Greetings!

We made it to London yesterday (eventually). Never trust your satnav's advice. We ended up on a ferry. We didn't need or want to take a ferry. It was quite nice though; looking back, I'm glad.

Anyway, we are playing a gig tonight in Shoreditch. It's To Arms Etc's single launch and it's in the Queen of Hoxton. Come!! It's our first ever show in another country (England) and this excites us somewhat. Mainy cos everyone here talks funny, and everything is overpriced, and where you need to go is really far from where you are, and even if it's not very far it takes a long time to get there because so many other people are trying to get somewhere.

So, to recap, if you're in London and free tonight come to Queen of Hoxton and say hello.

Madden has a sore head from last night, poor wee lamb. But the boys should be back soon with Irn Bru and Greggs. Yass.

Love,

xxxx

Hello,

pop on over and have a look at us perform a stripped down/re-jigged version of Midfield Maestro on STV's "The Hour" show! We had fun, not least cos I got to sit in John MacKay's chair and pretend I was as cool as him...

Hiya!

We've somehow neglected to write a blog since our album was released last week, but here it is...

The album is out - woot woot!

You can get it on all the usual downloading sites (iTunes, Amazon, Napster etc). If you want a physical copy, for the time being, you can purchase one HERE while our new website gets built.

Here are what some people/publications have been saying about our album -

THE LINE OF BEST FIT

SUBBA-CULTCHA

THE SCOTSMAN

IS THIS MUSIC?

STEREOKILL

THE SKINNY (also)

So there we are. We've got some gigs in Edinburger and Aberdeen next week which should be a larff since we get to drive about in a van for a few days. And, we've started work on writing/recording the next album - got one tune pretty much recorded already.

See you soon,

Nicky

Hey hey hey

Belated Happy New Year tidings and good vibings to everyone. We hope 2009 is good to you and yours and us and ours.

It looks set to be a busy year for us, not least because of the looming spectre of dissertations and finals. Curses!

But good things are also keeping us busy: our eponymous debut album will be launched soon! Hurrah!

We've had to push the release back a wee teensy bit to June due to a kerfuffle involved mastering.

Anyway yes, There Will Be Fireworks has 13 songs, called:

Colombian Fireworks; So the Story Goes; Midfield Maestro; Guising; Off With Their Heads; I Like the Lights; A Kind of Furnace (which you may know as the Piano Song); We Sleep Through the Bombs; Headlights; We Were a Roman Candle; Says Aye; Foreign Thoughts; and Joined Up Writing.

Again, mmaasssssiivvee thanks to everyone of our friends who contributed: Marshall, Karen, Kevin, drawler, Doobles, Vincenzo, Stevie and Edward R. Murrow. We love you all like Flake cakes.

It took pretty much a year to record - partly due to work and university commitments and partly due to our pernickity obsessiveness. Or obssesive pernickitiness. Or something.

Anyhoo, we're now content to let it just be whatever the hell it is and release it on our imaginary label that we invented in our heads.

Until then, we are STILL giving away FREE songs. We've had a ridiculously good response to this enterprise, so if ye huvnae already email us at

therewillbefireworks@hotmail.co.uk

and we'll send you Talking Backwards and White Noise on the TV. For zilch. Zip. Nada. Don't say we ain't good to you.

Also, our video for Midfield Maestro is going on Rapal next week (I think) and we're going to be on Tom Robinson's 6music show at some indeterminate point in the not-too-distant future. I should probably pay my licence fee.

Until then, you should all come to see us at the Captain's Rest next week with Glissando and the French Quarter. We'll have Vinny and Karen with us and we'll all go out after and you can buy us a pint and a sandwich.

Merci beaucoup,

Nicky

...to everyone who came down to King Tuts last night - we appreciate it lots and lots. It was a great night and we had a really good time. The Phantom Band and iLiKETRAiNS were brilliant, so was a great night all round.

And special love goes to Karen for being amazing as always. A mixture of love and disappointment rages in our collective heart at the loss of Vinny, who couldn't make it to the gig to wow us with his unique and delightful imput on the guitar and glockenspiel. No worries, next time.

So yeah, just a big thanks to everyone - was great to see so many of you there.

We're off to see the wizard, at the magical Mill on saturday, to finish the album mix. Aww yeeah.

love,

That's right - tomorrow is the 5th of November (remember?), or Guy Fawkes Night, or Bonfire Night etc. We'd like to think the relatively high number of myspace plays we've had recently is due to a surge in our underground popularity and the begginings of a cult following, but, alas, it's probably the result of people searching for "fireworks" in "Glasgow" or asking that servile search engine Jeeves, "Where will there be fireworks displays?", only to see our page pop up in the sites found. Gutted.

SO, if you're going out for some pyrotechnic frivolities, be safe, wear gloves when holding sparklers, don't throw cans of pertrol on the bonfire, don't light fireworks and post them through nice old ladies' doors etc.

But, what you CAN do, is come to our next gig, which will be on the 21st of November at the Captain's Rest. Not only is this the 21st day of November, it's also the 21st anniversary of our Nicky's birth. We salute his parents' nose for pattern and numerology when it came to conceiving their firstborn. The evenig will also see performances from We Hung Your Leader, Lions.chase.tigers and Matadors! Lovely. It looks to be a busy one in a relatively wee venue, so get there early to avoid disappointment. It will probably be the most funtime gig we've played, full of good music and good friends. All friends should feel guilted into coming, since it's Nick's special day.

Cool.

Thanks!!!
