New Watermill Video
Hello,
I hope the summer has been treating you well.
For the past few months, engineer Ryan Ball and I have been working on final mixes for my new CD, the result of a collaboration at Robert Wilson's Watermill Center with poet John William Carroll and an eclectic group of musicians. The mixes sound amazing. Ryan is doing an incredible job.
Meanwhile, filmmaker Mark Robert Jackson has been organizing footage for a documentary about the making of our CD during our Watermill residency. To give you a preview of the sights and sounds, we have edited some of that footage to one song - "The Gull and I."
xo,
Reuben.

The Gull and I
© 2008 John William Carroll
I almost missed him, white
on white, but for that startle,
less than fright, that tells
me something else is sensible nearby.
We shared a snowy rock, the dying gull and I.
Only the slow opening and closing
of a yellow eye signaled more life
was left in him to ebb away.
He faced the sea -- gun gray and white the sky -- his colors.
Wind ruffled the feathers along his back;
he made no move to preen.
One wing slid from his side
like a shawl from a shoulder.
Snow fell into the sea and melted.
Snow fell onto his feathers and stayed.
The eye died open, unafraid.

Hello Folks, This music video was conceived by my friend, filmmaker Mark Robert Jackson, and I over a cup of tea. Mark filmed, directed and edited this music video. We had a little makeshift crew for the San Francisco sequences. Thanks to Sandra Butchart (Reuben's mom), Brian Gambogi, and Shannon Stearns. For the New York sequences we got help from Henry B. Lee and Katherine Nauman. Special thanks to Joe Birdsong for letting us use the Rapture Cafe window in the East Village. Listen to other songs from the Golden Boy album on my website: reubenbutchart.comThanks, Reuben.
