Category: Dreams and the Supernatural

Hello loves, long time no see...wow, I haven't written one of these in awhile. I've almost forgotten how to navigate my profile. Bad Katrina!

No, I am not dead yet. This is a good thing, right? Right?

No, the EP is not completed yet...you know the one I talked about months and months ago? Yeah, that one. We started recording back in late September 2008 and had to put everything on hold due to some unexpected logistical issues, blah blah blah...but we are finally back at it and making a lot of progress. I think producer Tim Moore is going to do a lovely job on these songs.

In the meantime, I pulled all last year's piano/vocals from my page (since a lot of them will be on the CD) and replaced them with some older tracks...a couple from my 2004/2005 EP and some done live in the studio back in 2007. Ah, nostalgia.

I hope you are all well. I miss you.

Much love,
Katrina

Oh, and RIP to my favorite Golden Girl who played my imaginary grandma in too many fantasies to count. I absolutely adored her.

Bea!

Whoever took the time to build, design, and film this - thank you. You've stolen my heart completely.

I've missed you. A new EP will be on the way soon (well by soon, I mean we start recording in August), and I'll be playing a Friday show at Tangier in September that I'm pretty excited about...also, sparkles, unicorns, and bubbles are on the horizon for everyone. Oh yes, Fall can bring good things.

I hope you're all enjoying your Summers immensely.

Love,

Katrina

Hello lovelies,

My June 25th show has been cancelled, but mark your calendars now for a September 19th show at Tangier. It's a Friday, and this is a LOT of notice, so there you go. I love you. I'd love you more if you came.

Just kidding! Kind of.

Until then, I'll be doing some acoustic sets at Borders (which are always deliciously awkward) and planning for a new EP.

In other news, I switched over to a new host for my website and am still in the process of figuring out my new webmail, little details like formatting, settings, spam blocking, etc...I have been absolutely wowed by some of the clever ways people advertise penis enlargement products - some of my favorite e-mail titles (with commentary) below:

Gain a huge cannon for love

--Very clever substitution for the word penis, major points for working in a weapon most commonly used during the WW1 & WW2 era
. On a 1-10 scale, I give it a 7.--

Do not limit itself in your desires

--I really like this. It's an appeal to live your life to the fullest which is vague enough to be applicable to almost any self-improvement but also makes use of the word "desires" which gives the whole thing a somewhat hedonistic tone. Very nice, most definitely a 9!--

Don't be sad about badboner. We will help you!

--Very smart approach - the directness of the statement is tempered by the sympathetic tone. They're empathizing with the reader and offering concrete solutions to their problem. Classy, but points off for the shoddy grammar in the first line. I give it a 6!--

I only want to make you feel good

--Now this one's sneaky...because we all want to feel good, and the offer is enticing and just vague enough not to offend someone with delicate sensibilities - I like it, another 10.--

Breathe a new life into your love organ

--This one's just brilliant - it doesn't pussyfoot around the subject and really paints a picture with words, doesn't it? It also mentions the word "love" which makes it less about sex and more about relationship, and that only broadens the appeal. I give it a 10!--

Prepare for the time of your lives

--Whoa, ok, this is a bold and brazen statement. If they can promise us the time of our lives, then I'm intrigued. Tell me more! I give it a 9.--

Sex in the city with your enlarged rod

--This one's 50/50 for me - points for being current on pop culture, but negative points for using the word "rod" when something more imaginative like "love organ" and "huge cannon" are so readily available. It's like they started off strong in the first half and lost steam in the last half. Come on guys, I know you can do better than this! An 8! Replace "enlarged rod" with any of the above suggestions, and you'll have a perfect 10!--

Brad Pitt uses this stuff

--Ah, the false celebrity endorsement - lazy but sometimes effective. This one's in the 6-7 range.--

Not too old to increase your size

--This one is right on so many levels. It appeals to a specific demographic. It's vague but not too vague. It also implies that this manufacturer is firmly against age-ism. I give it a 9!--

It's odd that I'm starting to look forward to cleaning out my inbox every day, right? Yeah, I don't need you to tell me it's odd. I know it is.

I hope your weeks are starting out beautifully, that you all feel good and prepare for the time of your lives today...

Love,
Katrina

Hello lovelies,

We've uploaded a new song -
"Love in Space"…yes, I've been watching too much sci-fi. Yes, I am unashamed of this fact.

It was done live in the studio, so it's a bit rough around the edges, but it's something new at least.

This weekend was bathtime at our house (canines, not humans – I don't believe in bathing). Now, when my dogs are dry, I like to think they're pretty damn cute.

You're so beautiful, you could be a part time model!

However, when you add a little water to the equation, they look like this.

Nobody knows the trouble I've seen…

Nobody knows my sorrows…

Yeah, they go from cute and fluffy to wet rodent…plus they do this tiny whimper and look so defeated the whole time. It's pure dramatics.

We also spent our weekend rehearsing for tomorrow night, and I have to say Lloyd is sounding amazing on that cajon and snare…I cannot wait.

I know I say this a lot, but I really mean it – I'd absolutely love to see you there. It'd make my evening.

I was just kidding above about how I don't believe in bathing. I totally bathe, all the time…in a tub full of sparkles.

Katrina

That’s right, I said it - thrills AND chills...this Monday, April 7th, at the Republic.

We’ll have special guests on cello, violin, percussion, and guest piano on one cover tune.

This might be the most gorgeous venue I’ve played in the L.A. area....and I’m not just saying that to get you there. I’m serious. There’s a fireplace on the stage, people. No shit - a fireplace ON THE STAGE. That’s the kind of class I’m talking about here. No joke.

It’s going to be lovely. Hope to see you there.

Happy Monday, loves.

I've posted some new piano/vocals on my page, all done live in the studio late Friday evening - This Is Not Us, A Lost Soul, & My Body Lays.

My best friend's determined that "A Lost Soul" is vampire related. I will not to confirm or deny this theory...but I will say I think she's highly influenced by the Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 2 discs we've been watching lately, so her theories cannot be trusted.

Two blogs in 1 week...this is record breaking.

I'm playing at the Pig'n Whistle this Friday (March 7th), and naturally you're invited to join us. It's going to be an intimate, acoustic set with piano/vocals only. The wonderful Joe Clopton plays at 8PM, and I go on at 8:30PM.

I love that name – Pig'n Whistle. I imagine a barn full of mini pot bellied pigs playing woodwind instruments every time I see it. Hmm, I probably should have kept that to myself.

Wait, no. That has to be the most awesomely good image ever, and I'm not afraid to admit it. I'll be forever indebted to anyone who can draw it for me. Pretty please? Do it for the children.

Have I ever told you about my Grandma's pet pot bellied pig? He was trained like a dog and would come when called. She named him "Porkchop." Horrifying (the name, not the piggie).

Love,
Katrina

We have a new song up…it's a ballad (shocker!), recorded live in the studio Friday evening. Feel free to give it a listen and add to your pages if you're feeling particularly generous.

It's the first of many new songs, so please keep an eye out for more.

We also have a new banner with artwork provided by the incredibly delicious Heather Lloyd. You can copy and paste the code below onto your page (in the "about me" section), and viola! You'll have this lovely graphic.

Come on now...you know you want one. Don't deprive yourself. You deserve it.
