They have just finished recording their debut album at a brand new recording facility on the campus of Western Carolina University. You can hear a few demo tracks by visiting myspace.com/crunchywave. Something's brewing in Alabama!
We had heard from our manager Rob Turner that Wildman Steve - the DJ for 99.9 THE ROCK FM - sent us the news that we were NUMBER ONE on the station's Top 50, coming in at the top of the charts with "Pimp in a Pinch." This is very exciting news!
With the good news comes some bad news, as we've had to cancel yet another show! We're going to have to back out of the 4/20 Celebration at Broad Street in Durham, NC, on April 20. We tried our best to make it work but for personal reasons, we won't be able to make the performance. We encourage everyone in the area to still go to the show, as there are a lot of great bands on the bill.
Tommy and Kevin are planning a special show as part of the PLAY FOR PEACE festivities taking place in May. The first event was a major success. Tommy played with several acts during the night and was motivated to put together his own project for the next event. Official plans are still being finalized, but it looks like Kevin, Tommy, our good friend Justin Powell, and members of Cooking With Quanta will be performing two hours worth of GRATEFUL DEAD! Whether they like to admit it these days or not, three of the four band members were practically raised on Grateful Dead music, so it will be a blast to come back to it after all these years.
We will be spending the next few months writing new material and recording as well, though no official plans have been made yet. Stay tuned for further updates.

Thanks to all who came out to support us at the Orange Peel on March 1. We were very pleased with our performance, as we did a few oldies as well as our new song ("Your Man" - written by Karl and arranged by Kevin, Tommy, and Jeff) and a powerful version of "Guilt," which will be on the new Ali Baba's Tahini record. Kevin played the show with a 100 degree fever! Luckily, some fans made audience recordings and the venue made a soundboard recording, so we will be releasing this show in some format online in the coming weeks.
Tommy sat in with Umphrey's that night for a spirited jam. You can see parts of it on YouTube by copying and pasting this link into your browser:
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Tommy+Dennison&search=Search
We are saddened to announce that we must cancel our St. Patrick's Day show at O'Malley's on March 16 due to a scheduling conflict. We apologize for the inconvenience as we were really looking forward to this concert. I'm sure we'll be back there in the future.
All eyes are now on our four hour, three-set headlining show at the Five Spot in downtown Atlanta - my hometown - on Thursday, March 22 at 9 PM sharp. We've heard nothing but great things about this venue, and we need your support to make sure Mother Vinegar continues to return to Atlanta! We drew 150 people to Smith's Olde Bar last August on a Wednesday, so we're looking to pack the place on a Thursday in Little Five Points.....especially on the first day of spring! Tickets are only $7 and we will be plaing until 1 AM.
We're also happy to announce that Mother Vinegar will headline the 4/20 Celebration at the Broad Street Cafe in Durham, NC, on April 20, with a host of other great local and national acts. MV plays during prime time at 11:30 PM for an entire hour. Tickets are $7. More details to be announced.
However, the focus is now shifting on recording. There is a severe lack of live and studio Mother Vinegar material available. From March 23 to April 19, we will be converting our rehearsal studio into a recording studio as we begin to assemble a series of podcasts to be available online. This will also be a test of the waters, as we are beginning to have serious talks about planning the long-awaited second album from Mother Vinegar. This will be a completely different experience from our 2005 debut, as we hopefully plan on making it a true homegrown project with total control by the band. There are also plans for a possible live album later in the summer. We will be scaling back on live concerts in the coming months as we begin to focus on recording. Please be patient, and stay tuned for further updates.
Take care everyone
Karl, Kevin, Jeff, and Tommy

Hello everyone!
We've got some special shows in March we'd like to tell you about, as well as another project in the works.
First let us mention that Tommy played all night, literally, as part of the "Play for Peace" concerts that took place last Saturday in and around the WCU and Sylva area. He played with his new fusion band The Crunch (stay tuned for more details to follow on this exciting new project) along with his father Steve Dennison, Cooking With Quanta, and several others. Mother Vinegar was accidentally listed as a performer in the Macon News but we had other things going on. Maybe next time!
Thursday, March 1, Mother Vinegar will be joining forces once again with Umphrey's McGee for a show at the Orange Peel in Asheville, NC. This time, we are playing a special extended, one hour set beginning at 8:30 PM, with Umphrey's taking the stage following us with two extended sets of their own. These shows either sell out or come very close, and the Orange Peel only fits around 950 people, so be sure to get your tickets ASAP by visiting www.theorangepeel.net.
Tentatively, the next couple of weekends will see us turning our practice area into a mini-studio as we're planning on recording a number of songs for a brand new podcast! A new album might be in the works later in the year, but we've had requests from many fans asking for more music since our sound has changed so much since our first album was released. We agree that now is the time to spread our music through cyberspace, so we will be taking the best of these sessions and releasing them in some sort of podcast format. Details still have to be worked out, but stay tuned as plans develop.
We've been having an absolute blast lately at O'Malley's in Sylva, so much so that we're returning again for a pre-St. Patty's Day bash on Friday, March 16. There is never a cover charge. Not only that, the management asked us to play longer this time out, so we might end up spreading three sets over four hours! It's going to be a lot of fun...hope to see you there. The next night, Jeff will be playing again with the Rebelles Burlesque at the Grey Eagle in Asheville on St. Patrick's Day - Saturday, March 17. Tickets are $20. Visit www.thegreyeagle.com for more information.
We return to Atlanta on Thursday, March 22, for a three-set, headlining show at the Five Spot in Little Five Points. We're very excited about this show, as it is our first headlining show in Atlanta. Tickets can be purchased in advance by contacting the club via their website - www.fivespot-atl.com. We start at 9 PM and will be playing three long sets of original music. We really need your support this night!
Our new manager Rob Turner is as busy as ever working out plans for the spring and summer. Check back here for more news as it develops.
Thanks again for everything!
Karl, Kevin, Jeff, and Tommy

Mother Vinegar will be hosting a very special FREE live show at the very first venue to hold a MV concert - Guadalupe Cafe in downtown Sylva, NC - on Thursday, January 4.
This will be a special "warm-up" show for our midwest mini-tour that commences the following week. It's hard to believe it's been 16 months since we played Guadalupe as part of our very first show. This will also be the last show in the region for quite a while as plans are currently in the works for several out-of-town shows throughout 2007.
Again, this a free concert, so be sure to come down and enjoy some good food, good beer, and really loud music.

Well, 2006 has come to an end for Mother Vinegar. Entering the year after having only played eight concerts, we're very happy with 2006 and what we've accomplished. We now have nearly 60 original songs, and more on the way. Our goal in 2006 was to develop and strengthen our live performances by practicing and playing as often as possible throughout the area. We now feel we are ready to take things to the next level and bring our show out on the road.
The final test took place this past weekend in Young Harris, GA, with a two-night stand at A Taste of Chicago. After a few uneven performances in October, it was great to have such a fantastic and supportive audience, and it helped our playing very much. For the first time, Mother Vinegar performed two complete concerts without repeating a song. The actual setlists contained fewer songs per set, allowing us to open up and try new things and to experiment. We were very happy with the performances and felt satisfied about ending our first complete year together with these shows, but it's time to take things to the next level in 2007. To mark the new beginning for the band, we are happy to welcome our great friend Rob Turner as the new manager of Mother Vinegar. After months of deliberation (and a little begging), Rob has agreed to head up the MV organization. For years even before there was a Mother Vinegar, we have been aware of his amazing talent and dedication. He is a graduate of Boston University with a degree in film and broadcasting, a writer for Relix Magazine, Guitar One, JamBands.com, an associate of the respected Shimon Presents publicity company, an occasional guest host on XM Radio's "Jam Nation," and a promoter for Atlanta's legendary Variety Playhouse venue. He was a key promoter for Phish's legendary Paradise Theater concert in 1989, Rob's dedication and professionalism is profound, and there was never any doubting that he was always the prime choice to help introduce Mother Vinegar to the rest of the world. It's safe to say that we are beyond elated to have Rob Turner as the manager of Mother Vinegar. The second major announcement involves Karl's incredibly popular "other" project - Ali Baba's Tahni. The legendary group that includes Karl, Umphrey's McGee guitar legend Jake Cinninger, and drummer extraordinaire Steve Krojinewski, will regroup next week for the first time in two years to record the long awaited follow-up to their "Rockstars and Lawnmowers" album. The big news is that the classic South Bend-based trio is now a quartet, with Karl moving to second guitar and our very own Jeff Hinkle joining the band as bassist. Jeff and Karl will head to Michigan to join Jake and Krojo for a week-long recording session. No track list is completely confirmed, but rumors of a (finally) official version of "Resolution" circulate, as well as talk of the Mother Vinegar songs "Dose of the Real World," "Cold Beers at Mickey's Pub," and "Bikes" making an appearance on the as-of-yet untitled fourth studio album from ABT.
The thrid and most exciting announcement is the unveling of a Mother Vinegar midwest mini-tour taking place over MLK weekend. The official dates are as follows:
1-12-07 Kinetic Playground, Chicago, IL 1-13-07 Mishawaka Brewing Company, Mishawaka, IN 1-14-07 Birdy's, Indianapolis, IN
More details to be announced, but suffice to say, we are VERY excited about finally hitting on of our most prevalent markets. The majority of our CD sales were to folks in the midwest, and we are very excited about giving them the absolute best performances we can muster. Stay tuned for a possible weekend of warm-up shows prior to the tour. Details are also being worked out for a mini-run with another major touring band that will take MV to Athens, Knoxville and beyond. 2007 also promises to see work begin on the band's second studio album. We're very happy about taking the band on the road and exposing our sound to the rest of the country, and we hope you will join us.
Thanks for making 2006 a great year!
Karl, Kevin, Tommy, and Jeff

Exciting things keep happening in the Mother Vinegar camp this fall.
First of all, we are honored to have been chosen among the ten finalists in the Asheville-based "Rocktoberfest: The Ultimate Battle of the Bands" competition held by Echo Mountain studios. The final ten bands will compete in an elimination tournament at The Orange Peel on Sunday, October 29. Several high-profile members of the music industry will serve as judges. The winner will recieve a 5 song EP (mini-album) and 1,000 mastered and packaged CDs. There will also be an audience award winner. Please come support us in this important event. Visit www.theorangepeel.net for more details.
In more exciting news, "Pimp in a Pinch" from our debut album was played on XM Satellite Radio (including the Internet broadcast) a few weeks back. Host Jeff Waful and special guest Rob Turner also talked a bit about Mother Vinegar and our brief history.
The acoustic shows continue tonight (Friday the 13th) in Sylva at the Spring Street Cafe. The band will then play a private party next wekekend. That Friday (the 20th), Jeff will be performing at the Lake Eden Arts Festival with the Rebelles.
After a lengthy absence from electric shows in Sylva, the rock returns on Friday, October 27 at O'Malley's. The goal here is to blow the roof off the place. The very next day, we will be performing at the Fall in the Park festival in downtown Sylva at 3:30 PM. The Orange Peel Rocktoberfest final tournament is the next night in Asheville.
MV returns to their favorite venue - The Emerald Lounge in Asheville - on Friday, November 3, and performs the next night at Across the Trax in Bryson City. Both shows will feature 3+ hours of electric music.
We have a great fanbase in the Murphy/Andrews area and along the NC/Georgia border. Aside from a fun acoustic show in Murphy last weekend and the Andrews Street Festival in June, MV has not performed in this area enough, which is a shame considering some of our most loyal fans reside there. Well, we're happy to announce that MV will be performing a two-night stand at A Taste of Chicago in Hayesville, GA, with the Johnny Scroggs Band on Friday and Saturday, November 17 & 18. This is going to be a great two-night run and we encourage all of you to travel for the event. Expect some late night jams around town as well.
Thanks again for everything!
