being interconnected with all things vis a vis electron vibration can often be challenging. sure, things change no matter what type of effort we put into it. ultimately entropy sets in. it wins. in the meantime, we are attempting to fight against the ruthless oppression of the heat death of the universe. in doing so, we define ourselves, create meaning, and assemble order to the mysterious universe.
we must be honest in the process. more honest than we are comfortable with. we must make ourselves uncomfortably honest. this is the way that we can come from a place of integrity. what are we integrating? glad you asked. our whole self. our good, bad, happy, sad, shameful, fearful, joyous, angry, and on and on. we integrate those feelings with our knowledge of the natural order of things, and what do you have? a whole person.
cynisism is for teenagers and give uppers. we are not give uppers. we will try until the day that the universe tells us that our bodies no longer work. and we will have made the world a better place.
culture is a valuable mirror for our perceptions. however, if we only trust it, we ignore the wisdom of what lies beyond the mirror.... the natural world. what wisdom, what beauty the natural world can give to us. it is far more mysterious and beautiful than our greatest thinkers have ever imagined. we are only beginning to understand its vastness.
our vanity is the cause of our myopic vision. let us break down the walls of our collective ego and join hands in a quest to bring about positive meaningful, conscious living.
we will try. we hope you will too.

love,

Questions: Why do we create art? Because we have to? Because we enjoy doing it? Because we want attention? Because we want money? Why do you create art? Where do your ideas come from? When you write a song, do you use the same old chord progressions every time? Did you steal them from someone else? Do you really have something worth saying? How much time do you spend on your art? Less time than you spend surfing the net? Less time than you spend watching TV? Solutions: Let’s start referencing our own lives instead of other art. Let’s stop making songs that sound like a mix between outkast and the beach boys. Let’s make songs that sound like how we feel. The good and the bad, lonely and sad, joyous, full of energy, sex crazed, needy, and full of fears. Let’s concentrate on the feelings, and wait with patience, for the ideas to come. Let’s spend hours in the presence of our friends and collaborators waiting for inspiration. Let’s be honest with ourselves when an idea is not original and doesn’t stand up to the standard of beauty and complexity we require in the music we love. Let’s not settle. Let’s strive for greatness. Not the kind of greatness that will necessarily produce commercial success, but don’t run away from it either. If you know that the music you create is true to yourself, don’t worry if people call you a sell out. Drummers need to listen to the rhythms in their body and to the rhythms of the earth. Melody makers need to craft, note for note, the songs and stories they hear in their heads. Don’t settle for letting a chord progression dictate your melody. We are all talented. Every person is gifted. It is commitment, dedication, work ethic, which separates art and hobby. Please don’t make music and art a hobby.

So, Modernity is a little overwhelming. don'tcha think? or maybe not? how are you getting along? does it matter? do we matter? are we here to be a vessel for the evolution of higher consciousness? or are we just here by chance. purely a coincidence. i cry everytime i listen to the song "its getting heavy for superman" by the flaming lips. know why? if you do, then we are connected. in our thoughts and feelings. if you don't, that's ok too, i'd love to talk with you about it sometime. my my its such a boy thing to ponder the meaning and purpose of reality. girls must think we're a bunch of moody brooders. women seem more connected to purpose because in their initial design, they are constantly reminded that nature must take its course, beyond our control. at work, i have an easier time typing words on the screen, than i do looking in the eyes of my fellow workers and telling them my honest feelings. why is this? is this a new generational thing? or is it some sort of indication of where our humanity is heading? into the virtual world where we can immediatly create our own mythology. we are all rock stars on the internet. we generate hype. move people to places. and move ideas across the planet. we are virtual gods. and yet, somewhere deep within us, we are still frail. still hurting. still dealing with the painful aspects of reality. freud believed that our ego strength was a function of how well we deal with those painful aspects. i think i believe that as well. will our ego strength disappear as we create myths about ourselves in the virtual realm? or will it only be inflated as we start to believe the myth? or let's just party! or lets get fucked up! no. unfortunately, the reality of reality is something we can't transcend. either through heightened feelings of euphoria, or through escaping into altered forms of consciousness. there are still bellies to feed. people to clothe. homes to build. societies to maintain. wars to stop. pain to minimize. pleasure to maximize. we can either be a part of that ongoing evolution, or we can fool ourselves into believing that we are apart from it. but if we all are apart from it, then we have evolved into incompetent animals. animals that no longer know how to feed ourselves, stay alive, deal with pain, protect our families from external threats. will we evolve into ultimately useless animals who know longer see ourselves as part of nature, but convince ourselves through our internal logic mythology that we have somehow become divine and exempt from the laws of the natural world. as soon as we buy into that myth, we become less able to adapt to our surroundings, and thus we become more likely not to survive. as a species. will this generation continue in building the world's largest house of cards? we hope not. we hope that as a rule, you live for the future, not just living for it by looking forward to it, but by living for it in your actions. living as if we are building a fundamentally good and wholesome place to procreate and maintain our species. living for our children's children's ad infinitum. will you join us in living for the future? your lives may not depend on it. but someone's life, eventually will. start here. and now. with open exchange. open dialogue. about your feelings. your thoughts. your dreams. your hopes. your hurts. your whatevers. or not. we still love you. big fresh www.joybombs.com www.myspace.com/bigfresh

so, we're going to have a go at this whole internet blogging thing. if you can't beat em, join em. i have all sorts of nasty judgments about our culture's narcissism when it comes to places like myspace, friendster, blogspot, etc., but i guess i need to accept the potential for great good and serious interconnectedness through these type websites. so instead of pointing fingers, we shall raise up mirrors.... we, big fresh, not just the idea, but the band, as a collective, and as individuals, have lots of pain in our lives. lots of insecurities that we deal with. lots of petty self doubt. lots of self contempt. lots of anger at others. lots of feelings of loss of control. lots of feeling of "can't control the things around me." so, how do we deal with this? how do we cope? is it silly to talk of such things? or should we only talk of such things? our conclusion is this.... we can't really connect with other people, until we are honest with the people we are, honest about the decisions we make, honest about the thoughts we have, honest about the feelings we have. we think the last one is key. we must be honest about our feelings. otherwise we begin to seperate our feelings from our judgments about feelings. and our poor little brains are just not up for that task. this creates in us, different people. we are different people at different times. but we, big fresh, believe it is possible to integrate all the different selves we have created into one, spiritually whole being. one who is awake. one who is conscious. one who is present. how? good question. start with daily exercise. then move on to eating healthy foods. then once you have that down, start to meditate and clear your mind from the noise and superfluous data that our culture beams at your mind. once you have that down, start to feel in your body where your feelings are located. some will feel in the gut, some will feel in the chest, some will feel in the neck, some around the head....different feelings for different folks, but nonetheless, they are present in our bodies affecting us in either very positive or very negative ways. once you have identified the feeling and its location, simply try to get in touch with that feeling. feel the feeling. do not pass judgments on your feeling. just feel it. only then, can you start to forgive yourself for feeling that way, or start to understand the underlying motivations of your daily decisions. so, more on this later. a lot to process here. but we're starting in the right direction. tomorrow is a new day full of wonderful possibilities and full of life. a life that you can live fully and completely. conscious and awake. we love you, Big Fresh www.joybombs.com www.myspace.com/bigfresh

its sometimes a challenge to move people with words. i think most of the time that people, at least the people we know, don't like for things to be explained. they would rather take the credit for figuring things out themselves through subtle experience. or maybe i'm just projecting our stuff onto you. who knows. anyway, i like to say things to people that are clear and to the point. so here they are in no particular order. we love you. we really do. we think that love is the one experience that trumps all others. the collective worldmind can be a positive one if we all jump in and go for it. what does that mean? the collective worldmind? i dunno, but i think it sounds good. it sounds to me like all of humanity experiencing the same thoughts and emotions at the same time. in theory, all experiencing the same positive feeling of contentment, happiness, nirvana, whatever you wanna call it. unfortunately, it is a possibility for our collective worldmind to experience the same feeling of terror as we watch our selves blow each other up. this has been the case for many in our world. how sad. how sad that we wallow in our fear instead of trudging through the pain to get past it. it hurts, but its worth it. there is a way to feel less pain. there is a way to love more people. there is a way to have happiness. it is in ourselves, we only have to try. and so, we, big fresh, are trying. if you see us not trying, call us out on it. we need to be called out on our shit. we have thick skin so don't worry about it. just give us a big hug and tell us you love us back. we love you. don't judge us. just hug us. we hurt too. just like you. you can have real joy in your lives. we have it and we want to give you some of it. april 30th @ artsplace 8pm w/ ariel pink and animal collective.
