As a musician, I am often times asked for advice from people who are just starting out in the business as to how they can increase their chances of "Making it BIG."  Aside from telling them to show up on time, don't tick off the customers and to remember that the dressing room is NOT for trashing... I also suggest that they read, "So You Want To Be A Rock & Roll Star" by Jacob Slichter.  Slichter is the drummer of the band Semisonic.  For you non-Twin Citiens, Semisonic is the band that brought us "Closing Time."

In the book, Slichter takes you through all of games and pitfalls of music biz and by the end, you are wondering why you would ever want to subject yourself to such ills.  BECAUSE YOU GET TO BE A ROCK STAR...THAT'S WHY!!!

One noted comment made in the book refers to, "One Hit Wonders."  He reminds the reader of just how hard it is to land even ONE hit.  Food for thought next time you find yourself watching VH1's "One Hit Wonders."

Thanks for a great book Jacob Slichter...I am currently reading it for the second time.
