it stutter and woo on playback. (I also recall the pure magic of burning my first CD, a real landmark!) Jason called a panel of “experts” up to the stage, and they were hilarious in their memories of the do’s and don’t of mixtaping. The cleverest response of the evening was one panelist saying he would woo a girl by going to the thrift shop and buying up to fifteen “cass-singles” and taping over each one with Velvet Underground’s “I heard her call my name” and then paying a pizza man to deliver them to her house. Whether this was based in fact, i can’t be sure, but sure it stirred my heart. The recollection of waiting for a certain song on the radio to tape it, fingers paused over the record & play buttons, Jason likened it to our generations “walking four miles uphill barefoot in the snow”-- “We actually had to reach out our arms and wait...” (you kids today with your iTunes) When my tape cover was shown, the lady panelist mentioned that they had a section in her record store of spooky music, and that my tape looked like it would be full of this spooky music...Jason asked me what was the first song on the tape. I admitted to the packed house that I didn’t recall, but that he could check in the book...he did...”I put a spell on you” by Screaming Jay Hawkins. The night ended with a clever story told in post-it notes by Arthur Jones, the lost innocence of a cassette-expectation falling short. if you want to get the book, which features 60 tales of the tape by Claudia "Magnetic Fields" Gonson, Rick Moody, me and 57 others-- go HERE I am back home now, Neil's birthday was this week, and he got some presents in the mail, warm presents. these toasty mittens were made by Kate from Maryland, she says they are "for cold mornings in the gazebo.." and she offers to make miss AFP her own pair if she wishes: this came for Neil in an orange Doc Martens boots box, and while I didn't measure it, Ally from Montana claims this handknit Dr. Who-esque scarf is 20 feet long. It is beautiful in so many colors: Nat from Minnesota sends @neilhimself a beautiful bottle of honey mead: that's about it from the treehouse, tonight we are going to revisit the stomping grounds of my youth, the Rainbow on Sunset strip-- Jozie is leaving this weekend, and we are going to have an evening of it. Drew is working on the Lady Gaga rehearsals so I think it will be girls night. Those reports will be up on the furrytiger blog...

thanks to everyone who sent such beautiful wishes on out to my cousin. I am in Chicago today, so I thought I would try to quick-out a blog seeing as how how I woke up in November, after such a busy and for the most part, amazing October. I was out with Neil and Quiche in the beginning of October, visiting bees, dogs and all manner of people. Quiche took me to a stellar Halloween store, and she conveniently "forgot" her wallet...haha! (of course she paid me back, silly) She always takes me to the best hidden-away little spots, sort of like my sister does, but in a mid-western style. We went antiquing and we came home and made dinners, and all the while, Boss wrote and wrote. He came up with one of my favorite new stories, when will that be available for public viewing...? wolfman and his dog. before our walk... during our walk... and after... it's hard to out-shine this Cabal, but miss Maddy managed just fine. Quiche before she sang her heart out to the good people of Stillwater: it snowed on Quiche's orders, just for my birthday present: but Drew still came to get me in LA with the top down: on the way to take Neil to his plane to China, we stopped at MPR, Minneapolis Public Radio and he read like a king over the airwaves, he really was royal. Did anyone hear it? Even the man at the controls, who seemed unflappable, was impressed. Every year, Neil gets a cool ballot from the Spike TV people to vote on their annual SCREAM Awards. (This year the ballot had a lenticular 3D cover, and as many of you know, I have an obsession with all things 3D) They always invite him to come to the show, but China trumped that idea. Nicely, they offered me Neil's tickets and I went with Drew. We met the producer's assistant Xaque in a gas station parking lot down the hill from the Greek Theater, it all was very cloak and dagger... When we got there, the first people we saw were Sully and Shannon from Godsmack (the first band I ever toured with back in 2001...) they were in town recording their new album... Megan Fox, the great looking cast from True Blood, Johnny Depp, Harrison Ford, George Romero and Jackie Earle Haley were just some of the faces milling around, and we sat four rows behind Quentin Tarantino, who almost never stopped talking, bless his blabbly heart. the stage was a take off on Alice in Wonderland, complete with a wacko iron rabbit and flaming staircase. They previewed a clip of Tim Burton's take on Lewis Carroll's classic, and it looks incredible. The Icon Award, which Neil won two years ago, went to Stan the Man Lee, and they floated him out over the crowd in a Spider hovercraft. What a great sport and a big doll that man is. Spike TV hosted the after party at Hollywood Forever cemetary, and we went and had wine among the grave stones... Next it was a week of helping out Red on the Sony lot as they feverishly prepared for the big Michael Jackson film release. Drew worked on the summer rehearsals of the tour, doing lighting, so he got to see some of the dancing that now the world is witness to on THIS IS IT. Then on to the big premiere night. I saw the film two nights in a row and was ready to see it again a third time. I remember when I was on tour this summer and Drew called me and said, we don't know, but something happened to Michael, the news broke all our touring hearts, not just for the unfinished project, but for the loss of a legend. Luckily, there is a whole new generation of Jacksons coming to carry the crown. outside, it was Jackson mania: I had worked with Corbin on High School Musical, so fun to see everyone looking so good and dancing to MJ. aren't i the nicest girlfriend to take these? Drew with singer Judith: Jozie was in town so she and Sofie joined us: on Halloween, we went old fashioned trick or treating down in San Diego: Drew & his son Sean, Luke Skywalker...i still say Drew shoulda been Chewie!! so now I am ready for November, and am getting ready to put out the newest Neverwear print, a Jim Lee/Neil team up that is beautiful and heartwrenching, stay tuned! also we have the I BELIEVE in girly tees in stock, sizes L and XL, which are more like a medium and a large, but these are American Apparel styles...so...they run smallish. also I owe you a Neil Mailbox, i promise to put it up when i get back home.. I'll leave off with a preview--- a most amazing and aerodynamic mobile sent to Neil, from Miss Miriam... a close up of the intricate detail and a further-away view..

i am here in the crisp midwest, taking a break from the city streets and the hustle of tour life. Neil is leaving on a writing trip and I came out to help Lorraine send him off into the great good night. Lucky me, my trip fell in honey harvest season. One of the tasks in preparation was making bee food for their subzero winter freeze, Sharon the Bee/Birdchick headed up the taskforce: Lorraine, Neil and Sharon: we began to suit up like Ghostbusters... I noticed everyone had their sign, everyone but me. I was “bee guest”--- change this please, Quiche. In the movies, it is always red shirts and “bee guests” that die first. we trekked out to the hive corral, surrounded by a bear-thwarting electric fence. Cabal the dog stayed out of bee range, having learned a thing or three about the sharp ways of the black and golden stripes. I was there mostly as documentarian, but every once in a while, a shout for “smoker! more smoke, please!” would bring me out of my watcher role. The smoke seems to subdue the bees, they head back for the hive, thinking there is a fire. Lorraine is so beautiful in her calm: I got to use the hive tool to pry apart the heavy stacks of the hives to get at the full to overflowing gorgeous honey: Sharon examines the comb: I asked Neil to take a picture of me in my bee hazmat suit (with a few bees on me): Three out of four of the hives were fairly subdued by the cool temperatures. One hive however, the bees came out swinging, Sharon was stung once, and poor Hans was stung several times in the ankle. Neil sat through a storm of bees, angry bees, and i filmed without dropping my camera, even though the “bonking” (mad pile-driving hits into our bee suits, with all the force their tiny bodies can muster) here he impresses Lorraine with his demonstration of bee shaking: The team works together, each of them trusting the other: (notice the Batman hive, another reason to love Hans) Neil shows us a drone: poor Hansy: the walk home: i don’t want to leave...

I almost forgot how to format a blog, it has been so long. my apologies! This summer Jonas tour was particularly heavy duty. It seems like none of us ever got caught up on much more than the day-to-day living. It was a fabulous crew though, we had a massive good time together. Directly after the tour ended, Drew & I flew back east for a whirlwind week of Washington/Baltimore/Virginia... I am home now and trying to sort through the GIANT pile of Neil mail that has accumulated. Neil is back now too, so all timing is wonderful. Will also gather the photos and start up the Neverwear magnet contests again... ( follow me on Twitter.com @neverwear ) Here are just a few of the beautiful things that have turned up in the post box: this collection of stories from Serbia sent by Drasko... there is a stunning sweater with a hidden pixie and hidden kitten in the stitching, 100% wool and sent from the talented Sarah in Santa Monica...she describes the color as "black-as-the-gates-of-hell" and oh, it is a beauty. My photo does it no justice. from the imagination of John Kovalic comes the extra-cute MY LITTLE CTHULHU complete with mini-minions for him to grip... Miss Lindsay, one of Neil's most ardent fans, sends this delicate portrait of one of my favorite characters, Matthew the raven: oh, yes, and look who won yet another award...! there is much more, including an adorable kittytoy present for Lorraine, but let's not push it, the heat here in LA is unbelievable and all this typing and sitting still is making me dizzy. I promise, you beautiful readers, to never take this long of a leave of absence. will post travel photos and tour blog on the FurryTiger site soon. meanwhile, i will sign off with the grave of Edgar Allan Poe, one of our stops while in Baltimore...

it is never a dull moment, unpacking these delightful gifts, creative projects and various requests sprung from the minds of you beautiful people... this little DNA collection kit came from Reading Reptile Labs in Kansas City, they want to store all the best children's book authors genetic material to put on display... interestingly enough, it is not the first time Neil has been asked for his DNA. this next offering arrived in a sleek black packet, a sample of Quotable cards for Neil, from the kind Dallas in NYC. The cover of their catalog has a comforting quote from the Buddha:
When words are both kind and true, the can change the world.
a belated 2009 calendar from Geek Calendars arrived from Julia in Worchester, MA: from Ashley, who attended the Amanda show at LA's legendary Troubadour, (which i am still sad that Jonas tour took me away from) this adorable photo of her posing as Delirium and a copy of her film PRINT: last night, I dreamt I was night-rollerskating in a spooky park. This package is where those dream seeds came from... from Indiana's NapTown Roller Girls, courtesy of Toni, a box chockfull of treats, no tricks. The calendars feature foxy derby girls with names like Smackie Onassis (i had to take it away from Drew...twice): Toni also put in some glittery cat toys for all the Gaiman kitties and this fetching knit Cyclops creature: I think I will send the whole team a box of Neverwear tees for them to cut up and model for the site. Thoughtful and goodlookin' derby queens! miss Kim from NY sent the FabulousLorraine some clever handknit cat toys for the Bengal party of 4. However, before I could put them away, young Selina Kyle helped to unwrap them, if you look carefully you can see her needle sharp teeth marks on the packaging. I have them in the freezer now, as that is the only place she hasn't yet figured out how to infiltrate. (correction, the two small adorable kitty voodoo dolls were made by KRAFTY with all apologies from Kylie who mixed them all up like the tornado blender that she is) speaking of the kitten, I have been making more jewelry and she was really trying to be helpful: there will be more...

Kitty here, with a report from the Neverwear.net frontlines.
My patient Boss has been pulling at my shirtsleeves for almost 2 years now,
telling me to please improve the website...
Olga Nunes and DanGuy Fowlkes spent the first half of this year shining up this gem of a site.
I believe the end result is both beautiful & easily navigated. I am grateful to them all.

"I will never forget that moment, or forget the expression on Stella's face as she watched Vic hurrying away from her.  Even in death I shall remember that. Her clothes were in disarray, and there was makeup smudged across her face, and her eyes-
