Hello. Long time no blog. Quick catch up on all things WSL. WE WILL HAVE AN ALBUM READY SOON!!!!! Craig, Stephen and the boys are beavering away down in The Depot Studio putting the finishing touches on "Ghosts and Monsters". A Call to Arms, which will be on the album, is already up, and more wil be up very soon!
Apart from this, we are looking forward to gigs and festival season! We've been asked to play Go North, which is awesome-tastic and prior to that we are having a wee venture up north which we are awfy excited about, although finding accomodation in Wick is proving to be nightmareous, so if anyone wants to offer us 5 beds we will be in them before you can say "No you dinny!".
Just also want to say thanks so much to Martin for asking us to play at Sick Kids Sunday yesterday, brilliant to play at something a)so worthwhile and b) so well organised!
Gid Work Martin!!
Anyway, ciao for now,
WSL xx

Good afternoon!

It's snowing! It's snowing! Amazing! When we walk outside it's like opening the fridge door!

Yes, we are in Toronto playing some, as they call it, "shows"! We played last night at the Horseshoe Tavern (which we were told is their equivalent to King Tuts). It was a great gig - seemed to go down well despite some heckling from the punters for us to speak English (the Scottish accents may have been too thick after 24 hours on the go and a few beers).

Allan and I currently sitting in the hotel "business centre". There are men here on phones and doing deals!

Allan and I are going to buy Allan swimming trunks this morning so that he can swim in the outdoor pool!

Allan and I wish you all the best!

Allan and I are going to have some breakfast!

Bye.

Oh another gig tonight! Awesome.

Okay so quick wee update.

We are off to Canada to play Canadian Music Week! While everyone else is down at SXSW we will be up playing in the cold city of Tornoto - that's how we like it. It's where we wanted to go. Canadian music is amazing and we are really excited to be invited to be part of it!

The album is nearly finished! We promise. The tracks are now back from Chem19 and Rogass at the Depot is mixing them as we speak. We hope to get some of the tracks up on the myspace in the next few weeks. We have finished Call to Arms, Ghost and Monsters and Winter Bloom - we are so excited about this. It looks like the end of April/May time for the release. Although Kenny wants to launch it like a rocket so he is talking about months of prep before it's released - we'll sneak it out before it's launched into space though!

We have also moved into our shared practice room with Chutes. It has lockers, lots of nice gear and a blackboard! We write love notes to Chutes. They draw obscene pictures.

Also we played at King Tuts with Ra Ra Riot last week which was awesome! Thank you to all our friends for coming along!

Cheerio!
Steveo!

Last night I ran home from Leith. It wasn't a long run. I live in Leith. I was on my way back from a rather delightful afternoon which matured into an even more pleasurable evening.

On my way home the cars was frosted and the streets were quiet. In the frost, on the car windows, I wrote: "love her more intensely"; "love!peace!joy"; "tell her now"; "love the idea" - I was pretty hammered. I wrote these statements with my nail. It was cold and I was worried that I would be seen but completely giddy with ebullient feelings!

This morning I woke up and put my suit on and went to work. It was cold, I was hungover and I was tired. I went to work tired. I sent a girl a text. I waited for a response. No response.

Yesterday afternoon I was brimming with excitement. I was going to meet all the Lights for a drink in Leith. I had all these ideas that I wanted to tell the guys about: this year I want (want us) to write a book of poetry and get it illustrated. I want to get as many musicians together to record songs at the Depot with Craig - call it Home. I want to go up north in summer and record more music in complete isolated concentration (I want people to hear what we recorded this summer). I want to finish this album and let as many people hear it. I want it to grow and radiate the summer we had this year; the relationships that were broken this year; the new relationships (friendships and romantic) that we discovered this year. I want to practice tonight so that we can play my new song, Scot Poetry.

But here is the plan:

1. Start gigging again.
2. Put the finishing touches on the album.
3. Get the album mastered.
4. Get the album out.
5. Do more festivals.
6. Go to Canadian Music week.
7. Write more honest, better sounding songs.
8. Don't stand still.

Last night I went out for a drink with all of the band (We See Lights); Ross came back from London and came straight from the airport to meet us. Johnny got two trains and a bus to come. Craig finished work early to come. We all meet up and argued, discussed, cuddled, made plans, forgot plans and drank in Leith. Yesterday was a great day! It made me change my priorities. Im now nervous in the same way that a boy gets anxious when he tells a girl he loves her when he is drunk! I'm scared that I have now said too much...

Love

The guitars which require electricity are done!

It's funny how songs have different characters. Some are helpful, generous, forgiving, enthusiastic and gregarious. Some songs welcome you into their life. They ruffle your hair and give you a pat on the bum and then you're on your way. Some songs are not like that, though. It's like they don't even like you. It's like they don't even want you to play them. It's like they just want to be left alone in a cupboard watching dvds of weird dudes flying around speaking Japanese or something. (Sorry Johnny!) Anyway, these songs know who they are. And I have but one thing to say to them: YOU MAY THINK YOU HAVE WON, BUT OUR GUITARS CAN BE COMPED SO HARD YOU'LL WISH YOU WERE NEVER BORN.

Allan has been linked romantically with Annie Clark, also known as St. Vincent, as he has been seen with her recenty in LA. Whether this is true or not the band and Allan would like to ask people to respect their privacy and to let love flourish!

It has also been noted that Stephen has been getting up to romantic antics - offering flowers, poetry and a whole of other romantic paraphernalia - this burst of Autumn enthusiasm is bizzare and worrying his fellow band mates. Please if you are approached by Stephen with anything romantically tainted then please contact Paul Dougall who will remind him that hearts are to be broken and admiration left unspoken. Stephen however stands by it his antics maintaining that he is inspired by the dark nights. He claims to have started writing a song about these subjects.

Johnny Baggs, keyboard player and harmoniser, has recently been on the receiving end of a sharp inked-needle which has led to a tattoo appearing on his left breast. It appears that Johnny Baggs has permanently marked his body with a piece of We See Lights branding - a We See Lights tattoo. Fellow band mates of Johnny are unsure whether this tattoo - or that tat as it is now known - was an attempt to secure Johnny Baggs perpetual/guaranteed membership in We See Lights. Children are warned not to follow Johnny Baggs in this self tatting.

We have this weekend commenced the second stage of recording our album. We recorded several tracks whilst away up north this summer and are attempting to do the rest at Chem19. Here is a non-exhaustive list of tracks we are recording:

Sing In Your Own Voice
Spring's First Song
Knives
Lost Empires
A Safer Sound
Parachute
Loose Lips Sink Ships
Ghosts and Monsters
Elucidation
A Call to Arms
Winter Bloom

Many of these tracks will sound bigger than what we have previously recorded; in part this is because we are now a much bigger entity than we were when we last recorded, and also because we are more assured.

We will hopefully get Parachute (one of the tracks we have already finished recording) up on the myspace soon (possibly tonight) - it will also be made available to buy soon (SJ has done some great artwork for it). We are aiming to have the album finished, mastered, pressed and available by the end of January. This is all terribly exciting but does mean that we will be in the studio every weekend from now until the start of December.
