WELCOME HOME SGT. DREW SWIGART!

We are very happy to announce that a few weeks ago....Sgt. Drew Swigart has returned from his tour of duty in Iraq.

He is enjoying his time back with his family in North Carolina. Sgt. Drew Swigart saw our band at Jacksonville NC back in 2007 and has seen us again in 2008. He was stationed out in Iraq and has completed his service there. We did a story on him earlier in the year. Drew really dug the book "Oh well, Whatever, Nevermind" so when he wrote me that letter I couldn't help but to forward it to the Author (Jeff Burlingame). Jeff was kind enough to offer a signed copy and some goodies. Our friend Mitch Holmquist from Bonney Lake, Washington obtained a signed copy of Gillian G. Gaar's book "A Rough Guide To Nirvana and he included signatures by Leland Cobain (Kurt's grandfather) and a Portrait of Kurt Cobain. Little known fact....Leland served in the marines so Drew and Leland automatically had that bond as men whom have served their country.

Through our synergized efforts we all made this happen for one of our country's best.
In tune with an AC/DC song...."To Drew and those in Iraq.....we salute you!" And that goes to ALL of our service men and women stationed around the world!

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

A ROUGH GUIDE TO NIRVANA (Author Gillian G. Gaar)

I must say. This is definitely a treat for all fans of Nirvana. I personally have been waiting since 1994/95 (The Live! Tonight! Sold Out VHS tape was released somewhere around that time). Ever since I saw the live performace of Lithium at Reading I knew that someday this would be released in it's entirety. The sing along during that song especially sent shivers down my spine. It still does. There are many hilarious moments in this dvd especially when Dave asked Krist to tell a joke (I think it was Dave who asked).
So Krist goes "The invisible goes to the doctor, the nurse says i'll go get the doctor, the nurse says the invisible man is here, the doctor says Tell him I can't see him right now." The crowd bursted with laughter. This was the magic of Nirvana. They all played off each other very well. It was like one of those classic comedy teams of the golden years of comedy. Don't see bands with that kind of humor anymore.

The Bleach reissue is very interesting. I honestly haven't played the live stuff yet because i've been enamoured with the Reading DVD. I do have to say that the packaging is very interesting. Especially the picture booklet that comes with it. I'll definitely write up a report on it as soon as I get to it.

Feel free to post your favorite Reading moments here.

Enjoy!

Hello friends and fans across the Texas border.

The last time we played in Mexico was in Monterrey back in October of 2007.
Ironically we would return to the country of Mexico almost 2 years to the date.

We had a great experience in Juarez Mexico. We landed in El Paso on Saturday Oct. 16th and we're immediately greeted by Jose Luis Cassio and Hugo. These two are in charge of taking care of us and are partners with another promoter whom brought us down to this show. They were so down to earth. They took us out for some burittos and got us a very nice hotel (Camino Real). Let me say that i've been through a hellish flight fiasco coming in from California (delayed) to Minnesota (Slept for 30 minutes just to go board my connecting flight) to Chicago (landed only to get my bag and switch it out in the van for my guitar and effects) to El Paso Texas. I literally came with the clothes on my back and my instrument plus pedals. I slept for about 2hours at the hotel then we went to soundcheck. The guys were all very helpful. We saw a huge billboard featuring our band. Lots of posters out in the streets as well. It was all very new and exciting.

Later that evening Jose Luis Cassio took us to meet some friends of his. We took pictures and again....ate some burritos. This time at a different place. We wanted to go back to the huge venue (we were in a huge area next to a colisseum looking thing) to hear the other band. We weren't allowed to mingle amongst the crowd or watch the band from the front. So we chilled out in the back. The band "Blitzkrieg" was playing a plethra of old school metal. Very good musician's. They were very down to earth as well.

It was our turn to set up. I quickly set up my pedals and guitar on stage. Went back....changed clothes...the fog machine blew smoke everywhere and that was our cue to start. It was so amazing watching these kids faces jump up and down especially during Drain You. We played one tune after another (we're famously known for that) and the crowd kept wanting more. When I asked what they wanted to hear...everyone kept screaming at the same time so I couldn't understand. In order to remedy this problem I took an empty styrofoam cup and had them write whatever songs they wanted us to hear. That worked out nicely. Eventually we had a bunch of styrofoam pieces on stage.

We played for about 3 hours according to some fans. At the end I wanted to jump off the side of the stage but it was too high. This one big tall guy says "Just jump on my shoulders". So I did and I was able to hoist myself down. Soon enough fans started swarming me....shaking my hands and saying some really nice things. Then hugs started to happen. And then I became extremely overwhelmed. I was completely surrounded by what seemed like hundreds of people. Security moved in and I was pulled out of the crowd. Jose Luis Cassio told me that it's over...that's enough...calm down. He took us to the car in the back and we had to wait for everyone to leave.

We had a nice talk about how things went. Later we packed up our gear which was easy. My pedals were all soaked in fog juice. I dried them off as quickly as possible.

We were taken back to our hotel at 2am. I tried to sleep...woke up feeling nauseous because of the lack of sleep during my 3 day flight fiasco. Jose Luis came by at about 9:30am...took us across the border (which took about an hour because of so many people crossing) and kept us company at the El Paso TX airport until it was time for us to be at our gate. We said our goodbyes....and we left feeling good.

The flight to Chicago was interesting. There were two big guys sitting in front of me and across from them was a hillbilly looking mullet guy. He kept ordering those little Jack Daniel bottlers and was having a blast talking to the big dudes. Eventually the hillbilly guy ordered so many drinks that he was ...ugh....drunk. He was blocking the aisle for a while. Then he went to the bathroom and never came back.

I got up to pee and there he was.....laying down across some seats near the bathroom.

We landed and it was all over. As much fun as this was I can't help to say that there was one person who outshined any of these moments. And I sorely miss her.

August 23, 2009 - Sunday
 Howdy,

It's been so long since we posted a blog documenting our adventures. Seems like the last official blog dates back to May of this year and was posted on June 4th and that was about our tour to Pennsylvania, New York, and Chicago.

We also have to write up about our huge U.S. Tour from April which took us to states like North Dakota, Montana, Washington, Oregon, California, etc. In time it will all be posted. Plus we have plenty of footage from the road that we're compiling for you all to see in the future.

From what I can remember we played at a place in Minneapolis called "STATION 4" on June 5th. The drive was fairly decent. The weather wasn't terribly hot. We saw our good friends Ash and Katie. They brought along their friend Jayden too. The opening band was a two piece. Bassist/vocalist and a drummer. I believe they were both brothers which was cool. They were loud as heck! They had enough sonic soundscape to make the building rattle. I'm kicking myself for not writing this blog sooner but as soon as I remember what the band's name is i'll post it here. We played for about 90 minutes or so. Afterwards a bunch of guys wanted to hang out but we were pretty tired. Ash gave me this really cool shirt that has Kurt's Jagstang Schematic on the back. All of us went back to her and had a few drinks (I however was too tired and didn't drink anything at all.) Sam and Alex were pretty tired as well so we crashed out at about 4am I think.

The next morning we began our drive to Des Moines Iowa. The location: PEOPLE'S COURT! No Judge Wapner here..just a great big room with a huge stage and lots of cool folks. We played here before back in March and I remember these cool fans Suzanne and her friends came out. There was this one blonde dude (Lance? Steve?) that came out the first and was there again. Dude...if you're reading this i'm so sorry. I'm trying to catch up here. The night went very well. We played for 3 hours straight! NO BREAK! The fans kept us on stage and we were glad to play as long as their hearts were content. After the show we took time to thank people and sign some things. We also gave away a copy of Gillian G. Gaar's book "A ROUGH GUIDE TO NIRVANA" but I never heard back from the winner. If you're reading this....please write a review of the book at www.amazon.com Thanks! :)  Here's a clip from the Des Moines show.

On June 12th we found ourselves within Buffalo NY at a place called Rhino's. We met some long time friends there...Sandy and Jim! They saw us at Club Infinity last year and had been dying to see us again. Apparently the Penguins won the big game that night so people were pre-celebrating elsewhere. Even so.....we STILL played a full set of music and even went back for a couple of encores. The staff was very friendly and nice. Tom was cool and we hope to see him again in the near future.

June 13th....The Starland Ballroom (Sayreville, NJ). This show was so awesome! Over 1,000 showed up and they all dug our set! Our friends Pat, Becky, Chris (whom we FINALLY MET!), Rych (whom suggested we play at The Starland! THANKS FOR THE HELP!) and many many others came out for our show! It was insane! It was hard for me to really see the audience becuase the lights were so bright on stage and pointing straight at my face. I didn't know if the crowd was moshing or not. I kept thinking that they were'nt so we kept playing some aggressive tunes. haha! Our set was intense and i'm glad that you were all there to share that with us. Here's a clip of the NJ show Sorry the audio is horrible. We hung out by the merch table while the other guys played and hung out with so many fans. We met lots of parents too. They brought their kids along to share the excitement of what it was like to see a show in the 90's. Thanks to all you people for making his a cool show! Afterwards we went to some little restaurant....stayed at a hotel...then made our way back home to Chicago.

June 18th....The U.S. Virgin Islands! We've been here before and we were very excited about the opportunity to see our friends again. Our flights were on time and we were picked up by our great friend Alan from 104.3 THE BUZZ! Alan and The Caribbean Saloon set us up at a very nice hotel and had us rest up before taking a ferry from St. Thomas (where we landed) to St. John. We met some of the locals and promoted our shows on the island. First show took place later that evening in St. John. The setting was pretty mellow. We had some unusual circumstances that we had to deal with but all in all we still had fun. We tested some stuff out for the next night. After our show a few of the locals wanted us to stay and party but we really really had to get back to St. Thomas to get some rest. We took a water taxi which was the coolest thing ever since we took one in the middle of the night! DJ ROB (Another great friend of ours) and I were talking about the most random stuff possible! lol! This man has the best converations ever! We load our guitars and bags into Alan's car and then it happened...one of his tires went flat. Luckily we were near a gas station and Alan pumped air into his tire. The poor guy had to sleep at the station so that he could be up in time to do his broadcast. We went to his place....he got his clothes...and then he dropped us off. The next afternoon Alan calls and tells us that his wheel fell off....then something happened to another guy's car ("Web" from The Buzz as well) and even Christina's (From the Buzz too!) car was having problems that very same day! Omg! Must have been a bad day for vehicles. Luckily Web finally got his car up and running and he picked us up at the hotel (on the opposite side of the St. Thomas) to take us to the Caribbean Saloon (the happiest place on earth as far as i'm concerned).

We see our awesome friend Terrie, DJ Rob, and Frank! These guys are all smiles! Such great attitudes and genuine sweethearts. We set up our gear....Frank and his co-workers change the surroundings a bit to accomodate the stage and we began to soundcheck. We brought up Terrie to the drumkit to practice a number with us. All was going very well! After rehearsing/soundcheck we sat down and ate some of the best food the island has to offer. I looked out the window and this huge rainbow stuck out over St. John. It was quite a site. Terrie was nice for driving back to the hotel since the rest of the vehicles weren't doing so well. We were so tired from the night before. We slept for about 3 hours and then were picked up by Cristina and we headed back to the Saloon. We set the stage....had Web do a great intro and we began with "Radio Friendly Unit Shifter". We were off to a a very good night. We began to mix up our set a little starting with Terrie joining us on stage for Metallica's "Sad But True". It was her birthday celebration as well as Rob's! We had DJ Rob sit in with us for Nine Inch Nail's "HEad LIke A hole". He even sang on Radiohead's "Creep". I really felt that one. Hearing Rob sing it hit me like a ton of bricks. He conveyed every emotion from that song and made it his own. I connected with that song when I was younger.  I guess it just brought out this feeling of being out of place and alienated for it.

Well there is more to write about but I have to get our chat started...
Talk to you guys soon.

Chicago has been missing something over the last 15 years since I could remember..

An all female fronted punk band balls big enough to rival any other band in Chicago.

Presenting...THE WANTON LOOKS!
www.myspace.com/wantonlooks

It's not all about gender. It's the fact that they are a solid group of musicians.
The band features our cellist INGA OLSON on guitar/vocal duties. They are truly a band that we have sorely needed all these years. This isn't a "punk" band from the burb's that sings about "dancing" or that hang out with Kanye West and kissing his ass by calling him a Prince in public. This is raw, greasy, dirty, punk with vocal hooks big enough to cut heads. The bass sounds huge in it's fuzzed out glory. The guitars are tighter than a noose yet have more edge than a razor. And the drummer...a punishing fury of unforgiveness.

We're big fans of theirs and we hope you guys can catch them this Saturday!

Thanks!

 Hello everyone,

The Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, California recently sent us a message about their new addition.

It’s a Fender Stratocaster Electric Guitar from 1992, smashed to fragments by Kurt Cobain.  Nirvana was well-known for demolishing their gear at the end of a set.  The guitar is currently displayed courtesy of Experience Music Project.

Here is a pic. Please add www.myspace.com/grammymuseum for more info on the museum and location/directions. Tell them Nevermind sent ya! ;)
