Okay! So I'm reading my work out loud tonight for the first time in Eons!!! Eons people. And I'm kinda sorta totally freaked out. Here is the scoop for those of you who are in vicinity and brave enough to venture out in the cold.Tonight - Monday, January 26th at 8pm at the Telephone Bar & Grill in the Library Lounge (in the back).Telephone Bar & Grill is located at 149 Second Avenue (between 9th & 10th streets)
Subways R / 8th St. stop 6 / Astor Pl. stop F / 2nd Ave. stop
Hope to see you there! Andrea

I promise now with the advent of 2009, I have much more energy to write some crazy blogs but my only question to you is will you have the devotion to read them?
More Makar news coming soon (soon meaning later this week not next January) A.
PS: Of course, myspace f*ing sucks and the links don't work so you will have to cut and past to get to the FB page. These demos may not stay on FB (it depends on what Mark thinks but I'm sneaking them in for now)

We are very excited to be played on The Devils Kitchen Radio!
http://www.thedevilskitchenradio.co.uk/
Tune on on Friday the 5th of September to listen to some rocking MAKAR tunes.
You can listen live here! http://www.live365.com/stations/todius?play
Sometimes, myspace screws up our links so best to cut and paste as opposed to just clicking...
A little about The Devils Kitchen in their old words:
Hi, we are a couple (??) of Edinburgh based country boys who enjoy a wide range of genres as you'll have noticed. You're also likely to hear the occasionally clinically insane or just purely eccentric.
Put simply, if we like it we'll probably play it at some time! We also have an aversion to the purely commercial. If its in the pop charts, it's likely it won't make the playlist, unless it's an old classic reappearing. Or that rarity, a modern classic. But hey, you wouldn't be listening to us if that was what you were looking for just now would you? And to top it off we have the mysterious Todius to look after us.
Happy days.

So this past Saturday, we started laying down MAKAR's new album Funeral Genius. Mark said something to me, "I never thought this would happen." By makarmusic
I didn't realize that he felt that way so clearly until then but I understood it. Because we both got burnt out. I'll try to explain why we got so burnt out in a blog later this week.
I was so depressed when we weren't doing music but it all seemed so difficult and pointless. You get caught up in the idea of "making it", of having conventional success when that isn't really up to you and isn't really the point. The angry desire to make it actually takes away from enjoying making music. And especially today, who knows what is going to happen with the music business.
When Mark said he never thought this would happen, that we would record new songs, that made me sad and also startled me. Because some of these "new" songs we have carried with us for a long while and I desperately wanted to hear them recorded with a full band.
Mark said he was so thankful that this happened, that we were making this happen again (albeit in a much smarter way fiscally this time). And for me that's what was missing before, I'm not taking for granted having (and really making) this opportunity to do these things, to record an album that may be full of more obscure hits for MAKAR but is more than we ever imagined.

It's funny though, we're soooooo different from any of the music played so honestly I don't know what this will do for us. I don't know if anyone really understands our music in the mainstream...is that weird to admit?
Oh, well, I'm proud to be weird and besides I think top 40 is weird.
But I didn't plan to be weird

Makar's song "Another Day" has advanced to the Qualifier round of the ABC Radio's syndicated show Fame Games where it will be heard by up to "a couple million listeners around the world this Tuesday August 12th @ 8pm!" YAY!!
Please REVIEW AND VOTE for the song so it may advance to the main event and get even more radio exposure!
You can review and vote here: http://www.meermusic.com/content/reviews/review.asp?tid=30101&ed=192&subval=1 By makarmusic
The idea is that ABC Radio is supporting indie music in a major way for the first time. In their own words: "Fame Games is a big deal because for the past 40-or-so years, it has virtually not happened that an independent artist should get national-level, regular media exposure - just because the music was good!" Well now we can!! Wooohooo!
Love Makar
Fame Games Quote:
Good news! Your song, ....Another Day.... has now advanced to the Fame Games Q-Show 192, scheduled for Tuesday on 8/8/2008. Congratulations! Making it to the on-air showcases is a big deal because suddenly, you and your song is being heard by a truly massive international audience!

So I got this shiny red epiphone guitar in Williamsburg last weekend. I was not planning on buying another guitar. Especially an electric one. I almost feel like it's too good for me. I know that's silly but I batter the crap out of my guitars, because I strum so hard so a pricey one (at least pricey for me, we got a good deal on it) feels fragile.
We were just wandering around Williamsburg and we happened upon Main Drag Music and there it was in all its red glory hanging on the wall. My eyes went right to it. Mark said "Try it!"
 By makarmusic
But I tried to be good, I so did. I said "No, I shouldn't. What if it's right." We're trying to save money and pay off stupid artist debt. But Mark insisted.
And at main drag music, they have these little rehearsal rooms which makes me feel less self-conscious when I play. I hate playing in stores. It's like being on display in a particularly horrible way. I plugged in and the sound was right. It was so different from my craptastic Crafters (which I'm very fond of) and that's important for a new album to have a new sound. And this was the right sound, all crackly warmth.
But I still had to think on it. So we left to get a drink because drinking is definately a good idea when deciding upon making a major purchase right? We came to the unsurprising conclusion that I should buy the guitar but try to get them throw a case in for free.
We went back to Main Drag Music and the guitar was missing from its spot on the wall. I was a bit panicked. So I asked what happened to it. Other customers were playing it. FUCK!!!
So in my supreme negotiating skills, I asked the sale rep to call me if they didn't buy it. I thought it was over. Mark thought they were chronic noodlers and I shouldn't be worried.
Twenty minutes later and only 2 despondent blocks away, I got the call and any bargining power I might have had was out the window. We played the epiphone again and my love was still strong so just some more debt added to ridiculous dreams...

And here are some choice picts of our summer forays into Williamsburg. I'm uploading new ones into myspace shortly.
