Current mood:  distraught
and another day passes...another day where I listen to Judee Sill for comfort and a piece of mind. I have so many sources, none as helpful as the perfection in music as Ms. Judee. I lie as liquid, in a pool, and languish in the healing waters of JS. Ohhhh..God Bless you Dear Girl.

Hi Friends,

As some are aware, I have NOT done a second solo album yet. BUT I have produced Anny Celsi's new CD Tangle-Free World. This is as close to an NB solo album as I can get as I co-wrote two songs, play all the drums and percussion, most of the 6&12 string acoustic guitars and sing most of the backing vocals. But people, Anny is the genius here. I am so proud to have been a part of this project from the day I tracked the drums to the title track on Thanksgiving day with the worst case of the flu ever, to last Friday when the masters were sent to Germany for pressing. Now we are booking our UK promotional tour and it is going swimmingly! Read below some details about the recordings on Anny's myspace and GO LISTEN!!!!

Love, Nelson Bragg

Heeeeeeer's ANNY!!!

"Songs Posted from My New CD!"

The new CD "Tangle-Free World" is finally mixed & mastered and on a boat to Germany to be pressed up by Taxim. This project was begun on Thanksgiving of 2006 and has been a long and joyous process of music making and discovery.

I've posted two songs from the disc on my page - the title song, "Tangle-Free World," and "The Night She Learned to Drive." They represent the wide spectrum the songs cover, from full-on psychedelic pop madness to intimate roots-rock. In the sixties and seventies, you might have heard The Zombies on the radio next to Laura Nyro followed by Glenn Campbell. Why not?

"Tangle-Free World" features cameos from some of my dear friends and amazing musicians -- Nelson Bragg, Carl Byron, Phil Parlapiano, Adam Marsland, Evie Sands, Teresa Cowles, Jonny DuFresne, Rick Gallego, Robbie Rist...and you'll hear my young son Ivan in there doing his best Hugh Masakela, at both 13 and 16 years of age. I'm extremely proud of this track, which was produced by Nelson and Phil.

"The Night She Learned to Drive" is a song I wrote based on a long road trip I took with Ivan many years ago. You'll hear much more intimate production. which allows the story to shine through. Again, major contributions from Nelson, Carl and Jonny, and that's Ivan singing with me on the choruses.

This album has been a labor of love and I hope you'll give these songs a listen. More to come....

thanks
Anny

Hey Friends in The UK,

I
will be there from about July 11 through July 28. I am attempting to
book gigs in The UK with The Anny Celsi Band as her 3rd CD "Tangle-Free
World is released in Germany in June! This record is a sprawlling trip
through the history of pop music starting with the girl groups of the
60's, 60's psych pop and Memphis soul...to the soft pop and country
rock of the 70's into the alt country and rock of the 80's to the
present. It was produced by me and feature many members of Brian Wilson
Band as well as the cream of the L.A. Americana scene and power pop
luminaries. Hell, the legendary Evie Sands plays and sings beautifully
on 3 or 4 songs. And so do a couple of Wondermints. Anny is a great
writer and creates heart stopping stories and soundscapes. The music is
very cinamatic. This records is 3 years in the making and will sure to
be a year end favorite for serious fans of the classic song structure
and old school record making. We'd like to share a bill or support like
minded bands and friends. The most important thing is hanging out and
seeing all my friends in England. I'd love to see my friends in
Scotland too if possible. Plus I've many pals in Ireland and even Isle
of Man. So there it is!! There is my pitch. ...as tacky as it may
sound, I know I am right in assuming fun will be had by all. Be in touch!!

Cheers!! Nelson Bragg

today, I moved to Los Angeles with nothing. All I wanted to do was to
play the drums. I am grateful for the experiences I've had. The people
I've met and the people I have played with are the best in the world.
They join the company of my dear friends and colleagues back in
Rockport and Gloucester, Mass. where I grew up. Here are photos before
and after. The 1rst one is 1999-2000 when I moved here. The second one
is 2006-2008 roughly...just so one can see what the city of Angels has
done to me, or what I've done to myself in 10 years.

NELSON BRAGG 28th February 2009

NELSON BRAGG Day into Night (Side B Music)
Discerning listeners of the pop underground would have noticed the
name of Nelson Bragg pop up in albums by the likes of The Tyde, Stew,
Cloud Eleven, and The Mockers. Fans of the legendary Brian Wilson will
also know of Bragg as a vital cog in Brian’s backing band.
More than that, Bragg is also an acomplished
singer-songwriter-musician in his own right, as his debut album - the
truly excellent Day into Night - attests. Recorded over the course of
four years - in the midst of Bragg’s commitments with the Brian Wilson
Band - Day into Night is an exceptional album that captures brilliantly
the classic pop of the 60s and the 70s and straddles the varied
delights of soft pop, jangle pop, chamber pop and sunshine pop
perfectly.
As the album title suggests, the album transitions from day into
night during its course in terms of sound and theme with the album
starting brightly with the Byrdsy Forever Days and folky Tell Me I’m
Wrong. The mood swings ever so slightly with Bragg’s evocative take on
the late George Harrison’s Dark Sweet Lady, with its nylon string
plucking, mandolins and heart-tugging pedal steel, it’s a mini
tour de force which the great man would have enjoyed himself.
The rest of Day into Night continues in this vein as melancholia
replaces bright-eyed innocence but always drenched with multi-part
vocal harmonies reminiscient of the Beach Boys and Crosby, Stills &
Nash. Check out the wonderful Death of Caroline, Every Minute of the
Day for a powerful dose of vocal brilliance. But it is with the
penultimate A Father’s Foolish Will that will deeply touch you with its
sad story about a father’s separation from his son - perhaps due to
divorce? Delivered with simplicity and heartfelt aplomb, this short
track is the album’s most poignant moment.
There is enough on Day into Night to suggest that it will weigh
heavily on my mind when the year’s best albums are being considered
come December ‘09.

From CD Baby:

'Pop Genius'...

The singing and musicianship on this album is brilliant, making this one of those under-appreciated underground masterpieces that will reward only the most persistent of crate diggers. How can the author of such highs as 'Turn The Darkness into Gold', 'Lived This Life Too Long', 'Tell Me I'm Wrong' and 'Every Minute Of The Day' be a sideman now? This guy should be obsessing in a studio, so should Wondermints*, not raking in the cash backing a oldies deity, but their moment of sublime creativity may have passed. This is a CD you need, if you have any leftover affinity for power pop.

Martin White - CD Baby

*Wondermints have got all kinds of creativity left in'em....trust me on that...Nelson

...and the word from the world is that we in the United States came together for a common cause of progress and positive change. I agree completely. After 8 years of negative, aggressive behavior from an embarrassing president, we appear to be back on the right track....finally. Thanks to all the people overseas who supported us in our difficult time. We can hold our heads high and join the rest of the world once again.

Best, Nelson Bragg
