Here's a nice review of our July 18 show at the Horseshoe by Bob at "It's Not The Band I Hate, It's Their Fans":

"I've been hearing great things about These Electric Lives for a while now but I had never really got around to sampling their music yet simply due to lack of time. Apparently their self titled João Carvalho produced EP earned them some critical praise, and their single We Should Be Believing was a bit of a small hit on college radio. I found their brand of 'melodic dance rock' to be pretty easy to digest in a live setting, as the band cranked out one anthemic blast after another. It quickly became obvious that they've done a good job at perfecting a solid live show that has already made a reputable name for itself. The crowd was dancing and shaking like crazy, as the vibe shifted regularly from moody key driven moments to epic sounding rock songs, usually wihtin the course of the same song".

We've been collecting remixes from some pretty talented people over the past year and we wanted to share them with all of you now. Some are dance remixes and some are just crazy re-interpretations. It's been so amazing hearing our songs in different ways.

We have CD copies for sale at our shows and via our official website, and it is now up on iTunes, eMusic and Amazon MP3.

A very big shout out to all the remixers...you guys did an AMAZING job! Also - props to Bryan who mastered this sucker, and Mark who turned in 2 remixes of his own (one with a very dapper lad known as Federsen).

"TEL fairly killed it, despite the small crowd gathered for their set. They kept the energy high the whole set, and the result was a bunch of people sticking their heads in to see what was going on, and being unable to leave. Once they finished we had a chance to chat with Mark & Gary from TEL who couldn't have been nicer (hope you got your donairs fellas!)"

Herohill (Halifax/Vancouver)

"These Electric Lives, one of the highlights of HPX, were great but I have to register one official complaint regarding their performance: too short (due to the scheduling)! Hell's Kitchen, the venue, was just as it sounds: hot as hell. Through soaked-skin shirts, TEL made up for the small crowd (about 50 people) with their highly energetic sound. Mark, the lead singer, belting out "We Should Be Believing," was the highlight of the short-lived concert.

Though short and sweaty, TEL continues to impress crowds with every performance they make. The release of their full length album in 2008 will catapult TEL into national recognition - now all we have to do is wait. Here's hoping that These Electric Lives come back to Halifax very soon (with even more material) and can spend more time wowing the crowd!"

My Crazy Blog (San Jose)

"I managed to catch a bit of These Electric Lives who sounded somewhere along the lines like Motion City Soundtrack (to be honest I didn't hear enough to make a great judgement) but their lack of pretension and willingness to simply rock was refreshing."

NXNE REVIEW

"Reminiscent of Bloc Party, Silversun Pickups, Postal Service and the indie-rock ilk, I'm expecting to add them to my iPod rotation as soon as their full-length album is complete later this year...the strong songwriting filled with tight riffs and immediately familiar choruses shone through to a very receptive crowd...I'm expecting big things from these boys in the next year. Keep your eyes on this one".

SIDE PROJECT

Some of you know might know about a little, acoustic-based side project called Products of Better Living. Gary writes and sings songs with Mark, Bry and Griff backing him up. PoBL played it's first (and only show to date) back in May 2006. With all the TEL fun going around this past year, we're only getting around to show 2 now. But it's booked and here are the details:

Pitter Patter Nights presents Familiar Music
Feat. Steve Puchalski/Deromantic, Shelby Lamb, Products of Better Living, Megan Hamilton
Thursday, September 6
The Boat (just west of Dundas & Bathurst, in Kensington Market)

Have a great week,

Adam, Bryan, Griffon, Gary and Mark

THESE ELECTRIC LIVES

We've had a lot of requests for EP lyrics so here they are. Thanks for your interest everybody! - TEL

WE SHOULD BE BELIEVING

Trust me, I'll figure it out
How things should be workin'
Hold your breath and I'll hold mine
'Cause we should be believing
Stayin' up all night
Too much fear for sleepin'
I know it's not too late for us
We need to keep on tryin'….

Trust me, I'll figure it out
How things should be workin'
Making sense of what went wrong
So we don't have to give in
It scares us all the time
We're tired of not believing
I know it's not too late for us
We need to keep on tryin'…

SODA WATER

Soda water burns
It's so corrosive, it's so corrosive
We climb the highest hills
And they're eroded, they're eroded

Oh, it's funny how we stay
In the dark during day
This infectious guardian embrace us
Oh, it's funny how we stay
In the dark during day
This vindictive guardian won't save us

We see through clouded eyes
They're dilated, they're dilated
The keys don't turn easily
There's no ignition why are we waiting

We've got no reasons
And we run, and we run
We've got no reasons
Still we run, still we run…

TEACH ME TO FOCUS

Ask me a question
Give me some room
Forget all the reasons why we left so soon
Correct my spelling
I'll save your seat
Turn back the clocks an hour
I'll count your heartbeat

We've got the answer
You see it too
Teach me to focus
And I'll teach you

We've got explosive hearts to mould
So protect the pieces that we could have sold
And we'll back buy back
All that we can for the rest of you
And we'll back buy back
All that you won't give away anymore

Because we've got the time
And I'll teach you
'Cause we've got the time
And I'll teach you
'Cause we've know it's not too late
And I'll teach you
Yeah we've got the time
And I'll teach you...

WAKE ME UP

We search high and low
For songs we long to claim
Like jewelry that we hid in an attic
Too well for our own good

We wear our nails down thin
And our tear our throats up raw
We will try to keep this secret
From those unforgiving neighbours

I'll try not to lose you in my sleep
Just promise you'll wake me
And promise you'll take me
Promise you'll wake me up this year

Yeah the summer came and went like an afterthought
So we set ourselves ablaze in our living rooms
Yeah summer came and went like an after thought
So we set ourselves ablaze then we forgot...

KEEP LOVE SAFE

You're all that I need
All that I need
To keep love safe
See our future in a mirror
We'll be together
Sweet-scented spirit
I know you're made to be my better half
It's our reflection
Let our direction stay the same

You're all that I need to keep love safe...
