Our reading/submission period began September 1 and concludes December 15.

We only accept submissions reflecting the current issue’s theme. The theme for the Fall, 2009, reading period is “WALLS.”

Recent themes have been: The Artist in Wartime, Freak, Animals, Abject/Outcast, and Sacred/Shamanic. Please view sample texts from these past issues to become familiar with Fiction International’s thematic focus.

All submissions, including those from agents, must be made in writing, accompanied by SASE, and mailed to:
Harold Jaffe, Editor
Fiction International
San Diego State University
Dept. of English and Comp. Lit.
5500 Campanile Drive
San Diego, CA 92182-6020 USA

We exercise all due care in handling manuscripts, but we cannot be responsible for loss.

Please allow one to three months for reply.

Should you have any further questions, please email the editor at: hjaffe@mail.sdsu.edu.
July 19, 2008 - Saturday

Fiction International is having an online-only sale.

Two issues -- War/Resist and Pornography/Censorship -- are half-price if you purchase them through our website: www.fictioninternational.com.

Because we received so many fine, compelling and intriguing submissions about the topics, we assumed there would be a large demand for the journals. Thus, we over-ordered.

Why would people be so compelled to write about the topics yet reluctant to read about them?

Don't be afraid: you won't suddenly become a warrior or pornographer or censor or resister if you purchase an issue.

Instead, you will read about two issues that never seem to go away. Two mistakes we repeat and repeat and repeat. Two crises we inflict on the world. Two horrors that have become emblematic of American culture.

We can't quit them.

Please purchase an issue today @ www.fictioninternational.com and find out why Fiction is International.

September 16, 2007 - Sunday

We've moved all discussion of Fiction International's Freak issue to fictioninternational.blogspot.com.

If you go there you will discover that a great many topics are being discussed, very few of them freak-related.

This is because freaks are too busy living the life to talk about it.

When we do talk about it, we slip the words into a manila envelope and mail them to:

Harold Jaffe, Editor
Fiction International
Dept. of English
San Diego State University
San Diego, CA 92182-6020 USA

I suggest you do the same, freak.
