After a crazy day at work and running about the rest of the afternoon it was time to shoot off down the West Coast. On arrival I find the Mirrorkicks have arrived and set up which is always a good thing as in the past we've been left pannicking where some of the headlining acts are!

The sound check went down well and Andy the sound engineer was in awe of the band. Maybe he was just after free drinks off the band.

Soon Luke from CTCC turned up and shortly after the rest of the band turned up along with Tortilla Army.

Inbetween the bands sound checking there was this rather drunk Scottish woman in the bar who was kind of scary. Luckily hey eyes were set on our young apprentice Harry. She was actually old enough to be his granny!

Slowly people started drifting in and it was time for the gig to kick off!

I got to meet one of the people off Mr Gig CDUK and also got given some cake which my partner had to scoff as I'm vegan. It was so tempting to eat it as I was bloody hungry at that point so I made do with another pint of cider. At least I got to eat some ice cubes!

Opening the night were young band Challenge The Chess Club and this were last gig as a four piece. It didn't really go their way and they even admitted it was far from being one of their best gigs. However as I pointed out to them sometimes it's just about taking part and having a laugh. No harm done though as their local fan base enjoyed what they heard.

With the bands swapping over I ended up chatting to some of the folks at the gig. It's always a laugh though at times the drinks were poured down my throat a little too easy - Oh yes!

Next band on were Tortilla Army who did the business as per usual. Great band and really deliver the goods. Tortilla Army delivered some great original and covers. The venue emptied a little as the youngsters didn't know them but through the set people came in and the chat amongst the them after the gig were all positive about Tortilla Army. Their 'Firestarter' cover was a winner for these guys. One girl was so pissed off she didn't stop to see all their set. A new audience won over? Yes for sure!

Final band of the night were the MirrorKicks an up and coming Indie-Rock band who were in town to promote their latest single 'Anything'. These guys really impressed at the sound check and really upped their game when it came to the show. Their fourty minute set delivered some killer songs and while they started off playing to an emptyish venue it soon filled up more when the people upstairs in the bar got to hear them! Once they left the stage the people who saw them were buzzing about them. The youngsters want them back and were offering to set up street teams and promised to get more people in to see them.

They will be back!

A decent night out with some new faces and a good old faces too. Always great to see everyone and have a chat and beer with some of you.

Thanks to everyone who came out. Hopefully see you all next week.

LET’S GO TO WAR

“LIFE WE LIVE” RELEASED JANUARY 25TH 2010

VIA LAST GANG RECORDS

www.myspace.com/letsgotowarmusic

In the not too distant past…Peter-John got evicted from his Toronto apartment and landed on the couch of producer DJ Cirkut. Armed with his guitar, backpack and skateboard, it was here that the first chapter of Let’s Go To War was written. After weeks of saying, "we should hook up and work on some tracks", they finally collaborated and wrote a handful of songs in a matter of days, which resulted in a creative experience sweeter than a mouthful of cotton candy. “Life We Live” is the hedonistic club anthem that will bring any party to a climax.

The combination of the band’s influences and shared musical sensibilities gave birth to a unique sound not easy to classify by even the most outspoken of music bloggers. Citing Bob Dylan, Outkast, Daft Punk, Alan Parsons Project, Herbie Hancock and Jay-Z as inspiration, the band was galvanized into refusing to be pigeonholed. It is this unwillingness to compromise their music or pacify the pimps of the genre biz that finally evoked the freedom cry, “Let’s Go To War”. It is reactionary. It is your revolution invitation delivered to your door courtesy of groove freedom fighters, LGTW, who are only willing to describe their music as “digital confusion”.

LGTW are a virtual Jackson Pollock of multiculturalism. Their backgrounds are a colorful canvas of Jamaican, Irish and Welsh. To them, as in life, the boundaries that delineate genre and sound have become blurred and obscured. Hip-Hop, Electro, Reggae and Folk have all been blended into a potent hybrid that takes a little essence from each style of music and crosses and cultivates it into something new and exotic. It is on this fertile field that LGTW breathes easily and runs freely outside the confines of characterization and comparison.

With production for Britney Spears and remixes for The Music, The Whip and The Carps (to name a few) already under their belt, Let's Go To War are set to release their debut album in March 2010 and are poised to take over minds and bodies quicker than L. Ron Hubbard (without firing a shot!). Let’s Go To War. Call it Electro, call it Punk, call it Hip Hop, call it Crunk. It don’t matter, because it ain’t callin’ you in the morning! So push your indie bangs out from your face, tie up dem dreads and DANCE!

Tracklisting:

Life We Live
Burn Down The Disco
The Whole City’s Got A Cold

About Last Gang: LGTW marks the first European self release of a label that has become synonymous with the most ground breaking electronic influenced North American artists who made it big in the UK: Metric, Death From Above 1979, MSTKRFT and Crystal Castles had all been licensed out to European labels, now LAST GANG are taking things into their own hands!

AFTER THE ORDEAL - The End Never Comes: After The Ordeal are if for a great future if this three track single is anything to by. The catchy guitar hooks and driving bass lines are pure bliss and with it will see people talking about this young band for a long time. 'The End Never Comes' is the strongest track on this release but 'Into The Dark' and 'I Believe In You' aren't too far behind. When you hear these three songs you'll hear a band that really believe in what they do and I for one can't wait to hear more. Brilliant! 9/10

AVOSETTA - Of Our Lives EP: I really enjoyed this four track offering from catchy Post-HC band Avosetta who have released something that really deserves a listen. The four tracks on this EP really have been played a lot on my player for the simple reason their tunes rock! Influenced by bands such as Alexisonfire, Finch and Thrice they've also added their own ideas to create something very likeable. OK not the most original band in the world though in fairness there's plenty of scope to develop and if they keep on the same route there'll be something very cool to hear in the future. What really makes this release are guitars from Jack and Ben complimented with some cool bass lines from Jamie. All the tracks are worthy of a listen though the two that stood out for me were the title track 'Of Our Lives' and 'Snakecharm The Dead Whale'. Avosetta are a band that certainly should be given a listen so make your day and theirs by checking them out! 8/10

BEAT THE RED LIGHT - S/T EP: TNS Records has been putting out some decent releases for a while now and this release is no exception. BTRL maybe a new band to me but after listening to this five track EP I want to hear more. TNS said this band mixed it up a little with influences ranging from the Slackers to Slayer and they'd be spot on. This seven-piece band has lots of instruments going off throughout this release including a saxophone, trombone and trumpet thrown in with the usual guitars, bass and drums. Their take on the ska-punk sound is refreshing and when you hear tracks such as 'The Scene Is Under Attack By Wannabies' and 'White Collar Pride' I'm sure you'll agree. 8/10

BLEECH - The Worthing Song: I saw this trio play in Margate and from the opening moments of the first song I knew I'd enjoy Bleech. This two track single is a very cool release indeed. I wished this had been an EP as two tracks just isn't enough which shows just how addictive this band are. The great guitar chords and bass lines from Jennifer and Katherine O'Neil are such a pleasure to hear. Not forgetting Matt Bick who plays some mean drums. Jennifer’s voice is also a pleasure to hear. This lady can sure sing. 'The Worthing Song' is such a damned good choice for the title track though 'Mondays' isn't far behind. I really can't wait to hear an album from this trio as they surely one of the best bands that the UK has to offer at the moment. 9/10

DAKOTA - Heart And Soul: Dakota are a British based pop pand destined for sucess. This ten track album shows how imaginative these guys are when it comes to their music. What you hear throughout 'Heart And Soul' are some far from predictable pop tunes. The downside for me were the standard pop lyrics where emotions and relationship splits are dealt with! Not really my thing but if you look past that Dakota are a decent enough band. Favourite tracks for me were 'Wild Child', 'Even If You Go Away' and the title track 'Heart And Soul'. If you like a decent pop tune and looking for something new then Dakota are certainly worthy of a listen! 8/10

DJEVARA - The Rising Tide (Part 1) Corsa Al Ribasso: Djevara is one of the best progressive HC bands in the UK. They aren't frightened to do something with their music either which makes these guys stand out from the crowd. The latest album is to be released in two parts and this six track offering is the first part. There's some great guitar parts and well as some killer bass lines. If you think early Fugazi / DC bands with a modern feel and you'll be pretty damned close to what this band are all about. Just listen to tracks such as 'Jesus vs Mohammed (Ali)', 'Once Morwe With Feeling' and 'View From A Glass House' then you'll realise what a great play this album is. Not only do you get a decent album you also get a decent production and packaging is pretty spot on too! Not a bad releae from a DIY band. Just wish more bands put this much effort into their tunes. 8.5/10

EXTREME O.D. - This Is The End EP: Hmmm! I really don't know about this EP as Extreme O.D. offer nothing new. In fact you'll probably find about five bands in every UK town who sound exactly the same! Youngsters of today just don't seem to grasp that if you want to move onto the next level then you have to offer something a little different to the norm. Many European metal bands experiment but in the UK the scene has stayed static. Anyway what is on offer on this EP are three tracks that you'll either love or hate. Myself I was completely bored into the fist few seconds of this release which was a shame as this band so sound as if they have potential to do so much better. 5/10

ISOLATED ATOMS - Tell Me What I Want: If you're into bands like Joy Division and New Order you might want to check out Black Country outfit Isolated Atoms. This two track single is really heavily influenced by Joy Vision and New Order but with a more modern and commercial feel. Both numbers are very catchy and no doubt they'll be winning audiences up and down the country with this release as it's pretty damned good. There's some great guitar work throughout but what really stands out for me are the synth parts which fit so well on both songs. The title track 'Tell Me What I Want' is the slightly stronger number though 'Here We Go' could have easily been a contender for the title track. Certainly a band worth checking out!. 8/10

LA PERLA - Promo: I came across La Perla on My Space and weanted to hear more so five tracks were sent over to me. While most electronica / pop music is a bit of a drain to listen to at times I liked what this NYC based artists has to offer. I guess it's down to the fact La Perla isn't scared to experiment and I wish more artists would go down this route so they don't sound all the same. I also like the vocals. La Perla may not have the vocal range of someone like Pink but it doesn't matter as her voice sits so well with the music and to me that's more important. I liked all of what I heard but I must say I'm quite taken with 'Kiss Me Boy Right Now' and 'Fly Away'. I now want to hear an album as this tracks have left me wanting to hear more! 8/10

LISTEN LISSE - Pow Bang: Listen Lisse is a singer / songwriter from New Zealand and has been playing live since 2004. The most recent release is sitting in my hands right now! Recorded and released in 2009 this eleven track album is a piece of art that you have to hear. OK so not everyone is into acoustic stuff but this is far from the run of the mill acoustic material you've probably heard. There's plenty of punk attitude in Listen Lisse's music and that can be heard throughout this album. What's more Listen Lisse has a voice that really suits the style of music she plays and I reckon why this release is so damned cool. Favourite tracks for me include 'Raise Me', 'Burning Dust', 'On The Road', 'Vengeance' and 'Street Lights' though no doubt you'll find your own. This comes well packaged and production is spot on too! If you're after something different to what you usually hear then Listen Lisse has got to be up there amongst the gems that are worth seeking out. 8.5/10

MIRRORKICKS - Anything: When you hear this London based band you'll understand why they're going to be come a big name in 2010. 'Anything' second single to be released by the MirrorKicks. It sees them really mix things up by fusing elements of indie and rock together to bring you one of the best alternative sounding bands you'll ever hear. The great vocals and wicked guitar lines really add to both 'Anything' and the flip track 'Think Fast'. Both tracks show a band that simply wont compromise and because of that no compromise stance the MirrorKicks deliver some killer tunes. If you've not heard the MirrorKicks before then this release is a great place to start! 9/10

PLACEBO - Bright Lights: This single is a new version of Bright lights which sits very nicely on the 'Battle For Sun' album which has sold nearly half a million copies worldwide. I just love the catchy rock tunes that Placebo put out and this single is no different. Bright Lights will almost certainly get you off your feet as it's a feel good factor song that just makes those winter blues vanish. With songs like this it's fair to say Placebo are at their very best and anyone who thinks differently is simply insane. Bright Lights is a quality song that I wont be able to live without now! 9.5/10

Placebo World

Release Date: 8th February 2010

TONY SLY - 12 Song Program: Tony Sly may not be a name familiar to you but his band No Use For A Name should. This legendary punk act has been banging out some great tunes for nearly twenty years now. Sometimes it's nice to get away from the norm and do something a little different. Tony Sly has done just that with this 12 Song Program and I'm so glad he did this release. The songs range from folk to pop and every track has it's own identity which really adds to this album's charm. Tony Sly has really fine-tuned this release and in doing has created some tracks that you're going to love. Tracks to listen out for include 'Via Munich', 'Already Won', 'Keira' and 'Toaster In The Bathtub' which were my favourite tunes on the 12 Song Program. There's also some special guests featured on this release in the form of Karina Denike (Dance Hall Crashers) and Joey Cape. Comes with a great production and the packaging is top notch too! 9/10

Fat Wreck

Release Date: 16th February 2010

VOIVOD - Tatsumaki DVD: Despite forming in the early 1980s it's taken two decades for Voivod to reach Japan and this recording is taken from a 2008 show recorded for a TV broadcast. The quality is spot on sound wise and visually which will please fans of the band as I've seen some right dodgy releases of Voivod material. There's some right killer tracks on here such as 'Voivod', 'Ravenous Medicine', 'Overreaction', 'Nuclear War' and 'Brain Scan' which sound better then ever as the band just tore through them in true metal style. If having a great show isn't enough for you wait until you see the bonus material which includes an interview with Dave Grohl about Voivod and there's also a 2009 show shot in Quebec city featured. YOu really couldn't ask for a better live DVD with so much quality footage featured on it. Dave Grohl said these words about Voivod 'This is the most bad ass band I ever heard in my life' and that I would totally agree with. 9/10

Canterbury are a young and up and coming band in the UK. The tunes they're putting out there are very exciting and if they keep on in the right direction the future looks very bright for Orange! With a gig booked for Margate and a brilliant debut album on sale I decided to interview the band. Here's what they had to say for themselves.

Street Voice: First off can you introduce Canterbury to the world and tell us who does what in the band please?

Hello world! We are Canterbury. Luke Prebble - Vocals/..keyboards, Mike Sparks - vocals/guitar, James Pipe - Guitar, Ben Bishop - Bass, Scott Peters - Drums.

Street Voice: When did you guys form the band?

We formed this line up early 2007, but we had a fair few changes before we set on the current line up.

Street Voice: What bands initially influenced you in to wanting you to pick up your instruments?

Initially it was bands like New Found Glory, Midtown, Millencolin and Blink 182 made us want to write our own songs, but everything we hear influences us now.

Street Voice: What made you decide on the name Canterbury as you aren't from that area?

There are many answers to this question, not all of them are the truth... but one of them is that it is the City with the most Luke's, James's, Mike's, Ben's and Scott's in the UK.

Street Voice: You've had some really good gig slots over the past few months so what have been your favourite support slots so far?

We'd probably have to say supporting Billy Talent on their recent UK tour. It was such a massive opportunity and experience for us that it bew us away. We were extremely lucky to have been able to play places as legendary as Brixton Academy at our age. Very exciting.

Street Voice: You're heading out on a headline tour so is this the first one you've undertaken?

We are indeed and are very excited! We actually had our first ever run of headline dates back in November after our support slots, so the pressure of 'first ever' is not there, but we cannot wait to be back out on the road again! We suggest everyone comes to see us!

Street Voice: How many gigs are you undertaking on this tour?

It is actually currently unconfirmed how long it will last, but we are hoping a good chunk of March will be taken up by it. More dates will be announced as soon as we know for sure though!

Street Voice: You released your album 'Thank You' asa free download and a donations download so have both worked out well for you?

Both have worked brilliantly, better than we could have hoped for really. The dowload figure reached 10,000 just before christmas and is still on the up which is incredible, and the generosity people have shown on the donation front is really touching. It means a lot to us. If we had been selling the album at a regular price then we would not have dreamed of this many people having it so quickly, so if you want your music out there as a small band like us, we see no sensible alternative...Thank you so much to anyone that has downloaded it, especially if you donated.

Street Voice: Where do you get your ideas for the lyrics?

Often just one line will spark of a chain reaction of ideas and they can be then molded into a structured song that makes sense. But they can come from absolutely anywhere, whether it be something you hear somebody say, or just a deep thought, or even humming a tune and the hum comes out sounding like some words, that can start off the subject to a song. Many ways, all lots of fun

Street Voice: You've had some really good gig slots over the past few months so what have been your favourite support slots so far?

We have just been confirmed as main support for Twin Atlantic's UK tour which is very exciting, as its only a week away! But other than that, we hope to be putting a single out around the same time as the headline dates, hopefully followed by more touring and fingers crossed some festival appearences! We are hoping we can be very busy this year.

Street Voice: You're young lads in a band so what kinf of crazy shit do you get up to on the road?

Haha, we are not the most 'rock and roll' band out there on the road we can tell you that! But we have a load of fun in each others company and get to meet a ton of really cool people throughout the country. That's what it is all about really.

Street Voice: So who's for being thrown in the sea at Margate?

Scott loves to swim...Throw him in!

Street Voice: Anything you'd like to add?

Thank you so much to anyone who supports our band in any way, we love you all and keep spreading the word! See you on the 5th of March people of Margate! Cheers steve, sorry for the delay!

Thanks to Luke Prebble and Canterbury for doing the interview. If you like in Kent (UK) then you should pop along to the West Coast in Margate on Friday 5th March 2010 to see what a great band Canterbury are. If you are outside the Kent area look up the band's My Space page to see if they're playing your town. In the meantime enjoy their debut album. However don't pass up a chance of giving Canterbury a listen. They're well good and it would be criminal to ingore them. Nuff said!

Maleficent is an alternative band from London formed in 2006 by Maleficent Martini. The music ranges from upbeat synth driven industrial to progressive metal mixed up with sleazy Rock N Roll with dual female / male vocals. Maleficent blew me away when I first heard them so an interview was in order and here's what they had to say for themselves.

Street Voice: First off can you introduce Maleficent to the world please?

Sickx: Maleficent is an electro/rock/industrial band from London UK, formed by Maleficent Martini (vox), Mortimer Cain (Vox), Vincent M. Sickx (everything else) and Gyuri Blaskovics (live drums).

Street Voice: You formed in 2006 so what inspired you all to play the music that you play?

Sickx: We wanted to be able to play in different environments, like the fetish clubs or rock gigs or the arty/..experimental shows, so we put all our influences into trying to be diverse, incorporating ballet and fetish stuff to the shows.

Miss Martini: My dream was always to Mix Ballet with alternative music and… when we formed Maleficent I felt able to do this straight away, and be able to express myself as I wanted.

Street Voice: Were you all hanging about in the same circles or did you meet through contacts?

Sickx: we met in rehab.

Miss Martini: Hahahah… I can’t remember where we all met… It must have been in our past lives.

Street Voice: You incorporate ballet and festish perfomances in your live set so do you need lots of space on stage to do this?

Sickx: Not necessarily, of course the more space the better but some stuff can be performed on small stages as well.

Miss Martini: I def enjoy more playing on big Stages, I can’t dance on points on a small stage, even if I’ve done it sometime, but we try to adjust our performance to suit wherever we play.

Street Voice: How do some venues cope with the fetish side of things when you play?

Sickx: Very well, mainly because the shows are 18s+, which is a shame because we have a lot of teenage fans who can’t see the performances.

Miss Martini: We are not only about the Fetish, Its about Art and body expression and that’s why we don’t only attract an alternative crowed.

Street Voice: Maleficent you're trained in ballet so do you do many mainstream performances?

Miss Martini: Yes I’ve trained at the “Teatro Dell’Opera di Roma” in Rome and at “The Royal Ballet” in London. I still do a few mainstream shows, in Art Galleries and small theatres, or for fashion show events, but, I haven’t danced in a big theatre like the Royal Opera House in a while now.

<Street Voice: You've recently released the Demize EP so how has this gone down with your fans and the music press?

Sickx: Very well, which is a surprise because we totally produced it ourselves and we don’t think it sounds as good as it should be, but we are working with a different producer now, and the new record will be much better.

Miss Martini: Yes, I’m quite exited about producing the new album

Street Voice: Where do you get the ideas for your lyrics?

Miss Martini: From my emotion, a concept, what’s happening in the world right now, What I like and what I hate.

Mortimer Cain: Usually I start by trying to write it in a form of poetry or story that is inspired by the emotions im feeling at the moment, and then adjust it to suit the music and melody better but try and keep the main concept intact.

Street Voice: How come you covered Nick Cave's 'Where The Wild Roses Grow'?

Sickx: Like Edward Norton in Fight Club, to destroy something beautiful.

Street Voice: So what plans do you have for 2010?

Sickx: As I said we are producing a new record, I don’t know at the moment when it will be released or if it will be an EP or an LP or just singles. We are also booking a lot of gigs, we’ll be supporting this French band called Kells on some dates of their UK tour, we are trying to go to Europe in spring/summer and maybe there will be something big at the end of the year, but I can’t talk about it.

Miss Martini: New Songs, More Gigs, More Exposure.

Mortimer Cain: read more books play more gigs write more songs and maybe get a new haircut and Botox my arse.

Street Voice: What kind of things do you all get up to outside the band?

Sickx: I am a lot into human biology and anatomy at the moment, the human body fascinates me, specially the way it reacts when push drugs into it. I am also into kart racing and skydiving at the moment, anything dangerous basically.

Miss Martini: I love dancing, and I love learning new skills. I’m working on learning some acrobatic skills this year, and working on my acting and singing. I think that to be a true artist, you should never stop learning new techniques. Then… apart from this, I love spending time with my closest friends.

Mortimer cain: No comment.

Street Voice: Anything you'd like to add?

Sickx: Internet is watching you, stay off it, do something creative instead.

Thanks to Maleficent for doing the interview. Their recent album 'Demize' is certainly worthy of tracking down. If you're looking for something original then this is a band that you should be taking a serious interest in.

Athena Reich is a Canadian but American based singer/songwriter, actress, TV Host/Personality and Songwriting Teacher. Athena is also Lesbian and pulls no punches about her sexuality. After hearing Athena's latest album 'Little Girl Dreams' I just had to feature her in the pages of Street Voice. Here's what Athena had to say for herself.

Street Voice: Hi Athena can you tell our readers a little about yourself please?

I'm originally from Toronto. My mom started giving me piano lessons when I was 4. I started singing when I was 8. When I was 9 years old, my father took me to see the musical CATS. I was on the edge of my seats. I knew I had found my life calling and told my Dad right then and there that I wanted to be a performer and haven't budged since. I got an agent when I was 12 and started doing commercials. Taught myself guitar at age 16 and started busking in the streets of Toronto. Made my first album at age 20. Went to Concordia University in Montreal for music. Moved to NYC after graduating. I now live in the Upper West Side in Manhattan with my 2 kitty cats, Bunny & Bear.

Street Voice: You get up to plenty of stuff like TV hosting, being an actress and of course a musician so where do you find time for it all?

I have a lot of energy and I'm also really good at being efficient. I'm a fast typer, fast thinker and really good at saying 'no' to things that are time suckers. I'm very organized and I also schedule in 'down time' so I don't burn out. In my 'down time' i sit in my PJ's, play with my kitties and watch shows like Grey's Anatomy, Modern Family, and Law & Order SVU.

Street Voice: As you know I have your latest album in my possession which I think is brilliant so has the feedback been as positive as mine was?

Thank you. :) And yes. I have gotten an amazing amount of positive feedback. Stephen Schwartz (who wrote Wicked) actually called me up on the phone to tell me how much he loves my CD!

Street Voice: Are there any changes that you would have made to the album in hindsight?

I would have added a little vocal riff at the very end of Trouble. Otherwise, I'm very happy with it.

Street Voice: Where did you get the inspiration for your lyrics?

From dreams.. from feelings that nag and confuse me.. sometimes lyrics to a whole song will just appear to me as I'm falling asleep and I'll quickly write them down before dozing off.

Street Voice: What is your favourite song from Little Girl Dreams?

I'm so happy with Love is Love because it's such a happy pop song that everyone responds to. It won Best Outstanding Pop Song of the Year for 2009 at the Outmusic Awards and the video charted at #1 on MTV's LOGO's Click List. Everytime I perform that song, people come up to me afterwards to tell me how much they love it. I get daily emails from people telling me how much they love that song. It's a great feeling to know you've written a song that so many people respond to.

Street Voice: So what do you prefer TV work or playing Live?

I absolutely love both. TV work is great cause you get up really early in the morning and it's so intense and time pressured and the acting has to be intimate and real. Performing live is amazing because of the energy from the audience. Choosing one of the other would be like trying to decide between my right or left leg. I need both of them to walk.

Street Voice: I was reading somewhwere on line that you recently won an award for the 'Love Is Love' song so can you tell our readers about that please?

Love is Love won Best Outstanding Pop Song of 2009 at the Outmusic Awards and the awards show will be broadcast on MTV's LOGO. My album, Little Girl Dreams, actually received 5 Outmusic Award nominations in the categories of Best Pop Song, Best Rock, Outstanding Single, Best Songwriter and Best Album of the Year. I now have a beautiful trophy that makes me feel so happy to have accomplished something tangible.

Street Voice: You're openly Lesbian so does cause any grief in God Fearing America?

LOL. Great question. Yes, when I tour to God Fearing Regions of America, sometimes I have been heckled for having short spikey hair, or singing about loving a woman or just plain stared out oddly. It can be a terrible feeling. That's why I mostly love to play NY, but I have also had amazing experiences in the most surprising of places; a sold out show in a small college town in Michigan, an amazing intimate audience at an LGBT center in Mississippi, and the warmest reception ever in Newfoundland, Canada.

Street Voice: Homophobia is still rife in this planet? Do you see things getting any better?

Things are definitely getting better. I am a dual citizen with Canada & the U.S. and it is now legal on the national level to have a same sex marriage in Canada. I know Americans can easily feel discouraged, but I know that in at least 10 years, gay marriage will be legal in the U.S. The younger generations are all fine with it. Even the hard core Christians, who are young, are admitting to being bisexual. It may sound terrible to say, but once the older generations fade a bit, you will see a difference on the political front when it comes to voting on gay rights. All the kids are growing up with Ellen, Will & Grace, Glee, Modern Family. It's hard to find a TV show that doesn't have a gay character now. That says a lot about what's really happening in this country.

Street Voice: Did I read on one of your blogs that you are going through Chemo?

Oh god no. That was my last cat, Charlie. He passed away this Christmas from cancer. I wrote a song about him. It's called "My Cat is Magical" and it's on Little Girl Dreams.

Street Voice: You're a very beautiful lady so you must get chatted up a lot. Any funny stories regards being chatted up?

"Chatted up"? LOL Is that British slang for being hit on? :) Yes, I get 'chatted up' a lot. Mostly by men. Sometimes I wish I was straight only because there are so many straight men constantly hitting on me. All the lesbians are either already together, still struggling with coming out of the closet, wasted, or hiding.. somewhere... in this city. And I'm determined to find those gems. Yes, I'm single, and yes, I'm on the hunt. :)

But in regards to a story, I guess the funniest is that when I am on the road, I get offers from women and men to sleep with me every single night. It's the most interesting when a couple invites me home with them. I usually decline but every now and then I give in to my humanity and have a little fun.

Damn! At times I wish I was a Lesbian living in the USA with Athena on tour :-)

Street Voice: With being so busy do you get any spare time and if you do what do you like to do to chill out?

I love running in Central Park, ice skating, going to movings, and going for brunch with friends. And, like I said earlier, I absolutely love certain TV shows, like Grey's Anatomy, Brothers & Sisters, The Middle, The Good Wife etc.

Street Voice: A friend's band have been asked to play a nudist camp but they'd have to play naked? Have you ever had any bizzare invites like that?

LOL. That's hilarious. God.. I can't think of a bizarre thing at all like that. Not yet at least.

Street Voice: 2010 is with us so what are your hopes and dreams for the year?

I would love to find the girl of my dreams this year. I would love to start a family in the next few years so I'm looking for someone mature, stable, passionate, smart, established in their career, and infinitely giving (like me :) When I'm with someone, I just love to rub their head, laugh with them and dote on them. On the career front, I am really excited because I have a great team behind me, consisting of a hard working manager (MKM), well connected publicist (SASi PR), and brilliant music publisher (Ed Razzano). I've got so many pots brewing right now... it's best I don't think about it all and just take it one task at a time.

Street Voice: Anything you'd like to add?

Currently we are in production for my 2nd music video, The Logical Song (a cover of the song by Supertramp). We are going into rehearsals with a full cast of dancers! I am going to be dancing! I am so psyched and scared! Watch for it! Oh! And definitely facebook me. That's where you can get regular updates about how adorable my new kittie cats are.

Thanks to Athena for doing the interview and making it a very pleasurable read. This lady is one very cool person and you really do need to check out her music. You'll certainly be hearing more about Athena Reich in Street Voice pages in 2010.

VELVET STAR

YORKSHIRE TERRIERS UNLEASH BRAND

NEW RECORD ON 22nd FEBRUARY 2010!

Velvet Star releases self-titled maxi-ep and is preparing to rip-up a

storm in the new year with lengthy touring already in the pipeline.

Yorkshire Terriers “Velvet Star” spit out riffage that tips its cap to “Guns ‘n Roses” (pre ‘Chinese Democracy….that’s just not the real G’n’R!) and “The New York Dolls,” whilst merging the energy and showmanship of the great “Iggy Pop”.  It’s safe to say that this hard gigging five-piece is all about rock ‘n’ roll; they revel in filling a live room with their sleazy music. The band’s high octane shows have already earned them critical acclaim and heavy support from many national venues and fans alike.

Hailing from Goole, Yorks (aka “Sleepy Hollow”), Velvet Star was originally formed back in 2006 with the straight forward intention of playing loud music and having “nothin’ but a good time!” Fast forward eighteen months, the band raised the ante, and armed with an arsenal of killer tunes, they decided to take their infectious blend of hook-laden glam punk on the road.

They have now played over 120 shows and completed a number of successful mini tours spanning the length and breath of the country.

The Yorkshire combo is now set to hit the road extensively throughout the spring of 2010 in support of their brand new self titled ep, out in shops on 22nd February…these really are exciting times for Velvet Star........

NEW SINGLE ‘COULD THIS BE REAL’ RELEASED ON JANUARY 18TH ON RAM RECORDS

www.myspace.com/subfocus / www.twitter.com/subfocusmusic

“Anthem after anthem…” - DJ

“Make no mistake Sub Focus has the brightest of futures ahead of him…” – i-DJ

“Sub Focus is about to firmly establish himself as a major production force in electronic music.” - Knowledge

“An artist that will have a real diversity within his musical career” – DMC Update

“Sub Focus’ debut breaks new ground…” - Independent

Following the Radio 1 B-List singles ‘Time Warp’ and ‘Rock It’, Ram Records presents ‘Could This Be Real’, the latest single by Sub Focus. The single features a remix by the man himself as well as Bristol’s Purple Dubstep King, Joker and promises to propel Sub Focus even further into the ears and minds of the music world.

‘I just want to be known as someone who makes good dance music…’ said Nick Douwma aka Sub Focus to Mixmag when asked about his debut, self titled album: where drum and bass smash hits mix effortlessly with more experimental, electronica-influenced tracks, and some surprising, non drum and bass gems like this one.

Opening with an uplifting piano riff borrowed from classic house that drives the tune throughout, complimented by smooth, soulful vocals underpinned by some clean, slow 2/2 breaks, the track breaks into a filthy, infectious bass-line that you can’t help but dance to. ‘Could This Be Real’ is a genre defying hit that smashes it on the dance floor but works just as well on the airwaves.

This is officially the first Street Voice interview of 2010. Happy New year! Deadline have been doing the rounds for a long time in the UK with their own style of punk rock. Their catchy sound with cool female vocals would see this band selling records like they've never sold before if they were American. With a new album 'Bring The House Down' soon to be released on People Like You I caught up with Deadline for an interview. Liz (Vocals) kindly answers the interview.

Street Voice: Since we last spoke which I think was in 2008 there has been a line up change so who are the current members of Deadline?

Liz: We have Herve on bass, Ryan and Benoir (Doudou) on guitars, Pascal on drums and me (Liz) vocals.

Street Voice: So you've a new album coming out in 2010 so can you give our readers some information please?

Liz: Yes, I’ve been writing new songs for quite a while now. We released a few of them last year on We’re taking Over along with a live set and the rest have been maturing on our ears since then. We wanted this album to sound good so we’ve taken our time refining the songs and finding a good studio.

Street Voice: What kind of things have you written about for this release?

Liz: Mostly my life’s experiences over the last 3 years. I don’t know much else. There’s a song about the state of the country right now, What’s Going On, but it’s not too heavy. There are a few party songs and a couple of heart felt numbers, one of which brought me to tears when I’d finished recording it.

Street Voice: Is this going to be the best album yet?

Liz: I hope you think so. It definitely pisses over all our other works in terms of sound, Doudou did all the mixing, and I love it!

Street Voice: I know it's being released through People Like You in Europe but what about the USA?

Liz: Well we are open to offers. We’ve sent it to all the usual suspects over there so I hope someone likes it and wants to release it.

Street Voice: Anyway how has 2009 been for Deadline?

Liz: Very good. We booked all our own shows this year and have played some cool shows in towns we haven’t been to already. The craziest thing we did this year was Rebellion in Blackpool on the Friday then flying out to Croatia for a festival on the Saturday.

Street Voice: You're pretty much well travelled so what countries have you taken in this year?

Liz: Serbia, Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, Slovakia, England, Czech Rep I think that’s it, off the top of my head

Street Voice: What did you guys do over Christmas? was it all family stuff?

Oh yeah, me and Herve did family and Ryan too. I guess the French boys did the same. We party all year at the shows it’s nice to have a break at home.

Street Voice: New Years Eve did you all go out on the razz?

No, mojitos and videos.

Street Voice: Apart from the album release and the Cock Sparrer gig in London what else have you got planned for 2010?

Liz: We have a 3 week tour booked in April to promote the album abroad and we’ll be doing some shows in England with The Grit on the May bank holiday weekend.

Street Voice: Anything you'd like to add?

Liz: Thanks for the interview (sorry it’s late J). Check out the tour dates at
myspace...com/deadlineuk and hopefully we’ll you at a show soon.

Thanks to Liz for doing the interview. If you haven't heard Deadline before I reckon you ought to start with the new album 'Bring The House Down'. That release will blow you away for sure. Hopefully 2010 will see some American label pick this band up and give them the exposure they so rightfully deserve.

Russian Beauty Victoria Daineko is more than just a pretty face. She's a very cool lady with a great sense of humour and more importantly a great voice too. Victoria's catchy pop numbers and photo shoots as seen her profile rise so an interview was arranged. Victoria kindly answered the questions and here's what she had to say for herself.

Street Voice: First off could you tell our readers a little about yourself please?

Well my Name is Victoria and my second half is music:! So I had no choice but to become a singer, now I'm working on it!

Street Voice: You started off singing at an early age so who initially influenced you to want to take this path?

I don't really know what or who exactly. It just happened. I used to be a ballerina and spent all my time at dance school and then BAMM!! And i'm no longer interested in dancing. It was school teachers who kept encouraging me to sing. They assured me that i have a pretty good voice so I need to practice. I believed 'em (silly) and started looking for an inspiration. First singer who actually influenced me and became my vocal coach was Christina Aguilera. All singing techniques i've learned trough her records.

Street Voice: In 2008 you released your debut album so is this album sung in Russian or are the vocals in English?

As long as i mostly work in Russia almost all of my songs are in Russian, but still I have plans for doing an english record.

Street Voice: When you write your songs where do you get your ideas from?

From life mostly. My life. That's why almost all of my songs are sad and feministic.

Street Voice: If people want a copy of your album where can they purchase it from?

Tough question. I'm still trying to upload my album on Itunes store but until that happen all of my songs are available for free in the internet.

Street Voice: Are there any plans to release a new album in 2010?

I hate making plans, especially this kind of plans. I'm just recording material when i have inspiration and that's it. It's not like "Ok. now I need 13 tracks and make an album", everything is more spontaneous. and I like it.

Street Voice: If you could share a stage with three artists who would they be and why?

First would be Christina Aguilera for sure and why you already know. Then probably Joss Stone, she's one of my favorite singers, her music is incredible! And...umm Rihanna maybe. I like the way she's moving. I like her style, it's pop and rock and punk at the same time! I hate to admit it but I want to be like her, hehehe!

Street Voice: I notice on your My Space page it says you're located in England so is London now your home or do you split time between here and Russia?

You're quite attentive. I have to say that my one and only love is England. Everything about this country inspires me so I will do anything to live there no matter how hard it is to split between Russia and England.

Street Voice: You're also been nomiated in the top 100 of most beautiful women on this planet so were you thrilled to be included?

Sure I was! It's good to feel sexy and even better when someone notices this.

Street Voice: Being so beautiful and being nominated in that top 100 list and being featured in Playboy has this opened a career as a model for you?

Oh! Thank you :-) I always loved modeling and it was actually one of my childhood dreams! I have to say that i truly enjoyed being a MOTIVI spokes girl and looking forward for new proposals but i don't take it too seriously.

Street Voice: Talking of Playboy was this an exciting time for you?

It was tough for the first time, probably because i was only 19 and it was my first naked photoshoot, but the second one was amazing! I had great crew who helped me to bring all of my ideas to life) And i just enjoyed the whole process from creating an image, till posing. I felt sooo sexy))))

Street Voice: I also noticed you're still waiting for a proposal from your partner so has this happened yet? If not can I propose? :-)

Well you have a chance as long as i'm single:-) Unfortunately it's hard for me to have a boyfriend because my work is one.

Street Voice: Aside from singing what else do you get up to in your spare time?

My friends and family. Unfortunately i don't have time for other things.

Street Voice: What are you up to on New Years Eve? Are you a party girl or do you prefer a romantic night in with your partner?

I've decided to spend it with my mom, dad and my dogs. I'm not a party girl so I prefer quiet dinner with my family.

Street Voice: 2010 is almost upon us so what plans have you for next year?

I don't make any plans. I just live my life. But hope that i will be performing and will be happy!

Street Voice: Anything you'd like to add?

Happy New year!

Thank you Victoria for taking time out to do the interview and for getting it back so quick. Victoria Daineko is one cool lady so please do check her music out as you will really enjoy what you hear. I hope 2010 is a great year for you Victoria and hopefully we'll see more of you in Street Voice over the next year.

REVIEWS

THE BERMONDSEY JOYRIDERS - S/T: I've heard a lot about this band and most of what I've heard hasn't been good. What I reckon is people think 'Cock Sparrer' when it comes to Garry Lammin and think 'Chelsea' when it comes to Martin Stacey but what they get with the Bermondsey Joyriders is something entirely different. On listening to this ten track album I can understand why I've heard so many grumbles. The fusion of Rhythm N Blues with Punk Rock really doesn't work both musically and vocally. What you'd expect musically from accomplished musicians is something far better than what you hear on this album. Vocally it's also fair to say that Garry Lammin can't sing either! Apart from their own songs which are instantly forgettable they even manage to ruin 'Runnin Riot' by Cock Sparrer!! For a songwriter to ruin a song he originally wrote and played on is unbelievable!! In my eyes anyone who gives this album a good review are either mates of the band or people blinded by the fact that members of the Bermondsey Joyriders played for established bands in the past. For further proof of just how poor this album is a friend saw this on the side in my house waiting to be reviewed and his first words were 'I've been after this album for ages'. When he put this album in the player he got no further than the second track! If you want to hear decent Rhythm N Blues influenced Punk check out Eddie & The Hotrods! 2/10

CANTERBURY - Thank You: Canterbury are a kick ass band that fuses indie, rock and pop together to create a wicked guitar sound that is very catch. Nor only that but the tunes you hear on this release are very addictive and from the very start of of 'Thank You' you'll soon be singing along. This eleven track release is of very high quality throughout and I for one am surprised that a well known label hasn't come along to release this album. It's great to come across a young band who are far from predictable and play the music they want to play and not because it's the done thing. There's not one filler on this release but tunes that really grabbed me were '11, 12', 'Diver', 'Ambulance', 'Take Me Out Of the Wall' and 'Hometime'. If you've not heard Canterbury before then this album is a fine place to start. 8.5/10

DEADLINE - Bring The House Down: I have to say this is the best album Deadline have written and if this was released by the likes of then this would sell by the thousands without a doubt. Musically the band has it sewn up with some great guitar work and driving bass lines throughout. H, Doudou, Pascal and Ryan give it their all and are probably one of the tightest bands that the UK has to offer musically. However great a band are musically they need to have a front person that is on equal par and does Liz Rose deliver? This lady does more than deliver. Liz has given it her all and really does turn this album into the sheer brilliant release it is. The diversity Liz has in her vocal range shows on tracks such as 'The Trouble Is', and 'Fraud' but it's really put to the test on the acoustic number 'Thorn In My Side'
where she truly delivers. This five-piece Kent band should be huge and hopefully with this album they'll go up a few levels because Deadline really deserve it. I doubt there's one punk band in the UK at the moment who could deliver what is served up on 'Bring The House Down'. This thirteen track album is what Rock n Roll should be about. Their cover of 'These Boots Are Made For Walking' is spot and with their own tracks 'The Trouble Is', 'Bring The House Down' and 'Breakdown Baby' the future certainly looks great for Kent's finest. 10/10

EXTREME O.D. - This Is The End EP: While Extreme O.D. are very musically competent there's nothing I haven't heard countless times over the years from other bands. The three tracks on here are decent enough metal tines but reality hits you from the opening moments of the title track 'This Is The End' that extreme O.D. sound like so many other UK bands in the same genre and I got bored very quickly which was a shame. These guys can play and they're better than most of the UK bands doing the rounds in their genre of music but if they want to take it further they need to use imagination more to create the 'Wow' factor. You just don't get that with this release! 6.5/10

THE HEIGHTS - The Land, The Ocean, The Distance EP: The Heights play full on HC/Screamo and while at times their sound comes across as pretty predictable there are also moments that are enjoyable especially the guitar work from Dean and Tom. Thomas really delivers his vocal with passion and that's why I will say what is on offer here are a band that are certainly more polished than a lot of bands doing the rounds in their genre of music. Given time this five piece will stand out from the crowd. Young people enjoy this style of music and no doubt they'll find all three tracks on this release enjoyable especially 'Empires' and 'World Apart'. If you want to check out a HC band that pays no heed to restrictions then the Heights are a decent enough place to start. 7/10

HERO - Fires Of Beltain: Canadian rockers Hero are back with a new album and this is one of the best yet! This thirteen track album sees the band flirt with different genres which has them playing anything from classic rock to metal which many guitar fans will enjoy. In parts it misses some punch but in other areas what Hero deliver is spot on making this release a decent listen. What's more Fires Of Beltain comes with some well written lyrics that adds to it charm. My favourite numbers on here were the opening number 'Hey, Hey Hey, Hey', 'Fires Of Beltain', 'Bridges Burning', 'Hangover' and 'New Day'. This also comes well produced and packaging is spot on. A nice arty CD Booklet is an important part of this release with the lyrics featured so you can sing-a-long. For fans of guitar music this album will almost certainly appeal to you 7/10

KICKBACK UK - Persevering With Positivity EP: Kickback UK are a new name to me but I have to say their take on socially aware Ska-Punk is pretty spot on. There's not one filler on this seven track release and my only grumble would be there was very little information that came with this release. However they're a tight enough band to make you get up off your arse and find out a little more about them. The tracks that stood out for me were 'We Are Never Going Back To Montrose', 'All The Wrong Reasons' and 'Reality Check' It's fair to say that you'll probably find your own favourites on this release. If this is the standard of music Kickback UK are putting out then don't be surprised when you see them at a venue in your town. 8/10

LET'S GO TO WAR - Life We Live: The three track release has hardly been off my CD player when I checked it out over the weekend. This trio manage to fuse electro, hip hop and reggae into their sound and actually make it work! The three songs plays testament to how creative these guys are to take completely different genres of music then fuse them to come out with something very fresh sounding. More importantly the creativity in all three songs on this release show these guys aren't one hit wonders. Let's Go To War are here to stay and with songs such as 'Live We Life' and 'Burn Down The Disco' I can't wait to hear an album from these guys . To ignore Let's Go To War would be sheer criminal as they're one of those bands just blow the cobwebs of today's music which on the whole is stale. What this Canadian trio have to offer will blow your mind. 9/10

MALEFICENT - Demize EP: Despite going for a fair while I've only just come across this London based outfit but I can guarantee I'll be keeping an eye on this band in the future as this recent EP really is something worth listening to. Malecifent incorporate are band that isn't afraid to experiment and their usage of the industrial, metal and rock sounds has really paid off. There's seven tracks on this release and it would bed fair to say this is spot on from start to finish. Kicking off this release is 'New Deadly Tragedy' which is a build up to the second track 'Demize' which is my favourite track on this offering. From there on you're treated to quality tracks such as 'Malice and Desire' and a taken on the Nick Cave song 'Where Wild Roses Grow' which is certainly worth hearing. The dual male / female vocals from Maleficent Martini and Mortimer Cain really work well together. Their often haunting vocals get’s inside your head and draws you into their sound which leaves you addicted and craving for more. Without some quality musicianship from Peter Turner and Vincent M. Sickx (who plays a large part in the band's sound with his multi use of instruments from guitar to synthesizers) maybe this band wouldn't gel? Between them it's fair to say they've created something very cool here and I for one reckon they're one of the best bands in the UK at present. What you hear on this EP should be enough to convince you as not only are they a great band musically they also know how to get a production that works really well for them. Be sure to check out Demize – This release really does rock! 9/10

THE OCTOBER GAME - Greenbacks: The October Game are a new band to me so I've no past releases to compare to what I'm listening to now. The title track 'Greenbacks' is a decent enough rock number that manages to hold your interest despite it being five minutes in length. What I like about this is how the song changes to something passive to being very energetic and back again which is done. The second track 'You Haven't See Me Change' is Ok'ish but it doesn't have the same charm as 'Greenbacks' sound does sound a tad tame for my liking. The third track 'Concrete' is a Live/Acoustic number that didn't do a lot for me either. In fact it was pretty boring and can't see many people getting much out of this. I see much of this single as a filler but in fairness it is worth picking up for 'Greenbacks' alone. 6/10

PEARSE MCGLOUGHLIN - Busy Whisper: This is the debut album from Pearse McGloughlin and for an acoustic album it isn't bad at all. From start to finish this a very unassuming album as it's full of character which many acoustic albums fail to achieve. To be honest when I first read the press release I thought I'd hate this release but with tracks such as 'Consume', 'Changeling' and 'Haunting Room' I felt the complete opposite. While it's not an album I'd play every day it's certainly one that will be pulled out the collection when I need to chill. 'Busy Whisper' is one of those albums that will stand the test of time simply because of the atmosphere it creates and that's why Pearse McGloughlin should be checked out! 8.5/10

PERSON L - The Positives: Person L is the brainchild of Kenneth Vasoli who was the vocalist / songwriter for the Starting Line who sold almost a million records and sold out tours. However this wasn't enough for Mr Vasoli and so Person L was formed. Drawing his inspiration artists such as Animal Collective, James Brown and Radiohead sees the band deliver some tidy Garage Rock with some elements of Emo, R 'n' B and Rockabilly. In parts it's if Person L have their own sound and in other parts there's some of that DC sound in there. Fugazi especially you can hear in the sound. This is what makes this an enjoyable enough release on most part. In parts I found myself getting a tad bored but the better elements of this release made up for that. If you're after something new and very unpredictable then maybe 'The Positives' album is something you should be checking out with tracks such as 'Hide In The Fence', 'The Positives', 'Stay Calm' and 'Changed Man'. Kenneth Vasoli and Co deliver the goods here and to ignore this album would be a mistake. 8/10

STACEY JACKSON - Upside Down: Stacey Jackson is one cool lady. This American artist who moved to London a few years back with her family has re-launched her musical career with a very cool album. This album is about raising money for the UK's leading children's music charity 'Music For Youth' and giving children a once in a lifetime experience across the UK. Stacey encouraged the more gifted children from MFY to get involved and they appear on this album with her. A real life 'School Of Rock' in the making here and you know it works very well. OK some may complain about this being a covers album but put those thoughts to one side and give this album a listen and you'll find a very talented vocalist in Stacey Jackson and you'll find some children who play their hearts out throughout this release. 'Upside Down' is great fun with tracks such as 'Upside Down', 'Papa Was A Rolling Stone', 'Band Of Gold', 'Son Of A Preacher Man' and 'When A Man Loves A Woman'. This is Stacey paying tribute to all her favourite Mo-Town tracks as well as giving young people a chance to live their dream as well as raising money for a very deserving cause. This album really does deserve a listen. 8/10

SUB FOCUS - Could This Be real: Drum n Bass / Dance artist Sub Focus has a bright future ahead of him and with singles like 'Could This Be Real' are certainly worth checking out. This tune has a wicked sound with a driving bass line that will certainly have many in the dance scene on their feet as this is a very enjoyable song. However like so many Drum n Bass / Dance artists Sub Focus features too many of the same re-mixes on this release which kinda grinds on you by the time you've heard the same song five times! However Sub Focus saves himself by featuring another track on this release 'Triple X' which is an instrumental though while not as potent as Could This Be Real still deserves a listen. A decent release from a very cool artist here. 7/10

VELVET STAR - S/T EP: It's great to hear a UK band that has some great tunes that incorporates Glam, Rock with a touch of Punk for good measure. This seven track EP is rather likeable and with songs such as '15 Minutes', 'Give In To Me' and 'Party's Over' you can't go far wrong here. There's some great guitar work from guitarists Sam and Adie. Not forgetting the tidy bass lines from Corey which adds the to the drive of this band. Danmny delivers some wicked vocals which compliment the music the rest of the band are serving up. This Yorkshire based band are certainly worth tracking down as they deliver the goods which inturn will blow you away! 8.5/10

V/A S/T EP: This is the latest release from TNS in Manchester and what a beauty it is too! There's three bands 'Sense Of Urgency', 'Stand Out Riot' and 'AWarAgainstSound' who between them serve up ten wicked Ska-Punk tracks. For me Stand Out Riot are the best band on this release but it's fair to say that the other two bands aren't far behind. The quality of tracks on this release is pretty wicked with no fillers. For me this EP is best turned up loud and listened to with a few beers and with tracks such as 'The Night We Exploded' (Sense Of Urgency), 'This Is Not A Movement' and 'Law And Hurs' Doeuvres' (Stand Up Riot) and 'To Fraud A Cause' (AWarAgainstSound) you really can't go wrong. The production is spot on and it comes well packaged. What a release to start 2010 with – Yes! 9/10

V/A - The Best Of Fried Egg Records (Bristol 1979 – 1980): When this fell through the letterbox I was looking forward to this release as I'd never really heard anything from Fried Egg Records before. As the title suggests this is a compilation featuring the best punk and new wave bands coming out of Bristol around 1979 – 1980. However as soon as I put this disc into the player and went through the tracks I found hardly anything to like about this release. It just sounds so dated and I fail to understand how bands could be so boring when punk was still in it's early stages?! There's nothing there that has the excitement and rawness that bands such as The Angelic Upstarts, Blitz and the Cockney Rejects had. This will probably only be of interest to record collectors of early punk and new wave. It certainly wont appeal to anyone else apart from the Art Objects and The Various Artists tracks. They say you can't get mugged down memory lane but you certainly will with this release!!! 2/10
