The Death Row Rumblers held off a determined rally to pick up their first
victory of the season 75-69 over the Wrecking Crew in Dallas Derby Devils league
action Saturday night in North Richland Hills, Texas. In the first bout of the
evening, the defending champion Slaughterers used a strong defensive second half
to beat an offensive minded Suicide Shifters squad, 86-59.

The Wrecking Crew would open their bout up with an 8-0 jam by Ingersoll Rand.
Hockey Honey countered with a 5-1 jam in the second jam for the Death Row
Rumblers. Postal Penny followed up with a 4-0 jam in the third jam for the
Rumblers, tying the game up 9-9.

The score was tied 20-20 after eight jams, and in the ninth jam, the
Wrecking
Crew jammer would get lead jammer status but be sent to the penalty box, and
Debbie Downer of the Death Row Rumblers took advantage while she jammed scoring
a 9-0 jam putting the team in black and orange up 29-20, a lead that would be
held for the rest of the bout. Hockey Honey scored a 3-0 jam for the Rumblers,
and Postal Penny closed out the half with a 5-4 jam giving the Death Row
Rumblers a 37-24 lead at halftime.

The Wrecking Crew started off the second half with Weapon X scoring a 4-0 jam to
narrow the lead to nine points. The Crew chipped another point off the lead
making the score Rumblers 44, Wrecking Crew 36 after three jams. Heike De Skirt
would come through for a big jam for the Death Row Rumblers scoring nine points
as the Rumblers defense gave up only two. That put the lead back out to 53-38
for the team in black and orange.

Ingersoll Rand and the Wrecking Crew countered with a 10-3 jam in the fifth jam
of the second half narrowing the lead to 56-48. Weapon X followed up with a 5-0
jam for the team in blue further narrowing the lead to 56-53. It looked like
this bout could go to either team midway through the second half.

However, Hockey Honey would help pull the big crucial jam of the night in the
eighth jam, as neither jammer would gain lead jammer status. The Rumblers
rookie, skating in her first derby bout ever, scored 13 points while the
Wrecking Crew jammer managed seven points in this jam that expanded the lead
back to a more manageable 69-60 margin for the Death Row Rumblers. Postal
Penny for the Rumblers added a 2-0 jam to up the lead to 11 points in the ninth
jam. Weapon X counted with a 2-0 jam, and Ingersoll Rand added a 7-4 jam for
the Wrecking Crew, but it was not enough to get the lead as the team in orange
and black took a 75-69 victory as the clock ran out.

Leading scorers for the Death Row Rumblers were Hockey Honey with 31 points,
Postal Penny with 18 points, and Heike De Skirt with 13 points. Top blockers
for the Rumblers were Professor Kaos, Desi Deck 'Em, Filmore Pain, and Suture
Sally.

The defending champion Slaughterers used a hard-hitting defense and defeated the Wrecking Crew 81-41 Saturday night in North Richland Hills. In the first game of the Dallas Derby Devils event, the High Seas Hotties utilized several big jams to outscore the Suicide Shifters 117-61.

The Slaughterers would open up with a 4-1 jam by The Shocker. Then they would shut out the Wrecking Crew and utilize a 10-point jam by The Pusher to take a 19-1 lead after five jams. Ingersoll Rand would strike back with a 3-0 jam for the Wrecking Crew, but Keltic Kamikaze would counter with a 10-0 jam in the eighth jam of the first stanza for the defending champs, and The Pusher would follow it up with a 4-3 advantage to give the Slaughterers a 33-7 lead after nine jams.

Both teams would slug it out defensively the next two jams with the Slaughterers taking a 35-7 lead after eleven jams. The Wrecking Crew's Ingersoll Rand would score the high jam of the half for her team, a 5-0 score to narrow the Slaughterers lead at the half to 35-12.

A strange trend was beginning to emerge in this game. The double header was being played under WFTDA 3.1 rules, and jammers were starting to have to skate a lot of consecutive jams because of cutting the track penalties. The Pusher would have to skate the last four consecutive jams of the first half for her team because of penalties. But this would not be unique to her.

In the opening jams of the second half, Ingersoll Rand would skate five of the first six jams for the Crew in the second half because of cutting the track penalties. She would score 18 points in the first three jams, but Maniac McGee would garner a big jam in the third jam with 17 unofficial points for the Slaughterers before that jam was called early because both jammers were in the penalty box.

The officials tried to decide who was on the track with the jam ended with both jammers being penalized at the same time. And somehow those 17 points that appeared after the third jam could have been divided up between the second and third jam. Despite that confusion, the bout went on with the official score being 55-30 in favor of the Slaughterers.

The Shocker would take the jammer helmet cover and score ten points in the fourth jam, but Ingersoll Rand would come out of the box and pull a jammer takeout of The Shocker to slow that scoring run. The defensive struggle would reassert itself with the Slaughterers outscoring the Wrecking Crew 3-0 and taking a 68-30 lead after the eighth jam.

Dolla' Billen would score a 5-3 jam for the Crew in the ninth jam, but The Pusher would counter right back with a 10-3 jam for the Slaughterers moving the score out to an 81–38 advantage. Dolla' Billen would end the game on an almost positive note for the Wrecking Crew on a 3-0 jam, but that jam ended after both jammers had been sent to the penalty box for cutting the track majors. With the final score of 81-41 in favor of the defending champs being put up on the scoreboard, and the refs decided there would not be another jam. With the game ending not surprisingly with some confusion, at least some skaters were happy that WFTDA 4.0 rules will be in force for DDD's next bout in June.

Leading scorers for the Slaughterers included The Pusher with 29 points, Maniac McGee with 17 points, along with Keltic Kamikaze and The Shocker with 14 points each. All individual scoring is unofficial. The Shocker was also one of the leading blockers for the Slaughterers as was her sister Kick Face Trace. Other top blockers for the Slaughterers were Ann R Key and Athena Monster.

The leading scorer for the Wrecking Crew was Ingersoll Rand with 27 points and Dolla' Billen chipped in with eight late points in the bout. Top blockers for the Wrecking Crew included Weapon X, Dirty Huckabee, Siouxsie B Sassie, and Clays Pride.
