Going without Medical, Dental, and Vision Care is NOT FUNNY.

It is not just a "political" issue.

It is REAL and it affects REAL PEOPLE!

And not just kids, not just old people, or people who are already receiving Disability.

There is a very important group of people going without health care in the US.

This group is that section of the population 18-65 years old, who have no minor children, and who are not receiving Social Security Disability checks, who are sick and are unable to work.

Receiving Disability is a very long and convoluted process which can take as long as four years. During this time, people have NO INCOME, and have to do WITHOUT Health Care and their Medications! They are too sick to work, and ALSO have to do without any income whatsoever, which means they can't pay their rent nor their utilities.

Constituents of first Congressional district in Kentucky want to send a message to Congressman Ed Whitfield that we demand comprehensive healthcare reform. Lobbyists are already lining up to protect 'for-profit' interests. We must act now to make our voices heard so that the American people will shape healthcare reform, not politicians and special interests.

Dear Mr. Whitfield;

I am once AGAIN writing to you to express my EXTREME and URGENT DEMAND that you endorse HR 676 Medicare For All. There is NO possible excuse that our Congress is continuing to support Health Insurance Company Lobbyists instead of the American People! You were elected to represent US, not the lobbyists!

I am 52 yrs old, single, with no children. I am extremely ill with COPD and several other health problems. I am so sick that I can not get from one room to the next. I am way too sick to possibly work at all. I have no health care insurance, because I do not have a job, for one thing, and for another, KY employers are not obligated to offer insurance anyway, so even if you work, you probably don't have health care insurance.

Doctors will not accept you as a patient if you have no insurance. And there is no way a single, adult with no minor children, and who is not on Disability can receive any help from ANYWHERE to receive basic medical, dental, or vision care. There is no way to get Medicaid, Medicare, or anything else. You just have to do without medical, dental, and vision care.

And right now I am doing without medical, dental, and vision care - and I am also doing without ALL of my medications because I have no money to buy them. These are medications that I need to take or I can die. Just that simple. But I am not allowed to have them - because YOU will not do your job!!!!

No doctor will take me because I have no insurance and no money to pay them.
I can not afford any more emergency room bills. (Way over $100,000 - and I have NO INCOME AT ALL WHATSOEVER NOT EVEN A PENNY!!!) Even if a doctor would take me, I can not afford to buy ANY of my medications. I am doing without ALL of my medicine I am doing without medical treatment for my life-threatening illnesses.

I am unable to work due to being so ill. I have no income whatsoever I can not pay my electricity/heat nor my water bills, so I am doing without all my utilities for months on end now. This means I am freezing to death. With my severe respiratory illness!! Does anybody care? No, they do NOT!

My only income is food stamps. Doing without heat is exacerbating my respiratory problems - my lungs fill up with fluid continually and I am afraid I will drown in it and die in my sleep.

And don't say anything about Social Security Disability! I applied for it before: I was told in the Soc. Security hearing that they "agreed I was totally disabled and there was no job I could do" in the year 2005. But they refused to let me have Disability because I was trying to work 2 hrs a day so I would not starve.
I recently applied for Disability again, about a month ago. But it might take up to 3 years to get a decision (WHY does it take so long????)

Last time I applied it was over 2 1/2 years before I even got a hearing, and 2 months more to get the decision!!!) What are people who are sick and starving to death supposed to DO all that time? DIE??????

The big problem is that if you have no regular doctor to do all the necessary diagnostic tests and to properly diagnose and treat your illness, then you are not very likely to get your Disability. But how are you supposed to get a Doctor if you have no money nor any insurance???

Don't tell me to go to the Emergency Room. Aside from racking up thousands of dollars in bills I can't pay, they will only treat your present symptoms and send you home. They will NOT prescribe your medications that you are supposed to be on daily. They will tell you to see your regular doctor for that... But how do you get a regular doctor with no insurance and no money??? It is impossible!

 Also, I have 4 teeth broken off at the gums. I can not get them fixed, even though it causes EXTREME pain, because, again, I have no insurance, and no money. So I have to just sit here and suffer while my teeth rot out of my head.

And then, too, my vision is 20/4800!! I am legally blind and need glasses. I can not have glasses either, because of no insurance and no money.

It is high time that you started listening to your constituents.

We DON"T NEED you to pass laws making insurance rates a little cheaper! We DON'T NEED you to offer a bigger selection of insurance companies. We DON"T WANT you to keep stroking the big health insurance companies.

WE WANT YOU TO CO-SPONSOR HR 676 AND MAKE IT POSSIBLE FOR ALL KENTUCKY RESIDENTS REGARDLESS OF AGE TO RECEIVE HEALTH CARE, DENTAL CARE, AND VISION CARE, REGARDLESS OF EMPLOYMENT STATUS, AND BASED ON INCOME. THIS MEANS MAKING MEDICAID AVAILABLE TO EVERYONE WHO NEEDS IT! NOT JUST YOUNG PEOPLE WITH KIDS, AND OLD PEOPLE, OR PEOPLE ON DISABILITY!!!

There is no excuse whatsoever for this failure on the part of Congress to let EVERY AMERICAN HAVE HEALTH, DENTAL, and VISION CARE!!!

 We are TIRED of paying for wars, weapons, senseless interventions in other countries, "rescuing" banks and financial institutions who are just ripping us all off anyway, and all the other wasteful spending done by the Federal Government, which is passing Unconstitutional laws anyway

It would make a good movie at the very least, wouldn't it?
 
We get a catastrophic ice storm on Jan. 26 that disables our whole state's power
system, landline phones, all our cellphone towers, our cable, internet, our water
delivery system, shuts down literally everything, including all our radio and tv
stations - and causes our state to be declared a "Major Disaster Area", requiring
over 7,000 restoration workers, FEMA, and DHS. Our governor called out our
entire state's National Air and Army National Guard - I got to have National
Guard soldiers on my doorstep a few days ago.
 
I still have about 5 feet of broken trees and limbs piled up all over my back yard,
probably 12 trailer loads full of broken branches... there's no way I can pick
them up myself.
 
Plus I have been sick for 5 weeks with head and body aches, sore throat,
swollen glands, fever, bad cough, congestion, and breathing trouble - I've been
doing about 5-6 nebulizer treatments a day and I have had no voice for 2 weeks
now...  Not good...

This would have been enough to ruin anyone's week!

Then the FEMA meals they gave me turn out to have RECALLED PEANUT
BUTTER CONTAMINATED WITH SALMONELLA in them!!!

Add to everything else the mugging of a few days ago, where they stole
my water bill money and I had to spend 3 hrs at the police station filling out
statements and identifying perpetrators - did I forget to tell you I had to walk
home cuz the police didn't have time to give me a ride home? - only about 5 1/2
miles with my sick self...

And then, on top of all of the above, my puppy Annie ate doggy treats with
peanut butter in them, and is deathly sick; I am presently giving her Pepto-Bismol
and Pedialyte every one hour, along with Reglan - she has been vomiting for the
3rd day in a row now, due to eating Field Trial Dog Biscuits contaminated with
Salmonella.....

I took her to the vet today. He did not even do a fecal on her, nor give her an
antibiotic like I thought he should... When he first saw her he said she needed to
be on IV's immediately. When I told him I had no money, he told me to keep
doing what I was doing at home and gave her some more Reglan.

Puppy continues to vomit her poor little heart out, my poor little baby - it is
breaking my heart. I am struggling with all I've got to save her life right now...

I hate to ask:

Clearing Up Misconceptions About

Martial Law in Kentucky...

I have been seeing lots of MySpace bulletins proclaiming that Kentucky is under
"Martial Law" and that this is a practice run for the "coming Martial Law in the
US".  I don't know what all these rumor-mongerers are trying to infer here.  That
all of us poor people here in KY are at the point of a gun and can't leave our
houses or something?

Now, don't go wild here, people!  And don't believe this trash.

I live in Paducah, KY, which was the hardest hit by the ice storm.  Our
Governor, Steve Beshear, and Pres. Obama acted immediately to declare this an
emergency this last Wednesday, as fast as could possibly have been done, which
loosened up millions of dollars so our state and locals could start working
immediately on clearing debris from the roadways and rebuilding power lines,
restoring water, etc.

The 4600 National Army and Air Guards which are in KY are only from KY,
NOT from other states.  (These are OUR guys!! And they themselves and their
families at home are going through the same things all the rest of us are!)  The
only thing they are doing is passing out food and bottled water, kerosene,
blankets, etc, at distribution centers, and providing transportation to the shelters if
needed.  Some are also helping with cleaning up the roadways. Also, they are
going door to door to make sure everyone is all right.

The National Guard are telling us to put notes on our doors if we are ok and
have no emergency so they won't have to waste time knocking. They were at my
house yesterday in the morning.  The "mean ol' soldier" who knocked on my
door was a very friendly young lady soldier who asked me if I had heat and
water and if I needed any help, and asked me if my neighbors were all ok. She
was very sweet. Then they left to go check on more people.  They were NOT
carrying guns, and were NOT threatening in the slightest.

There is NO "martial law" here. There WERE curfews until yesterday - the local
Sheriff Dept. did not want people out on the roads driving after dark because the
roads were not safe. This was only good sense because of the dangerous
conditions of the roads. But if you were out trying to get food or supplies, taking
someone to a shelter, going to the hospital, or other emergency, it was ok. The
reason they had the curfew at all, was because there were trees down all over in
the roads, and power lines everywhere in the roads. There are STILL trees
down and power lines down all over.

We are NOT under martial law!!! You don't even see any national guard people
- only if they knock that once on your door, and at the distribution centers.
FEMA officials are also here, but not in any contact with citizens. They are
working as assessors/consultants to our state and local officials, helping them in
the power and water restoration efforts. They have also set up mobile
communications stations so that officials across our state can keep in contact with
each other, necessary because of landlines and cellphone towers being down all
across the state.  They brought in big generators and pumps to get our hospitals,
nursing homes, etc, - all those sorts of critical places - powered up and the
water pumping at the water stations.  (250 tons of equipment have been
delivered into Kentucky!)  And they are bringing in MRE's (food), bottled water,
gas, kerosene, blankets, and cots.

We are NOT, repeat NOT!! under Martial Law!

Our governor and all our state, local, and power, phone, water, and cable
officials are working 24 hrs a day to clean up this horrendous mess and get us all
warm and safe and back up and running again. We presently have over 5,000
restoration workers on the ground in the state of Kentucky working on repairing
the power lines! 

If you were not here and did not live through this, then you don't understand how
bad this storm really was!  It knocked down thousands of power poles, all our
power lines, our landline phones, our cell phone towers, our cable, knocked out
everything!  Over 8,000 poles were down across the state.  77 counties in
Kentucky have been declared a Disaster Area.  All of Kentucky was without
power, with no phones, and unable to travel because of the sheets of ice on the
roads and because of trees and power lines down in the roads.  State and
Federal officials had real difficulty communicating with each other and in travelling
due to the impassable condition of the roads, so there was some delay in getting
the restoration process going at first.

Our governor is doing a WONDERFUL job of coordinating the work of
restoring our infrastructure, and also a great job of keeping us all safe - providing
food, kerosene, water, and also making sure there are warming shelters all over
the place and places for people to go eat. The people in this area are all helping
each other, and doing whatever they can to help those who need it. Our local
churches and charities are providing shelters, warming centers, food, water,
blankets, heaters, etc.

KY State Food Stamps (EBT) have been issued early and immediately to those
who are on food stamps.  Also, the state is giving an additional reimbursement of
immediate, EXTRA food stamps to replace the food that was lost!  People are
getting double food stamps this month, and getting them EARLY!!

Don't worry, everything is being done as it should be here in Kentucky. This is
NO Katrina situation here!  We are VERY fortunate to have a governor like
Steve Beshear who cares about Kentuckians and their independence and
resourcefulness, and who believes in minimal interference from the Feds.

Trust me on this one, we are all doing fine.

The casualties from this storm are mostly all from people who would not listen to
warnings about using kerosene and propane heaters in closed spaces with no
ventilation, or who would not take the advice provided about the proper use and
installation of generators, and who succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning as
a result.  This is a tragedy, but it is not the fault of our governor, nor of anyone
but the people themselves.

Believe me. If things were messed up here, you should all know me well enough
by now to know that I would SAY SO!  I'm the first one to jump up and down
and scream "foul" when something is wrong!

So, don't worry.  Our state is handling this disaster adroitly, and as correctly as
possible in the circumstances which we have been in. Our governor is holding the
Feds at arm's length and our National Guard troops are as friendly and helpful as
boy scouts!  Our Sheriff is being as non-intrusive and useful as possible and
handling things intelligently.  In fact, my respects and thanks to all of them! They
have been working 24 hrs a day at cleaning up this mess and getting us going
again, and doing a fantastic job considering what they had to work with.

I don't know where people are getting all this misinformation from - just goes to
show how rumors are...  The people spreading all this about the FEMA Martial
Law crap have no clue what is really happening in Kentucky, they've probably
never even been here...

All this Alex Jones style fantasmagoria is just that, fantasy - and not the littlest bit
based on truth!

It seems that once people got started on 9/11, George Bush, and the Illuminati,
they can't seem to stop themselves from seeing "boogeymen" everywhere!  They
can't stop finding monsters under all the beds...  They have really taken off on
Obama and about this ice storm.  Especially Obama - and without reason;  as far
as I can see, he is doing a good job.  (And I am his worst critic!)

Now they are trying to turn our "Shredder" Ice Storm into a field for screaming
"Martial Law" and "Obama Incompetence".  Trust me, nothing is farther from the
truth.

Guys, I know there is a lot of wrong out there and a lot of crooks doing lots of
wrong things, too.  You know very well that I am the first one to complain about
things that are not right.  Be sure that what you are reading is the truth and that
you are reposting the truth.  Don't just take for granted that something is "truth"
just because a "truther" told you so!  Investigate things further and get the real
truth.  Not everyone is crooked and not every situation is laden with conspiracy
fodder!

As you probably all know or have heard by now, the entire state of Kentucky
was hit very hard by an EXTREME CATASTROPHIC ICE STORM, which
started the evening of January 26 and got incredibly worse over the evening
hours of the following day, Tuesday, January 27. On Wednesday, January 28,
we woke up to a catastrophe.

(In case you are wondering, I am fine, my house is fine, and this is hard for me
to comprehend, because my yard is entirely covered by fallen trees and limbs -
about 8 trailer loads full! I live in a woods and every single tree is down or parts
of it are down. I have large tree branches on top of my roof and wedged against
the sides of my house and my telephone line was severed by a large downed
tree... I almost needed a chainsaw to get out of my house Wednesday morning,
and I have a huge tree branch hanging down in front of my door! )

I live in Western KY, which is the area hardest hit by the ice storm. We had
freezing rain Monday night, which was bad enough - then Tuesday night we had
more, which is what caused all the problems. The weight of the ice on the trees
and power lines was just too much!  On Wednesday morning we woke up to
trees down everywhere! Basically every single tree and every power line in
Western Ky was DOWN!!!

Our governor was in immediate contact with Pres. Obama and Obama acted
amazingly swiftly in signing a Declaration of State of Emergency and giving
IMMEDIATE financial assistance for the state of Kentucky THAT VERY
SAME DAY AS SOON AS OUR GOV. BESHEAR CONTACTED HIM!!
(REPEAT: IMMEDIATELY!!)

FEMA officials arrived here that very same day to act as consultants and
coordinators, to assess the damage and help with what needs to be done to
restore things to normal. They are using Fort Campbell Army Base as their
headquarters for this state. The National Guard Armory here near the airport is
being used as one of the many shelters. There are over 600 people sheltering
there alone...

Major power lines were and are still down, which left all of KY with no power.
This caused problems with water too, because there was no power to run the
pumps at the pumping stations. All the bridges and roadways were covered with
fallen trees, limbs, and sheets of ice. Transportation and communication of any
sort was completely impossible for 2 days.

Our local officials and power companies acted IMMEDIATELY to begin work
repairing the downed lines and 2/3 of us now have power in the Paducah, KY
area. Most of us had power restored by Friday. Most have water. We have
phones, internet, and cable tv services back since Friday.

EVERYTHING, including all landlines and cell phone towers was down, cable tv
gone, and no radio stations. We now have one radio station which is on the air
on a limited basis from 7am to 9pm with no commercials and serving as a media
for community announcements.

This county (McCracken County) was operating under a daylight only curfew,
which is fine, because the roadways are just NOT SAFE to be on during the
dark because of all the downed trees and power lines in the roads and streets.
(This curfew was lifted yesterday morning)

There are many back roads that they have not been able to get to yet, although
the main roadways are now clear. The responses by local, state, and federal
entities have all been SUPERB!

We have our state's ENTIRE National Guard posted around the state to perform
cleanup on our roadways, check on the safety of residents, and at food and
water distribution centers.  We have the Sheriff Dept. monitoring food, gas and
supplies sources. This is due to many physical fights happening in the lines at
these places, people fighting over gas and supplies, taking time away from our
local officials and from their real work in this disaster.

Mostly all businesses were closed down. Only a few grocery stores, several gas
stations, a couple of banks on limited hours, and some hardware and farm supply
stores are open, and are doing a very good job getting supplies into the area and
making them available. (a difficult feat, considering that the roadways were all
impassable and considering the vast quantities of gas, generators, chainsaws,
kerosene, propane gas, batteries, heaters, etc, that have been required!

We are going through about 1500-2000 generators a day - it's hard finding all
those generators and getting them here so fast, but they are doing a GREAT
job of it!) The businesses that are open and making supplies available can only
take cash or checks because the card systems are down. We had problems
pumping gas the first few days due to the power outages.

Warming stations and shelters are set up all over the place, many of them, and
everyone is being taken care of, thanks to local charities, the Red Cross, and the
National Guard.

FEMA took care of bringing in big generators to get power going at our
hospitals, nursing homes, and other critical placers, and brought in big pumps to
help pump water and get the water going. FEMA also brought in food, kerosene,
blankets, cots, and bottled water. They are working with our local officials
assessing the damages and our infrastructures. There are scores of helicopters up
above looking at all the main power lines and the railways for damage.

The power and phone companies continue to work 24 hrs a day to restore
power and water to all, fixing downed lines and breaks in water mains, downed
telephone lines, etc. They have done an incredible job. (We presently have over
5,000 workers on the ground repairing power lines in the state of Kentucky!)

All this crap about Obama not doing his job that I have seen all over the internet,
and about FEMA not responding, it is all a bunch of crap!

Obama acted IMMEDIATELY to declare this a disaster area, to send FEMA
IMMEDIATELY, and to IMMEDIATELY release funds for our state and
counties to continue the repairing of our infrastructures. He did this THE VERY
SAME DAY AND AT THE VERY SAME MOMENT THAT OUR
GOVERNOR SPOKE TO HIM ON WEDNESDAY!!!

So quit spreading lies about Obama and about our governor, if you are doing
this. I live here and I know better...  Believe me! I would be the FIRST to
complain if this were not true!

This storm completely knocked our whole state, and especially my area,
Western Kentucky, out of service for a few days. But, thankfully, our local
officials together with state and federal people, have handled this incredible
disaster with amazing aplomb and efficiency.

This, together with the wonderful resourcefulness and toughness of Kentuckians
working together, is getting the job DONE!

There is no doubt!  Kentucky people are tough and can "get 'er done"!  People
here are very good at helping each other and looking out for each other, and that
is our strength!

I am very PROUD of my local officials, my governor Steve Beshear for his
prompt actions, of President Obama, of our local charities, and yes, even of
FEMA, for acting so swiftly and efficiently and making this disaster easier on
everyone!  They have worked extremely hard and have done a wonderful job.

You need to realize that almost ALL of our power lines were DOWN!  All the
telephone towers and cable infrastructures were DOWN!  We had NO
communication at all for a couple of days. No way of getting ahold of each other
all over the state! And freezing weather! ALL of our roads and highways were
blocked and/or impassable by either fallen trees and branches or by the sheets of
ice which covered everything.

Kentucky is digging its way out of this! 

Now...

Let me remind you all about the importance of DISASTER PREPAREDNESS!

Lucky for me:

I have a kerosene heater, and had some kerosene on hand so I did not freeze to
death!
I have flashlights and lots of batteries
I have a battery-powered radio
I have candles
I have a big supply of canned and non-perishable food I have receptacles to
store water in and bleach to keep it sterile
I have plenty of blankets
Salt for the ice
A big supply of toilet paper! LOL
Etc, etc.

Just a word to the wise:

You never know when you will need to be prepared to survive in a situation
where you will have no electricity, no water, no phones, no internet, no food, no
gas, etc....

Do you think we expected this? We had a matter of a couple of hours to prepare.

It is being reposted without a link back to the original blog post where it was found.

One of the reposters apologized, even though he was not the original poster of this bulletin, so therefore, he was not responsible.  Someone named "Lesabelle" made this comment on his bulletin HERE :

(First of all, I am not a "guy".  Secondly, I am happy the information is getting circulated, but you still need to follow internet copyright law.  So "wtf" yourself!)

If someone else wrote something, and if you repost it (ie, republish it!), then you need to adhere to Fair Use Laws, and provide proper credit and a link back to the original source!

It is correct etiquette when reposting someone else's work, to include the credit and a link back. I'm not mad. I want the info out there very badly, just like you do.

As far as videos, if they come supplied with an "embed code", then they are meant to be reposted. As far as somebody else's blog article, that is a different story.

The difference between a MySpace bulletin and a blog article is that when you repost a bulletin, it automatically includes a link to the original poster.  (or it is supposed to, anyway - it has not worked for a while, so we have to do it manually!)  Blogs do not automatically include the link back to the author.   

Anytime you are using somebody else's work, you should indicate this by including a credit to the author and a link back to the original source.

In fact, this is not just etiquette, it is the law!

Don't just go grabbing other peoples' work off the internet or anywhere else willy-nilly and republishing it as your own. You can get in trouble for this...

OK?  Be nice!

Always include proper credit and a link to the original!  And repost away to your heart's content!

(If YOU wrote a "masterpiece" you would want a link back, wouldn't you!)

Fair Use laws allow for the reproduction of materials for the purpose of educational, political, scientific, etc. furthering of knowledge and learning, when the materials are properly credited to their source.  But be sure to include the reference to the source!  Or you could be in danger of being in infringement of Copyright Laws!

I have among my friends a guy who posts other peoples' entire blogs and bulletins as his own work on his blogs!  I am not going to say his name - he knows who he is. He needs to stop this.  Or he can continue to do it, but he must include a link back to the source.

What a breath of fresh air to listen to someone speak intelligently...

Just saying...

On Oct. 12th I left an abusive employer to move back into my trailer, which has been sitting abandoned for almost 3 years. I had been working for this guy, an alcoholic with advanced cirrhosis and dementia for over 6 years. He had gotten so he was physically abusive, extremely demented, and would no longer pay me. This is why I moved back into my trailer, even though I have no money, and there is no electricity, water, nor phone at the trailer. I have been there since Oct. 12th in these conditions.

I let someone use my car on Oct. 19th because they were going to give me $20 so I could buy some food. They took off in my car and stole it. I got a letter yesterday morning saying the car was towed and impounded by the police in Michigan City, Indiana. There is no way I can even GET to Michigan City, Indiana ( I live in the farthest southwest corner of Kentucky), much less pay the $305 bill already built up (plus $30 a day added to this for storage for every additional day the car is there.) Also, they tore up the steering column and the ignition switch and broke the gear shift off so the car can not even be driven and needs major repairs. It would have to be towed back on a flatbed. That's $60 a day from UHaul. It would appear that I have lost my car, because there is no way I can get it back. I have no money whatsoever.

The gist of this is that I desperately need help from someone because I need to get my lights and water turned on. I need $700 to do this. I will need to replace the car. I can get another for $800 down. I have nothing to eat - I have not been able to shower for over a week. 

I am trying to survive through this no electricity/no water/no phone situation until I can get back to work again and try to pull myself back up.  But right now I  have no food and no money and I need  help desperately.  I have tried everything and everywhere.  It has been freezing cold here at night.

If you can help by sending anything - ANYTHING! so I can buy food and somehow get through this alive, PLEASE HELP ME!  I am ready to just give up.

Please DON"T tell me to contact my local charities and shelters.  I have been everywhere already.  The shelter here has a 3 month waiting list and will not allow my little dog which I am NOT GETTING RID OF! (and NO she is NOT going to a shelter!  SHE STAYS WITH ME NO MATTER WHAT!!!)

The charities here HAVE NO FUNDS WHATSOEVER. It is useless to go to them. I have been there.

There are no jobs. I have been walking about 20-25 miles each day looking for jobs. There are none.

I don't know what to do anymore. I can't do anything to help myself. I need just a little help with food and necessities until I can find another job and get back on my feet again.


This is not a joke, this is real - I am BEGGING for help.
PLEASE HELP Me!  I don't know where else to go anymore.
