More comedy gold. This happened this month. I'm omitting entries that deviate from the subject. I'll update if the dude ever replies to the last post. Comment your thoughts on the matter(agree/disagree).
Other Guy:
"Did you listen to Obama's Pastor and read Michelle's thesis. Obama is married to a racist, takes advice from his close personal friend Rev. Wright, who is a racist and hates Amercia. You do not go to a Church, tithe to a church, and not believe in the beliefs of that church. He was a member of that church for over 20 years. Most of the time you surround yourself with people of the same beliefs and qualities. The only qualities I am getting from his wife and pastor are racism and hatred of America."
Me:
"I disagree, I've read the thesis in it's entirety. Have you? Or are you merely spewing an opinion based off of excerpts taken out of context? I find it hard to believe anyone who's read the entire document within the context of when and in what setting it was written could find anything at all racist about it. As a matter of fact it's quite the opposite! "
Other Guy:
"Taken out of context. I like that excuse."
Me:
"You haven't answered my question, sir. So I'll ask it again.
Have you read the thesis that you are purporting to be racist in nature, thereby slandering the author if in fact it is not true? I have a copy right in front of me, would you like to read it? How about this, if I am indeed "making an excuse" by saying many of the people calling the thesis racist are taking sentences out of context, you should be able to point out the passages that are racist. Especially since you have made several posts in this thread that state that "it is a fact that Michelle Obama is a racist."
If you are so sure of your facts, I want to see you back them up."
Other Guy:
"Later, luch time is over."
Me:
"I'm looking forward to your answer. Have a good day."
Me: (A Day Later)
"What happened to Other Guy? I'm still waiting for an answer."
Me: (TWO WEEKS LATER)
"What happened to Other Guy? I'm still waiting for you to back up your statement. I'm very patient."
Other Guy:(Using quotes from Michelle's thesis)
"She sees whites as having an advantage over her and every white person has racist views towards her. I think that she gets those feelings from her own racist feelings. She never says anything about hate or racism, but it is all implied in the tone of her thesis and her negative remarks towards whites. Below are a few examples, I know you will come up with something, but I call it like I see it.
"Predominately white universities like Princeton are socially and academically designed to cater to the needs of the white students comprising the bulk of their enrollments." Is this true?
"[My Princeton experiences] "will likely lead to my further integration and/or assimilation into a White cultural and social structure that will only allow me to remain on the periphery of society; never becoming a full participant." What a shame, I have to work with whites
"I have found that at Princeton, no matter how liberal and open-minded some of my white professors and classmates try to be toward me, I sometimes feel like a visitor on campus; as if I really don't belong. Regardless of the circumstances under which I interact with whites at Princeton, it often seems as if, to them, I will always be black first and a student second." Why does everything have to be black or white
"Earlier in my college career, there was no doubt in my mind that as a member of the Black community I was somehow obligated to this community and would utilize all of my present and future resources to benefit this community first and foremost." Support Blacks first then whites? Good ethical thinking?
"In defining the concept of identification or the ability to identify with the black community… I based my definition on the premise that there is a distinctive black culture very different from white culture." But also very much alike, but she doesn't see that through her racist blinders"
Me:
"My opinion(and this is only my opinion, just as that is only your opinion), is that you've made a fundamental error in the way you're interpreting her "implied tone." ( a far cry from the 100% positive "racist thesis!" assertion of before!)
I believe that in your comments to the above quotes, you are revealing that you personally don't believe she experienced any racism on campus. Neither you nor I can say "Michelle Obama did not experience overt racist behavior in her time on campus, or at the least feelings of disconnectedness related to her race" because simply, we are not her.
Her thesis was written from the perspective of her personal experience as an African American student in a predominantly white campus, and the data collected was also from personal experiences of other African American students. For you or I to accuse Mrs. Obama herself of reverse racism because we do not believe that she and the people whom she collected her data from truly experienced the things they said they did is arrogance of the highest order, and it is by no means "proof" of any racism on her part.
Now, as you said, you are insinuating that her feelings of others being racist are rooted in her own racist feelings, which you believe are evidenced by her "implied tone." My retort to you sir, is that one cannot make such a sweeping assumption about another's character when the only way either of us could ever know for certain what she and the many others experienced would be to actually BE any of the said individuals during their time at Princeton.
Thus, it is unfair, illogical, and immoral to state emphatically that Michelle Obama is a racist as you have done."
