Current mood:  happy
As you may already know, this weekend is the GA sales tax holiday. We don't actually get a tax break from the state, but we wanted to play anyway so we made up our own discount.

Come into the store and shop till your heart's content. Mention that you are one of our Myspace friends when you're ready to check out and receive 10% off your purchases from now until 7:00pm Sunday, August 2nd. Easy!

(Some restrictions apply: No discounts on tickets, gift cards, consignments, or stuff marked at dollar or less, like used dollar LPs/CDs and dollar bin comics. Also, this "holiday" discount cannot be combined with any other discounts or special offers.)

Aaaaaaaaand...

If you haven't already, please vote for please vote for Criminal Records, Aurora Coffee, and all your favorite locally and independently owned businesses (venues, restaurants, boutiques, and what-have-you) in the Creative Loafing
Best Of Atlanta 2009 poll --> http://bestofatlanta.technomile.com/bestofatlanta.php [copy and paste that URL into your browser if the link doesn't work]

Filling out the ballot doesn't take long (and you only have to vote in 10 categories -- heck, I think you can legitimately vote for Criminal Records in, like, 7 categories alone!), and it helps new people find out about us (and about other cool stuff in Atlanta). Surely, there are at least 10 things you like about living in Atlanta, right? Well, go on and share!

Thanks,
Team Criminal

Due to an overwhelming repsonse from the public, Criminal Records has had to modify how it will handle the upcoming Mastodon in-store performance on Tuesday, March 24th.  The store will be closed (for a brief time) at 8 pm, so that we may re-organize to enhance our customers enjoyment of the show.  Upon re-opening, customers that have a Criminal Records receipt from purchase of "Crack The Skye" will be given priority to enter the store.  Also, due to space constraints and security concerns we will limit the number of people allowed in the store to 300.  Thanks for your understanding.

This Saturday (3/21) Criminal and Tall Stax will be co-hosting our second record show – The Vernal Vinyl Equinox.  It’ll be the second day of Spring and the perfect time to get together with all of your vinyl-loving buddies (who probably need some sunlight anyway) and join us at the Highland Inn Ballroom Lounge.  We have over a dozen vendors lined up to bring you the best in used lp’s, singles, and music ephemera.  Doors open at 11 am  and close up at 5 pm.

There’ll be DJs spinning records all day, including the Fringe Factory girls and the men of the Lost Cause.  Plus, there’s a full bar if you need to slake your thirst from all that record buying.  A fantastic and educational time is guaranteed for all. Come and find out why real music fans buy lp's and not "vinyls".  Come discover why the compact disc was inherently flawed from it's inception.  Debate the merits of stereo versus mono, first pressing vs. second, paste-over "Butcher" covers, etc.  See you then!

Can I even TELL you how many things we have going on in the coming weeks? Can I, can I, can I?

Sooooo many, that's how many.

Tomorrow, for one thing, we're doubling up on our Beer-Thirty goodness with not one but two--count 'em TWO--bands. Up first is Young Antiques at 4:00 PM, followed by the Fleshtones (yes, really) at 6:00 PM.

For the rest of our schedule, it's probably just best to list them because a) we just have that many things going on, and b) it'll be easier for you to copy them all on your calendar that way! Ok, here goes...

Thursday, Feb. 12th: Mark Olson & Gary Louris @ 7:00 PM
Saturday, Feb 14th: Heather Luttrell @ 4:30 PM (Valentine's Day Beer-Thirty!)
Saturday, Feb. 21st: DJ Romeo Cologne @ 4:30 PM (Beer-Thirty)
Friday, Feb. 27th: Skeletonwitch and Withered @ 6:00 PM (Pre-Scion Rock Fest awesomeness!)
Tuesday, Mar. 3rd: Wild Light @ 7:00 PM
Saturday, Mar. 7th: Annuals and Howlies @ 4:30 (Beer-Thirty)
Wednesday, Mar. 11th: Clem Snide @ 6:00 PM
Friday, Mar. 13th: Dexter Romweber Duo @ 6:00 PM
Saturday, Mar. 14th: The Flying Eyes and Sodajerk @ 4:30 PM (Beer-Thirty)
Tuesday, Mar. 24th: The Gourds @ 7:00 PM
Wednesday, Mar. 25th: Deer Tick @ 7:00 PM
Saturday, Mar. 28th: Dead Confederate @ 4:30 PM (Beer-Thirty)
Tuesday, Mar. 31st: Langhorne Slim @ 7:00 PM
Saturday, Apr. 25th: Pistolero @ 4:30 PM (Beer-Thirty)

Ok, so, if you've got all those down, please don't forget that Record Store Day is fast approaching! You remember what a party it was last year, don't you? Well, save this date: April 19th, 2009.

Tonight is "GEOLOGY 101"  - the history of rock and roll,  at the Highland Inn Ballroom.  Join your favorite vinyl archaeologists, the Lost Cause DJs, for an evening of rock, roll, and all-around good times.  From Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry to Deep Purple and Thin Lizzy.  Fats Domino to the Fleshtones.  AC/DC to the Minutemen.  All are represented.  Come early.  Stay late.  Dance with wild abandon.  Drink to your heart's desire.  Get the Led out.  Join us tonight from 10 until 2.  See you then.

P.S.  In the wee hours, after much liquid refreshment, the Lost Cause has a tendency to play "novelty" records such as "Nasty Girls" by the Vanity 6 or "They're Coming to Take Me Away" by Napoleon XIV.  Consider yourself warned and feel free to get silly.

P.P.S. Tomorrow-ish, expect an in-depth update on some freakin' amazing in-stores and Beer-Thirty shows we have coming up!

Due to overwhelming public (and private) demand, the Lost Cause DJs will bring "Geology 101" back to the Highland Inn this evening.  Get ready for 4 hours of rock and roll madness from 10pm to 2am!  The men of the Lost Cause cut a wide wide swath when it comes to "rock" music, so be prepared.  This is not a specialty show with narrow parameters.  These crate-diggers could go off on a power-pop tangent, a long-haired seventies rock stoner jam, punk rock detour, a jaunty metal divergence or a full-blown psychedelic guitar freak-out.  That's what makes it so fun.  The records take you on their own journey.  Join us won't you - for a cold beverage and some searing hot music!  See you tonight.
