Blog Archive
[Older      Newer]
 /  /
Saturday, March 22, 2008
Well it’s probably about time I updated this neglected site, this neglected blog of mine.  Truth is, I just don’t have a lot of time for the Internet at the moment, and when I do, it’s small stuff like a quick check of email and on Facebook, and a quick check on Myspace for new comments and messages and such.  I’m never leaving myself enough time to go through my photos and put them together in some kind of form for publication here.

Music’s been another distraction lately too. Been putting more time into writing and recording ideas to the computer take a lot of time away from the blogs and quite frankly, spending time on here totally destroys the creativity required for writing.  But, here I am and here you are.

I don’t expect this to be the most exciting blog on the face of the earth or even the face of the Joe Blogs, but the blogs are not only for ridiculous behaviour on my part, they’re a historical recording of my time out with friends and at home with Simone and Tex.  If I was to skip a month or skip many months in order to catch up to present day, I’d be missing the half the point. Thankfully, I’ve been kinda laid back with the photo taking in the last couple of months anyway so I expect these next few months of blogs to be a lot more smooth sailing and forthcoming. It really depends on what else my life is right now and how much time I have.  Thanks for reading these last three pointless paragraphs.

--------------------------------------------------------------

SATURDAY 3

Jack (of Roller Men fame) and I are asked to contribute to this month’s work news letter. Being NMovember, the Melbourne Cup seems like a good opportunity for us to make dicks of ourselves for the laughs of our colleagues.

On a Saturday morning, dressed in character, we get together with a couple of Beez Neez in North Adelaide for this photo with a horse - the horse we named Wizard’s Sleeve.

A few photos on the neighbouring cricket oval (actual game in progress) later...

and we have this....

MELBOURNE CUP CONTENDERS!

MONDAY 5

Buzzcock and I have the whole cinema to ourselves for Saw IV. Kind of says something about the movie, hey?

FRIDAY 9

Dinner and drinks after work.

SATURDAY 10

On my days off while Simone’s at work, I find trips to the beach quite relaxing. And wet.

SUNDAY 11

Cog and Dead Letter Circus at HQ.

WEDNESDAY 14

Muse at The Entertainment Centre

FRIDAY 16

What was meant to be a few quiet drinks after work with Cody, Tania and a few people from work down at the relaunch of the QA, quickly turned into boozefest when we realised the drinks were on the house. Before I knew it I was standing at the front of the stage, maybe by myself, for Kinetic Playground at Jive.  I don’t remember much of the night after  10pm.  Simone has supplied this wonderful photo of me when we got home as I ate pasta with my fingers.

SATURDAY 17

Being hung over from the night before should never stop you from going out and getting on it again. By "getting on it" I mean on a post box with 4 other people.  It also means getting on the piss again but I thought that was obvious.

SUNDAY 18

Oh, Simone.

FRIDAY 23

Forgot to mention that I decided to jump aboard Movember in ’07.  Could have went the handle bars or something else just as ridiculous but (a) my other Movember team mates already had those covered and (b) it was my duty to get amongst the Ranga Porn Mo.

SATURDAY 24

It’s not a roadtrip to Mallala if Simone doesn’t get a nap in! Actually, it’s not a complete week if Simone doesn’t get a nap or two in.  When the darkness falls, the lights come out - fire, sparklers and those neon sticks which I don’t have a name for. You know the ones.

I’m teaching Simone new words....

Oh, how humans amuse themselves.

SUNDAY 25

Movember continues. Our Mo team (of three) are competing for the Inaugural Brima’s Cup, which will be awarded to the team member with the best mo at the conclusion of Movember. With a mo like this, surely I’ve got the opposition beat.

FRIDAY 30

Movember draws to a close with the Brima’s Cup award ceremony in the Boardroom. Who will take out this prestigious inaugural award?!

Unfortunately I didn’t, but I would have hoped I would have got a special award just for my extremely tight shorts. Work colleagues will never look at me the same way again.

The mo’s come off!

The winner, Jarrod (aka Chopper), celebrates with the cup and the tongue of the mo-man himself, Brima’s.

The team managed to raise over $1200 on our first year. Not a bad effort. We hope next year will be even bigger and that I can get some funds from you crazy clowns too - I’d also like to take out the Cup too of course!

Later, two mo-less people come together to celebrate the end of the month and the end of kissing my moustache.

Later still, more mo-less people, in the form of Soft White Machine, get a groove on at the Electric Light Hotel....

....in support of yet more no-mo folk,  Mammal.

It’s a fairly rocking set, if I remember correctly - which is funny because I’m fairly drunk at this point on a few shots of Green Chartreuse, a shot of Bacardi 151, and who knows how many beers and vodkas. Seriously though, it was good. You can tell by this wonderful shot I took of Zeke’s groin. Amazing!

CAN I GET A HELL YEAH?....

MOVEMBER..... HELL YEAH.

970 and counting.

Saturday, January 05, 2008
As my hair gets a little bit longer, so do the days.
Daylight Saving is just around the corner.
Can nocturnal activites withstand the longer daylight hours?
Better make the most of the night while we can.

SATURDAY 6

The Vasco Era put on a show at Jive,
which is most certainly not perfect preparation for karaoke next door at Maxx's.

THURSDAY 11

It's someone's bright idea to piss up at The Duke of York again.
Hey, who can blame us when $1 beers and cheap spirits are up for the taking.
We also have the pleasure of bumping into the Big Friendly Giant (aka Matt) this night.
Piss in a glass anyone?

SATURDAY 13

Birds of Tokyo rock the foundations of Fowlers
with support from the punchy Soft White Machine.

FRIDAY 19

The Annual Friday Drunkening, otherwise known as the work pubcrawl, comes to town.
After midnight, people start moving their own way and we again find ourselves
flocking to Maxx Karaoke Bar like flies to a pile of shit.

OCTOBER 27

Joe & Simone's Inaugural Oktoberfest is here (known also as our house warming)
and it's time to get your sausage on and slap yourself stupid with a beer stein.
Thanks to everyone who made it.
You made it a great night.  Next year to be even bigger!
(Hope you all enjoyed the first batch of new home brew, Hosenbrau)

MONDAY 29

Texas Love Cat says, "PEACE OUT, MEOW!"

The 2007 Drink Count as at October 31: 851

FINISH

Friday, January 04, 2008
September - the first month of Spring; the month of footy and drugs and wankers in sport; a time for sharing (and shedding) pants; a time for loving; a month with 9 letters, which when rearranged spells the words bestemper, temperature, arse cheeks, booze, and rembeptes!

below you will find:
* aliens
* karaoke
* robots
* the answers to all your questions
* a homecoming
* Hosenbrau (pants brew)
* more nudity
* Texas Love Cat
* a chimney sweep
* the recipe for making Anzac biscuits like your great grandma used to make.

sit down, pour yourself a drink, stick your finger in your date and enjoy!

THURSDAY 6

The Homecoming Part 1

Cody (aka Rupert Smith, aka Buzzcock) arrives back to Adelaide this day after living interstate for many years and more recently from an 8 month trip OS. There's no time to waste with the celebrations.

After a brief warm up at home, Simone, Cody and I head to the Duke for drinks with Rach and Cathie and a cruisy Thursday night piss up on $1 beers, cheap bubbly and spirits.

I decided to leave out the photo of Simone throwing up over the neighbour's fence on the way home. It was too classy to appear here. Aaahhh, that's my girl!

FRIDAY 7

The Homecoming Part 2

The festivities continue on for another round, this time kicking off at Bar 76, moving through Shotz and adjourning at Rocket Bar.

...goodnight!

SATURDAY 8

The Homecoming Part 3

Tonight's sexy time is brought to us by the big fuck-off backyard party spectacular, also known as Pig's Birthday. Although I felt pretty crook for most of the night, it was a great time, and I even managed to drink so much that I ran out of booze and forgot about my illness, broke out in a patchy red face rash and continually fell backwards off a crate seat. PISSWRECK!!! You know it's a good party when you can mark these off a list:
* pipe band
* massive back yard fire
* live band jams
* an outdoor pub urinal trough
* an outdoor toilet
* hundreds of obscure items hidden amongst the garden
* dog's cunt

...lights out!

TUESDAY 11

We take this short intermission so Cody can get some sleep

WEDNESDAY 19

It's been over 7 years since I made homebrew and it was time to give it another crack.
The day for bottling the brew has finally arrived. The official Oktoberfest 2007 beer, Hosenbrau, that will fuel the upcoming inaugural Oktoberfest celebrations is looking the goods. time will tell.....

FRIDAY 21

work at the house continues but time is running out for Simone and I to move in there before the current lease is up and before Oktoberfest (aka the housewarming) arrives. Luckily Cody owns a spare pair of hands, and we can use these for painting.

SATURDAY 22

Tonight is Nick's (aka The Captain, aka The CG Prez) birthday down at the bay and it's a perfect day for a tram trip and a brew or two.

A few of us eventually head for the higher ground of town, more booze and some sexy time dancing

Here's about where it get's ugly. I don't actually remember much, if anything, about the following acts, but apparently I headed for enigma by myself after everyone else had taken off home. I again scale the inside of the chiminey for amusement.

I finally start my walk/jog/run home at 6:30 in the morning. It was probably a longer walk than usual, considering I went the long way and was definitely in no shape to walk straight, let alone stand up, but I got home safe .....again.

FRIDAY 28

The final after work booze up for the month of September (Remember what I said about it being the month of pants? Well, this is that time) starts where else but at work, then continues to Marble Bar for 'two for one cocktails', wrestling matches, cocktail glass jenga and....

PANTS DOWN!

We also hit Tequilaria and Max Karaoke Bar, but I thought the pants down was the most important part here.

SATURDAY 29

There's been a bit of talk about a new Mad Max movie coming to cinemas - well, we have clips from it right here.

WEDNESDAY 1

Simone and I are on the move to a house cross town, but before we can move in, we need to clean the place up.

The first stage is removing the wallpaper from every room

And now time for a quick TEXAS UPDATE!

THURSDAY 2

work at the house continues

FRIDAY 3

having this whole week off has been great.  putting work on the house on hold for today, simone and i decide to go driving through a number of towns in the hills (also a mission to recover as many beer steins from family stores as possible - more on that later).  on our journey we see many entertaining things, stop for some kick arse icecream in woodside and consider buying horse poo for no reason.

on our way home i took a dirt road for something to do and we happen to stumble apun these horses. awesome.

later that evening i got stuck into some beers, warm up for shane and louie's going away do at the sceptre.  and here's where it all  went pear-shaped....

everyone left for an early night, something i should have done, but somehow jimmy and i managed to fail this task and kick on into the early hours of the morning.  on our drunken stumblings (cranka, shotz, hindly street) we run into dave.  to tell you the truth most of the night after the crown & sceptre is a complete blur.

before i know it, i'm at a bp subway around the corner from home buying a pepper steak pie.  after standing in a bus shelter eating the pie for some time, while it poured with rain all around me, i made a dash back to subway for warmer cover.

hours later, i woke up realising i'd fallen asleep (passed out), and quickly peeled my head off the table and made for home.  i even passed a destressed simone in the street as she made her way to work for the morning. poor girl had been worried about where i was. luckily, no harm had come to me as i slept at the 24 hour petrol station.

SATURDAY 4

TUESDAY  7

my birthday

SATURDAY 11

NUDE!

FRIDAY 17

simone and i have decided to meet up after work and drink the shots board at the cranka and nothing else just to see how much, if anything, these shots will do to us.

the plan was thrown out the window when after finishing up, we made the mistake of dropping into my parents place a few blocks away.

the shots at cranka

more drinks at bar 76

and the stumble about town

the cranka shots experiment was documented on video for your viewing pleasure.  simone and i had no idea that a "quiet night" would quickly turn into a drunken storm of alcohol and dancing.  we originally had other plans for the video, including an opening sequence to be shot by simone and i but it never eventuated given that we were busy with other commitments, but here's how it came up.

FRIDAY 24

another after work drinking session is looming.  unfortunately i have to work back for a few hours. simone meets me at work and we eventually get sinking the piss.

simone decided to shoot her own little doco of the night.  little did she suspect a couple of drunken loons would spoil it for her.

FRIDAY 6 JULY

Tonight hosts the annual work End Of Financial Year Party, featuring live music and dj, awesome three course meal and all you can drink!!!

The theme for tonight is formal with, like many other work functions in '07, a touch of "Bond" (007). Not one to stick strictly to a theme, I printed myself up a Bonds t-shirt to wear with the dinner suit jacket I picked up at the salvos for $30. Hot!

Like last year, I decided to partake in a visual drink count (infact, the one-off 2006 drink count that inspired the entire-2007 drink count this year).

Unfortunately, the drink count photos didn't last long this time around as I was too busy having my head blown off, both figuratively and literally.

The gun fighting continued for the rest of the evening.
Frederico, pulling his gun on my camera, was soon to get a taste of explosive revenge, as my steel penetrated deep into his engine room.

Not long after everyone started to move from the function centre to the cooler surroundings of an inner city bar. Frederico and I had other ideas and made our way on foot to the Sceptre. We arrived at the Crowneptre some time later, after gun fighting all the way there, even shooting at oncoming taxis ferrering our drunken colleagues.

At the Scepticle, where we joined by Peanie Beanie, the shoot outs continued further, irritating other patrons.
Go ahead punks, make my day.
"007, Blogs. Joe Blogs"

Frederico and The Peanie Poo agree with me that we should head for home. I follow them into their taxi and continue firing hot slugs into Frederico's face, while the taxi driver listens on, trembling at thought that I might turn my pieces of fury on him too.

I finally depart the taxi, leaving the seats riddled with bullets, stained with blood and peppered with brain pieces, walking into a near-to-home BP at around 2am (a very early night by my usual standards).

Purchasing a Pepper Steak Pie from Brumby's, I record this little number for a forthcoming Planger b-side.

SATURDAY 7 JULY

It's Moira's birthday, hell yeah!
She's decided to come over from Chlamydiaville to Adelaide to celebrate with her SA friends. HELL YEAH!

Going back in this story a few days.... when she arrived by choo-choo on Thursday evening, Gee, Simone and I were there to meet her, whisking her off to the Chocolate Bean soon after for chocolate/sugar overload. Witnessing the sugar rush in Gee and Moira, followed by the sugar low soon after, was quite entertaining. There's never a dull moment when those two get together.

So, jumping back to Saturday, Sara has volunteerd my place for a little suprise birthday party for Moira before we head into town in the later evening, while Gee and I arrange for me to kidnap Moira from town to bring her back to the party blindfolded. The poor girl had no idea what was happening.

A small group of us sit in my loungeroom drinking, eating the birthday cupcakes Simone and I made, playing Whac-A-Mole and having a great time. Later we all hit the street on the way to the bus stop (Moira hits the street literally when she fallson her arse in awesome style) for tonights entertainment, The Red Paintings - a few of the girls being involved in the show as painters and paintees.

After a brief stop in at the Crown & Anchor, the mob hits The Producers where The Red Paintings are to play tonight. The hugs, boob-grabs, stacks and laughter begins....

When the stacks do happen, they happen in a big way. Legs and arms are flailing, tutu's twirling, underwear flashes - generally it's a human smash-up of epic proportions.

The Family Reunion

And now for the musical (and visual) entertainment for the evening - The Red Paintings

Following the show, a few head home while others kick on at the Cranka. Earlier in the afternoon, I painted up a t-shirt that read "MOIRA IS LEGAL" to wear with the aim to get a bunch of people to sign the back of it. With a few people are over at the Enigma Bar tonight, Simone and Spoz make it their mission to take the shirt of my back and get more signatures across town. So after being left mostly topless, Gee lends me her nets and corsset for the rest of the evening. HOT!

Moira, Gee and I hang at the Cranka for a bit with a quiet drink before heading to the dancefloor for some shameless dancing.

It gets real crazy from here when we head to Shallots for more dancing and drinks that taste like shitz.

All the excitement makes the birthday girl hungry.

And then it's MADNESS!

And finally, in a last display of absolute class, Moira and Gee finish the night at Shotz aroundf about the same way they started it hours earlier - in a big fuck-off mess of legs, tutu's, underwear and awesomeness!

FRIDAY 20 JULY

The nights you plan to "be quiet", the one's when you say you'll "take it easy" hardly ever work out as intended. It was a quite Friday night in when SImone and I again found ourselves hitting the booze after a day's work. What started as a few drinks in the boardroom soon became many and soon led us to a brief stop in at the Exeter. An 'sos' from Jane looking to be rescued from a night at Mansions sparks us into a drinking fury of anything alcoholic money can buy.

It all goes fairly quickly, the night wrapping up after a stint at Cranka and quick stop over at the infamous Shotz Bar, ending with me falling asleep in the bathtub (again) while in the middle of cleaning my teeth.

SATURDAY 28 JULY

RoboBoozeCon 3007

In celebration of Paul's production from mum's robot factory a few decades ago, we find ourselves at Robot City, where humans are killed on site. Robot disguise is necessary. Assimilate or face extermination.

..hotobucket.com/albums/e278/lovelivechoose2/20070728/070728_001.jpg">

We blended in quite well really - "re-fueling" through a hose and funnel with Smirnoff Black Ice and engaging in Robot Pinata with Robert The Robot (pinata).

Robots unmasked can be unpleasant. Some are best to keep their heads on.
Attack!

End transmission.

Almost.

Ok, now that I've pumped that blog out (including lame and rushed text), it's now time to close with the year-to-date (Jan-July) 2007 Drinks Count.

To date, and in brief, this is how it looks:

Obviously spirits are still way up there, possibly now taking more of the overall percentage than we last checked with the stats.

Total January - July: 517
Total cost January - July: $1402.70

Not really on track to hit 1000 by the end of the year I must admit, but still plenty of boozy opportunites.

Good night!

Wednesday, August 22, 2007
434 : $1267.70

Late in December 2006 I decided, for reasons I can no longer recall, that I would tally every drink I consumed throughout the year 2007. It's now August and yes, I'm still going. 8 months of recording every alcoholic drink I have - what it was and how much it cost me.

"Why?" I hear you ask.
My standard answer to this question has been something along the lines of, "it's a social experiment" or "to see how much I have drunk and wasted on alcohol in the year."

At the moment, the results don't really mean a lot because this is the first time I've done this. There's nothing to compare it to. I mean, sure, I can see how each month compares to the other but that's about it. What does that mean for me? Well, what it means is that I'm intending on doing this next year too. Yep, this is dedication.

My guess is that if I had started this last year, I would see that I've actually drunk and spent less in 2007. Last year I drank a lot. I mean, I still drink a fair bit off and on these days, but generally I drink a little less and have had less massive nights out on the booze. I shouldn't speak to early though, there's still half the year ahead of me, and still plenty of nights out to come. Given that the later months of the year seem to involve more birthdays and the whole "festive season" thing, my guess is there's going to be some big numbers to help bump up the average by year end. But time, and the figures, will tell.

Here's how the first half of January looks for the 2007 Drink Count:

DRINKS BY MONTH

Clearly March was a biggish month and I'm not suprised. With nights like the one's that spawned Roller Men, the nights like this and this, and a massive hosing over in Melbourne on a night seeing Helmet and diving into suburban wheelie bins on the way home, it really is no wonder.

It's interesting to note that while only drinking a handful of drinks more than in June, March cost me nearly twice as much. So how exactly does a drink count of 105 and cost of $211.10 in June equating to a drink averaging at around $2 a drink work exactly? Two reasons: 1) I haven't yet counted the cost of buying bottles of vodka for home use, and 2) "work privileges".

On the other end of the scale sits January and February at 52 and 39. Poor effort really when you think about it, given the oportunites available in the hot Summer months. Quite simply, this was the period of time in which I took 34 days off drinking. The break did my body a world of good. I'd like to be able to say I can squeeze one more of these longer breaks in by the end of the year but with all the stuff coming up til New Years, it's going to be tough.

DRINKS BY TYPE

Clearly spirits is the most popular choice this period at 41% of the overall count, followed most closely by beer at 29%. I've found that this year, as I said earlier, I've been drinking a bit less. Had I graphed this last year, I'm pretty sure I would have discovered that I drank a lot more beer. Whether it would have caught up to spirits any more is another question, especially considering I usually drink vodka when I'm at home, with the exception of a few beers here and there. Not being much of  wine drinker, 17 in 6 months is fairly suprising to me.

THE BREAK DOWN

So here's how the count for each drink is looking so far. I wasn't kidding when I said I was recording everything. Sure, I could have recorded what time I drank them and in what order, or whether I chucked my guts up after a particular combination, but if I did that I'd probably find myself spending more time recording the data than actually drinking. Note to self, could be a way to decrease or stop my drinking!

Between January and June I drank a lot of Vodka Lime Soda's, clearly, and also spent the most on this drink. Vodka & Orange being not far behind, followed by Coopers Pale Ale and Corona. I've kind of gone off the lime and soda option a bit lately. Most of the ones recorded above would have been sunk in the first quarter, so I expect this number to slow  momentum as I count through the later half of this year. It's also nice to note here the number of drinks I score for free through work. Makes you realise how much a firm spends on alcohol for their employees! Bonus!

Like I said earlier, compared to last year, this is probably nothing. I do wonder what the count would have been in 2006. I'm pretty sure it would be hitting around 600 instead of 434 by this stage in the year last year, and well above this years total 6-month expenditure of $1267.70.

With 6 months left in the year, where exactly do you think I'm going to find myself?
It's going to be interesting to see whether I double it or not. Given the fact that this experiment is a bit of a sobering eye-opener (pun intended), will it subconsiously cause me to ease up, driving my average down or will I learn absolutely nothing and continue to torture my insides? Or given the approaching 'festive season' and dozens of birthdays and other celebratory events, will the tally rocket to ridiculous numbers and explode in a brain-rotting high 2007 end result?!
Time, my mobile phone for recording the drinks, a well organised and comprehensive spreadsheet, and this blog will tell.

Cheers!
Joe

FRIDAY 1

In celebration of a work friend's birthday, I kick off a Friday night in the boardroom at work with the gang. One drink becomes, three, three becomes five, five becomes a few visits to the toilet, etcetera, etcetera....

A couple beers, black russians, tequila shots, and vodkas later and I find myself at the Marble Bar

At the Marble bar, after a few more vodkas, a sparkling white, and two Long Island Ice Teas, I find myself in an argument with one of my colleagues. In an attempt to smooth it over and show my 'no hard feelings', I buy him a drink. I decide what better way to show no hard feeling than to buy a drink that should completely send this already drunk drunk over the edge - a shot of absinth dropped in a glass of Smirnoff Double Black Ice. Thing is, not only did it send him falling on his face, literally, but it also pushed me over a cliff in a big way.

It's nearing 10 or 11pm by this stage and after being denied re-entry to the bar, I head for the east end of town, where Simone has set up camp. At the same time, I've arranged to meet Jes somewhere along the way. He eventually finds me dancing around a post in the mall to the sounds of my walkman phone all by myself. Simone arrives a short time later to find Jes virtually carrying my every step. As we head for Hungry Jacks, I force Jes into a photo or two of the Mall Pigs.

We eventually make it to Hungry Jacks where I apparently threw up in an abandoned pair of shoes in the toilets. Classy.

After a few more shots at the Cranka (no idea how I was allowed more alcohol) a few of us head on over to Shotz. Along the way, I throw my self head-first over railing which to my suprise almost leads to me falling 5 metres below onto concrete. I'm only saved from cracking my head open by a hand on a rail and several people catching my legs.

Also on the way, I prove just how drunk I am by collapsing on the wet ground.

But wait. I'm still good, see!

Ok, maybe not that good.

Not at all really.

Lights out on the dancefloor.

SATURDAY 2

Feeling a little very under the weather the morning after the night before right before Simone tells me it's the most drunk she had ever seen me.

In the afternoon I remember that I'm meant to be helping out the awesome Gee with some of her photography work. I eventually pull myself together in the evening for a photoshoot in town which has me posing at bus stops, phone boxes and under various street lighting in monkey, elephant, and giraffe masks.

In the end, it's a fairly subdued night, with both photographer and subject being a little tired and not quite on their games in the usual crazy-happy department. In a final run, as the rain sets in, I capture Gee in her own mask on the other side of the camera.

And here are just a few of the results from the evening from the the awesome work of Gee Greenslade. Check out her photograpahy, painting, drawing and general awesomeness at her new website www.missgee.net

SUNDAY 3

a few photos for the journal

FRIDAY 8

A quiet night after work in the boardroom quickly becomes half a carton of Coronas. Simone even stops by for a few as a we entertain ourselves with chatter and camera posing. After 4 or 5 hours, we head to the upstairs bar of the Union for ridiculously overpriced drinks, before Simone and I head for home. Sold!

SATURDAY 9

When catching up with Jes the week earlier (when I was too pissed to remember this actual conversation), Simone and I arranged with him to drive up to his and Kez's place at Malalla for a night of "getting really drunk".

On the way up, Simone and I stop for some late lunch at Subway.

We restart our mini roadtrip soon after, heading north for the drunkening....

....to arrive an hour or so later as the sun tucks itself away in the twilight hours

Simone's Trotters & Harvey's Paws

One vodka, two vodka, three vodka, ten billion vodkas.....

As the night wears on, the drunken cracks start to open up in everyone's sobriety.

A crazy here, a song there.

Harvey (the most awesome Ridgeback ever) is everyone's friend, forceably in most cases

As the drinks be drunk, the gremlins be coming out from the basement and be joining in many a sing-song.

Many vodka's and Cowboy Cocksuckers later, things get hazy. Things get crazy.
I get lazy and I lay on the floor with Harvey firmly pressed to my jaw, and now I'm crawling but still crawling and falling for more.

As things start wrapping up and coming to a close, we be good kiddies and brush our teeth. Some of us needing more assistance than others.

And finally for my final trick, as I wander aimlessly with yet another drink, I attempt to sit back on a glass-top table. Misjudging the distance down, I stumble and fall straight back into and through that table, miraculously achieving only two skin slices, the deeper of the two probably required stitches.

Apparently four or five people had to hold me down so that anticeptic could be applied to my back without me squirming away. In the end, everything was ok. Thumbs up to a great time.

WEDNESDAY 13

Work and play

When Simone sends me a picture from work of a pile of boxes and says, "3, 2, 1, jump", surely the only response to send back is of that very thing.

FRIDAY 15

Yet another monthly "special drinks" at work on a Friday night - this time it's a "kid's party", complete with Hopscotch, Pin The Tale on The Donkey, Fairy bread, red drinks, jelly shots, punch, alcoholic...... ok, not for little kiddies.

This evening's drink count in visual....

Also on tonight is Karnivool (supported by Dead Letter Circus and Bushido) a band I've been hanging to see again for a while. Having heard a bit from friends about the supports, I was also quite keen to check them out too.

BUSHIDO

Unfortunately, I didn't get a decent photo of DEAD LETTER CIRCUS. Thought they started a bit rough but as they churned through the set, they got better. Wanted to catch them supporting The Butterfly Effect recently (a show in which I would have left before the headliner actually came on) but selling out kinda prevented me from doing that. Better luck for me next time.

KARNIVOOL
Finally the guys are back. Kinda crappy venue but enjoyed the show never the less. The inclusion on four newer tracks was nice.

THURSDAY 21

An impromptu drink after work quickly becomes a couple then a whole bunch as $1 beers and $3 pizzas strike at the Duke Of York.

FRIDAY 22

It's been a crazy week at work and Friday 5pm doesn't see the end of it. Instead, I find myself working back til 8 with a few drinks and some music to keep me going..... insane

After a quick bite to eat at Burp Burrito, I check out friends Villa and Paul perform in WHAT YOU DID. Entertaining.

And then it's back to work to take off where I left off 45 minutes earlier. Being driven insane.

But soon enough I finish up and head to (dare I say it) the Stag to catch up with friends not seen for some time. We entertain ourselves with window art (kicked off with my faceprint), fake flowers, bar stools, and ridiculous dance moves ('the helicopter', 'gun fighter', 'crazy arms' to name a few) that actually fool some gay guys into thinking they're good moves, and copying them in an attempt to impress. Yes, one of them even attempted to pick me up. Funny I guess.

SATURDAY 23

This night is brought to you by the letters, M (for Moira) and B (for Booster), and the numerals 6 and 2 just because they were the first two numbers that popped ito my head as I sit here eating my tomato soup and toast.

Our awesome friend and fashion designer Moira, who previously made me the first Joe Bunny, "Snuggles", has come up with yet another wacky piece, this time for Spoz. The stripey elf beanie from Dirt Child first arrives on Spoz's head, before being passed around to Sara, Simone and myself, where it stays for most of the night. I can honestly say it was the best beanie I've ever worn.

The reason for the outing this cool June night is for Booster's CD launch upstairs at Enigma, with support from Your Motive For, Angelik, and The Dairy Brothers.

THE DAIRY BROTHERS

NOT The Diary Brothers

ANGELIK

YOUR MOTIVE FOR

BOOSTER
The band we were here to see and support put on a rockin show of sex, drugs and rock n roll, and a little near-miss spew onto my good self from the ever-entertaining skinsman, Kempy.

After the show, Simone, Sara and myself head for some shameful dance-time at Shotz. Along the way we stop by the office so that Sara may share her appreciation to the star of the Roller Men movie, Jack, by copying/scanning her breasts for him to find on Monday morning.

We finally hit Shotz somewhere around 4am and catch up with Spoz, who is already well embedded in the dancefloor shenanigans of the slippery checkered Shotz floor, and dance ourselves well into the early sun-up hours of Sunday morning.

FRIDAY 29

I round June off with a performance from Melbournites, .Hinge - a band I have been listening to a bit of late - road testing their new material from the now recently released LP  "The Rise And Fall Of Living Great".

The half-year drinks tally to arrive soon

MAY 2007

The catch-up continues.

04.05.2007

After many shots of tequila and god knows what else, I find myself at Enigma catching a set from Tony Font Show. Being kinda drunk at the time, All I can remember that it was fun. Body's colliding, people singing, drunken fun. After the show, Simone and I head to the Cranka with Spoz for more body smashing and general drunken behaviour.

TONY FONT SHOW

Heading to HJ's, I suddenly get a queeziness in the stomach that can only be relieved by immediate stomach evacuation. Gross, I know, but a photoblogger knows no boundaries. Some of you may have already seen this mess when I mms'd it around to various people in my phone contacts. Mmmmm, just look at those hot dog chunks. Awesome.

There's now a hole to fill after evacuating the entire contents of my stomach (Felafel House Superdog, 3 billion tequillas, beer, snacks, Shmirnoff, etc), a hole that needs filling with shit, aka Hungry Jacks. Foolery follows.

The foolery continues on outside when we turn your ordinary council road signs and traffic cones into toys for our amusement.

The final assault on my body occurs when I decide it's a good idea (and photo op) to jump on the back of a stationary truck. The joke's on me. The truck speeds away around the corner leaving me wondering where i'm heading. The only way off is to roll. Face, meet bitumen.

05.05.2007

Beep.

10.05.2007

Somehow I find myself drinking by myself on a Thursday night while talking to people on msn. One drink leads to another and before long I've polished off several Vodkas and am entertaining Cody on webcam by following his instructions and throwing flour in my face. 4am bedtime, 7am wake up for work.

12.05.2007

Back at the Enigma Bar for another cracker of a live show. Birds Of Tokyo play an absolutely awesome show. Couldn't really ask for better. I'm kinda spewing I didn't take my camera along and had to use my phone for a few snaps. Thing is, I never noticed at the time. I was too busy having a great time.

SOFT WHITE MACHINE

BIRDS OF TOKYO

Another quick Texas catch up..... We discover he likes to help brush teeth.

18.05.2007

Work special drinks are on again! This time it's mexican night with plenty of music, food, and drink from Mexico.

Skull a jug of margurita anyone?

Many margurita, 7 Coronas, 2 tequila shots, and 1 vodka lime and soda later....

Simone arrives and after a few more vodkas we head to the Cranka.
Definitely really drunk.

In the early hours of the morning we find ourselves at Shotz with Spoz. It doesn't take long for people to spot Joe Blogs and grab photos.

Thank you to Spoz for capturing my handbag posing.....
(I don't even know who the other guy is in these photos.)

.....and naptime outside in a stairwell.

25.05.2007

How many times does this happen to you?
You're on your way home from work or wherever and everything is fine, everything is good, no need for a toilet. But the closer you get to your front door, the more you need to go. Your brain and body have this fucked up way of playing games with you. It gets to a point where you have trouble getting the key in your front door because you're too shakey from holding yourself back from pissing your pants. We always tend to make it just in time but yeah, one day, it's going to totally get you and you're going to be standing there pissing in your pants and losing at life.

So here's me in those last moments before piss pants crisis, with my magical finger key, actually stopping to take a photo of the moment for the blog. The things I do for you, hey?! That night it was close. I nearly didn't make it.

Those last moments of opening your fly are scary, but in the end, the relief is great.
Again with taking photos while trying not to piss myself. Have dedication anyone?!!

Before heading out to town, I find myself in semi-darkness listening to The Police with a vodka and orange. Calm in this moment.

Tonight's destination: The Crown & Anchor Hotel for some metal from A Red Dawn and Lapdancer. But first, more lubrication.

A RED DAWN

More lubrication with friends.

LAPDANCER

Llama loves sausage. Actually, Llama loves everybody.

Good times, good times.

And then I disappear into the night. The cool fluorescent night.

26.05.2007

Yeah.

That afternoon, I think I saw the scariest looking department store mannequin ever.
Later that night, The Blog Hog is born for a night out in town.

This night we're at Jive for another Tony Font Show set.
My camera is also stolen for the evening. That is, I give myself the night off my by allowing others to take the photos. I decided not to include the photos of the female hygine units and toilet cubicals. God knows where else my camera went that night.

31.05.2007

Yep, just another pantsless day at the office.

DRINKS DRINKS DRINKS

Drink tally would normally go here but I can't be arsed writing it up so you'll just have to believe me that it was lots and it cost me money.

Thanks, please come again.

TONY FONT SHOW

MAMMAL

05.04.2007

The Pigman is in town for one last hosing before he heads to Kansas.
[Please refer to this video for some gold moments of Pigman].
It's so so unfortunate I didn't have my camera on my this night. With all the singing of "she's a flat -chested..." sea-shanties and smashing of glasses, it's a crime I only caught these few shots with my phone camera.

Previous Mall Pig molestations can be found here, here, here, and here, but kids, the rundle mall pigs will never be the same again after this little number...

11.04.2007

Just a quiet Wednesday at home on my home. Nothing abnormal here. Might do some shaving though. 1, 2, 3, 4, presto!

In between beard alterations, I decide to entertain myself a little (and others through bulletins) with the following....

First up, ....I'm pretty sure I don't have what it takes to be emo.

I'm not exactly sure what happened here. Mullet Possession of some kind I think....

Andfinally, this speaks for itself.....

12.04.2007

Yep, just a normal day at work.

21.04.2007

After heading down Dirty South for the first stint of Jono's 621st birthday, I then head where a bbq is cranking. FLAMAGE!
An hour or so later and Simone and I find ourselves between two black russians.

Then it's off to Jive to catch a set from Booster, filling in time with a few rounds of 'little dudes on sticks' with Warwick and Heidi.

BOOSTER

Not Booster

A bunch of us monkeys find ourselves on stage at the last song.
Duuuude, we're in the baaand, maaan!

Spoz, can I play with your....?.....

After the show a fwe of us head to Enigma so that Simone and I can catch back up with Jono for his birthday. Only problem is the man is too drunk to do much more than sit quietly on a couch.

So naturally, I climb up the inside of a chimny!

and climb walls with Simone, Spoz and Sean.

The ride to the Cranka

It's all a blurry mess from here....

Cupcakes anyone?

Quarter past 5 comes around fairly quickly and I find myself outside Shotz talking to Stoner Andy about.... god knows what.
The walk home by myself (Simone left some time ago) begins. For the first time on my adventures home I pass through this church. It's also the first night I'm packing a bottle of talcum powder. There was some talcum-vandalism performed throughout the night but I have decided to keep those ones out of the blog and this one in.

Also on my way home, I engage in some lone hedgediving/faceplant action.

Unfortunately when I awake later that day, I find I have stained SImone's sheets with blood (an injury I had unknowingly obtained in the hedgediving), grass, dirt, hedge, soot from the Enigma chimney, and a drool stain the colour of the Beam & Cola's I downed at Shotz.

25.04.2007
ANZAC DAY

I decided to document my ANZAC Day with Simone via a series of completely random photos I then sent to Cody in Spain via MMS. It's unfortunate that I had forgotten that he can't receive my MMS over there.

Monday, July 02, 2007
When I woke up on this morning I knew straight away that I would be blogging.
Slight return to the old way - take every photo myself. If there was a photo to be taken, there would be a way to take it without the aid of others.
And so began March 3 2007....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

11:04am
Wakey, wakey, hands off snakey!

After getting off the snake, Simone and I took a little road trip to see how Texas was doing.

12:49pm
This little guy is so cute and getting bigger by the minute!

2:06pm
Drop Simone off at home and get some vacuuming in.
Own that carpet and shizzle, yo.

2:08pm
The vacuum turns on me

No one owns me like that!
No one takes me for a ride!
EXCEPT VACUUM CLEANER!

We wrestle on the floor for a bit until I decide to put vacuum up against vacuum.

BATTLE SUCKING ROYALE!

After much sucking and a Cobra Death Touch from the sucker in the blue corner....

....The Champion is crowned.

3:11pm
The loser, the sucker of this story, is punished by being made to help out with a few backyard and indoor chores

3:20pm
Is there a better time then right now for some extreme vacuum sports?

And while we're on the topic of random sports, Shopping Trolley Wrestling. It's all the rage these days. All the kids are doing it. It's the next fad. Get off the net and wrestle a trolley today!

4:26pm
You may remember Shopping Trolley from my random adventures, here and here.

4:39pm
After Shopping Trolley is defeated, I decide to take some time out with him/her/it(?) and we indulge in some naptime together. Trolley Wrestling and Extreme Vacuum Diving is hard work after all.

5:22pm
The Shower Shoot
Yes, a normal shower experience for Joe Blogs (please note that to prevent excess water wastage, the water was caught and used for watering the garden, filling up icecube trays, and stored in the fridge for drinking water. This was also my actual shower for the day.)

6:01pm
After the shower I make myself a pizza, literally.

7:15
For dessert, Captain Frog Man and I have some Vogo (two parts chocolate yogo, one part vodka)

7:26pm
And now for the saddest moment of the whole night - when I have to say goodbye to my dear friend, Shopping Trolley. I've lost friends before like Ducky and The Knob but they've  always come back to me. This time, with Shopping Trolley, it's goodbye forever.
Many tears are shed. This is our last goodbye.

And just like that, Shopping Trolley is gone, last seen screaming down the backstreets of Blogville.

7:32pm
The parting of my good friend causes me to turn to the bottle.

7:56pm
On my way to the bus stop.... FACEPLANT!
That was for everyone who keeps telling me I don't do faceplants anymore. more to come soon.

11:33pm
Later at the Crown & Anchor, I meet a few new friends. One of them, Mattress, says he'll buy me a drink if I walk through the bar topless. Free Drink!
This is also about the time that I forget that I'm meant to be taking all these blog photos myself and hand over the camera.

1:00am
While on a mission to rescue Simone from a nearby work function (like she needed rescuing, the girl was pissed and having a great time wearing other people's clothes!), Spoz and I stop at Suicide Tower.
Death is imminent. Reverse Faceplant Of Death!!!

1:12am
Suicide is followed closely by breakdancing of some description on the back of someone's uterus.

2:22am
Later on in the night, we hit Shotz for some fuckoff dancing and shooting action - This be where I take back the camera.

4:19am
My night kinda falls in a heap here.
At about 5 past 4 in the morning I get an sms on my phone from the auto-phone-dialer in the server room at work.
"COMPUTER ROOM TEMPERATURE HIGH 28"
I arrive at work a few minutes later to find the server room hitting the 40 degrees mark and a portable aircon unit that looked like it fell straight outta Lost In Space.

Eventually I leave work and head back to Shotz to rejoin the loonies only to find they've all pissed off home somewhere leaving me to find my own way home and no phone credit to call them.
It's lucky for them that my night was made complete by CHICKENS on the way home at 6:15am

What started out as a quiet night at home wearing Simone's necklace soon became a night which will change the way you feel about cinamatography. This is the most important night in film history (apart from the other time when Mullets was created, oh and that other night when Futzenschest ruled the earth, oh and...... I could go on), this is the night Roller Men became heroes.

11:58pm

DEFTONES
Thebarton Theatre

taken from lovelivechoose.livejournal.com:

Deftones last night was great!

i've been hanging out to see them since the first time i saw them back in 1999 at flinders uni for the Vans Warped Tour. at that point i'd been into them for a few years already, getting into them just as the 'single' tracks from Around The Fur were spilling onto australian radio (thank you triple j's three hours of power) back in 97 - frekuck! that's over 10 years ago!

i was just out of high school when i saw them last and that's a long time between shows - i missed seeing them when they toured the east coast for big day out and east coast side shows - so i wasn't sure how i would take them on again. i'd downloaded their sydney show (you can get it here) a few days ago. listening to it got me very keen to see them again.

to paint a small picture, i have a lot of deftones music - heaps of b-sides, demo recordings, obscure covers, and live shows spanning spanning from 1990. they use to be, for many years, one of my favourite bands. i haven't been so much into their newer stuff since the Deftones album of 2003, which was definitely their weakest. the new album is kinda cool in some ways but has absolutely nothing on the Adreneline, Around The Fur and White Pony releases. Seeing and hearing the recent sydney setlist include old tracks was exciting.

Ok, so the guys have put on some pounds, no question, but they still give the stage a fair crack. For the most part the energy was there. I really enjoyed it. The set was pretty damn cool, taking tracks from all the albums except Deftones, which lets face it, i don't think anyone got upset about.

[edit] amongst so many other things, one of the highlights was when chino sang "go get your knife, go get your knife and kiss me" and george, who was standing right next to me, kissed me on the cheek. haha! awesome. [/edit]

songs in the setlist that i've mananged to recall were, in vague order:

Be Quite And Drive (Far Away)
My Own Summer (Shove It)
Lhabia
Feiticeira
Passenger
Engine No. 9
Root
Around The Fur
Bored
Xerces
Cherry Waves
Nosebleed
Beware
Knife Prty
No Ordinary Love
Rats!Rats!Rats!
Hole In The Earth
Back To School (Mini Maggit)
Change (In The House Of Flies)
7 Words

Thoroughly enjoyed the show, which could be the last time we see them out here. It's great to see a band you've been into for years and better when they don't disappoint.

FEBRUARY 22 2007
Crown & Anchor Hotel

MAMMAL

from lovelivechoose.livejournal.com:
Went to see Mammal tonight at the Crown & Anchor. It was the second time i've seen them and I must say they impressed me more this second time around. I enjoyed the first show, which is obviously what made me come out to see them again tonight, but the last show was at HQ 9supporting Cog) so a lot of the crowd wasn't overly interested and I guess it was a big venue for their first adelaide show.

Tonight's set at the Cranka was a lot more personal, fun and relaxed. Everyone had a good time. I bought myself a cd and I've been listening to it since I got home for the last few hours.

Took these on my phone cam....

"I know what you're thinkin!"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SATURDAY 23 2007
Enigma Bar

A RED DAWN

Was good to hang out with the Red Dong boys tonight. I must note that after last week, being a massive drunkfest, I was able to control my drinking. Go me. I ended up at the guys house after the show talking shit about music. Waking up at 8 in the morning next to Davin on his bed was interesting.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SUNDAY 24 2007
The Shores Function Complex

MAMMAL

2 Days after seeing them at the Crown & Anchor and they just get better. I think some of the crowd were a bit stand-offish with them, given they're in your face approach (lead mainly by vocalist, Zeke), which has in the past pushed the boundaries of being cocky and righteous, but tonight came across a lot less egotistical. Instead of throwing vague insults at the crowd in an attempt spark reaction (pretty sure this attitude is actually Zeke's way of taking the piss), the band instead focused on putting in a solid performance to win the shihad/tbe crowd over, with the less frequent push from the front man.

THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT

In my opinion, this set from Brisbane's TBE was rather disappointing. If you were drunk, you probably enjoyed it because you missed all the terrible parts. Simone's words were, "They were sub-standard."

Seeing them earlier in the month at Adelaide's Big Day Out sparked some concern but I was hoping they'd pull through with a pleasing performance this time around, but like last time, the mix was terrible and vibe a little flat. I guess I can't blame them for technical problems but you would at least expect a band of their touring experience to overcome this. I couldn't help thinking that they're time was up........ last year.

SHIHAD

As always, solid.
Shihad have never really disappointed me, from my first live Shihad experience in 1996 or so all the way through to now. Playing 4 new songs made the set that much better. Although I couldn't help that think this set, apart from the 4 new tracks, was a bit of a greatest hits show for them, playing crowd favourites right the way through with less actual interaction with the audience. That said, even then it was a great show.

FEBRUARY DRINKS TALLY

Well, the alcohol free zone lasted 34 days through January and February. This being only the second month to be tallied here, and considering a few nights have been a bit blurry on the consumption, no solid conclusions can be drawn. Still have another 10 months to go.

Saturday 17:
Chambord & sparkling, wine, vodka and Passiona, 2 vodka rasperry, a shit load of vodka watermelon, shot of something...... that's about all I remember unfortunately. Massively pissed. I think I also had many more vodka's when we hit the town plus a few bourbons.
Expenditure: Unknown. I think I was down $100 at the end of the night.

Saturday 23:
2 Coronas, 7 Tooheys Exdra Dry, Johnny Walker & Cola
Expenditure: $23.50

Sunday 24:
Half bottle of sparkling white
Expenditure: $0

Monday 25:
Beer
Expenditure: $0
