down in the jungle

things go awry /
paranoia's hydra heads lash black tongues across the land /
and in the red sand all life explodes beneath the rage of an angry son

children of a loving earth turned against each other in a quagmire mire
of
lies /
a tyrant unhinged hides behind white columns
and smoke / his shields / a shotgun sidekick / a whining chickenhawk /
a vulture in thin veils / deliver air from smokestacks / derive food
from
filth /
bash walls with bleak fists / break silence with mortar-fire /
his gap-toothed lackey / her words as black as her heart / he hides /
dubious shrub
and things go awry / down in the jungle / the lion roams /
no home / no shade of tree / and water scarce /
he takes the bus / there is no reward / no dream of life in luxury
promised
will be given or sold /
not like they tell him / his heart
aches for those who are far away / lost as he / within themselves /
far away from home / within his eyes burn spies / the raven reminds him

time is collapsing on itself / thank spirit for lionesses /
the world is so cold / he grows weary / cars rocket by screeching
rubber on broken streets / all falls down / giant monsters stare
down from ruined wood / garbage heaps pile to the sky /
buildings walk off as the trees invert themselves /
in the distance, mountains rumble / ear-splitting cracks of thunder

skin off bone /
faces off cadavers wandering sidewalks / ablaze /
eyes bleed acid rain as muscles strain / beneath the weight of useless

stalking innocence / glowing eyes like coal survey smoldering alleys /
