When holiday time rolls around, our family likes to skedaddle. We pick a spot, make reservations, arrange for Steve to use a few of his vacation days, pack our bags and head on out. The last few years, we haven't even traveled far. We figure it's not really the amount of miles you venture, as much as the importance of time spent together and a break away from deadlines, emails, stress and redundancy.

A Letter To My Kids: My Declaration of Acceptance & Love

I had an odd thing happen to me recently. I was eulogized as someone I used to be. I know that sounds odd, because I am me - always have been, always will be. It's true that I have found courage through my years to put others' expectations behind me, striving every day to stay loyal to my heart.

I understand that there are some who will simply never be capable of getting past appearances; will never be able to understand that the blinders of faith are not for everyone; that the dreams of one are not the dreams of all. I get that. I do. It's unfortunate, but it's reality.  I have come to a place in my life where I simply must not dwell on this regrettable actuality. I feel...

I received a message on a social networking site recently from a person who was having a hard time pleasing those around her, while remaining happy within herself and was asking for some advice. It got me thinking that every now and again it doesn't hurt to assess your surroundings and take a look at just where exactly life is taking you.

I was lucky enough to meet John Pyles many years ago through Mike DeVries. We were both clients of Mike's and both had caught the tattoo bug by this point, filling up our skin with portraits and other projects, and sharing each addition with each other along the way.

Not only does John have primo taste when it comes to tattoo artistry choices, but he is also an intelligent guy who is extremely generous and kind to everyone he meets. An art enthusiast himself, John is well-versed in tattoo techniques and loves talking ink at tattoo conventions.
