So -- I get a text from my buddy who works early, comes in when I wake up -- the message clocked at 4 :30 AM

Says he heard us on the radio -- on WSOU. Nice.

But he says they call us " Riot."

That is it -- Riot. Now he knows it is us -- knows me -- knows what is up -- glad to hear it and all but decides to call and quiz the DJ.

He does and asks what band just played.

The DJ says -- "Riot."

Now this is not entirely unexpected. Bob had told us that owing to WSOU radio representing Seton Hall University, a catholic university, there would be a problem with their saying god in conjunction with any band over the airways. OK -- fine.

We were under the impression that they would say Riot-GEE. Shit they could even phonetically modify it -- say RiotGah -- make the D silent -- perhaps that is too advanced.

Anyway -- all in all saying Riot -- and then having the DJ blankly confirm this non-name -- does us NO good. So -- knowing it might be futile -- I called and got in touch with someone -- other than a DJ.

After the introductions and explanation of "case" I asked her -- So what do you call Lamb of God -- Lamb of?

She explained that recently they were allowed to fully say the entire name of this popular band  -- once called Burn the Priest LOL. I guess that is to be expected -- A list band, of course.

Well I told her that at LEAST the DJ could do us the service of stating our name to a caller who might dig our shit! Riot -- plain Riot does us no fucking good.

So there is your window into a week in the life of whatever.

It never gets old.

Little freakouts like this are nice. Friend of ours brother took this pic with his phone cam.

So we researched it and found this in a PDF

Q. How do I submit my music (audio tracks) to Music Choice?
A. Please mail your CD, along with an artist profile and press information to: Music Choice Programming, 328 West 34th Street, New York, NY 10001 (indicate genre on envelope) All music genres will be considered, but there is no guarantee of airplay. Each submission is reviewed individually and tracks are selected for possible airplay. Because of the large volume of submissions that we receive on a daily basis, it is impossible for us to notify artists if their music has been selected or to return materials. Keep listening to your favorite channel to find out if your music was chosen for airplay. By submitting your music to Music Choice, you grant all rights to broadcast and perform your music.

So -- I am not sure how it made its way -- but thought I would share this little moment.

Cycle of Pain last night -- and that was alllright down at the Pony.

This is SUN here -- pretty much the only one who might take the time to place up anything here in Blogville.

This won't be some overly long dissertation, but I just thought I would express a few things.

I sometimes look across the web and try to find what crazy places the RiotGod name might be at, forrrrr say: reviews we have not be alerted to the publication of, or bizarre threads in goofy forums.

As I go on these unconscionably time-wasting forays into the data-sludge of the web, I see us placed in a few categories: stoner, hard rock and sometimes lumped into a metal place.

Sometimes these days to be into hard rock is to feel like a displaced tribe, living in the empire of more powerful tribes who have taken over. Displaced, passionate about identity and at times marginalized.

I can say I don't describe our band as anything really -- hard rock is all I can call it -- we each really come from very different places and influences, meeting in the center to form what we do and that becomes more pronounced and beneficial as this band continues existing and maturing. We are not overly metal, crossover this or that or bizarre indulgent technical wizards either. I can only hope that the spirit of what we do -- and what we write --  will always be rooted in a sense of individualism and uniqueness, melding our influences, and tolerating where we are placed for a while.

Let me end this abruptly - the passionate moment that drove me to type and make an entry has long gone.

There is really nothing unique one can write about one's actual trip. Traffic at places least desired, plastic chain food at random times: one doesn't even have to have been in a band to relate. Drive across country, same stuff. Do it a few times, rinse, repeat.

We were fortunate enough to have a place at Scott and Kendra Meades place just outside of Toronto.

We arrived late yet ate good and drank. The burgers were simply delicious.

Getting through Customs was a smooth affair.

Driving late up the QEW reminded me, the landscape, of the anonymous parts of Staten Island, without the garbage smell, desolate, at times industrial/business with the occasional huge dealership lot beyond tall elephant grass/brush.

Outer Toronto, flat like Philadelphia's surrounding areas.

Our memory of this trip punctuated by the Will Ferrell impersonation of Harry Carey and Garrett's impersonation of that.  ( Related: Funny -- big hat -- tsfunny.)

Securing the parking spot in front of the club -- considering the Tahoe and Trailer combo -- priceless.

Amazingly everyone RG had stuff to get to at home Sunday -- what a crazy there & back one off.

We now look forward to our Space Mountain gig and preparing for October, when we are currently booking gigs -- midwest -- south -- not set in stone yet -- but we will be out there.

September? Magnet -- Australia spells a chunk of September.

We are still hard at work on our contribution to a Queen tribute CD -- this next week brings your humble narrator into the studio to do a zillion tracks of vocals yea! Death on Two Legs baby!

Cubs win! Cubs win!

Current mood:THX 1139
As has never been our tradition, we post a blog on the eve of a mega-eclipse.

Bob is out with Cycle of Pain in Canada for a few dates and Jim who has been out in Sin City on a special mission will be back very soon.

Garrett's Psycho Daisy has a ton of gigs around the NJ Shore -- so if you are into having a good time in some crazy ass bar, go check them out. Rock and or Roll.

SUN ( moi ) me jas finish my art/music website and now can get on to doing the RiotGod site properly and any of many things that take creative time.

We -- and I know I can speak for all of us -- RG cannot -- CANNOT wait to fucking play.

Strangest Letter to come to the band yet

Dear Riotgod,
We are a charitable organisation that runs, and raises funds to maintain, this Centre for the benefit of, the local community in Shoreham and outlying areas. The Centre provides a venue for manyactivities and clubs – Adult Education, U3A classes and Kiddies football, Toddlers and PlayGroups, Keep Fit, Karate, Weight-watchers, Dancing (Le Roc, Salsa, Jive, Line, Belly and other),Senior Citizens club, Weekly Markets, Education Classes, Wrestling Shows, Discos, Dances,Theatrical Plays and much more. We are normally open at least six days and evenings a week, and have between 1300 & 1400 people passing through our door in a normal week and up to 1800 on a
good week.

The reason for my letter is to ask for your help as in addition to the usual costs of running and maintaining this community centre we now need to raise substantial additional funds to cover:
1. We need to refurbish our 2 main washrooms/toilets in the near future with both their floors being quite urgent. For the whole refurbishment we need to raise in excess of £6,000.

// list truncated //

7.The list is endless but these and other improvements/additional facilities are essential in providing for the needs of all the groups and ages for now and in the future in our ever expanding community.

How can you help? Please one of three ways:
a.An item or items for a Charity Auction, such as signed photographs/posters/CD/DVD/scripts etc.

Ahhh this is why we got it.... OK. I wonder if anyone in Shoreham knows really who the hell we are and will bid for whatever we would give??

b.An item or items that can be used in raffles or prize draws.
c.A monetary donation (cheques should be made out to “The Shoreham Centre”)
Thank you again for looking at our request and I await your response with anticipation. If you have
any questions please email or telephone me.
with best wishes

Current mood:analytical
Category: Friends
For the record this is SUN -- vocalist and for the most part -- primary "Friend Farmer."

After great and continuing efforts in regard to the MySpace option, I offer this for public record, easily accessible and for the future notable, unchangable.

A friend count is not what we are after, that is the consequence of necessary effort.

To best make use of the enormity of connection and exposure, this action, the one of promotion and introduction for the active, hungry, explorative band, filled with desires, we of course take part in regularly.

Speaking for my method, I state this:

Friending on MySpace is the offer of the first hand-shake, the first impression. When you meet someone, this is usually -- in person - the first action. It is all one can do in a courteous instant.

Certainly -- in that moment you cannot say whether you like the person, can form judgements or really do anything else than extend a greeting and contact. This is what I -- and by extension, we as a band try to do.

Before: you knew jack shit about our EXISTENCE and via the request it is our hand shake.  After: We know about you and you us and it is recorded. One more "friend."

If this were a personal contact situation, imagine, as if we lived in a giant camp, a sprawling kind of e-tent city, some combination of a festival, refugee camp, bazaar and burning man rolled into one big enormity. You cannot establish in-depth personal continuing relations with everyone. Duh.

So -- what now?

I just want to state I find it humorous when some bands accept and immediately foist a comment on your page, filled with say 3 large pictures and a link to their wares -- yet -- yet when you go to leave the corresponding comment of your own, maybe not 3 big ads for your product but a simple TFTA graphic or even a gig poster tie in -- said band prohibits HTML on their page.

Interesting.

I really look at the comments offered and am hard pressed to deny usually -- unless there is something "wrong" almost inhuman about the presentation... and god forbid the DUMB factor.

Although I labor for a millisecond over any rare denial of comment, one must be in agreement that sloppy html with broken code is a YP not an OP -- your problem or their problem -- not our problem.

Also, it is not our poilcy to straight away shove our wares down ones comment throat either. We rarely try to employ widgets -- that is just messy and god damn -- not first comment for sure. Our first comment will never be an buy our stuff ad. Imagine that -- meeting someone at this party and this interaction.

RG:      "Hello -- may I shake your hand."
OTHER: "Yes."
.....
OTHER:
"Great -- well then //pause// Buy my stuff? I have T-shirts, CDs, DVDs of our concert at a state fair in 2001, mugs, beachballs, commemorative vinyl, jackets, hoodies, our own brand of children's vitamins, nifty eye-catching ....etc etc"

I/We try to simply turn on people one at a time to our deal -- to let anyone know about our hard work and desire, really hoping to make true connections, building bridges if you will

There is thought behind our action, sincere intent. That is all we can strive for and will continue in practice. Of course -- it would be great to meet a few people down the road....

Anyway -- Our practice, the method behind it, the intent and overall attitude toward and opinion of it: It is now -- however obvious -- in writing.

This act itself, the detailing of this tedious, silent process, which until only very recently
MySpace made easier with a bit of code, and expressing how I/We handle it,  injects my/our necessary stamp of humanity on it.

Cheers -- buy our CD! // *wink*

Current mood:  animated
RiotGod will be featured on Fat Cat Radio this coming 15th on their "BIG SHOW"

Now we realize some reading this might own the CD, and some might simply listen to the tunes here or at Reverbnation... but this is about letting people know about this cool online ROCK/BLUES radio station... more or less.

So -- check out Fat Cat Radio and why not check it out on July 15th, while we are featured -- for their BIG SHOW.

NB: We erred in saying we would be broadcast over the July 4th weekend -- woops -- we bad so consider this too a correction.

We thank Swede for choosing to play us -- again -- & invite other bands to send quality original material his way.

We are in the middle of getting together a recording of Queen's Death on Two Legs for a compilation produced by our friends at  Mainman Records ( Keith Roth and friends ). If you know Queen -- then you know what a great creative challenge this will be, fun to nail that song down in every single fucking way....

We look forward to heading up to Canada ( still working on some gigs along the way ) to play at Lee's Palace on August 8th. This gig has been splendidly handled by the Meades Bros. up north and if you are thinking about playing up in the Ontario/Quebec way -- hit up there MySpace and give them a shout.

Later in the month we will be doing a FREE SHOW at Space Mountain in Brooklyn along with Lapdog of Satan (members of Priest Bird), w/more to come!

Being in RiotGod means being aware of our greater music peripheral family -- so to speak -- basically motherfuckers who live to play. So here is the scoop for those into it.

Most pertinent news at the time of this entry:
Bob -- "Save some fo' th' Drummer" Pantella will be appearing for some Cycle of Pain dates so check out their MySpace for info.

Current mood:  triumphant
We last had a gig at Arlene's in NYC and thank again all the intrepid souls who came to see us rock that great room. The sound man had to have been to coolest we have met so far for this band.

To all that have accepted our invite to hear our music we appreciate you and of course -- for the newcomers -- pledge our commitment to a non-spam/low bulletin policy. You will not get image after weekly image from us, begging you to buy our CD. We want as many people of course to buy it -- a good amount of time and effort, afternoons and rehearsal went into it and in our humble opinion it sounds great, but a comment with 60 big images every week or even every month aint our style.

Next week Bob and Jim -- the J&B Express as they are sometimes referred to go off with Monster Magnet and back to Europe ( dates below )

So -- after a few personal commitments us take up mid-July, August approaches and we are planning for that window of time -- for in September -- Magnet heads to the land down under.

We have been in contact with the Meades Bros up in Toronto and are working on getting up across the border to bring our situation to Canada.

As soon as we get that together and anything else for late August ( Space Mountain Bklyn anyone??) -- we will let everyone know. Time is our found Serengeti kill, our bloody find, and we will get our piece, whenever opportunity presents itself. WE WILL GET OURS.

And now your dates: Go out and check out J&B rock the fuck out. -- SUN

Current mood:  stoked
Things went great and we are super stoked to hit the stage Saturday night.

For not having played in a while it went pretty damned great. Bob and Jim having come off their Magnet shows, SUN ( myself ) recuperating from "The Philadephia Incident", all fatigue and minor concerns aside, it went great.

We look forward to playing.

For those that are not going to be in NY, or in the US for that matter

The event, at  will be broadcast here
