word is that our songs are all over the place on terrestrial radio this week; you should totally request that your favorite station give us a spin...if you do, maybe we'll be able to come to an indie rock club near you and work our wonky ways wildly. misty pointed out the other day that simply watching the crawl at the bottom of any of the cable news networks is flat-out terrifying, and she's right...the news is taking on disaster-movie proportions again...makes one grateful for the cartoon channel. mitch easter and embarrassing fruits are both going to play our release party for "Shower The People You Love With Gold" (i've taken to thinking of it as 'stipplewig' to avoid having to say all that in my head) at Local 506 on Thursday the 26th...friends, bandmates, even a mom or two are going to be streaming into town over the next few days, giving this late-february time usually devoted to total blahness a nice festive air... glen at Local 506 is one of my favorite local club owners, and not just because i watched him make eight thousand drinks without stopping during the transvestites' show a few weeks ago...he was even nice about not making me feel like a dumbass for mistaking the framed photo of pete townshend behind the bar for a framed photo of ray davies. i might have been inclined to be less forgiving than he was. glen rocks. the next month is going to be very exciting, with lots of travel and shows and pizza and late-night hotel-television surfing...rich and i are always looking for the next hysterical televangelist to make fun of at 4am...bonus points if they speak in tongues. we're hopefully coming to a city near you to make the noise and eat your pizza...and that's not an overture unless you want it to be. listen to "I Am A Waterfall" and try and tell me Jason Hall and his e-bow aren't the hottest thing since Jog Bra Season was instituted in Chapel Hill...it runs may to september and makes driving down airport road kinda dicey. be well, stay in touch, listen to the album, and post witty ripostes below... bryan

After all the snow melted off of my porch yesterday I noticed a myriad
of cardboard boxes left by some mysterious, benevolent, brown-clad
benefactor. CDs!!!!!! We have the new album in hand! It looks
great! Save for one glaring inequity. The cover background, for the
album heretofore known as "Shower the People You Love With Gold," was somehow printed in one of the most vivid shades of orange
you have ever seen. We are not sure what to do at this point. Reprint
the inserts, or just change the name of the album to "Shower the People
You Love With Florida Gold." Though, I have a nagging voice telling me
that might result in some litigious engagements with certain citrus
squeezing magnates. Whatever happens, we are getting really pumped
about the road before us. Literally and metaphorically.
We are not officially releasing the new album until February. It
would be best if you all forgot about everything you just read until
then.

It's Stuffing Day! and, oh, yeah.... the release party
It's STILL cold!!!!!! The only upside to that is that the snow still hasn't melted. No equatorial mammal should EVER have to experience these temperatures. Leave that to the polar bears and arctic seals. Is it some sort of evolutionary JOKE that we were, quite literally, genetically "stripped" of all our fur somewhere along our prodigous climb up the ladder?! At a bleary eyed 7:00 I dragged my monkey ass out of bed, knocked the icicles off my eyebrows, and brewed a pot of joe. Coffee cures all. Who is this Joe character and why is every morning brew dedicated to him? If anyone has an answer please enlighten me.
The CD release party is coming up at Local 506 on February 26th. We could not possibly be more excited. The, dare I say, legendary Mitch Easter and the immenently talented band Embarrassing Fruits graciously agreed to share the stage with us. We have had sort of a hiatus from the real world of touring, playing shows, and going to shows lately with all the work we've been doing to finish "Shower" and prepare for the upcoming album release. Luckily for us we have a group of highly dedicated friends helping out with all the printing and stuffing and sticking and stapling and random shenanigans that are required to get all this promotional stuff out the door. They have all agreed to brave the cold to come to our house today for a "help us with this seemingly insurmountable task" party. To all of you faithful few, thank you. From the bottom of my heart.
cd release coming. cd release party coming. tour coming. Life is good. Will keep you posted.
Jason

i read somewhere that when it gets cold enough, your breath will freeze as you exhale and fall to the ground as ice. it's not quite that cold here in north carolina, but single-digit temperatures make the difference seem academic. the holidays are over, the new year's been rung in (it was definitely a major key-- E, i'm pretty sure), and oh-nine, as it will be known, is underway-- kemper thinks next year should be known as "oh-ten", and i concur. things aren't what they used to be, which is wholly good, but they aren't quite what they're going to be, either, which is also kind of good. hope springs infernal in the human stressed.
rolling stone had a feature on ambien tripping. they also made me want to buy the new pavement and rem reissues. this after britney on the cover and an article praising kanye as 'this generation's prince.' are they huffing kerosene? do they think kanye can even approach 'let's pretend we're married'? i only read it because cassi left it on the counter at work and there's no more david sedaris that i haven't read and i didn't feel like plowing the rest of the way through american tragedy even though wendy won't leave me alone until i do. and, for some reason, i can only focus on this andrew jackson biography in the middle of the night in bed-- never at work.
'i am a waterfall', a song off our upcoming record, is available on the innerwebs. jason hall's e-bow is now a worldwide institution. space, even. dreamed i was drinking ny-quil and when i woke up, i was asleep. i know that owsley's gone to queensland to make wearable art, but you'd think someone woulda stepped in to fill the void. pun intended.

I am very happy to say that the new Western Civ album, produced and engineered by Mitch Easter is fully mixed and ready to go to mastering and replication!! I am extremely happy with the results and can't wait to share it!! That said, we are not going to officially release it until Jan. 2009, at the suggestion of our PR folks. I'm going to have a hard time waiting that long, but they seem to know what they are doing, so I guess I'll have to contain myself! I'm going to attempt to leak a track or two before then and we are taking pre-orders right now! If you want to put your name on the list drop me an e-mail at: mistydawn(at)westerncivrock.com BTW...thanks again for all the pre-orders, the list is really getting a lot bigger than I expected! You guys ROCK!!! :) I'll have more info and details soon! Till Then, Misty Dawn Manager, Western Civ www.westerncivrock.com
