Here's the deal: On Friday, six of our bands are playing a Fixture Records Showcase at Pop Montreal. If you're in Montreal, you should come! It's $6, so that's $1 per band. $1 for each hour of musical entertainment. Not bad. Listen to some of the bands playing in this podcast. If you can't be in Montreal for the festival (you're missing out) we've set things up so you can still watch the show! I can say with 94% confidence that we're the only show at Pop Montreal this year that will be BROADCAST LIVE to the internet.
Be a part of future internet history!
In between acts, we'll try to do some exciting interviews and behind-the-scenes coverage. Write us a comment if you have ideas about what we should film.

Our newest album The Halls of Medicine by Omon Ra is now available online in a number of ways. Direct from us: www.fixture-records.comThrough Divorce Distribution: www.divorcerecords.caOn Indyish.com, an independent arts network: www.indyish.comCopies are also for sale in Halifax, N.S. at these stores:Lost and Found 2383 Agricola StreetTaz Records 1593 Market StreetCD Plus 1592 Barrington Street
Since there are several options for how to acquire this CD, we made a list of the order of our preference for how you buy it. It accounts for things like environmental impact and percent of money going to Zach and Dan from Omon Ra. Please choose freely.
1) Go see Omon Ra live and buy a copy from them. They're amazing live and never play the same twice. Here are some videos. 2) Support your local record stores. Pick up a copy from one of three great shops in Halifax (see above list). 3) Order through Divorce Distro. Darcy from Divorce is a great guy and he'll even drive over in his car to deliver you an album if you order a few. There's lots of good stuff in their distro to choose from. 4) Order from the Fixture website. We made every album by hand and we're glad to ship anywhere in the world so you can hear this record. 5) Order from Indyish.com. The owners of this website are our friends and they get a tiny cut from sales that helps support their work building an indie arts community online and in Montreal. We still ship the CD directly to you. 6) I guess burn a copy from a friend who bought one? Point being, you should really listen to this album.
Which brings us to the final exciting point....
We've made previews of every track on the album and put them online so you can hear the CD before you buy it.
Have a listen. We think you'll be pleased.

Thanks to everyone who came to the show and who helped out organizing this fun time.
Omon Ra were great, I love their songs and it was a lot of fun to join in (Alex of Dirty Beaches added perfect ghostly soundscapes and I played drums). The calm intensity of their recorded material is just as present in a live setting, all they need is a couple of guitars and someone banging some pots and they're/ you're in another dimension. Thanks Dan and Zach for making the trip. Have fun in T.O! (Halls of Medicine available for pre-order!)
Also an amazing set from Dirty Beaches (more fantastic with every show) and an arse-kicking good set from Phil Console.
Stay in touch for some photos and videos of the show coming in the near future.
Conor

After a year of playing together in venues around Montreal, friends and Fixture Records labelmates Brave Radar and Dirty Beaches are embarking on their first tour of Ontario. We invite you to join us at their shows: Monday June 30th - Toronto - at Rancho Relaxo with The Miles and 123TenTuesday July 1st - Hamilton - House show, details to come… Wednesday July 2nd - London - at the Alex P. Keaton Tour poster by Conor Prendergast About the bands: Brave Radar independently released their debut full-length album, Distracting Strangers in February 2008. The release garnered excited reviews from Exclaim Magazine and the Montreal Mirror and received radio play on college stations across the country. The trio have played Pop Montreal two years in a row and traveled to Austin, Texas to play SXSW in 2007. In 2007, artist and musician Alex Zhang-Hungtai arrived in Montreal from Hawaii, via Toronto and Shanghai. He began recording new lofi pop songs under the name Dirty Beaches and was quickly called on by Fixture Records to release his first album, Old Blood. After completing this strong experimental album, Dirty Beaches recorded two new works: a download-only Seaside EP (available now from Fixture Records) and a horror-themed LP, scheduled for release in Fall 2008. About the bands:Postcards
This 4-piece combines propulsive drumbeats with darkly still vocals and melodic guitar to craft taut pop songs that haunt and stir. Influenced by the leanness of bands like Beat Happening and the Vaselines, Postcards' self-titled cassette creates a textured landscape best suited to car stereos and bungalow dance parties. www.myspace.com/montrealpostcards
Brave Radar
Brave Radar is Conor Prendergast (Sydney, Australia) and Tessa Smith (Halifax, NS). Distracting Strangers is the first full-length release from this Montreal-based pop duo. With two guitars and kitchen sink drums, they built shambolic ditties that captivate and mess about with a jarring stickiness.

Dirty Beaches
Dirty Beaches is the main recording project of Alex Zhang Hungtai, a lo-fi recording artist and sailor at heart. Born in Taiwan and raised between Toronto and Hawaii, Dirty Beaches' first release, Old Blood reflects an ongoing displacement, empowered by the memory of friends. Recorded with a shoebox tape recorder and ibook G4, Dirty Beaches' baritone melodies wander through shored tape fuzz while delicate fragments jangle under the waves.

À propos des groupes:
Postcards
