It's surprisingly difficult to find a decent, durable local outfit that combines music and comedy, especially when you consider how thoroughly steeped Chicago is in both. With their improv-troupe resumes and playful pop songwriting, Let's Get Out of This Terrible Sandwich Shop are devoted to whimsy- so much so that they've tried to declare a moratorium on They Might Be Giants comparisons, with only middling success- but what gives their tunes staying power is the mordant edge to their giddy silliness. The recent internet single "Baseball Cards Are Going to Make Me Rich" and the four songs on the new seven-inch EP Pain Makes You Older (for which this show is a release party) have a whistling-past-the-graveyard quality that gives them surprising depth- it may sound hard to believe, but they're almost haunting. - Monica Kendrick
Thank you, The Reader.

Music is precious. Just like life. That's why on Friday, November 14, 2008, Let's Get Out of This Terrible Sandwich Shop will announce that it is the father of a brand new light blue vinyl 7" EP. The co-ed goof rock combo decided on the name *Pain Makes You Older*, which sounds to me like an Injun name.
The mother of this record is the harlot Electrical Audio Studios, who has mothered too many records to mention. Judgments aside, the miracle of music is happening and this event must be solemnly respected and cautiously celebrated at Schuba's, which translated to God's English means "pro-life for music." Vote McCain.

Hey gang,
Tom Vale and Greg Norman finished mixing the new LP last night while I dozed on the couch. The album is called "Listening." We've added one of the songs pre-mastered to the playlist. It's called "Henry and the Horse."
It's about Henry Ford and his relationship with a horse before Henry invented all of the cars.
The word "listening" can be heard in the lyrics to this song...kind of like the Pixies, right? Y'know "come on, pilgrim you know he loves you" and "i wanna bossa nova with ya" and this sort of thing.
Look for a show in Chicago to celebrate the release of this record in the month of August.
We love you and all the coyotes that are attacking people at Quiznos.
Love, Tony Mendoza Manager of the Sandwich Shop
PS - Please send a card to the Cat c/o the shop. He's a little under the weather today.

Friends!
The Sandwich Shop is dumb busy aiming our merriment gun at your face and ears.
We're recording on 2" tape once again with the great Greg Norman, who has taken on the role of producer/slave driver. Why would we want these songs and other songs to sound so good? "Run through the Mountains" "Henry and the Horse" "789'er" "Chattanooga Koo Koo" "Bionic Dolphin" "My Fucken Family" "VIP Room" "Things to Throw Basketballs At"
The album will be called "Listening" and we're shooting for a summer release on Roydale. We also have a 7" in the works for the fall or the autumn or the early winter.
The fun Jim Newberry took some great pictures (pronounced "pitchers") of us featuring our newest member, Captain Tom Cuidado. We picked a fun location and garish attire.
And shows! Can't wait to play Ronny's next week. Always love a new venue. Thea went there a long time ago and was molested by a skeezy local. We're playing with our good friends in Jupiter and our good Dayton, OH friends in 8-Bit Revival.
We'll also be on WLUW on February 22 on the Razor and Di show. It'll be pledge drive week so we have to keep the gabbing to minimum and just play, man. Hooray we get to share a bill with our favorite people, labelmates The Bitter Tears.
A lot of emails come in asking about the Cat. He would like to answer the emails but he is a little under the weather today.
Take care and drop us a line on a count of we love you, do you know.
Best, tony mendoza Manager of the Sandwich Shop
