I am now living in South Korea. As of today The RedBloods in their current incarnation are on a temporary hiatus. Thank you for your support.

P.S. James and John have a new project, be sure to check them out. They're tentatively called The Real Molloy.

Cheers,
Marlow

P.S. If you or anyone you know are in Korea, let me know. I'll let you buy me a soju.

Recording is going well; 2 songs just need some icing, the other three are coming along. Slowed down a bit by illness and revenge attacks by bitter terradactyls.

Now that the election is over we can all rest easy, right? Not quite. Got some vocals to finish up tonight, hopefully we'll have at least a passable song to post within the next few days...the anticipation.

On a side note, if you ever play the board game Risk, make sure you learn the rules! On election day I participated in a ten hour game of Risk and no one really one. In fact, the game is still going...if only I could get Siam I could have a foothold in Asia and proceed to sweep the mountains of China and the steppes of Mongolia, then on to Siberia Kamatcha! Domination!

Working on 5 new songs. Tonight we're tracking John's guitar and some of my bass. If you're curious about how this works, read on. if not, well, check this out:
They'll Never Know
Sarah's Flow Chart
Never Ask For Help in Photoshop

We started out by spending a couple days rehearsing the 5 songs until we were sick of them, over and over like an obsessive compulsive counts stairs. Next step we miked everything, isolated the amps, and just played the songs a few times until we got a satisfactory take.

In the past we have recorded just with a scratch track and drums but this seems to work nicely because you get a little more interplay between the parts and the energy level is a little higher.

The main goal of these sessions was to get a solid recording of the drums without too much bleed over. This we accomplished and now we're working on doing a couple overdubs, guitars, vocals and icing (mellotron, assorted midi goodies, and the sound of the jingly things belly dancers wear).

Morale is maintained with chicken sandwiches and the last three innings of the series.

As our goal is to record an EP and not manage a blog, I gotsa wrap this up.

Cheers,
Marlow

Technical jargon:
PT 7.2  with focusrite and chandler germanium preamps. I don't recall the specs on all the mics but for the guitar amps we use either a shure 57 or beta 57 and the vox and backups get a Rode K2 through the chandler with a little bit of TDM reverb.

A guy from the Ubuntu project is releasing a metal album under a Creative Commons license. Not the first, but still interesting. http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20081022-ubuntu-community-manager-releases-cc-licensed-metal-album.html I think this is a good way to get music out there to more people, just to give it away and let people, if they're so inclined, to remash and remix it. Does anyone even pay for music anymore?

Crate digging is a term used by DJ 's and collectors to refer to the act of checking record stores, flea markets or thrift shops for second hand music on vinyl. Stefan Glerum, a very talented illustrator and designer from Holland, shows how crate digging can ruin your life.

Wonderful illustrations from Stefan Glerum
