Current mood:  adventurous
I'm currently flying across the country from LAX to NYC to play some promotion gigs with John Mayer and I figured I would write a little blog, since the stewards on this plane frowned upon me running windsprints in the aisles. (On a side note: the spelling  of "aisles" looks really jacked up.  Were it not for spellcheck, I might still be scratching my head and wondering if I got it right).

I'M SORRY:
I was accepting friend requests just now and I inadvertently hit "deny" instead of "accept". (Between you and I,  I think it was because I don't care much for the person sitting next to me and I was envisioning me "denying" him the ability to invade my personal space anymore.)  The great irony is the fact that the very ones I want to apologize to will never receive said apology because I gave them the Heisman by accident.

YOU'RE WELCOME: (or......I've Got Shows In Different Area Codes)
Coming to you live and solo:

Apparently, its a free show so you can't buy tix.
Just show up and be over 21 at the same time.  sweet.

November 23 Toronto, ONT The Supermarket 10:45
I know it seems late for a Monday, but that's how we gotta roll.  I don't really like the cold, but you don't see me complaining do ya?  I'm pretty sure tix are 10.00 and available at the door only.  Bring 10.00 and be able to prove you're at least 19 years old.  sweet.

I'll be splitting the hour with the incredibly talented Steven McMorran. (which means I have to be ready to BRING IT.  He's pretty serious up there)  Tix are 10.00 and you gotta be 21. sweet.

December 23 Atlanta, GA Smith's Olde Bar 8pm
It's actually billed "An Intimate Evening-Cabaret Seating" , which I think means we have to kiss and I have to wear a bustier or something.  I'll do some research and get back to you.  Tix are 20.00 and available here. Limited seats, as I can only kiss so many people with the H1N1 thing going around, you know. 21 and over please. (home) sweet. (home)

Oh.  Almost forgot.
A bunch of folks have been asking if I'd be playing with John Mayer on his upcoming tour.
I'll be there. Same side. New gear.

Love is what I've got.
David

Yeah, I know some of you (or y'all) don't eat pork, but that shouldn't keep you away from the B'ham this Labor Day weekend.  DRH will be playing an ALL AGES show at The Workplay Theatre in Birmingham, AL Sunday Sept. 6th 8:00.
See you there.  Bring potato salad and paper plates.

Happy Belated Birthday Mrs. USA

I am happy to report that all has been well and productive since I blogged to you last.  I've been up in the North Georgia mountains gathering my thoughts, song ideas, and generally getting my nature on.
I took a break last week to go down to Atlanta and Columbus (Ft. Benning) to play a couple shows.  Thanks to everybody for coming out.  I had a great time at both of the shows and I can't wait to do it again.  It was humbling meeting the soldiers and some of their families at Ft. Benning.  Thank you so much for everything you do.  I was honored to be able to entertain you.
I am excited to get back to the big city of Los Angeles, my faith in three chords renewed.
I'll be looking for my Los Angelinos, Los Angelicans, and Los Souls to join me at Hotel Cafe this month EVERY WEDNESDAY at 9.  Should be, in the words of Don Cornelius, a "stone cold gas".

My last blog was extra link heavy,
so i'll just leave you with one this time ------------------->R.I.P. Michael

peace, love.

I found the "post new blog" button on my myspace page again!

It's been SO long.

I have this thing that I do where I wonder who really wants to know about what's going on in my world anyway which results in Blog Silence which is then followed by me writing (typing actually) extremely long sentences void of punctuation that you have to read twice to get what I was trying to say in the first place.
I'm taking medicine for it though.

So......
I'm headed to Pittsburgh, PA on Saturday to play (open) a show with the talented and gracious Indigo Girls at the Carnegie Music Hall of Homestead on Sunday.  I reconnected with the Girls this past year on Cayamo and I'm really looking forward to playing and seeing them play. Their new record is badass.

After that I'm off to a river house near the Chatahoochee River to write and record for a new David Ryan Harris record.  (I know that last sentence seems like I was talking about myself in third person, but David Ryan Harris didn't really see any way around it). I have every intention of filming some of it so that you can see the progress, but don't hold me to it.  There's something weird about taping yourself when you're all alone........at least that what David says.

I'm gonna take a break from my self imposed writing exile to play The Loft in lovely Midtown TheAttle (Rhymes with Seattle).  I like saying "TheAtlle" more than "The A-T-L".  Try it.
Again.
Cool, huh?
You can use it if you like (and I know you do).
Anyway, that show is on Friday The 26th at 8:30.  I'll be joined by JJ Johnson on drums and Sean Hurley on bass.  Good times.

After that.....the three of us are heading to Fort Benning to play a show with Edwin McCain for the troops and anyone close enough to hear it.

After THAT, I'm back to Los Angeles and reprising my residency at Hotel Cafe on Wednesdays in July.

I don't really know what happens after that, but if the medicine works, I'll let you know what's on my schedule as soon as I find out.

peace.

Start your engines folks, set your vacations to cruise control, and get ready for the greatest five days of your lives. The Rock Boat Niner has been designated for assignment! Be prepared to rock out with your good buddy David Ryan Harris, joined by your host Sister Hazel alongside Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers, Aslyn, Carbon Leaf, Cowboy Mouth, Gaelic Storm, Green River Ordinance, Hanson, The Kin, Sam Thacker, Michael Tolcher, Zac Brown Band and many more amazing acts to be confirmed., sing along 'til you're hoarse, and party 'til the sun comes up with friends you'll never forget.

Rolling out of Miami on Saturday January 17th, The Rock Boat IX will make a pit stop in Nassau, followed by a visit to beautiful Half Moon Cay, then return to home base on Thursday January 22nd.

This will all go down onboard the Carnival Destiny, where you'll be able to witness truck loads of live performances on five stages, enjoy 24-hour room service, a full casino, plenty of pools, and more bars than you can shake a stick at!

In between the musical action, you'll be able to join in high-octane events like the Flip Cup Tournament (last year we had 32 teams, each with custom uniforms), Open Mic Night, and the now-infamous Rock Boat Confessional (last year's tape has been deemed illegal in 23 of the 50 states).

The Rock Boat IX general on sale has begun. There are less than 80 cabins remaining for sale! Available cabins start at $859* per person based on double occupancy.

Check out www. therockboat. com .. .. for a full artist line-up and booking details.

Hope to see you all there!
Over and OUT.

Hey friends-

We've been in touch with myspace about 100+ people literally being wiped off the myspace over night. If you're one of them, rest assured we did not delete you and we're working on fixing the problem. In the meanwhile, please re-add yourself to the page and we'll get you back on the list in no time.

Thanks for your understanding!

Even though this is supposed to be the first newsletter of the new year, I am writing it as though it is the last newsletter of the old year. I'll level with you, I'm still cleaning up 2007 and the way I see it, you can't really say that 2007 is over until the trash people make the first pick up of 2008 anyway.
2008 is gonna start with a flurry of activity from the man with three names, so hold on tight because I'm like those storms in the midwest wrapped up in a Muhammad Ali press conference multiplied times Dennis Miller's monologue on cocaine (except you might actually understand more than one of my references unlike the Dennis Miller onslaught):
First, I'm off to the land down under to start work on a record with/for this uber talented guy, Guy Sebastian. I'll be producing and writing and engineering and programming and playing and making coffee. My new year's resolution is to better multi-task, so I'm going at it hard because I'm sure I'll fizzle out sometime in early March.

After Oz, its Rockboat Time.
January 19- 24.
A cruise ship. A bunch of bands. 5 days of music. Meet and Greet. Gambling Lite. Work on a buzz. Get Off Ship. Repeat. Actually, the "repeat" comes later. Don't read ahead, just remember I told you so
.
Then, Starring in this month's "Guess Who's Coming To New York City?", it's none other than...................drum roll, please........DRH. Yup, i'll bring my one-man-solo-acoustic-all ages-extravaganza to the Highline Ballroom January 26th at 7:30pm. I'm sure NYC is gonna feel cold after sailing the Carribean, so bring your crew, I'll need body heat.

After that, its "D.R.H. vs S.O.B." on January 27th.
Not down with acronyms?
Not down with O.P.P.?
okay, i'll break it down......David Ryan Harris will bring said solo acoustic extravaganza to Smith's Olde Bar in Atlanta, Georgia on January 27th, 2008 (only this time, it isn't all ages)

Tired yet?
Good, because next we have "David Ryan Harris Eats Ham".
That's right, I'm gonna burn up I-20 West so I can (quiet) storm Birmingham, AL. (and I love switching from 1st to 3rd person like a real crazy person). January 30th. All Ages. Workplay Theater. Birmingham, AL. Be there. Don't Mess This Up. There hasn't been a DRH show in Birmingham since the September when we were still hating on Katrina.

Now repeat step 2, only this time its The MayerCraft Carrier and it only lasts for 4 days. Feb 1-4. I'll play a set with my band (including JJ Johnson, Michael Chaves and Sean Hurley) Plus, for bonus points, I'll play with John Mayer in his band like three times or something. (bonus points=job security). Tickets/Cabins are still available. (http://www.mayercraftcarrier.com)
Now I'm getting a little tired.

Its a good thing that the next step in my flurry of activities is back to the time tested "sit your tired ass in a chair and play solo acoustic guitar again" format, because Feb 4-10 will find me (full of dramamine) aboard Cayamo, A five day floating singer-songwriter-y type cruise thing-y. I'll be there with artists like Lyle Lovett, Emmylou Harris, John Hiatt, Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin and Brandi Carlile. I think I even get to keep my same cabin from the Mayercraft Carrier!
And guess what?
(what?)
Tickets/Cabins are available for this too! (http://www.cayamo.com)

After that......
I'll probably throw up.
alot.

What a way to start '08, huh?

see you soon.

I came into this blog fully intending on writing my thoughts on the (chilly) evening down in charming Santa Monica at the Temple Bar-- but truly, does anyone else do it better than your friend and mine, Mr. Scotty Crowe? I didn't think so.

Repost from the Scotty Crowe blogosphere is below-- Oh, and for those who asked, he didn't throw down this as promised. Sorry to disappoint you. Take it up with him Monday at the Hotel Cafe.

DO YOU WANT MORE?!!!??!
DRH, TEMPLE BAR, SANTA MONICA, 11-17-07

David Ryan Harris and BOOYAHWHATCHA-CHING (see below) hit the stage last night at Temple Bar in Santa Monica, CA -

For You*

All I Need (Everything's Not Lost)

Turn Around

Sweetest Berry**

Pretty Girl (The Most Beautiful Girl in the World, You Send Me, Natural Woman, Let's Get it One)

Used to This

Hold My Fire

Yesterday Shutting Down**

can he get an encore, do you want more?

If I Had A Dime

all songs performed by BOOYAHWHATCHA-CHING (DRH, Michael Chaves, Sean Hurley, JJ Johnson, and the new addition of Chris Lovejoy on percussion) except:

*DRH solo electric

**BOOYAHWHATDENCHA-CHING (add a dash of Bob Reynolds to make it extra tasty)

So, it's a Temple Bar sandwich on Hotel Cafe bread this month - our boys posted it up 11 blocks from the beach and pretty much tore the place down. With JJ and Bob still hanging out in LA, it was another crowded stage of all-stars. Chris Lovejoy jumped in the mix tonight, adding all kinds of things from his neverending bag of tricks (he's like Gallagher over there...except good). I'm not gonna lie, I feel like my toes were a little stepped on when he broke out the triangle in YESTERDAY SHUTTING DOWN, but I'll make it. Let's hear it for a sweet Summer 2001 reference!

Bob killed it on SWEETEST BERRY - best I've ever heard the tune. DRH did his thing in HOLD MY FIRE and YESTERDAY before the crowd brought the dudes back for the first IF I HAD A DIME of the month. Of the season, even.

All in all, a fantastic little night. I think we downsize to BOOYAH tomorrow night at Hotel Cafe, but you don't have to take my word for it.
