Current mood:  accomplished
Today to be honest, this lack of diversity has made hip-hop very very very stale. Everyone has become a clone of whatever trend is currently clocking dollars. But whose fault is that? Is it the labels? Is it the artist? Are the fans to blame? Lets examine.

50 cent might be the last of a dying breed. He has risen through the ranks of becoming a full superstar in music. He came from meager beginnings as a mixtape rapper from Queens who got gunned up and clapped quick. But what made 50 cent different was that he introduced the mixtape game to the mainstream. He made the demo tape extinct. Since the rise of G Unit, everyone and their mothers have done mixtape in order to copy that success which as over saturated the game with clones.

But why are artist copying one another? I remember back in the day, you couldnt come out bitting another nigga's lyrics or steez (yall remember that word?) or else you get clowned off the stage. But now the game has flipped and if you're following the current trend, you're geting clowned. Everyone using that gotdamn Autotune so much, Roger from Roger and Zapp (think computer love folks) is spinning in his grave.

The labels also make it hard for new acts to be original and new. I remember when Labels are A&Rs and Artist Development departments that helped groomed artist to be successful. Now you must come with ya own package or copy whats hot or no deal for that ass. Especially now since we are all downloading by the giga-byte, the labels are trying to make hip-hop as formulaic as possible. They are signing cats not even to record deals, they got ringtone deals. THE FUCK IS THAT?

In closing, hip-hop is dying from the lack of new and fresh emcees. But Urban, what about Drake and Kid Cudi and all of em? Oh dont worry Ima holla at them on the next blog.

Epilogue:

I apologize for like the 2 years I havent posted a blog on this here. I have been busy running my own radio show for underground artist (onblastradio.com) making beats for Ralphy Boy, Zone Rebel, MizLoonar, Enormous, Fullgrown, Xperience J and other artist. I also been attending IAR for my audio engineering degree. While wearing all these hats, I hope to come closer to being able to be a force in music. But IM BACK ON MY BLOG SHIT!! So check for updates regularly.

THINK HIP HOP

Monday, August 20, 2007

Today alot of rappers, especially the old heads from the great era in the 80s and the great follow up of the 90s, say that hip-hop is dead. But why is that? In this series of blogs, I attempt to dicipher and dissect why people would think hip-hop is dead...

The Inspiration:

My close friend and partner in the Duff-set: DJ Man At Arms once told me that he heard somewhere that 70% of people listening to hip-hop arent inspired by hip-hop like previous generations.  Folks, thats a scary thought. Music is progressive, never regressive, unless its starving on its own stale biscuits if you will. Before when Nas, Wu Tang, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube and countless others were up and coming artist, they drew inspiration from some of their favorite MCs they grew up with. They were fans of hip-hop FIRST before they became the artist of hip-hop. Now-a-days, alot of these new comers are only fans of what hip-hop can bring them: cars, coochie, clothes and cee notes (money fools). Me personally, I get inspired when I hear a new song by Nas or Common, or new beats from Madlib and J Dilla (RIP). These artist inspire me to make the beats I make and try to elevate the culture. This generation is nothing but the same stale copy cat mothafuckas rapping about same the shit, drugs, guns and boning ya girl. Mind you, some great artist rhyme about the same shit (looking at you Jadakiss, Joe Buddens, Stack Bundles (RIP) and MOP) but the big difference is, THESE NIGGAS ARE CREATIVE WITH IT. They dont just write simple ass rhymes about the shit, they make it sound interesting. And thats what is missing from the new hip-hop, effort and creativity.

So in short, if you're a new rapper, and you song sounds like something that already being played on the radio, just go back craig's list and look for a job. Dont fuck up this rap shit son. This rap shit is real son. Its real bitch. Its from the gut man. Dont just do it just cuz it gets you pussy and 15 seconds of fame. You're wasting ya time.
