Prog rock can be a reviewer’s nightmare, because if you express a dislike for a particular piece/band, then those that do like it will stone you to death because ‘you don’t understand it’! Well thankfully, you can put the pebbles down for now, since that doesn’t apply to this Norwich/London amalgamation, because I do like it!

Firstly I have to say, I have real concerns about the current ‘post-rock’ euphoria that seems to be slowly gathering pace, because I fear that most of it will be excuses for elaborate over indulgence and performing passages of music that seem to go on for days on end. I remain firm in the belief that Tangerine Dream fans are only such because of some elitist higher plane of self-envisaged inner perceptiveness (words that only they would pretend to understand). Anyway, enough of all that, because I sense that Into Flight are not looking to skim across such shallow waters.

This is their third EP to date, although the previous one was over two years ago and the first shortly after they got together in 2006 “with the sole intent of making beautiful music”. That philosophy is to be respected and what we have here are four tracks spanning almost 25 minutes that never enters self-indulgence. What it does exude is a passion and belief in what they do, whether you subscribe to it or not. The music is meticulously constructed and has a comfortable flow to it, indicating a team that works well as a unit, with guitars and keyboards sharing, then alternating the forefront. Daniel Hopkinson has a fragile vocal style but it is perfectly cradled by the landscaping melodies, often creating a sound bearing similarity to early Genesis work.

The longest track here is “A Scream For Silence” spanning over ten minutes. It does lose momentum before the close, but manages to hold the listener throughout most of it and, like the other tracks, demonstrates some fine craftsmanship, illustrating a level of proficiency that deserves attention. So check it out those of you who are guilty of the post-rock revival, but please don’t be tempted to investigate Tangerine Dream (who continue to release more albums a year than Into Flight can expect to attain in a lifetime!).

Right, it's been far too long since our last update so i thought i'd let you all know what's been going on in Into Flight land.

First of all, we're very pleased to announce, Joe's re-joined the band!
We've had a couple of practices with him now and it's like he never left, it's MEGA GOOD!

in the last couple of months we've been writing a lot and we're really happy about the new songs we're writing. We're  going to be playing these songs live over the summer, we've got quite a few gig dates which will be announced very soon, including a gig with our very good friends Codes in the Clouds which we're very excited about.

We've got a couple of little problems which we need to get sorted, but hopefully they'll ironed out very soon, we will probably have some more news for you shortly. But hey, we wouldn't be into flight if we didn't have some problems, would we?

We will be playing all over the uk during the summer, so hopefully we'll see you all soon.

Take care, belss your hearts

Dan

As you may have already noticed, we've lost a member of  Into Flight today but rather than wasting any time we've decided to start looking straight away.  We are looking for someone to come in and play guitar and to help out with playing some synth parts as well, in addition to this, vocals are quite important as the new member will be expected to do some backing vocals. We need someone very dedicated and must have their own transport.

If you or anyone you know could do this then please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Thanks IF x x

Into Flight are gutted to announce that Joe Lane has left the band.
Joe has been awesome for us, he gave us another layer and freedom to do much more with our music. Our thanks go to him for being such a great friend, being so enthusiastic and most of all, bringing us together as a band as before he came along we were falling apart.

Joe you will be sadly missed but we wish you all the best, You will always be a part of Into Flight.

We've just signed to Rainbow Box Music, a very small and very new record label from London. Rainbow Box will act as our label as well as some management duties.  The E.P will come out on download but we're seeking distribution companies as we speak.

Recording will begin early September at Blueprint Studios in Manchester, more details on the Rainbow Box myspace. Thanks to Dave Pye and Carl Prettyman for their patience and commitment to the Into Flight cause- it is much appreciated and we hope we can return the favour at some point.

Happy times. xxx

Hello all, an update in the into flight camp. We are no longer with Pit Viper bookings and management and we wish them all the best.

The E.P will be out on another label (to be announced this week) and will be called "Heart and Head." We're hitting the studio as soon as humanly possible and it'll be out in September.

1. Illuminated Dream
2. If There Were Butterflies
3. The Acquisition
4. A Scream For Silence

Most of the gigs are still happening, its all a bit up in the air at the moment but onwards and upwards. All artwork and designs will be done by our collaborator Carl Prettyman as usual, what a lovely chap.

Thanks,
Into Flight
