The vocal artist who sings "One Time" strums the guitar while singing "Favorite Girl."

Where you already know him from (as referenced by Taylor Swift):

Thursday, March 26, 2009

Once in awhile I like to keep you guys up to date with who I'm keeping an eye on. The artist this time is Lisa Lavie, a singer with one of the most powerful voices I've ever had the chance to hear. I'll post a few of my favorite YouTube vids of her here, but she has tons of others posted on YouTube and she does have a Myspace page if you want to add her.

And her original song, "Angel"

*March 18th, 2009*

As noted on the Home Page (of www.starrsanders.com), I had a blast at
Monster Mania 2009 in Cherry Hill, NJ! I had a table near Merchants of
Menace and Bill Zebub, the one and only director of a plethora of
controversial films (don't tell him I said so, but he is a sweetheart
in person). I was in the same building as Alice Cooper, people! I
couldn't stand in line for his autograph, because I had to man my
table, but still. I met a lot of great people (including but not
limited to the Central Jersey Paranormal Research Organization, Glenn
Tippett of Scare Tactix Graphix, and Edward X. Young, who is a
writer/artist/actor/web designer extraordinaire. This was actually my
first horror convention. I had all sorts of cherries broken that
weekend and I loved it! In addition to being able to sell and sign
books, I held a raffle for a free autographed sequel of your choice (of
either BloodLust or Hidden Treasures). The winner of
this raffle will be announced on this blog and the blog of www.starrsanders.com next week; the winner will
also receive an e-mail. I had a great time! Thanks to those who helped
to make it such a wonderful weekend. Thanks also goes out to my mom,
who accompanied me on the trip. The next stop is in Overland Park, KS,
and I can't wait!

This is a young adult horror novel,
the first chapter of a series. I grew up reading R.L. Stine's "Fear
Street" series, and there aren't enough series like that out there now.

Summary of Hidden Treasures: Switched

Even though Patricia Coben was teased and made fun of for the way she
looked, she was still a happy girl. That is, until a cruel prank was
played on her that made her the laughingstock of the entire school. Her
life became miserable until she found a store that claimed to have all
of the answers. With the help of a new magic shop, she manages to
change her identity by switching bodies with the most popular girl in
school. And her classmates will regret having messed with her, because
when you're pretty, you can get away with murder.

Excerpt from Hidden Treasures: Switched

"Where is my car?" I shouted, to no one in particular.

The little monster of a boy ran in front of me. "Your car is wherever my speedboat is," he said, pointing to his head. "In our dreams."

"You've got to be kidding me," I said, shocked. "I don't even drive a car?"

I didn't think the little snot could muster up an emotion like concern, but he managed to do so. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine," I snapped. "When are we going to get a ride to school?"

"Mom and Dad never give us rides to school," the boy replied. "It would make them late for work."

"You couldn't mean..." I said, without being able to finish the sentence.

"Duh," the boy said, turning his back to me. "We ride the bus."

I could have died. Right then and there, I could have just fallen on the floor and died. How lame could Patty's life really be? I mean, did she really have to ride the bus?

The day didn't get any better. I managed to catch the bus in time - barely. Some of the kids were obnoxious. They called me "Fatty Patty" a couple of times and many of them were talking about what had happened at Homecoming. Of course, no one on this bus had personally gone to the Homecoming Dance. The rumor mill had finally trickled down to them and they were finally catching word about what had happened. It kind of made me proud to hear the kids talking about the Homecoming Dance. After a moment's thought, I had to remind myself that none of this was real. This entire experience was a figment of my imagination, so there was nothing for me to be proud about.

The bus pulled up next to the curb in front of our school. I wasn't seriously going to go through with it. I wasn't seriously going to walk in there as Patty Coben, was I?

I figured I didn't have anything to lose. I mean, as realistic as this dream was, it couldn't be reality. Because in reality, I was Tabatha Andrews and Patty Coben was Patty Coben. Since it was a dream, I had to let it play out. So I got off of that bus. And I walked into our school with my backpack slung over my shoulder. I didn't know where Patty's locker was. I had a general idea of where it was, because I'd seen her at it a couple of times...but I didn't know which locker number was hers.

So instead of stopping by her locket, I decided to stop by mine. I was supposed to meet with my fellow cheerleaders, but since this was a dream, I didn't have to worry about that. Even if I did have to worry about that, I was way too late to meet with them now. And if I did meet with them, it would be in Patty Coben's body. So I just stopped by my locker. Sure enough, Zander was standing there glancing at his watch every few seconds and craning his neck as he looked for me.

I couldn't help but smile. He was such a great boyfriend. I really didn't show my appreciation for him enough. While he talked about our future together, I usually brushed him off and changed the subject, because I'm too young to be thinking about my future with any boy. But I guess I could see a future with Zander.

I don't know what I planned on doing. I definitely couldn't walk up to him and greet him. He'd think that I was Patty. So I started to turn around, until I heard whistles sounding in the hall. The whistles started near the school entrance. Then they seemed to bounce off of the walls and the floor. My curiosity got the better of me. I'm used to the boys whistling at me. Who could they have been whistling at?

I turned around, and it seemed that I was turning around in slow motion. Zander lifted his head too, with an expectant smile on his face. He was used to the whistles that I got whenever I walked into a room. He probably thought that the whistles were for me. Boy, would he be wrong.

At first, I couldn't see who the girl was. I could only see the shape of her, because the sunlight was at her back. I couldn't make out her features. Then, as the school entrance doors swung shut, her features became clearer. The long, dark hair was familiar and so was the outfit that she was wearing.

It was...it was me, but it couldn't be. Because I was Patty Coben.

The logical part of me had to ask, If you're Patty Coben, then who is Patty Coben? Logically, she would be me, right? I mean, it would only make sense.

The girl was looking directly at me with her mouth tugged up at the corner. She winked at me, then turned her attention to Zander. She whispered something in his ear that made him turn red. What is she telling him? I wondered, wishing I was closer so I could hear what she was saying. I was wishing in vain.

She linked her arm with Zander's and they walked together. She hadn't even bothered with my locker. She probably didn't know the locker combination.

I was furious. I was livid. I don't know why. This was just a dream, right? Eventually, I'd wake up and this would all be a figment of my imagination, my just desserts for eating Cherry Garcia ice cream past eleven o' clock at night. But there was something pulling at the back of my mind, some higher awareness that seemed to have implanted itself into my brain. And the higher awareness was whispering to me, But this isn't a dream. This is real.

"All right, all right,” Tina called before the cameras snapped on. “Last week, Oprah’s ratings topped mine. Let’s make sure that it doesn’t happen again, all right?” She turned to face Paige and tossed her hair over her shoulder.

As soon as the cameras started rolling, a plastic smile appeared on Tina’s face. “Hello, everyone, it’s another hour of ‘Primetime Live.’ My first guest is author, Paige Turner, who’s been getting a lot of buzz recently. Paige…why don’t you tell us a little about Open Book?”

“Open Book is a book that shouldn’t even exist, honestly,” Paige responded, glancing at the cameras only once in awhile. It was easier to focus on Tina than it was to focus on the cameras. “I wrote a romance novel that I was supposed to turn in. I had both that novel and my diary typed on disk. The wrong disk was turned in and my diary ended up being published.”

“At what point did you realize that your diary was published?”

“The first stop on my book tour was in Florida. When I saw the book cover, I noticed that the cover didn’t really fit the premise for the romance novel I’d written, so I read the back cover and I seriously came close to fainting.”

“You had to be mortified!” Tina exclaimed, bringing a hand up to her chest.

Paige smiled and nodded. “It was…pretty humiliating. My agent told me that I could have the books pulled off of the shelves and that sounded very appealing to me.”

“So…what convinced you to keep the books on the shelves?” Tina leaned closer to Paige and asked in a stage whisper, “Was it the money?”

“No, Tina, umm…actually it was a woman I met on one of my flights. She told me how much the book helped her, how she felt as if she wasn’t alone in some of the things that she had gone through. At that point, I would have felt guilty taking the books off of the shelves, because I would have been doing that for selfish reasons.”

Tina nodded, her eyes sliding to the teleprompter placed over Paige’s shoulder. “So the content of Open Book…it’s your diary. All of the skeletons you’ve had in your closet, everything wrong you’ve done. All of your dirt is in this book?” She lifted the book from the low, wooden table that stood between the two overstuffed, puke-pink chairs.

“Yeah…all of my dirt is definitely there,” Paige said, dropping her eyes to her lap.

“Now…the tone in your voice changed,” Tina said, sitting up a bit straighter and setting the book on the table. “Could that be because of the rumors flying around that you were recently in a relationship with the teacher you talk about in this book?”

Paige’s mouth dropped open and her eyes widened. She turned towards the studio audience. Because there were microphones suspended several feet above their heads, their gasps were more defined. “I, um…you didn’t prep me for that question,” she said under her breath.

“I mean, Paige…the way I see it, we all know a lot of your dirt anyway, so what’s the point in trying to keep anything concealed, right?” Tina’s smile was sweet enough to cause cavities. She turned to her audience and asked, “We want all the juicy details, right?”

    Her audience backed her up.

Paige grimaced and rubbed at the back of her neck. “That’s a very sensitive topic.”

“We have time,” Tina said with mock-patience.

Paige uncomfortably shifted in her seat. “I, um…”

“You had a crush on your teacher when you were high school, isn’t that correct?”

“I had great admiration for a particular teacher, yes,” Paige clarified.

“We know how you felt. All we have to do is read the book,” Tina said, grinning.

Paige indulged in a five-second fantasy of wiping the grin from Tina’s face. “I developed feelings for him.”

“And at such a young age.” Tina clucked her tongue. “Now, recently, you and he were an item, weren’t you?”

Paige squirmed again. “I really don’t want to-”

“That’s what the rumor mills are saying anyway,” Tina surged on. “Word on the rumor mill is that you and this teacher became an item, but he didn’t know that you used to be his student. He didn’t even know that you were the renowned author, Paige Turner, did he?”

“Where did you get that information?” Paige demanded angrily.

“From reliable sources. Is the information correct?”

    “I-It wasn’t like…it was more like…”

“I also heard that he dumped you once he found out the truth, because he couldn’t deal with dating a former student.”

Paige stood from her seat. “This interview is over,” she said through clenched teeth.

“So you’d rather let everyone get their information from the rumor mills?” Tina taunted, still seated in her chair. “You don’t want the people to hear your version of the story?

“I…” Paige glanced at the audience again. Everyone was on the edge of their seats. They wanted to hear her story. She sighed and took her seat, folding her hands in her lap. “I, umm…I’ve made some mistakes in my life. Not telling him that I used to be his student was one of them. And yes, the rumors are correct. He did dump me after he found out the truth. I’m not angry or resentful for it…I deserved that.”

“There you have it,” Tina said, turning to face the audience. “You’ve gotten the story here first, on ‘Primetime Live.’ Open Book is in stores now. Go out, buy it, and thank God that your life isn’t as horrific as Paige’s.”

For those of you who don't frequent www.starrsanders.com enough, I'll break down the current novels that are available.

1. BloodLust: The Beginning by Starr Sanders

This is the novel that many of you are already familiar with, but I'll include the summary for those who are still in the dark.

Fifteen years ago, Iancu hung up his sword and turned his back on his
own kind. A Native American slayer picks up where he left off, although
she’s haunted by memories of the night her family was slain by evil
incarnates. She has fought and killed every vampire that she has come
across. She’s never made an exception-until now, when she realizes that
the man who saved her life fifteen years ago is a vampire. Vampires are
growing restless. They want to wage war against humans, but first they
must go through Iancu and Charlie.

The sequel for BloodLust will be released late this summer, so those who are sleeping on this book need to get caught up, quick-like!

2. Open Book by Skye Sanders

This is the romance comedy novel that I penned under a pseudonym. I'll also include a summary of this novel.

Romance novelist Paige Turner is having a horrible week. First, her
soap star boyfriend dumps her. As if that was not bad enough, she has
to return to her hometown for her parents’ vow renewal ceremony. When
she returns to her hometown, she bumps into the only man she has ever
loved, who also happens to be her former teacher. She does not tell him
that she used to be a student of his. However, the whole country will
soon know about the crush she had on him, because she accidentally
submits her diary to be published instead of her latest novel.

3. Hidden Treasures: Switched by Shiloh Sanders

This is a young adult horror novel, the first chapter of a series. I grew up reading R.L. Stine's "Fear Street" series, and there aren't enough series like that out there now.

Even though Patricia Coben was teased and made fun of for the way she
looked, she was still a happy girl. That is, until a cruel prank was

life became miserable until she found a store that claimed to have all
of the answers. With the help of a new magic shop, she manages to
change her identity by switching bodies with the most popular girl in
school. And her classmates will regret having messed with her, because
when you're pretty, you can get away with murder.

Discounts are available for most of these books through Amazon. "Open Book" is currently out of stock through Amazon, so they're offering it for $14.00. Barnes and Noble has "Open Book" in stock and is selling it for $16.15. I hope this information helped, and happy reading! Don't forget to stop by to let me know what you think!

All of the copies I'm giving out are signed and will be shipped out by me. Join the show to win a chance at getting a free copy of BloodLust! For those of you who still haven't checked it out, you will be SO behind when the sequel hits stores this fall!

Here is the link for the online chatroom. When you click on the link after the show starts, a chatroom also opens up if you don't have a way of calling into the show.

I'm just dropping by to update everyone on what has been going on with me since it has been nearly a month since I've blogged. I've been hard at work, editing the sequel to BloodLust: The Beginning. The sequel is titled BloodLust: Resurrection and is due for release this fall. I figured that I'd kept you guys waiting long enough. The editing process is pretty grueling; not only do I have to check the sequel for typos and grammatical errors, but also for consistency. I've read the first novel several times already, throughout the editing process for the sequel. I can't wait for you guys to read it! If you loved BloodLust: The Beginning, you will absolutely adore BloodLust: Resurrection. Don't worry - I will keep you guys posted on everything to do with the release of the sequel.

When I'm not editing the BloodLust sequel, I am hard at work making sure to lay the groundwork for the promotion of Open Book, the debut romance comedy from my first pseudonym: Skye Sanders. I've recently discovered that this novel, which is slated for a March 2009 release, has advance copies for sale at:
Buy Books on the Web. *jumps up and down and shouts to the world*

lol...Sorry, had to get that out. I'm excited to have copies of Open Book available to my readers. There are many of you who have been hounding me for copies of this book, and the only copies I had were a few proof copies. Your wait is finally over!

I have finally made it possible for readers to purchase copies of BloodLust: The Beginning directly from my site with the assistance of a PayPal "Buy Now" button. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can send me an inquiry via the "Contact" page, and send payment to me via snail mail.

I am reviewing convention and touring information to see which events I would like to attend this year. I'm excited to meet some of my readers and other industry professionals. I don't even think the word "excited" fully captures how I feel. I think "stoked" is more appropriate. I have to get back to work. The last tidbit I have for you guys is that once the BloodLust sequel is released, I have two young adult novels that are soon to follow before the year of 2009 is finished. This year I will be a very, very busy lady! But remember that I always have time for you guys. I have made updates to my website: www.starrsanders.com. Don't forget to leave me guestbook comments! I love checking those. Love you guys!

I was pretty stubborn with the website thing, but I asked everyone for their advice and the masses have spoken. I believe it was about a week ago that I asked whether or not I should get a website. Here we are, approximately a week later, and that website has been delivered. There are still some more updates that I need to add, including a "Buy Now" button so that the book can be purchased directly from me (each copy would be autographed).

I'm not a fan of boring sites, so I tried to include a few goodies in there. Wherever you see a music "Play" button, different tunes are placed throughout the site. I hope you guys enjoy it! I actually had fun creating it!

*hugs*
