These performances are from 2007 but are new to me...

Matt gets decent camera time in Beck's all-star band
for this BBC series.  See Matt scratching records, dropping
funky piano bits, harmonizing, and beating the shit out
of the mini drum kit.

All songs from Beck's "The Information"

Tinkering tinkering tinkering...

The WAW boys are back in the studio in their limited off hours working on some new WAW material.  At the same time, a crew of our favorite undergorund producers are pushing out some hot remixes to push the dancefloor into overdrive at your sister's sweet sixteen cocaine mega-party.

Since this is all talk for now... I decided to throw you a bone on the audio player... a track so vintage it's fresher than new.

Self - "What A Fool Believes"

This track, a cover of the Doobie Brothers classic, comes from Gizmodgery, the 2000 studio concept album on Spongebath (RIP).  Most people can't mention Gizmodgery without mentioning in the same breath that it was recorded entirely on toy instruments. Where are those toy instruments now? Probably locked up in a pair of high security climate controlled storage units 32.5 miles outside Murfreesboro.

Thanks to Youtube and a few intrepid music historians, new evidence has come about that sheds some light on the origins of the original Doobie Brothers track.  Check it out:

Yo everybody, hope you're well. What's new? I'll tell ya.

Look out for The White Tie Affair, dropping in a month or two. Forever The Sickest Kids, shortly thereafter. Out now, check out the Deluxe version of Beck's Odelay, rocked on a track called "inferno". Dukes Of Da Ville will dominate shortly.

And for the kids, Ni Hao, Kai-Lan premieres on Nick Jr. on the 7th of Feb at 11am, I wrote all the songs & the theme! We enter the studio with Under The Influence Of Giants next week.....I'll let you know how it goes.

NEW YORK -- Do most music lovers hate MTV?  Yes, and for good reason (see below).  But in 2008 MTV returns to breaking your new favorite band; on Jan 23rd MTV premiered Wired All Wrong's "15 Minutes" nationwide as part of MTV's "The Gauntlet 3: Road Rules / Real World Challenge".

The plight of MTV: What was once a beacon of cutting edge music (the "M" stands for "music" after all) has grown into an empire of long-form reality TV.  In 2008, MTV's saving grace for music lovers and couch potatoes alike is the "source music" in their reality shows -- background cues, promos and theme music.

Enter WIRED ALL WRONG.

Young veterans of the cruel music business, Jeff Turzo (God Lives Underwater) and Matt Mahaffey (Self, Beck) formed Wired All Wrong in 2005 to produce other artists (think Jon Brion pairing with Timbaland). Their accolades include  Hellogoodbye's platinum-selling "Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs!".

When not overbooked producing major label artists, Wired All Wrong manage to create their own mind-warping tracks, such as "15 Minutes".  Their 2006 debut artist album "Break Out The Battle Tapes" has quickly become an underground classic.

"15 Minutes" is one of ten songs on the album, many of which are should-have-been hits such as the rocking  "Lost Angeles" or the NIN-vs-RunDMC "Nothing At All".  "Elevatin" is perfect pop at warp speed and "You're Freakin' Me Out Girl" would make the Neptunes blush with jealousy.

"15 Minutes", though, distills all the elements of Wired All Wrong into a cohesive rock/electro anthem: stuttered metal, electronic, and hip hop micro-samples. Top notch production and meticulous vintage synth work. Clever lyricism and solid songwriting. Matt's unique smoky pop-star voice in otherwordly melodies, layered harmonies and b-boy drops. Undeniable hooks. And to top it all off, the song's theme is cynically exposing the underbelly of the music business -- a middle finger to Hollywood that continues across all ten of the album's tracks.

The MTV edit leaves out all but the hooks, sanitizing the track of choice lyrics about "big breasts", "lies" and not giving a fffk if she's nasty (SIC). The 45 second edit featured in the Gauntlet leaves much to be desired, however, fans will be delighted to know they can hear the whole song on the band's MySpace at http://www.myspace.com/wiredallwrong.

We are pleased to bring you a track most of you have not heard -- this is an oldie -- a dancefloor electro mix of the sultry trip-pop tune "Stunning" by 8MM.

For those not so in-the-know, 8MM is the project of Juliette & Sean Beavan.  They are an awesome group with a unique voice, sound, and aesthetic.

This remix was done before the Wired All Wrong album Break Out The Bttle Tapes was completed in 2006.  At the time, Sean was busy mixing some of our favorite tracks on Break Out The Battle Tapes, demonstrating the immaculate knack he developed since getting his start as an engineer for Trent Reznor back in Nine Inch Nails' TVT days.

8MM is in our top friends and has been since day one... so I would hope you've checked them out already. Top friends are top for a reason.

If not, here's the courtesy link: myspace.com/8mm

We''ll keep this track up until the end of the month, so if you are in the land of San Diego & Los Angeles check out their upcoming shows at the Beauty Bar and El Cid:

This Halloween will be the tenth anniversary of something very important.  I'm not talking about your favorite horror flick... I'm talking about the greatest Halloween song ever.

In 1996 a man named Matt Mahaffey from the college town of Murfreesboro, Tennessee sat down and recorded a ground-breaking album in his home studio. It was called "The Half Baked Serenade" and it was released independently on local buzz label Spongebath Records.

The record was released in November, so it wouldn't be until the following year that the song KiDdies, with it's impeccable hook "Let's go trick or treating dressed up like Marilyn Manson" would become a college radio Halloween favorite.

Now in 2007 we celebrate the tenth year that this track will grace our airwaves on Halloween.  Hear the song in the player, add it to your profile, and get a crew of people to DEMAND it on your local alternative radio station. Take no excuses, especially since you can download it from mattmahaffey.com any day of the week.

While you're there, you can discover the cult legend that is sElf.  If you're not a fan already... you will be.  (This guy is one half of Wired All Wrong, remember?)

The album "The Half Baked Serenade" has since sold out three pressings internationally, so maybe with enough interest we can get Matt to bring this back as a digital release like he did for sElf's legendary toy album Gizmodgery.  Hell yeah.

Spread the tunes.

Not quite sure what to think of this one... "15 Minutes" squirted over Uberzone's electro workout "Kung Fu" (from 2004's Digital Mix).  It'll be on the player for a few days.  The ID3 tag called it "2 Minute Kung Fu Fame". Anyone know who TAZ is?

Anyway, this would be a good day to remind you all that the Uberzone record drops Tuesday (hooray).  I gotta put my personal mark of approval on it, as did DJ Magazine when they named it "album of the issue".  This is up against M.I.A. released on the same day!  Enjoy, discuss.

Wired All Wrong fans,

It's been a while since I've had a moment to write, but we see your messages and comments. Thanks for the support.

Ancient UrinalWe've been working on two exciting projects this summer. One is the Liam and Me record which we produced. That is finally wrapped up! It was ANCIENT working with them. They're still on tour. Check our top friends.

BondageWe also did some tracks for The White Tie Affair. They've got a deal with Epic Records, and they are very BONDAGE in the studio.

Nimbo-Stratus, bitches!Anyway, if you've never been around music producers and the "business" you might not know what a headache mixing can be. It's really NIMBO-STRATUS. There's this game where you do some work and you send it to the A&R guy and they say "it's great, but can you change this?".

These are boobies, tooThen you work some more until your brain turns to goo. You send it in again and then same thing. Only now it's the marketing guy that wants more BOOBIES in the mix. Then the band's manager wants more claps. The band's manager's mom wants more bass solos. Work, work, work, goo. We've
been playing this game for WAY too long.

On a different note, it looks like we both may be moving to Tennessee shortly. There has been a Mahaffey family emergency, which has been stressful (understatement). Thanks for your support and encouragement.

cuddly velociraptorJust to put the word out, we may find the time and energy soon to play a benefit show or two. Since MySpace has gotten so RAPTOROUS, the best way to hear about upcoming shows is through the newsletter. You can sign up from the wiredallwrong.net site.

We are both excited about working on new material. We've already done some recordings, and they are BOTOX. You'll hear 'em some day, trust me.
