good day, friends,

it's been a cold, blustery fall. the waning daylight and biting chill of these autumn months has crept upon us once again, and as we struggle to maintain our good cheer in the face of winter's unrelenting frost, what better way to combat your winter woes than with the soft, introspective acoustic noodling of the baby train?

that said, join us on Sunday evening, December 7th for a raucous night of tunes at Hank's Rootin' Tootin' Saloon at the corner of Third Avenue and Atlantic in fair Brooklyn, where we lay our scene. the baby train will take the stage at nine and, if it's anything like the last time we visited Hank's, it's sure to be a wild, whiskey-soaked evening indeed. a memorable time will be had by all.

oh, and did we mention that this show is FREE?!?! no? well then. our apologies. it's free.

here's the complete info:

An Evening With The Baby Train
Sunday, December 7th, 9:00 PM
Hank's Saloon
46 Third Avenue (at Atlantic)
Brooklyn, NY
FREE

start your holiday season off with a romp at Brooklyn's most-rollicking honky tonk haven. hope to see you there.

smooches,
the baby train

hello hello-

first off, many thanks to everyone who came out to arlene's last week- i had a great time, and was really happy to see so many people come out late on a tuesday night.

while i don't have any shows scheduled at the moment, I am certainly going to be busy in the months ahead. I've been working on recording a batch of new tunes here in my bedroom in brooklyn, and, based on the way things have been going along so far, I'm thinking that they might be good enough quality to post on myspace, and maybe even release. at this point, what I had initially intended to be an ep's worth of new music is shaping up to be an album. so, while I'm really happy with the songs that will eventually comprise the new record, the project is taking a little longer than i anticipated, which will hopefully result in better recordings and a stronger record in the long run.

in addition, i'm embarking on a (probably ill-advised) adventure to write a musical with some friends this fall. more on that later...

i know for sure that i'll be performing at the international pop overthrow festival in october or november, and I'll post dates on that as soon as they're confirmed. I'll also start booking gigs regularly around then as well.

thank you so much for listening to the baby train/bothering to read this blog. i'll check in again soon, hopefully with some bad-ass tunes in tow. until then...

Hello hello-

Just a reminder that the bitter end show is happening this coming friday, june 27th, at 8 pm. it's the only show in new york for all of june and at least half of july, so it would be just lovely if you'd attend. see the shows page for more info. hope to see you there.

in other news, i have wrangled some live pictures from various internet locales (read: facebook), that i've compiled in the "pictures' section of the old profile. check them out.

finally, an update: the new album is officially being recorded. it's a pretty busted bedroom affair, but the tunes, i must say, are shaping up rather nicely.

until next time.

good day, trusty myspace blog readers! so, the most pertinent news in this post is that I have a show coming up this weekend- i will be playing a free show at the pianos upstairs lounge on sunday night (the 18th) at 8 PM. it's right there at ludlow and stanton- you can't miss it. check the shows page for more details, and i hope to see you there.

in other news, i played at knitting factory on wednesday night with an amazing latin band from gainesville, fl called the umoja orchestra. really excellent show- they had something like a six-piece horn section, some spanish lyrics, and some sexy, sexy grooves. definitely give them a listen.

last night i played another great show at hank's saloon down in brooklyn. the venue is a lovely little dive with a sort of country/western slant to it, and i shared the stage with tres muertos, a rockabilly duo who banged out some country classics with twangy, reckless abandon. i was even fortunate enough to collaborate with them on an impromptu blues during their second set. rad.

so, in conclusion, come see the pianos gig and, ya know, continue spreading the good word of the baby train to every single person you meet. that is all.

love,
marcus

hello-

so, my trip down to our nation's capital proved to be a delight. the weather was in the balmy 70s, the cherry blossoms were in full bloom, and the city exuded a bristling excitement as residents and tourists alike seemed rejuvenated by the advent of spring.

my show at wonderland ballroom was quite successful. I was pleasantly surprised to see a very respectable turnout in a city i'd never played before (special thanks go out to kelly dougherty for being instrumental in facilitating this). in addition, the fine gentlemen I performed with (andrew callard and friends) did an excellent job promoting the show, so we ended up playing to a full room (a phenomenon I don't often encounter, even in new york).

in other news, i lined up a bunch of shows in may that will definitely be worth checking out. may 5th at pete's candy store, may 18th at pianos, and may 28th at ace of clubs. check out the shows page for more info.

finally, i head into the studio on friday to begin recording my next ep. thematically, this one will probably be a companion piece to sorcerer, but the production values and arrangements are going to be much more lush and fleshed out. I'm very much looking forward to the process, and I'll keep you posted as things start to pan out.

good morrow, friends.

first off, thanks to all who attended the sunday afternoon show at rockwood music hall. it’s a lovely room, and i really enjoyed the laid back vibe we had going. i’m hoping to play there again soon, perhaps this time at a more traditional hour for rock and roll music. i’ll keep you posted.

second, i’m venturing to the great city of washington, dc this week to play my first show ever in our nation’s capitol. it’s at wonderland ballroom, a pretty badass spot in columbia heights. check my shows page for more info. if you happen to be reading this, and you live in dc, please attend. if you happen to be reading this, and you do not live in dc, tell someone you know who lives in dc to please attend.

finally, i’ve pretty much wrapped up writing a new ep. at this point, it’s going to be a six-tracker, and sort of a thematic continuation of the last record, sorcerer. title TBA. i’m still debating where/when i’m going to record, but the hope is that these new tunes will be finished sometime this spring. more on that as it develops. in the meantime, come see shows to hear this new material played live. woo!

that’s all for now.

until next time,
marcus

hey everybody-

thank you so much to everyone who came out to the elbo room this past weekend. it was really great to play in chicago again, and you all were a wonderful and supportive audience. to those of you who got cds, enjoy them (and be sure to play them for all your friends, especially those with high level music industry connections).

finally, thank you to mr. matt ryd, who not only played a delightful set, he also booked the show, did publicity, and was just an all-around helpful, organized gentleman.

I hope to play in the windy city again soon. In the meantime, if you live in new york and are looking to see some live baby train shenanigans, I've got a free show coming up this sunday at the baggot inn in the west village, which you should certainly attend. check my upcoming shows for more info.

love,
marcus
