After gaining huge success with top ten hit ‘Heavyweight Champion of the world’ through to touring with Oasis on their last ever tour Reverend and the Makers will be heading to Cornwall for a headline show at the Princess Pavilion in Falmouth on Saturday 20 March.

Fusing indie rock melodies and attitudes with dance rhythms and electronic surfaces, Reverend and the Makers were formed by vocalist and songwriter Jon ‘The Reverend’ McClure, who at the age of 25 was already a fixture on the music scene in Sheffield, England.

Previously a member of the short-lived bands Judan Suki and 1984, McClure had a reputation in Sheffield as both a songwriter and a poet, and became something of a mentor to Alex Turner, who would become an overnight sensation as the leader of the group Arctic Monkeys (Turner mentions McClure's 1984 in his song ‘I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor’).

When Arctic Monkeys began developing a massive buzz on the basis of Internet circulation of their demos, McClure was offered six-figure deals by record companies to put together a band that sounded just like them; however, even though he was out of work, he opted to follow his own muse and instead formed Reverend and the Makers with guitarist Tom Jarvis, Ed Cosens on bass, keyboard players Joe Moskow and Laura Manuel, drummer Richy Westley, and Stuart Doughty on percussion.

The band made its live debut in 2005, and in the spring of 2006 Arctic Monkeys took McClure and his band on the road as their opening act. In time, Reverend and the Makers developed a loyal following and could sell out 1,000-capacity clubs in their Sheffield hometown; Mark Jones saw the band and was strongly impressed, promptly signing them to his Wall of Sound label.

Reverend and the Makers' first single, ‘Heavyweight Champion of the World’ appeared in May 2007 and soon hit the top 10. It also included an appearance by one of McClure's lyrical inspirations, John Cooper Clarke, on the B-side, ‘The Last Resort.’  A second single, ‘He Said He Loved Me,’ followed, with the group's first album, The State of Things, appearing in shops in September 2007.

Reverend and the makers were last seen in the SW when they played a storming set at the 2008 Boardmasters in Newquay before Groove Armada. To relive what was an incredible set by an incredible live band make sure you don’t miss them t Princess Pavilion on 20 March!

Tickets for this event are £12 in advance and are available from www.seetickets.com  0871 2200260 and Princess Pavilion Box Office 01326 211222.

Known for their energetic live performances, Hertfordshire punk rock band Gallows will be back in Cornwall for a show at Falmouth’s Princess Pavilion on Wednesday 9 December.

It’s been an incredible year for Gallows. Their critically-..acclaimed second album ‘Grey Britain’ stormed into the top 20, dragging ferociously real punk rock back into the charts for the first time in many years. A sold out tour of the UK followed, capped by an unforgettable headline show at London’s Forum that saw Gallows effortlessly translate their aggression and energy onto a larger stage.

The band can currently be seen tearing across America on the Vans Warped tour. In addition they have also been supporting American hardcore punk heavyweights AFI stateside. The band return to the UK to play the Reading/Leeds festivals at the end of August and are due to release new single, the nuclear powered, ‘I Dread The Night’ on August 30th.

Anyone who saw Gallows last time they came to Falmouth will be able to confirm that this is a show not to be missed – this is your chance to see why the respected UK rock magazine Kerrang! hailed the band as ‘the most genuinely exciting band to emerge from the UK underground’.

Support on the night comes from Sharks who are a new British rock ‘n’ roll group with absolute heart, that embellish their hardcore D.I.Y ethics with raw power of the soul. SHARKS believe in no trends, no scenes, only the path that they choose to go on. They set out to sound like themselves and themselves only, but with an appreciation of the things that influence them daily in their lives, whether it be musical or not. No cheap imitations, just honest emotion.

Sharks will usually be found playing floor shows, houses and any venue that doesn’t ban them after 15 minutes of pure renegade punk. Bloody fingers, bruises and a complete release of total angst and passion will be your typical SHARKS get-together. SHARKS have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with F**ked Up, Boy Kill Boy, The Joy Formidable and have various festivals in place for the summer.

Sharks are merely a band that speaks their mind, keeping to their roots and emotions as honest as they can, never trying to compromise the reality of who they are for the short way round.

Tickets for this event are £12 and are available from www...seetickets.com 0871 2200260 and Princess Pavilion Box Office 01326 211222.

SW1 Productions in association with Princess Pavilion in Falmouth are pleased to announce that The Automatic will headline on Friday 5th March as part of a mammoth 26 date UK tour.

With the recording of new album “Tear the Signs Down” now completed and debut single “Interstate” released on 6th December, plans are already in place for 2010 with a series of intimate shows at some of London’s legendary small venues before a full tour across the UK, including Falmouth, to showcase the new album, as well as all the hits from the previous two albums.

The Automatic first hit the scene in 2006 with smash hits, ‘Raoul’, ‘Recover’ and the giant ‘Monster’ which still receives a mass of radio plays.
A change of format, with the departure of Alex Pennie in 2007, brought about a new start for the band, who went on to release their follow up album which included radio hit ‘Steve McQueen’.

No strangers to Cornwall the band first played at the Rip Curl Boardmasters back in August 2006 as main support to Feeder, as well as the SAS Ball in 2006.

The Automatic are: Rob Hawkins (vocals, bass), Paul Mullen (vocals, guitar), James Frost (guitar), Iwan Griffiths (drums)

Tickets are £9.00 and available from www.seetickets.com 0871 2200260 or from the Princess Pavilion box office on 01326 211222 or from the Hall For Cornwall box office 01872 262466.

Singer Songwriter Ben Howard will play his first headline show in Cornwall at the new basement venue (currently being called The Powder Room) below the Wig & Pen in Truro on Saturday 5th December.

Howard is a live acoustic talent not to be missed. With recent supports for Xavier Rudd, Jason Mraz, Brett Dennen and festival appearances at Boardmasters, Gold Coast Festival, Lovebox and Glastonbury under his belt just this year, he continues to turn heads throughout Europe and across the pond.

Currently living in Falmouth, Ben emerged at the beginning of the year after playing a few of the regular Cornish venues through PressPlay Promotions, very quickly word spread and pretty soon local promoters SW1 got on board and offered a string of support slots, beginning with Brett Dennen in April of this year.

"It was pretty obvious from that first Brett Dennen gig that Ben was hugely talented, when the headliners stop and listen to the whole of the openers set, you know you have something special”
  says Katy Thomas, SW1 Productions

Howard went on to play at several SW1 Productions associated events including a slot on the main stage at Boardmasters and Gold Coast Festivals (which led to the Jason Mraz support tour in the US).  With the self release and subsequent sold out launch of his debut Ep, 'These Waters', and victory at the Red Stripe music awards it meant that things were going from strength to strength.

Growing up in Devon, Ben's blend of percussive folk and raw acoustics are fitting acknowledgements of his roots: both scenic and musical. The likes of John Martyn, Joni Mitchell and modern counterparts such as Bon Iver and Ray Lamontagne are all cited by Ben as heavy influences.

With the help of Quiksilver and in support of Surfers Against Sewage Ben will be playing a few select dates across the UK this December, strangely most of them, but not all!, are by the sea.

Tickets for the Powder Room show are £4.00 in advance and £5.00 on the door.  Available from
www.seetickets.com 0871 2200260 or through www.myspace.com/benhoward

If there was any one person/musician on this planet that could make you believe that  everything was going to be all right with the world…it’s the ever popular Australian multi instrumentalist  Xavier Rudd, who returns to ....Falmouth.... on Friday 12th February.

Rudd first came to Cornwall back in 2005 with a sell out show in Newquay, since then he has returned to the county many times, performing at the last SAS Ball and headlining two sell out shows at the Pavilion in Falmouth.

Each time Rudd has given us something new - widely known for his surf roots sound, bare feet and impressive specially designed rack of didgeridoos, Rudd is not afraid to experiment with his music.  His last album “darker shades of blue” brought a much heavier, psychedelic rock sound, with the live performance incorporating a drummer on stage with Rudd, where as earlier albums have featured a more rootsy vibe.

Rudd sings about life, his anger at the lack of respect for the Aboriginal people in his homeland, corporate greed, homelessness and the beauty of nature. Very much in the mould of Ben Harper and John Butler, this high-integrity, low-hype approach to music has spun a vast, grassroots web of support for Rudd.

Currently under bright sunny skies, and surrounded by white sand beaches and rolling turquoise waves Rudd is busy recording his next musical work in 301 Studio’s in Byron Bay Australia.  Putting the finishing touches to new album Koonyum Sun which sees him moving away from the heavier edged sound that he pursued on Dark Shades of Blue, and back to his up beat, hip swaying sound that has been his main stay on previous recordings.

Where ever Rudd goes there is a unifying quality to his music in that it has the ability to reflect an energy that speaks to listeners in a personal way. While touring Europe in the summer of 2008 Xavier had such an experience with some fellow musicians at ....Austria....’s Nuke Festival. South African renowned musicians’ Bassist Tio Moloantoa and Drummer Andile Nqubezelo of the late Lucky Dube’s band.

Tio, Andile and Xavier formed a bond that extended beyond their musical respect for each other. A relationship that like their musical tastes, reflect a passion for unifying culture, sound and understanding. This connection transpired into a new full time line up for Xavier that took to the road in June of 2009 for a tour throughout North America and is now in the studio in ....Byron.. ..Bay.... completing Koonyum Sun.

Tickets are £16.50 and are on sale from Friday 6 November from www.seetickets.com 0871 2200260 or from Pavilion Box Office 01326 211222 or from the Hall For ....Cornwall.... box office 01872 262466 – all subject to booking fee.

As previously announced the incredible Scott Matthews will perform a headline show at the Princess Pavilion in Falmouth on Friday 06 November. We are pleased to announce that support on the night will be Vijay Kishore.

Born and raised in the Handsworth district of Birmingham of Indian parentage singer songwriter Vijay Kishore has quietly been causing something of a stir musically with his ambiguous folk-tinged fusion of his Anglo Asian heritage which has seen favourable comparisons to the likes of the Sufi infused tones of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan to Thom Yorke, Jeff Buckley or even Nina Simone.

Having quit his factory job to pursue his musical ambitions word quickly spread within sections of the A & R community with many in attendance at subsequent shows.

All agreeing that there was a definite talent there but how do we 'market' him? Kishore doesn't easily fit into any of the prescribed boxes.

Since those early fledgling but still breathtaking shows Vijay has gone on to support the likes of Ray Davies, Nizlopi, Sebastien Tellier, Lou Rhodes, Blackbud and Mr Hudson and The Library .Whilst also sharing billing with the likes of Jamie T, Tiny Dancers, Scott Matthews, Eugene Mcguiness, Fink, Laura Izibor, Newton Faulkner and Karima Francis amongst others, winning over new supporters wherever he goes.

...brilliant, brilliant songs. Like a brummie Jeff Buckley singing the words of Nina Simone. Vijay's luscious acoustic folk is as divine as Simon Cowell in a motorway pile-up’. NME

Kishore will be opening for Scott Matthews an artist who should need no introduction. Debut album ‘Passing Stranger’ won him widespread acclaim in Oct 2006 after the three singles from that album were play listed on Radio 1, Radio 2 and XFM.

In 2007, Scott won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically, with his debut single ‘Elusive’ and in 2008, he supported Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, on their ‘Raising Sand’ European tour.

Scott’s new single ‘Fractured’ from the album ‘Elsewhere’ (which features guest vocals from Robert Plant!!) was released earlier this year and again received national airplay.

Scott last played in Cornwall at the Rip Curl Boardmasters alongside Paolo Nutini, Guillemots, Ruarri Joseph and Newton Faulkner.

SW1 Productions are delighted that they managed to secure a date on his forthcoming UK tour.

Local support to be announced.

Tickets are £12.50 in advance from www.seetickets.com 0871 2200260, Pavilion Box Office 01326 211222 or from the Hall for Cornwall box office 01872 262466 – all subject to booking fee. (Unreserved seated show).

The most explosive and unmissible, punk rock and roll show to be seen upon our mellow shores – quite possibly ever - will hit Falmouth’s Princess Pavilion on Wednesday 4 November featuring a line up of Toronto’s Cancer Bats plus support from Exeter’s The Computers and local acts Crocus and Bangers.

Hailed by NME as ‘The best punk rock band in the world’ Cancer Bats are out to destroy. Fuelled by a burning desire to rage harder, play louder and have more fun than any other band, Cancer Bats mix hardcore, southern metal, and punk rock into a lethal rock and roll explosion that will be set off in their own spectacular style at the Princess Pavilion show.

Cancer Bats were last seen in Cornwall in August when they played a very low key show in Newquay as a warm up to the Relentless Boardmasters festival with fellow Canadian hardcore kings Fu**ed Up. It was a night that will go down in history as an ‘I was there’ moment. Those of you that did miss out on witnessing Cancer Bats ‘f** you attitude and D.I.Y mindset that makes punk music what it is’ luckily, now have another chance.

Tipped as one of the hottest up-and-coming bands in the country are Exeter’s The Computers who fuse rock n roll music with hardcore. They explain that this stems from a deep love for bands such as Black Flag, Minor Threat, The Germs as well as The Clash, Chuck Berry and anti rock n roll such as Elvis Costello. After a summer of major festival appearances such as reading & Leeds, they intend to party like it's 1999 (even if it's not)!

Crocus hail from Cornwall and are united by a profound passion for sound and creativity. Crocus represent the rejection of fragmentary opposition. They find common ground in each other’s experiment with life; that of mischievous adventure. ‘In a society that has destroyed all adventure the only adventure is in the destruction of the society’...a punk rock band in layman's terms.

Bangers are a pop rock band from Cornwall. They like to spend most of their time hanging out with girls or Crocus. They reckon they are not ‘crazy dudes’, but they do like to drink alcohol and sew on patches and listen to Propagandhi.

With the collective buzz that is out there on all of these bands we reckon this night will demonstrate that they can all comfortably live up to the hype - this will be a night to remember.

Tickets are £8.00 and are available from www.seetickets.com 0871 2200261, Princess Pavilion Box office 01326 211222 or from the Hall For Cornwall box office 01872 262466 – all subject to booking fees.

Cornwall’s very own indie folk sensation Ruarri Joseph - who has often been likened to such acts as Tom Waits, Cat Stevens and even Dylan - will be playing an extremely special Christmas show at the Acorn Theatre in Penzance on Friday 11 December and  you have a chance to be involved.

Read on...

It has been somewhat of a rollercoaster couple of years for Ruarri. His first album, the critically acclaimed, Atlantic records released, ‘Tales of Grime and Grit’ found him thrust into the lime light for the first time. Hit singles and tours with the likes of Ben Taylor, Paolo Nutini (the latter describing Joseph as ‘The new Cat Stevens’) and even Funeral for a Friend followed.  Though life on a major label was not all he had hoped for…

The quirky young Joseph made a decision that shocked the industry when, in the process of recording his second album with Atlantic, he decided to leave and set up shop on his own terms with his own label PIP.  He scrapped the album that they had been working on and retreated to his shed in Cornwall where he began laboring away on what would later be released as his official second album, the beautifully crafted and also critically acclaimed ‘Both Sides of The Coin’.

The Times described him, ‘As wise as a seventy-year-old Johnny Cash…one of our best new singer-songwriters’.  Q magazine hailed the album as ‘a stroke of genius’.  The album sat in the top 5 of the folk charts for several weeks, national radio jumped on board with Ruarri playing sessions for the likes of Dermot O’Leary, Janice Long, and Stephen Merchant. With a string of sell out shows across the land the New Year had kicked off in style and marked a fresh start for the singer.

However, it was during a lengthy promotional tour that the singer’s inevitable route to success took an unforeseeable and unfortunate swerve when he and his wife received the news that their eldest son was going to have to have surgery to remove a brain tumor he had been diagnosed with some years earlier.

“I was touring around the country, living off coffee and doing radio promos in between cups.  I was one song into my set in ....Oxford.... when I got the phone call from my wife.  When you’re on the road, reality is always at a bit of a distance but I came back down to earth with a pretty nasty thud that day.”

Over the summer of 2009, Ruarri took time to reflect on his musical endeavors to date, and began the process of re-assembling and re-aligning his future.  Through a handful of word of mouth gigs and festival appearances, some of the new material started to emerge and already there are stand out tracks to watch out for as the year ends.  ‘Orchard For and Apple’ and ‘A Fool of Us All’ signal another gear change for the perpetually gifted young man, while the brutally honest ‘Alive at Last’ shows a depth that no other singer songwriter seems able to even pretend to have.

With album number 3 being recorded as we speak the Christmas show will not only be your chance to witness the first airing of some material but you will also have the opportunity to be featured on a live album as this show will be recorded for release of a live album sometime in 2010.

This show promises to be a very special event with guest appearances and perhaps alternative takes on some Ruarri Joseph classics, so expect a hearty sing along and the odd mince pie. This will be a night not to be missed and the perfect way to celebrate what has been somewhat of an eventful year!

Support for this show to be announced.
