Ok Here's another review and our First interview!

From the very moment that I heard their music, I was instantly hooked to the magical, inspiring, and sensual voice of Arianne Benick and the mesmerizing enchanting style of the rest of the members of the band. What is the best part of the band is the many fusion of style that one hears when listening to iolite's music. A combination of soul, jazz, reggae and R&B the band iolite will sure to delight and entertain music lovers of such artist as Sade, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, Nina Simone, and Erykah Badu to name a few. Many of these legendary artists' style will come across in the music of iolite. Check out the band in this recent spotlight with our Webzine as we get to know who is iolite. Enjoy!

Here's a link to the interview.  Check it out and please leave a comment if you can!

Hey All! Here's what Mike Breen from City Beat had to say about our EP

iolite is planning a nationwide promotional push in 2010, but Saturday at The Mockbee in Brighton the group’s self-titled EP gets “release partied” with a hometown throw-down featuring guests Eclipse, Abiyah, DJ Nati Kid, djdq and DJ Stacks, plus lots of visual and culinary art. Singer Arianne Benick’s elastic, commanding vocals are the heart of iolite’s passionate, smoky Jazz/Blues/Soul sound, bringing to mind the varied likes of Tracey Thorn, Anita Baker, Norah Jones and Sade without distracting from the singularity of her approach. But the musicians deserve a lot of credit for creating the sensual mood with their deft, cinematic, urban Soul Jazz, crafted with flute, sax, trumpet, piano and sultry Jazz grooves.
The material, while subdued, still manages to create a sense of liveliness missing from most other attempts at this sort of speakeasy-ready Neo Soul Lover’s Rock.

Hey Everybody!
I can't help it..I gotta brag!
Thanks to so many wonderful people we had an Awesome, Amazing, Magical EP release Party!
The Bunk News guys did an awesome job with creating trees out of the support post and peeled cardboard. Let me tell you if you've never peeled cardboard before you're not missing out! Dry cuticles and cardboard fiber up your nose! What those guys can do with the stuff is amazing! The also created a perfectly mysterious mood with well placed lighting, including lanterns and one rented fog machine! FYI, Please check out any forthcoming Bunk News shows you will be delighted and surprised at their talent!

Ryan Little at Able Projects created a beautiful stage design based on the image on our CD cover of the moon, trees and plant shapes. He cut the shapes out of plywood, painted them tints of the same color purple so you got a sense of depth. He then created a foreground, middle ground and background with these shapes. Simply elegant and beautiful! So much fun to play on a custom designed stage! We wish we could play on stages like that all the time!

Thanks to  all the musical guest!
Abiyah's set was rocking with djdq and Dana.
Eclipse sounded great and got some bodies moving! Look for double bills with this crew!
Nati Kid and Dj Stacks you guys held it down! Great songs in the art room Jon! Loved 'em! Sorry we had to take your amp...

Thanks Loving Cafe for serving up great vegan food and spreading the good word about a healthy and conscious lifestyle! We Salute you! Keep up the good work!
Thanks to LookOut Joe's for providing free coffee and samples for the VIP bags! I'm sure the people really appreciated it the next morning!

Thanks Fred for being so generous with the space!
Thanks so much to our good friends who helped out with food, art and getting the space ready to go! We even made some new friends!
HUGE THANKS to our volunteers who were totally invaluable and really did a pro job at the door and the merch. table.

We had a great turnout that night with around 200 people! It was a total success!
We sincerely appreciate all you support and love, we really couldn't have done it without you! Give yourselves a big hug and pat on the back to you, from iolite!

Look forward to our full length release in the summer with another fantastic event! We'll try to top this one although it'll be hard!

Thank you all again so much!

Dear Julia,

Thanks for submitting the material for the evaluation.

I love the blends of influences to create a unique sound with a/c, Jazz, soul and even blues.

The lead vocals and musicianship are outstanding.  I really dig this project, Julia!

I also want to thank you for taking the time to give such good answers in the Q&A section of this submission.  Most people list Yes or No and that really doesn't give me much insight to help them.

When we speak, I have a clear understanding about your career already.  Thank you for being so professional.

To give you insight to the scoring scale above, the majorityof artists score in the 2.5 to 3.5 range in the various categories.

Whenever an artist sees a 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3 or 3.5 as a score in a certain category (or categories) it means that's an area I feel they need to improve and develop.

When an artist sees 4, 4.5 or 5 as their score in a category, it's a validation from a professional, confirming that the songs are of the highest level and show strong potential in the ultra-competitive music industry.

To really raise the bar, every artist should work hard to earn a 4.5 or 5 in every category. It's a very competitive business and people averaging in the 3's (or less) will probably not get too far without a great deal of improvement and devel opment.

I don't give out 4's and 5's easily, so any of those you see, you have earned. Well done!

Thanks again for the music submission Julia and continued best wishes!

I look forward to hearing from you and beginning our dialogue over the next few weeks.

Best wishes,

Eugene Foley

Ok we really really REALLY need a drummer. One who is professional, nice, versatile and willing to put in some time and effort to be part of a dedicated hardworking band that is going places. We are looking for someone who can play a number of styles including jazz, reggae, soul, latin, and slow. Seriously, do not bother if you are; looking to make alot of dough right now, can't play a standard jazz rhythm, don't have transport, don't have a kit, and just want to waste someone else's time.
What you'll get; honesty, professionalism, pleasant company, an opportunity to go somewhere, some money, good vibes, appreciation, free astrological assessments, and the feel good feeling that you are a part of a musical phenomenon that really cares about the music we create, oh, and being part of a band that is really good.
Sounds good? Send us a message after you've listened to our tunes.
Thanks!

Hello!
Just writing to let you all know about the progress of the EP. We just had our second session at New Fidelity Productions and it went great! Shimon laid down some awesome bass tracks and Annie nailed her two! Can I say again that those guys over there are great. Very nice and professional. We highly recommend them! On track and next is mixing with Alex, yay! finally getting there....We are hoping to be done by the middle of July, so stay tuned.
Also for those of you who came out to our last couple shows, Thanks you so much!
We hope you enjoyed the Fountain Square show as much as we did. We personally felt is was one of our best shows. There was a fairly large crowd there and everyone seemed into it. We received alot of positive comments and alot of great exposure!. The other bands did a great job also.  Thanks to PNC and City Beat for organizing a great event. Thanks Puck!
I can't wait to play down there in August again. We'll rock it even harder next time !!!
We are really looking forward to Abiyah's B-day celebration July 17th at the Northside Tavern with DJ April Reign, Abiyah and the J. Dorsey Blues Revival! It's gonna be a blast so mark your calendars for that one folks!
Enjoy your spring! Summer's coming!!

Hello everyone! I haven't written in awhile so I thought I'd let you all know what was going on this spring for iolite. First of all we ran into a pretty major snafu with our first album. After 2 years of dragging feet and major headaches the producer/ engineer working on our album decided to drop our project. This was very strange and unexpected as we were getting very close to finishing and only had a few sessions left to do. We are not sure why this happened as no reason was given to us, however we have a sneaking suspicion that aliens and the CIA were involved somehow. Oh well, lesson learned and will never be repeated for sure! We thank the person for helping us learn and getting us some great musicians to play on the tracks and for whatever else I might be missing that was in some way helpful or kind.
Moving on.
Not having the funds left to finish an entire album we have decided to be humble/realistic and release a nice, thought-out, professional, drama-less EP.  This EP will contain five of, what we feel are, our strongest songs although it was very hard to decide. We have decided to work with Chris Madine at New Fidelity Productions. Chris is an old friend, talented and best of all, very interested in NO drama. We feel very good about going with Chris and are confident that he will do a great job helping us to finish this long over due project. We incourage you to check out the New Fidelity Productions studios website or stop by for a visit http://www.newfidelityproductions.com/ .  The studios are new and sparkly and the guys and gals there are very helpful and kind.
After playing out pretty regularly we have decided to take a little gig break to write and learn new music. Keeping set lists fresh is an important consideration to us.
iolite has some very exciting shows coming up this summer including May 29 on Fountain Square, June 6th at Gypsy Hut with Daughters and Sons and a 40th B-day celebration with Abiyah on July 17th at Northside Tavern.
Stay tuned! We are planning on having this EP done by June.
Thanks for staying dedicated!
Julia
