ZombieWalkDetroit.com will be updated on Wednesday night, but we wanted to post a quick note here saying THANKS!
So far all we can tell you is that we lost count somewhere around 450 ZOMBIES (not including the many zombie dogs!), but it's estimated that at LEAST another 25 (likely more) showed up post-count.
YAY for all who came out!
Thanks!
We have a BOATLOAD of food for Gleaners AND cash & checks! There are online donations that need to be tallied by Gleaners and cash donation canisters will stay in local retailers' establishments until November 2nd (so we'll know a lot, but we won't know the GRAND total of all of our efforts until then). Food collection is over! Bins were picked up today (from Noir, Footprints, Five 15, Nutri-Foods, Adornment Deluxe and Main Art Theatre). We'll know the cash & check total from the day of soon... and when Gleaners picks up the food tomorrow (THANKS Adornment Deluxe for storing it in your lobby... heh!) they'll weigh it and let us know how we all did!
We'll let you know as soon as we know! How exciting!
Thanks again SO MUCH!!! You guys are amazing!
Special thanks again to our sponsors, Noir Leather, V-Male Detroit Vintage, DelSquacho.com, Adornment Deluxe and Detroit Comics.
Much thanks to Creepy Rick of the 3-D Invisibles for putting on a rockin' acoustic show during registration! Rick, many came up to us and said how great you were... I hope they all got a chance to tell you personally. Thank you!

That's right, you're invited to a special advance screening! Remember- when you post, choose either: Tuesday September 29th in NOVI @ 7:30 PM Emagine Novi 44425 West 12 Mile Novi, MI OR

A cowardly shut-in named Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) is forced to join up with a seasoned zombie slayer named Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) in order to survive the zombie apocalypse. As Tallahassee sets out on a mission to find the last Twinkie on Earth, the duo meets up with Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin), two young girls who have resorted to some rather unorthodox methods to survive amidst the chaos. Reluctant partners in the battle against the undead, all four soon begin to wonder if it might be better to simply take their chances alone. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
Thanks, folks! Hope to see you on the 11th, as well!

Detroit's own WOLFMAN MAC, host of Nightmare Sinema has agreed to help us out on WORLD ZOMBIE DAY as an official witness for the Guiness World Record count. Be sure to tune into Wolfman Mac's Nightmare Sinema this (and every) Saturday at 12 midnight on TV20. This week's feature is 'Night Of The Living Dead'...the 'gateway' zombie movie that started it all. Look for a few of Zombie Walk Detroit's regulars on the show as well. THANKS WOLFMAN!!!! See you all on Sunday!!!!

WORLD ZOMBIE DAY Zombie walk against world hunger! October 26th, 2008. 3 pm!
We'll be hosting an event in Ferndale! A food (& fund!) drive to benefit Gleaners Food Bank with a portion of the proceeds dedicated for Ferndale's own (3) food banks!
Zombies the world 'round will join forces and stagger through their local streets with one goal in mind: to fight world hunger!
(we know there's a lot of info below, but if you're thinking about attending, please read it! it's important!)
WHEN: Sunday, October 26th - Registration is at 3PM
Why register? We need EVERY ZOMBIE walking with us to sign in because this is going into the Guinness Book of World Records. It's not just our walk, but a total count of all zombies around the world who walk in solidarity on this day. Woo!
All we'll need is your name, and the city and state in which you live. You sign in, we stamp your hand, and then we walk. Simple dimple.
WHERE: Meet at the parking lot just NORTH of 9 Mile (behind 9 mile businesses) just WEST of Woodward.
WHY: We'll be walking to raise awareness about world hunger, and to raise food and funds for Gleaners to help needy families who live right here in Michigan.
HOW: Whether you're walking or not, please bring a few cans of food to the walk. More if you're able! Spectators (at least the ones who know in advance) and photographers, this means you, please! Food, funds, or both! Thanks!
WALKERS: Print out a PLEDGE SHEET by clicking here to open it as a PDF. Simply ask friends, family and co-workers to help feed hungry families in Michigan by sponsoring your walk. We've made it easy for you by including that info right on the pledge form. We're good like that.
They can pledge a total of $5, $10... whatever amount they'd like. Every penny goes to the food banks.
Cash is fine, but any checks should be made payable to Gleaners. All monetary donations are tax deductible.

What do you get for your efforts? A sense of accomplishment, the wonderful feeling of selflessness and the beauty of having given to someone less fortunate.
...and if that isn't enough for you, the top few zombies who bring in the biggest amounts in pledges get super cool prizes. Like, we're jealous that we can't keep them, kind of prizes.
Walkers who attend without bringing any sponsored donations will be publicly ridiculed.
Noooo. of course we wouldn't do that. Gees.....
But really- try, eh? Everyone knows someone who would sponsor them- even if just a few folks. There are more families than you could even imagine who need some help through these hard times.
We very respectfully request that any zombies who do not succeed in bringing in pledges, donate some food and/or funds themselves. Let's make Gleaners proud!
Thanks very much! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to click here to email us!

Yesterday we reported some difficulties we were having with city policies and such. Well, we are happy to report that as of this afternoon........
We're ON for the 26th of October in Downtown Ferndale!
WOOO freaking HOOOO!
(the woman at the city clerk's office left us a voicemail today and was as sweet as pie- we may just take her flowers tomorrow. i think she was pushing for us...)
Within the next few days, we'll be sending out the first trickling of real details, including what to do, what to expect, and how to help raise funds and/or food for Gleaners and Ferndale Food Banks. We're also in need of some volunteer zombies, so if you're interested in getting into zombie gear even SOONER than October 26th, just SCREAM!
So hey! While we have you... one more thing: the best way to get updates is to get on our zombiemail list. If you haven't already, send an email to zombiewalkdetroit @ gmail .com and GET ON!
Thanks for your interest in the WORLD ZOMBIE DAY WALK AGAINST HUNGER!

Okay, so we know we already announced it way back when... (April 25th. Look down.) ...but the WORLD ZOMBIE DAY is getting closer, and we're sizzling with excitement! (or something like that)
WHEN: October 26th. We're thinking around 4 p.m. but don't quote us. This allows those who attended the Zombie Showdown and/or Theatre Bizarre the night before a chance to let their hangovers loosen their grip a bit.
But seriously, this is for the GUINNESS BOOK of WORLD RECORDS, people, so really- get your asses out of BED for an hour or two and SUCK it UP!
You can complain the whole time if you feel the need, but hungover zombies are all the more convincing anyway, what with their droopy eyes, mussed up hair-dos and shuffling stagger. So just do it.
DO IT, I said!
Registration (yep- this ain't no half assed 'show up when you wanna' thing. again: GUINNESS. They kinda need an exact count) will begin an hour or so earlier. BUT! For those who get there early, please note that there will be REFRESHMENTS served by strolling zombies.
There will also be a whole hell of a lot more going on, so... just stay tuned and mark the date. (but not the time. yet.)
