SMASHIN' TRANSISTORS
When this Italian duo first started making the rounds a few back they were lumped into the two piece BLOOZEPUNK thing but you could tell by listening to their songs that they definitely had an ear cocked to something a little more "pop" in mind. Here they sound like some damn catchy early 70's regional hit AM radio classic with all the frills and sweetening. Both songs bring a swing and a hook like if Brian Wilson only lost half his mind and kicked Mike Love out 20 years before the regular world found out he was a total dick and decided all that time spent in the studio was time wasted so he stripped down the band to some bare essentials and went on tour with the Troggs as the opening act. SOUNDFLAT
Superb new 2 tracks by our fave italians!! Incredible catchy tracks pressed on blue wax & housed in a deluxe coloured sleeve!! These 2 tracks will put THE MOJOMATICS in stardom heaven! This 45 will be in my Top 10 of the year for sure! Get 2 copies, one for yer collection, one for the girl you love!!


NO FRONT TEETH
Two more cuts from these Italian two-piece garage rockers with their sickeningly genuine '60's sound. These are a couple of talented and musically educated guys…both these tracks are wonderful garage pop diamonds with all the ingredients to make you wanna move, they are catchy, raw and fascinating and all about the true pop sound. I always though THE MOJOMATICS were a fantastic pop band, sure they have that wild garage edge but the core is pop- that's the secret to why they're so damn addictive, nothing better than some true pop!

Z-GUN
If someone told me that this single was a long lost recording from 1980s Australia, I'd have no reason to believe them. These two Mojomatics songs may not be unique, but they follow the Saints/Lime Spiders/Celibate Rifles bang bang strum perfectly. Nary a hair is out of place and, man, you know these grunts have a lot of it! This is the best ick of this ilk I've heard since the A side of Tall Birds single on Shake Appeal. RAZORCAKE
Two-man-band from Venice, Italy, whose vocals sound like the lead singer from Randy (which is odd, due to Randy being from Sweden and both bands singing in English). My favorite Mojomatics song—"Nothing about Nothing"—crystallized my fandom for these guys a couple years back. That Alien Snatch 7" was a raucous mix of cracked-apart Beatles melodies that were linked to Hasil Adkins jittering that still shakes my bones. Since then, the Mojomatics have taken off the crazy hat and have dived into the world of Lennon/McCartney/Brian Wilson head first with straight-ahead, big-sounding, expertly produced, beautiful songs. Tell me if this makes sense. If I hadn't heard their earlier stuff, I wouldn't give this much of a chance, but since I know where it's coming from, I like it. I can sit back and let the prettiness wash over me like a sunset. (Since the label that's releasing this is named after a Beach Boys album, that'll give you more of a sonic idea where this is coming from.) (Todd Taylor)


LOWCUT MAGAZINE
These two guys from Venice, Italy will take you on a trip back to the 60's garage rock in the vein of rootsy R&B the British way. On the same time of this clear references to the British invasion they also incorporate more traditional blues and Americana in many songs. This single is in the garage style and could have been included on a Nugget compilation if it wasn't recorded in '07. The band plays nice and tight up-tempo, shuffling away and makes your feet stomp and your head nod. Sharply dressed in suits this band could be the new hope for the (apparent) Mod revival I've heard about?!

TERMINAL BOREDOM
I thought maybe I had thrown the wrong record on the turntable when I first heard this. Or maybe that the label had put the wrong 7" in the sleeve (and this is one of the snuggest fitting sleeves ever, I practically had to use pliers to get the vinyl out of this thing...) but apparently this is The Mojomatics I'm thinking of and who you might know from their previous releases on Alien Snatch. Those records were stripped down two-piece blues-garage in that Euros-get-all-Americana-like style. I was into some of their more backyard-blues type tunes and I still hang on to that first 7" they did. So, the band pulls a pretty abrupt about-face here, going from medium-fi rootsy style to super slick indie-garage. Really polished production with bass added to the guitar/drums formula in the studio and a couple of catchy and well played garage rock tunes. Not bad, but kind of a weird turn...great cover pic too.(RK)

ROCKIT
Primo vagito (o ruggito, se date un occhio alla copertina) dell'etichetta Wild Honey Records: onore e onere di aprire le danze spettano ai Mojomatics, inarrestabile duo chitarra/batteria che innesta alla discorsività di un suono blues Anni '60 un tiro rock esagitato e molto attuale.
I serrati 2 minuti e 36 secondi di "Down My Spine" riportano il mood ai sapori garage d'esordio (anche se la pulizia del suono è garantita), ma è il lato B con "The Diamond Jack" a fare la differenza: un pezzo potente ma dallo straniante sapore epico, come se quell'America dei campi di pannocchie, trasportata di forza nella pianura veneta, diventasse scenario di un immaginario inseguimento tra l'ingombrante memoria rock dei nostri e il loro adrenalinico presente naif. I Mojomatics continuano la ricerca di un suono ruspante, quasi rurale direi, ma assolutamente genuino e decisamente esaltante.
Disco nuovo in arrivo, attendiamo fiduciosi. (Mario Panzeri)


RUMORE
Il biglietto da visita della neonata Wild Honey è di quelli che si fanno ricordare. Nulla è lasciato al caso, in questo nuovo singolo dei Mojomatics, dalla confezione, assai sciccosa, alla produzione, più curata rispetto agli standard abituali del duo veneto, al quale l'ambito indie sta sempre più stretto. E poi c'è la musica, due brani nuovi di zecca che rivelano un nuovo volto della band più votato alla melodia rispetto al passato ed una maggiore attenzione rivolta al songwriting. Il lato A, Down My Spine è un'inaspettata bomba (quasi) power-pop dal ritornello trapanante che sorprenderà chi dai Mojomatics si aspetta solo rock'n'roll minimale e grattugiato, il retro, The Diamond Jack, è più roots ma altrettanto potente. In attesa dell'album, un anomalo, ricco e gustosissimo antipasto. (Luca Frazzi)


BLACK MILK MAGAZINE
Dalla neonata Wild Honey Records (label italiana collegata all'universo di Bam Magazine) ecco arrivare un bel dischetto a 45 giri fumante. Fumante non tanto per il fatto che è nuovo e il vinile è ancora caldo di pressa, quanto piuttosto per il contenuto, davvero rovente.
I Mojomatics non sono certo esordienti nel panorama nazionale ed europeo, anche se io confesso di avere finora tranquillamente glissato sul loro conto, perso nelle mie disordinate e farfuglianti peregrinazioni musicali. Che errore. Che grande errore. Già, perché se la loro produzione pregressa si avvicina minimamente a ciò che è contenuto il questo singolo, credo di avere trovato una delle poche, pochissime band contemporanee che mi piace davvero e mi riconcilia (almeno per la durata dei due lati di questo 7″) col concetto di acquistare dischi che non siano usciti quando ero bambino o ancora non ero stato concepito.
Loro sono in due (chitarra + batteria), anche se non si direbbe, tanto potenti, compressi e saturi suonano in questi due brani. Anzi, quasi c'è da domandarsi come dal vivo possano ricreare una tale muraglia sonica, che si abbatte compatta come un mattone sulle nuche degli ignari ascoltatori. Questi due pezzi, poi, mescolano senza troppe paranoie diverse suggestioni, che vanno dal garage rock più assatanato, al punk 77, al Sixties pop anfetaminico, al paisley… insomma un bel frullatone ipervitaminico, di quelli che rinfrancano e rinvigoriscono.

Im Vorfeld des neuen MOJOMATICS-Albums erschien diese 2-Song-7", deren A-Seite von „Don't Pretend That You Know Me" stammt, aber von der exklusiven B-Seite „The Diamond Jack" ergänzt wird. Sanfter und melodiöser, ja poppiger ist der Garage-Beat-Pop der beiden Italiener geworden, doch das steht ihnen – und sehr fein ist auch das Cover, das Matt und Davide mit einem (hoffentlich ausgestopften!) Löwen zeigt. Venedig lässt grüßen ... (8) Joachim Hiller
