Hey everyone,
We would like to share with you the exciting news that Michelle's Law (S. 400) unanimously passed the US Senate yesterday! This bill is now moving on to the President's desk to finally be signed into law.
Thank you to all who took action and emailed your Senators about this very important bill for college students. We have heard from a number of Senators' offices of how impressed they were with your commitment to see this bill become law. This week's victory further proves the power of your voice to fight cancer.
Because of you, thousands of college students will be able to remain on their parents' health care plan should they be forced to take time off from school due to a serious injury or illness such as cancer.
You will be some of the first to know when the President signs Michelle's Law into law. Also watch for updates on more ACS CAN priorities at acscan.org.
Thank you all once again.

ACS CAN President Dan Smith was recently featured on the Fox Business Network to discuss the important role that the federal government plays in the fight against cancer. Many people don't realize that the federal government is, by far, the largest funder of cancer research. However, as Dan correctly pointed out, a lot more can be done right now to have a huge impact on our ability to prevent cancer and find new treatments for the most deadly cancers. With a greater investment by Congress and the President, we can save many more lives. This interview and others like it are evidence of the fast-growing, nationwide grassroots movement to fight back against cancer. Hey everyone,
We have some great news! We’re once again happy to announce another big step for the bill that gives the FDA the authority to regulate tobacco products and marketing (officially the FDA Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act). Just last week the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee passed the bill by a 38-12 vote. This means that the bill is now being sent to the House floor for approval by the whole body.
This bill will stop tobacco companies from targeting children in their advertising and causing them to become lifelong addicts to cigarettes. Thank you again to those that have taken action to let your Member of Congress know how important this is. If you haven’t done so yet, please go to the link below and sign the letter to your representatives: https://secure3.convio.net/acscan/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=1750Stay tuned for more updates as they come along.

undefined Get the bus on the roadAdd to My Profile | More VideosIn 2008, the ACS CAN Bus will travel across the country, stopping in hundreds of communities to build the movement to make cancer issues a national priority. ACS CAN will bring the stories of cancer patients, survivors and friends to the presidential candidates to make cancer a priority issue in their administration. You CAN help make cancer a top national priority. To make progress in the fight against cancer, our elected officials must make the issues facing cancer patients a top national priority. By getting this bus on the road, we will be able to raise the awareness of critical health care issues. We CAN get cancer on the map. The bus will travel across the country to serve as a reminder to all Americans that we will win the war against cancer. I CAN save lives. Becoming a member is easy and will make a difference in the lives of millions.
