Tuesday, July 01, 2008
The Tribe ended their season on a high note with a 49-0 victory over division rival, Iowa Crush to go 4-4 on the season.

Tiara Burns 40 scored the first TD for the team, on a 5 yard run set up by two first down passes from Jenny Schmidt 23 to Rusty Sowers 20. After a stop by the Tribe defense, Megan Penrod 10 returned the punt for 30 yards and completed the drive with a 3 yard rushing TD.

Vanessa Villegas 36 intercepted the ball on the next defensive series to pave the way for a 27 yard touchdown pass from Schmidt to Stephanie Campbell 88. Later in the first half, Layne Anonsen 44 picked off the ball and Schmidt capitalized on the turnover with a 56 yard TD connection with Villegas.

Penrod scored her second touchdown of the evening on a 13 yard pass from Schmidt. Sowers caught a 12 yard pass in the third yet another 6 points, and Heather Furnish capped off the victory with a 10 yard TD reception from Schmidt.

Defensively, the Tribe played strong a steady all game. Mindy White 12 and Angela Mabrie 11 also added interceptions, and Anonsen, White and Agbaje led the way with tackles, with 8,7, and 6 respectively.

A heartfelt thanks goes out to all our fans and sponsors from the 2008 season!

After rain delays postponed the start of the game, things looked promising after Megan Penrod recovered the opening kick-off from an onside kick by Amanda Sweeten. However, the Tribe offense failed to capitalize on the recovery. A botched punt snap led to the Wolves starting their initial drive inside the 30 yard line, and resulted in a quick score. Wisconsin added a second touchdown within a few minutes to go ahead 13-0.

The Tribe defense responded by holding the Wolves scoreless the final three quarters, however it was simply too late. Although the Tribe offense came to life after halftime, they couldn't quite get over the early deficit.

Jenny Schmidt connected with Rusty Sowers for a touchdown in the third quarter. After another defensive stop allowed the offense to drive down the field. A third down completion from Schmidt to Mindy White and a 20 yard sweep by Megan Penrod put the team inside the red zone. However, an offensive penalty pushed the team back, and time simply ran out before the team could finish a comeback.

Despite fighting the good fight, the Tribe came up short against the three time National Champion Dallas Diamonds.  Dallas scored their first TD in this first quarter after capitalizing on a bad punt snap inside the 25 yard line.  Dallas added another TD midway through the second quarter to go up 14-0.  KC responded after half with an 86 yard Interception for a Touchdown by Angela Mabrie.  Dallas added another 7 point in the third quarter, to make the score 21-7.

The Tribe again rallied back with a full field drive ending with a TD pass from Jenny Schmidt to Rusty Sowers, the PAT was partially blocked, making the game 21-13.  Dallas added a final score near the end of the game to make it 28-13.

The Tribe played Dallas far better than any team all year, and made a vast improvement over their Game 1 loss to the Diamonds.

Despite early defensive stands, the Tribe offense and special teams units were plagued by turnovers and the unrelenting Demolition rush.  The defending national champs proved too much for the Tribe to handle.  The final score was 38-0.
Monday, May 12, 2008
Quarterback Jenny Schmidt connected with receiver Rusty Sowers for all three Tribe scores, one coming in each of the initial three quarters.

The Tribe defense made some spectacular plays down the stretch, capped off by interceptions by Sowers and Layne Anonsen. Mindy White and Layne Anonsen led the defense in tackles.

The Tribe returns to Kansas City May 17th against the defending National Champion Detroit Demolition. Kickoff is 6 p.m. at Bishop Miege High School.

Monday, May 05, 2008
Megan Penrod scored the lone Tribe touchdown in the second quarter on a seven yard scamper through the middle.

Despite being plagued by penalties, the Tribe defense held the Iowa Crush scoreless through four quarters. Linebackers Layne Anonsen and Mindy White led the charge with 7 tackles each. Adejoke Abbaje finished with two and a half sacks. Angela Mabrie, Rusty Sowers and Mindy White each added an interception.

Over 400 fans were on hand to watch the Kansas City Tribe (1-1) defeat the Iowa Crush (0-2) 19-6 on April 19th at Bishop Miege High School. Everyone enjoyed the Backyard Burgers and the new Chico Thunder TD Pack Band, which will be playing at all the home games.

The Tribe scored their first TD of the season in the first quarter off an eight yard run by 32, fullback Lindsay Davis. KC's new quarterback, 23 Jenny Schmidt, added a TD in the second quarter with a two yard sneak, which was set up by a 47 yard pass play to 20 Rusty Sowers.

Iowa answered with a 20 yard TD pass in the second quarter, to go in to the half with a score of 13-6. Schmidt added the exclamation point in the victory with a seven yard TD pass to 3 Tiffany Schweigert, after a botched field goal attempt.

The Tribe defense had two interceptions, one by defensive back, 11 Angela Mabrie, and the second by middle linebacker, 44 Layne Anonsen, who also led the team in tackles, with 10.

After a bye week, the Tribe returns to action on May 3rd. Come out and join the fun May 17th, when the Tribe returns to Kansas City to take on the defending National Champions, the Detroit Demolition.

The Dallas Dimaonds were simply too much for the Tribe team to deal with in the first game of the season.  After a hard fought battle, the Tribe went down 58-0.
