Author Fran Lewis read When Fates Collide, the new release that the one and only Andrea Dean Van Scoyoc and I released a while back. She told me she laughed so hard that she needed Depends to keep her pants dry. If you haven't ordered this book yet, what are you waiting for. We have made it so easy, We have it on lulu and Amazon kindle as well as both of our online stores. Folks this is going to be a series and this is just the beginning and you have read it to enjoy the next one. so come on folks help out two starving authors - You won't be disappointed.

When Fates Collide

The title not only fits the story but the way it begins too. There have been many pairs of outlaws that have teamed up. Bonnie and Clyde, Thelma and Louise and of course Batman and Robin. But, none of these pairs can compare to the zany and seriously wacky bounty hunter who teams up with a receptionist working in corporate America to hunt and bring back and track down a jumper who has eluded the law and will stop at nothing to get their man.

Meet Hope: Sitting innocently having a drink in her usual hangout the Crypt feeling sorry for herself and saying that she has no life and nothing ever happens to her of any consequence. Maybe she should have been thankful for that. All too often when we complain and wish for more or some changes in our lives we might get our wish but not exactly in the way we might have liked. Hope lives in Tampa and thought that she would be there for the rest of her live doing her everyday and mundane job and just going through the motions. But, then she meets Alex. No, she does not just come up to her and say, “Hi, you wanna be friends or BFF’s.”   That would be boring and not make this great story what it is funny, comical and extremely creative for first time paired authors Yvonne Mason and Andrea Dean Van Scoyoc.

Alex is a bounty hunter who is looking for someone named Hope Harrington, who you would assume is a woman or a young girl. But, you know what happens when you assume. I don’t have to explain that to you. Well, she goes into this bar the Crypt thinking that she now has her man and will earn the bounty or the money for bringing him in. Walking into the bar with the guys jacket or rap sheet she sees what she thinks is her jumper and proceeds to execute the arrest and telling the suspect not to even think about trying to get away. Of course I am using different words for this review. Spinning her around she slammed her onto the floor and what came out of Hope’s mouth cannot be written but you can just imagine what you would say if it were you getting slammed dunked. After realizing that she had found Hope Harrington but not the one she was looking for the two decided to get to know each other and team up to find the real suspect.

The guy that they were really looking could change his appearance at the drop of a hat and was out to make Alex look bad to her boss and to herself too. But, Alex is a force to be reckoned with and timid and not so forceful Hope is about to learn the ropes and learn a whole new meaning of not so boring life or job.

After losing the suspect twice they decide they try to figure out his next move. Alex feels that he might try and steal a boat and head for the Florida Keys. How she manages to lose the suspect you will have to read for yourself. With the help of a friend named Tyrell, Alex and Hope take off for the Keys and what happens is hysterical and yet creative that you would think this was an episode of America’s creative and funniest videos or the new and improved Unsolved Crimes solved in a very unique and different way.

With all of the boats at the dock and many there for Gay Pride week it was easy to lose the suspect in such a big crowd. But they would not give up and Alex would not lose the bounty and her time was short and she needed to find this guy and fast. There was a festival in St. Duvall and Alex thought that since this guy was a master of disguise he might be hiding in plain sight and of course looking anything but like himself. Splitting up and searching for this guy Tyrell gets a lead and relates the suspects true appearance to Alex. How they finally get him will make you double over and yet show pure admiration for our girl Hope and her clever mentor Alex. How far would you go as a law enforcement officer to get your man? Would you have yourself body painted as a nun in order to hide your true identity? Would you have yourself body painted as a zombie to create a diversion and not allow yourself to be noticed? Would you come up with a clever way to make these disguises work for you and against the suspect who is not only full of himself and loves attention but has his body painted too. I won’t tell you as what because that might give too much away.

Hope is quite smart and she comes up with a way to not only help Alex foil this guy but help others too. There is a contest for the best costume being held on Mallory Square. She convinces the people in charge of the contest to add a new twist to it: They were going to sell off the contestants to the highest bidder. Yes: there own contest and whomever gets the most bids during the contest, as in who wants to own that person the most, as the authors state, will go out on a date with the lucky winner. The proceeds will go to a children’s charity fund.

What happens during the contest and how they finally get him will not only give up pause for thought about how dangerous the job of a bounty hunter really is, but also how creative and cunning you have to be. Just when Alex apprehends the suspect as he comes on stage another twist and turn occurs and she needs the help of her Uncle Max a higher up in law enforcement to help complete the takedown of this man. The rest and the outcome you will have to read for yourself. The friendship between these two gets as tight as the handcuffs on a criminal and they decide they make a good team. Will Hope chuck her job in corporate America for a life of danger, the unknown, sleepless nights, travel and not many amenities, or will she decide to go back and complain about having no life and being bored? Will Alex entice her to take a step on the wild side and be her partner? You will have to wait and see. I can feel a sequel coming on and I know that you the reader will want to see what trouble these two will get into next.

Five stars would not be the right things for this book: Five Bounty Hunters and Five Gift Cards for Body Painting by Mr. Van Goth.

As Most of you know writing True Crime is my all time favorite thing to do. It is not because I love blood and guts- or even because the criminal mind is indeed an interesting thing to examine. It is because the victims are forgotten so fast and so easily. Once the news media moves on to something else, the victims are forever lost in the purple haze called past life. This is so sad, it is almost as if they never existed to begin with. They become just a faint mist which hovers just out of reach of those left behind. Sometimes even their faces fade into that mist.

Yesterday I received a very interesting phone call from my oldest daughter who lives in Ga and is one of my biggest fans. (Go Figure) Anyway, she told me that she felt it was time to write the story of her sister in law who was murdered in Jackson County in 2000. It was listed as just a car accident, however, there is reason to believe that she was indeed murdered - She left behind two beautiful girls, who deserve to have more of their mother than just faint memories.
My son in law is finally ready for me to do this for him. His sister raised him after his parents died and her death was very hard on him. He was an angry young man for many years.
In the course of the conversation my daughter was having with my son in law and his brother about this adventure, a friend of theirs who was also there, and was a former deputy sheriff for Habersham County which is the next County west of Jackson County asked my daughter if  Iwould be interested in writing about his mother who was murdered by his stepfather- not only did he murder her, he sold the body parts. It took six months to find enough parts to bury. At the time the friend was still a deputy and once the evidence proved the stepfather committed the crime, he went and arrested him.
I am already working on one from here in Fort Pierce. So that is three true crimes which I will probably be releasing in the near future.
My daughter told my son in law's brother, who was at first hesitate about this endevour, that his sister would not be exploited, that she would be given a voice and that her life would be respected.  She told him about the families of my girls letting me know how much they appreciated their story being told. She is giving him Silent Scream to read. She is very proud of that book.
The point of my story is this, even my daughter, who was never a reader can see that my vicitms have a voice, they are treated with respect and dignity and the families can grieve and finally move on. This tells me that my true crime books serve a purpose for other than just entertainment.
They heal. Which is really what it should be all about. They also show the world that the victims lived on this earth. They were loved, and they had a purpose. They were not just some nameless faces in a crowd.
I knew Silent Scream was meant to be, I knew it would have an impact, even those few who have blasted it were impacted. What I didn't know was how much it has meant to so many.
How many people have been effected and the ripple effect it has created.
It seems there are so many stories out there and families want a voice for their loved ones. They want them to be remembered.
Is this the path I am to take? AM I the voice for those who can no longer speak for themselves? Is this the reason I am to write?
I don't know the answer, all I know at this point is there are voices crying in the dark to be heard. There are screams which no one hears because they have been silenced by death.
If I can give just one victim back that voice, give just one victim the chance to be noticed and not forgotten then my path will be worth it.
It is not an easy path, the victims haunt me daily, the research alone is time consuminig and most times very graphic. Tragic Death is never pretty. It is ugly- worse than ugly- it is beyond any description that any writer can produce. It is not Hollywood, blood and guts. It is real and at the end of the day the victims don't get to go home. They never are seen by their familes again. They are part of the Purple Haze of the past. A mist which is burnt away by the morning sun.
So boys and girls as you go about your day, and as you think about the mundane things of every  day life, think of the victims, send me courage that I might continue to be their voice, to speak where they can no longer speak, to show the world they did at one time walk on this earth. And to give their families something to hold on to besides the brutality of their death. They deserve more. They deserve to be heard.

CHAPTER ONE

THE JUMPER

Hi…I’m Hope Harrington and this is my story…

I sound rather boring don’t I? Well, to tell you the truth I am…or rather…I was. Before I met Alex Morgan, my life was as exciting as watching paint dry. Don’t laugh, it’s true.

I had a boring day job I hated; I had no life, few friends and dated only when the mood struck me. To say that I had no life would actually be an understatement.

I worked for a firm in downtown ..Tampa.. as a secretary and spent my free time club hopping in ....Ybor.. ..City....…and that’s how I met Alex.

But…I’m getting ahead of myself.

I came into this world on October 10, 1969 in an unremarkable way, to unremarkable parents (except for my mother naming me after my Uncle Ken’s horse, but don’t even get me started on that!) and grew up in an unremarkable town in ....Florida..... Yep…I’m a Native Floridian. Yippee, although to the Yankees and tourists that visit you’d think I was some kind of treasure.

I am enough American Indian to carry a card stating that the government can keep tabs on me (but I don’t) but it’s hard to look at me with my long black hair, black eyes and sharp features and think I’m anything else but a true native; but am mixed with some good old fashioned European too.

In High School I hung out with, what was called back in my day, “nerds.” The rejects of society; that was where you could find me. I did nothing, went nowhere and when I left home at eighteen to see the world…that sad trend continued. I moved from one boring city in ..Florida.. to another…but at least ....Tampa.... has a skyline!

All my life I’ve been different, afraid to get to close to people for fear of what they’d think of me. You see…I’m an empath, a true and gifted empath; not the ridiculous crap you see on TV on the ghost shows. My gift is real, something I suspect handed down through the generations of my parent’s…both sides, although it was never something my mother wanted to discuss and my dad? Forget it. No discussing weird things with him…ever.

That right there gave me all the answer I needed. As for my path…my “religion”…whatever you want to call it, well, let’s just say that’s as complicated as I am and I’ll get into that another time.

See, told you I’m boring.

I figured that I’d live in ....Tampa.... until I died and be buried in an unremarkable grave with an unremarkable graveside service and have a just as equally unremarkable epitaph on my marker. “Here lies Hope. She went nowhere and did nothing with her life.”

That probably was going to be my existence too, for real - that is…until I met Alex.

That’s because she tried to arrest me. All of a sudden, I went from having no life to more life than I’d ever dreamed possible.

But…Alex still had a job to do and that was where I came in. Maybe I could use my empathic ability for more than allowing it to drive me nearly insane with feelings I couldn’t control and strange dreams I couldn’t shake.

Alex still needs to catch her bad guy and now we are on the hunt…

Yeah, yeah ,yeah, Hope says she had no life until she met me. Well, if you want to talk about no life, let me just give you some history. My name is Alex, I know it sounds like a guy. But I hate my given name, Alexandra Morgan.

Who in the hell wants to be named for a stripper? No, not the woman who gave birth to me way back in the day, but the friend she had in the club they both stripped for. It was a dirty dive in ..Georgia.. in downtown ....Atlanta..... One of those nondescript places that all the out of town conventioneers go to when they are in town for what they called “conventions.”

Anyway, the woman who gave birth to me out of wedlock, needed a name in a hurry, because I was born in a hurry. The only one she could think of was the name of her friend, Alexandra the Great. I know geeky name, but what do you expect with a stripper?

As soon as I was old enough (which was seventeen) I blew that place and never looked back, striking out on my own. Everyone said I would never amount to much because I had too much going against me. I was born to a woman who wouldn’t look after me, I was only five feet tall and I was afraid of my shadow. Maybe that was from all the leering drunks I had to put up with as a child.

When I left, I dusted the dirt off my feet and re-created myself. Since I am green eyed, I decided to capitalize on my Celtic heritage (at least my mother said she was of Irish heritage) and made sure my hair was the right color of red, well actually burgundy. I learned ground fighting and boxing. I got my concealed weapons permit, learned how to hit the kill zone and went to work as a freelance bounty hunt.

Yep, I was laughed at by men and women alike, but what the hell, my motto is “Failure is not an Option.”

Florida Author Yvonne Mason has given us a story of success in a time of failure for the challenged. She has given a voice to a child born in 1952 who became challenged. In her newest release “Dream Catcher, Failure Was Never An Option”, Ms. Mason brings to life the story of success of a young man, her younger brother, Stan Robinson who is challenged.

Stan was born in 1952 when there were no options for the challenged. He was never supposed to succeed. His only option was failure. His parents were advised to put him away in an asylum and forget he ever existed. They made the loving choice not to do that. They made the choice to allow Stan to become successful when Failure was his only option.

Ms.Mason puts pen to paper and brings Stan’s Story to life as he catches his dreams and makes them real. She brings to life Stan’s belief in who he is and what he is about. She shows the reader how one man has made a difference in every life he has touched.

Ms. Mason takes the reader into the life of Stan’s family as they deal with an older child as well as a baby who is challenged. She brings to life the pain, heartache and deep emotion of the mother as she learns to cope with Stan. Ms. Mason also brings to life the hope, the love and the deep abiding loyalty of the family as more siblings are added to the mix.

The stories bring tears, laughter, anger and feelings of hope, success and belief that behind all of us there is the ability to succeed even when we feel we can’t.

She shows how even those who are not considered “normal” can catch their dreams and own them.

Dream Catcher, Failure Was Never An Option is the yardstick by which Ms. Mason patterns her own life and success. She says, “Had it not been for Stan I would have given up a long time ago in my quest to be an accomplished author.”

Ms. Mason has proven that she is indeed that. She has several books currently on the market, including “Silent Scream” her true crime, the story of the victims of Gerard Schaefer who was Florida’s first serial killer, This book is becoming a best seller. Her other works are Tangled Minds, Brilliant Insanity and her newest release  When Fates Collide  which was co-authored with bestselling author Andrea Dean Van Scoyoc.

All of her books can be purchased as Lulu.com, Amazon.com and her online bookstore at http://thebookattic.ecrater.com

Currently Dream Catcher, Tangled Minds, Silent Scream and Brilliant Insanity can also be purchased for Kindle Readers at Amazon.

Ms. Mason is always eager to correspond with her readers. She can be reached at ysam51@yahoo.com  check out her websites at www.myspace.com/yvonnemason and her ning site at http://reivewabook.ning.com

As most of you know I have several books out in the world of literature - However, due to the fact that Silent Scream  has taken on its own life form my other works have taken a back seat.

Well it is time to get those puppies back in the forefront of my world. You see boys and girls, they are lonely. They need a home.

Tangled Minds was my second novel. It is the story of a young woman who refuses to accept the responsiblity for her actions- In doing that she sets up a chain of events which follow not only her but her young son. This book has been compared to the writings of John Steinbeck's of Mice and Men. I know it's an oldie- but it is a classic

Tangled Minds is based on a real crime, committed by a real young man who happened to be a friend of my oldest daughter. He went to prison for 10 years for his part in it. The young woman is based on my oldest daughter who started having children at 16 years old. She made many bad decisions and because of those bad decisions there were consequences she is still suffering today.

tangledmindsnewcover-1.jpg Tangled Minds picture by ysam51This book has been re-released through Lulu and it can be purchashed through my online bookstore at The Book Attic

This book should be read by every teen both girl and boy it has many lessons which unfortuantly for some it is too late.

The next book which has benn sitting in the wings was so much fun to write I didn't want it to end. That book is Titled Brilliant Insanity. The reason it was so much fun to write is I wrote it in the first and third person. I wrote it as the killer.

Marion Lewis Reinhart has five days to live before he is executed. But he has a story to tell and he will only tell it to one person. He is granted permission to tell that story and has alot of fun doing it.

What he tells this reporter will change her forever, and will solve other unsolved killings. But who is Reinhart? Is he really who he says he is? Or does he have a deep dark secret that he wants to share?

Only Mandy McQuiad will be the one to find out as she walks through the madness that is Reinhart's mind.

I wrote this book while I was researching Silent Scream. It actually wrote itself- Brilliant Insanity takes the reader into the mind of the killer in a way that makes you wonder how you got there.

Brilliant Insanity was published by Kerlak Publishing and can also be purchased at my online store at The Book Attic
NewCover.jpg Brilliant Insanity picture by ysam51So come  on boys and girls- help give these babies a home. Mother's day is coming up soon and these would be some great gifts.
