We've hosted 3 Ukulele Jamborees now in Rotterdam. The last edition held on November the 8th was amazing. Started off kind of scary though. The Ukulele Intervention is supposed to start at 8:30 and at 8:15 there were about 6 people there including the Cafe personnel, a TV Camerman with a reporter and a newspaper reporter & photographer...Yikes! Nearly gave me a heart attack. But, we waited another 15 minutes and many ukulele players arrived! And actually, i think it was the busiest Ukulele Jamboree ever. Lots of new fun folks turned up! Clever folk too...during the workshop we were amazed at how quickly everybody caught on. Ater the Intervention, Frederic Henry gave us a lovely performance. He is a very charming player. Has a really unique style and performs all of his own original compositions. Very very nice indeed. We also had a surprise guest... Bram! (He's the dude in the very handsome shirt with the playing cards on it) Bram has been playing the ukulele for all of 2 1/2 weeks now, and he played and sang us this great song about his dog. I loved it...do it again Bram! Marko & i also did a set and had Frederic join us for the last three tunes...and you know what, we weren't half bad if i may say so myself. Most importantly the audience and participants were great fun. Thanks Ukulele Friends! We look forward to seeing you at the next Jamboree on December the 13th! We made the front page news baby! This is a shot of us joining Bosko & Honey during the saturday night concert. We had an amazing time at the European Ukulele Festival. It was incredibly well organized. Thanks to Rigk Sauer and everyone who made it happen. Highlights were joining Bosko & Honey on stage, the performances, which were all outstanding, but i especially enjoyed Coconami, Gaetano Cappa & The Hot Potato Syncopators. Our performance at the market on Sunday was so lovely. Beautiful town square, sun shining...just perfect. The best thing about the festival though was the people. (Man, them ukulele peoples are wacky in the most beautiful way!) Hello to all of you and we look forward to seeing you all again! Last night we were rehearsing our 'Safari Song' with Bosko & Honey. Marko's Mom & Dad were there and after a short phone call by Bertus...Roland Vonk was there too! He has a wonderful radio program on Sunday mornings called 'Archief Rijnmond'. So, he unpacked some recording equipment and got our Safari Song on tape. Apparently, it will be broadcasted this Sunday, the 10th of August at 11am! A Very Big THANK YOU to Mr. Vonk! To listen, go to Radio Rijnmond and then click on the button on the right hand side that says 'Listen Live'. Roland Vonk. Vonkadelic! Recording for Mr. Vonk.

Bosko & Honey's Ukulele Safari hit Rotterdam last Saturday Night at Cafe de Bel and Good Golly! What a wonderful night it was. The cafe was packed. There were even people standing outside that climbed on the window ledge to see & hear what was going on. Bosko began by telling the audience about their ukulele travels which have criss-crossed the globe since February. With a beamer he also showed really wonderful photographs of their ukulele adventures during the Safari. And then, the music started...
They played so incredibly beautifully together. What style, just gorgeous. It just grabs you from the very beginning. Everyone was really drawn into them, you could feel it. And how couldn't you be. Besides being incredible musicians, they're so charming. Honey is so cute i could pinch her nose off! And their presentation is really tops. The show continued with music and interludes of wonderful photographs and stories about their Safari.
After the show we all hung out and meeted and greeted and made friends. It was just the perfect night. It was the first time that Cafe de Bel has had a musical performance since the cafe was taken over by it's new owners, Tiek & Bert, who, by the way are pretty super themselves. They've turned the cafe into a wonderful place. It was very fitting that they started out with such a world class performance. Thanks very much to both of them and Romano, Jerry and the rest of the gang that make De Bel such a great place to be.
Oh wait, there was one thing that didn't go well...me. Marko & I were supposed to do a short opening performance but i've had a bad ear infection and have temporarily (i hope) lost part of my hearing. But, it doesn't matter. I'll surely recover and Bosko & Honey were just fine on their own anyway. We'll be there next month to put on a show.
Bosko & Honey are still here staying with us and we're having a wonderful time. We're working on an amazing Safari Song together! I'll be posting more about our adventures shortly. Stay Tuned!

We, The Uke Box, just got back from the Ukulele Trip of a lifetime! We traveled to New York, Boston and Cape Cod to participate in the Ukulele Caravan and most importantly play at Craig Robertsons' CD Release Party "Houdini's Perspective"! held in Shirley, Massachusettes at the lovely BullRun Restaurant. Good golly, i can't believe it...We shared the stage with our own ukulele heroes! We also had some wild "traffic-jam sessions" travelin' from city to city with John Kavanagh, Sonic Uke, and Tom Harker. Also on the Caravan were Patsy Monteleone and his lovely lady Heidi, Robert Wheeler, Greg Hawkes, The Moonlighters, Victoria Vox, and Mark Occhionero...just to mention a few. As soon as i gather more photographs and video i'll be sure to post them. Check out my Blogspot for future Caravan updates and other fun stuff. A special thanks to Cecily Miller in Boston, Mary Martin of the White Horse Inn in Cape Cod and Jason Tagg in Manhatten for their assistance and generous hospitality.
